In order to study the effects of pores in surface-coated carbon layer on the rate performance of graphite cathode materials, a small amount of boric acid was added to generate gasification and effusion effect of boric acid during the softening stage of the coated asphalt. Then, a carbon layer with certain pores was formed on the surface of natural graphite tailings through carbonization, and graphite cathode materials with various proportions of pores were obtained. The results show that boric acid forms a carbon layer on the surface of particles containing mesoporous and macroporous pores. A higher proportion of mesopores in the surface carbon layer leads to more diffusion channels for Li+ in the carbon layer LC, and lower diffusion impedance of Li+. In that case, the rate performance and cycling performance of the material are enhanced.

为了研究表面包覆碳层孔隙对石墨负极材料倍率性能的影响,引入少量硼酸,在包覆沥青软化阶段形成硼酸气化逸出效应,再通过碳化工艺在天然石墨尾料表面形成具有一定孔隙的包覆碳层,得到具有不同比例孔隙的石墨负极材料。结果表明,硼酸在材料颗粒表面形成了含有孔隙的碳层,其孔隙类型为介孔和大孔;表面碳层中的介孔比例越高,碳层LC中形成Li+的扩散通道数量越多,Li+的扩散阻抗越低,材料倍率性能及循环性能得以改善。

为了研究表面包覆碳层孔隙对石墨负极材料倍率性能的影响,引入少量硼酸,在包覆沥青软化阶段形成硼酸气化逸出效应,再通过碳化工艺在天然石墨尾料表面形成具有一定孔隙的包覆碳层,得到具有不同比例孔隙的石墨负极材料。结果表明,硼酸在材料颗粒表面形成了含有孔隙的碳层,其孔隙类型为介孔和大孔;表面碳层中的介孔比例越高,碳层LC中形成Li+的扩散通道数量越多,Li+的扩散阻抗越低,材料倍率性能及循环性能得以改善。

In order to study the effects of pores in surface-coated carbon layer on the rate performance of graphite cathode materials, a small amount of boric acid was added to generate gasification and effusion effect of boric acid during the softening stage of the coated asphalt. Then, a carbon layer with certain pores was formed on the surface of natural graphite tailings through carbonization, and graphite cathode materials with various proportions of pores were obtained. The results show that boric acid forms a carbon layer on the surface of particles containing mesoporous and macroporous pores. A higher proportion of mesopores in the surface carbon layer leads to more diffusion channels for Li+ in the carbon layer LC, and lower diffusion impedance of Li+. In that case, the rate performance and cycling performance of the material are enhanced.

