To advance the application of direct ink writing (DIW) in SiC ceramic manufacturing, with coarse-grained SiC powder (D₅₀=44 μm) as raw material, the regulation rules of dispersant, slurry pH value, solid volume fraction and thickener on the rheological properties of slurry were systematically investigated, and high-solid-content slurry suitable for DIW was prepared. The printing parameters were then optimized based on finite element simulation, and the printability of the slurry was quantitatively evaluated via linear fluid span test. The results show that with pH of 10-11, an addition of 1.4% polyacrylic acid (PAA) dispersant can greatly reduce slurry viscosity, and lead to the maximum solid volume fraction of the slurry up to 55%. While an addition of 0.05% methylcellulose (MC) thickener can effectively improve the structural strength of the slurry, bringing in optimal comprehensive printing performance. By adopting a 1.2 mm nozzle with the maximum printing span controlled within 6.3 mm, an intact three-dimensional lattice ceramic green body can be fabricated without collapse.