锂离子电池具有能量密度高、环境友好、循环性能良好等优势,被广泛应用于移动电子设备、新能源汽车等产品[1-3]。其中,石墨负极具有成本低廉、来源广泛、安全性高等特点,是目前市场上应用广泛的锂离子电池负极材料[4-6]。随着电池技术的发展,对负极材料的倍率性能要求越来越高,如何提高石墨类负极材料的倍率性能成为行业研究的热点[7-9]。本文以天然石墨球化尾料为原料,引入少量硼酸,在包覆沥青软化阶段形成硼酸气化逸出效应,通过碳化工艺在天然石墨尾料表面形成具有一定孔隙的包覆碳层结构,探究孔隙大小及比例对材料电化学性能的影响。
主要实验原料包括天然石墨球化过程尾料(经造粒石墨化除杂,固定碳比例不低于99.90%,灰分不高于0.1%,水分不高于0.1%)、硼酸(H3BO3,99.5%,分析纯,国药集团化学试剂有限公司)、沥青(PE250,喹啉不溶物为0.74%,灰分不高于0.02%,辽宁奥亿达新材料有限公司)、去离子水、导电剂导电炭黑(SP,电池级,特密高石墨有限公司)、黏结剂丙烯腈多元共聚物水分散液(LA133,5%,眉山茵地乐科技有限公司)、金属锂片(99.9%,天津中能锂业有限公司)、电解液(LBC3401A4,深圳新宙邦科技股份有限公司)。
在100 g经造粒石墨化除杂天然石墨球化尾料(D50=(12±2)μm)中加入7.7 g沥青(D50=4~6 μm),再分别加入500目(-0.028 mm)粒级硼酸(D50<5 μm)0 g、0.5 g、1.0 g和1.5 g,采用S212-40恒速搅拌器在室温下以转速500 r/min搅拌1 h。将混合均匀后的样品置于管式炉中碳化,碳化工艺为:氮气气氛下从室温以升温速率5 ℃/min升至150 ℃碳化60 min,再以升温速率1 ℃/min升至600 ℃碳化2 h,最后以升温速率5 ℃/min升至1 000 ℃碳化2 h,然后降至室温并取出样品。根据硼酸添加量(质量分数)将样品分别标记为B-0%、B-0.46%、B-0.92%、B-1.37%,其编号和配料成分如表1所示。
图1为沥青的TG-DTG曲线图。由图1可知,沥青的软化温度250 ℃,残碳率64.57%,400~600 ℃区间内沥青质量损失主要由有机物在高温下发生反应产生H2O、CO2等易挥发物质所致,故将升温过程设计如下:由150 ℃缓慢升温至600 ℃,然后在600 ℃保温2 h,并升温至1 000 ℃碳化2 h,以保证能有效去除沥青中的易挥发成分。
扣式电池的制备过程如下:将处理后的石墨样品、导电剂SP、黏结剂LA133和去离子水置于HASAI真空脱泡搅拌机中,在室温下搅拌30 min得到负极浆料,其中处理后石墨样品、导电剂SP和黏结剂LA133三者的质量比为93∶3∶4。将涂布刮刀间隙设为100 μm,将浆料涂在尺寸为10 μm的铜箔上,将负极极片放入真空干燥箱中90 ℃下真空干燥12 h,辊压后冲切成Φ16 mm薄片,再在90 ℃下真空干燥12 h。最后,以金属锂片为对电极在真空手套箱中将之前所有零件组装成CR2430型扣式电池并测试其电化学性能。
采用德国D8 Advance型X射线衍射仪(XRD)分析材料物质组成;采用日本JSM-7900F型场发射扫描电子显微镜(SEM)分析材料表面形貌;采用中国BK222型比表面分析仪测试材料BET、孔容孔径;使用LAND测试系统(CT2001A)测试扣式电池循环性能及倍率性能,循环性能测试电压范围为0~1.5 V,充放电倍率为0.5C,倍率性能测试放电倍率依次为0.1C、0.2C、0.3C、1.0C和2.0C。使用电化学工作站(CHI660e)测试扣式电池循环伏安曲线(CV)和电化学阻抗(EIS),CV电压测试范围为0~2 V,扫描速度为0.1 mV/s,EIS测试频率为0.01~10 000 Hz,振幅为5 mV。
图2为不同添加比例硼酸处理后石墨样品的XRD图谱。4种石墨样品均在26.4°、42.2°、44.4°、54.5°和77.2°附近出现了石墨晶体的典型特征衍射峰,与标准PDF卡片相对应,分别为石墨晶体的(002)、(100)、(101)、(004)和(110)晶面,且峰位置及高度基本一致,说明加入硼酸后的石墨样品基本结构和物相构成均未发生变化,主要原因为硼酸在碳化温度高于300 ℃后会完全气化并逸出,不会在材料表面及内部残留。
图3为天然石墨球化尾料原料的SEM图,可以看出天然石墨球化尾料(原料)形状不规则,同时存在鳞片状、褶皱状和细片状块体,与常规类球形石墨相比存在较大形貌差异。经造粒石墨化除杂处理后天然石墨尾料的形貌见图4,其比表面积为13.028 m2/g,粒度小。为进一步提升球化尾料性能,需要对其进行加工处理以降低材料比表面积,使其能更好地应用于制备锂离子电池负极[10]
不同添加比例硼酸处理后石墨样品的表面形貌如图5所示。从图5可以看出,4种石墨材料表面均包覆着一层较薄的碳层,这是沥青经碳化后在石墨表面形成的。沥青的包覆能够覆盖天然石墨尾料表面的活性位点,减少不可逆副反应的发生,同时增强集流体与材料的接触,从而提升导电率。由图5可知,硼酸的加入会影响表面碳层的孔径分布,不添加硼酸及硼酸添加比例0.46%时,形成的碳层表面无明显孔隙;随着硼酸添加比例增大,大孔隙数量有所增加。
各石墨样品比表面积及孔径分布情况如表2所示。随着硼酸添加比例增加,石墨样品比表面积逐渐减小,这是因为硼酸的加入使沥青在软化阶段流动性增加,材料表面碳层更均匀地包覆在颗粒表面,降低了材料的比表面积。
沥青在碳化过程中会产生一定比例的介孔(孔径在2~50 nm范围内的孔称为介孔)和大孔(孔径大于50 nm的孔称为大孔),而硼酸加入量会对碳层孔隙的大小及数量分布产生影响,其会与沥青共同作用,得到具有介孔和大孔的包覆碳层材料。孔隙的产生是因为碳化过程中的易挥发物以H2O、CO2等气体形式逸出;硼酸添加比例升至1.37%后,孔隙尺寸有所增加,这是因为硼酸的沸点为300 ℃,而沥青PE250的软化点为250 ℃,沥青处于软化状态时,随着温度升高,硼酸会缓慢气化并逸出,在沥青表面逐渐形成细小孔隙。硼酸添加比例增加时,更多气体会在软化阶段集中逸出,形成更大的孔隙。因此,随着硼酸添加比例增加,碳层表面形成的大孔比例增加而介孔比例减少。
图6为各石墨样品在0.1C倍率下的首次充放电曲线。由图6可知,4种材料均表现出典型石墨类材料的电压曲线特征。第一次循环中,电压下降至约1.2 V时,曲线出现偏折,对应材料表面SEI膜的形成过程,是首次不可逆容量的主要来源。0.25 V附近的放电平台对应Li+在石墨负极材料中的首次脱嵌反应。结合石墨样品的容量与首次库伦效率(见表3),可以看出加入不同比例硼酸会在材料中形成不同比例的孔隙,对材料容量和首次库伦效率均有一定影响。硼酸添加比例0.46%时,表现出良好的电化学性能,这与其介孔占比较大相对应。随着硼酸添加量增大,介孔比例降低,材料容量和首次库伦效率均有所降低。
样品B-0.46%的CV曲线如图7所示。从图7中可看出,第一次循环至1.2 V附近时,出现了1个还原峰,其在后续充放电循环中消失,这代表首次嵌锂过程中在石墨材料表面形成SEI膜的过程,与样品在0.1C倍率下的首次充放电曲线相对应。
不同硼酸添加量下的石墨样品扣式电池的放电倍率与充电倍率性能曲线如图89所示。从图89可以看出,与其他样品相比,样品B-0.46%在不同倍率下充放电性能更优,这与其较大的介孔占比相对应。同时,对倍率性能及孔隙分布进行对比,可以发现随着材料碳层介孔比例增加,材料表现出更好的倍率性能。包覆碳层具有一定取向性,存在各向异性,作为锂离子电池负极材料时,Li+倾向于在碳层La方向上嵌入/脱嵌。然而,在碳层LC方向上缺少Li+嵌入/脱嵌通道,导致Li+传输不畅[11]。在沥青表面的包覆碳层中,形成一定孔径的孔隙有利于Li+在负极材料碳层中的嵌入/脱嵌,从而提升倍率性能。表面碳层中的介孔比例增大时,能构建更有效的Li+嵌入/脱嵌网络,从而提升材料倍率性能。
图10为各石墨样品的循环曲线。由图10可知,样品B-0.46%的介孔比例较高,循环性能优异,其容量在0.1C倍率下循环50次后仍高达352.6 mAh/g。同时由循环曲线可知,随着介孔比例增加,电池循环性能越好,这说明硼酸的加入可在沥青碳化阶段形成新的纳米介孔,更有利于形成Li+的扩散通道,降低了材料中碳层的扩散阻抗,改善了材料倍率性能,降低了电池在充放电过程中的极差压降,从而使电池保持更好的循环性能。
各石墨样品交流阻抗图谱见图11。对图11曲线进行拟合,得到阻抗参数如表4所示。由拟合结果可知,随着介孔比例增加,材料阻抗逐渐减小。硼酸添加比例0.46%时,石墨样品电荷转移阻抗Rct与Warburg阻抗(Qp)较小,说明电解液与石墨材料表面碳层的界面电阻、Li+嵌入和脱出过程的反应阻抗更小,对应介孔比例较高。在此情况下,表面碳层中的孔隙提供了更多Li+扩散通道,从而提高了材料的循环性能和倍率性能。大孔比例增大时,表面碳层形成的Li+扩散通道数量降低,材料副反应增多,集流体与材料间的电接触降低,电荷转移阻抗增大。低频区斜线斜率越大,说明其Warburg阻抗越小,Li+扩散速度越快[12]
1)加入硼酸可对沥青碳化后表面碳层孔隙的形成过程产生影响,促使沥青碳层孔隙数量进一步增加,影响碳层中介孔与大孔的分布;硼酸添加比例低于0.46%时,形成的介孔比例随着硼酸添加量增加而增加;硼酸添加比例超过0.46%后,随着其添加量增加,更多硼酸集中气化逸出,大孔占比增加。
2)硼酸添加量显著影响石墨样品的介孔和大孔比例。碳层中介孔比例越高,电荷转移阻抗和Warburg阻抗越小,材料倍率、循环等电化学性能越好。
3)加入硼酸会改变沥青包覆天然石墨球化尾料孔隙尺寸、比例与分布,使碳层介孔比例增加,有利于在碳层LC中形成Li+的扩散通道,降低碳层阻抗,从而改善材料倍率性能及循环性能。
