An experiment was conducted on selective extraction of lithium by co-pyrolysis of spent NCM cathode powder and polypropylene followed by water leaching, and the obtained pyrolysis products were characterized. In the experiment, co-pyrolysis of NCM cathode powder with 40% polypropylene ran at 550 ℃ for 2 h, with argon flow rate at 200 mL/min, and then the obtained pyrolysis product was subjected to water leaching, resulting in the lithium leaching rate of 87.92%. It is found that lithium loss is mainly attributed to the formation of water-insoluble lithium cobalt oxide during co-pyrolysis.

开展了三元正极废粉与聚丙烯型隔膜共热解-水浸选择性提锂试验,并对反应产物进行了表征。结果表明,在聚丙烯用量40%、热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h、氩气流速200 mL/min条件下共热解,热解产物水浸,锂浸出率为87.92%。锂损失的主要原因是共热解过程中形成了不溶于水的锂钴氧化物。

An experiment was conducted on selective extraction of lithium by co-pyrolysis of spent NCM cathode powder and polypropylene followed by water leaching, and the obtained pyrolysis products were characterized. In the experiment, co-pyrolysis of NCM cathode powder with 40% polypropylene ran at 550 ℃ for 2 h, with argon flow rate at 200 mL/min, and then the obtained pyrolysis product was subjected to water leaching, resulting in the lithium leaching rate of 87.92%. It is found that lithium loss is mainly attributed to the formation of water-insoluble lithium cobalt oxide during co-pyrolysis.

锂是重要的战略金属,是锂离子电池必不可少的关键组分[1-2]。我国锂资源虽然储量丰富,但主要赋存于高镁锂比盐湖卤水中,开发利用难度极大[1]。同时,我国作为全球最大的锂离子电池生产与消费国,退役锂离子电池作为重要的锂资源已受到广泛关注[1-5]
人们针对三元正极废粉中锂的选择性提取已开发了多种工艺[6],如非传统浸出剂选择性浸出[3-4]、转化焙烧-水浸[5]、电化学脱嵌法[7]、还原焙烧-水(碳酸)浸[8-10]、硫酸化焙烧-还原焙烧[11]、无氧热解-水浸[12-14]等。其中,无氧热解-水浸工艺可充分利用电池自身有机物的还原作用,具有工艺简单、环境友好、易于工业实施等优点。隔膜是锂离子电池重要的有机组分,人们已经开展了聚乙烯型隔膜与锂离子电池共热解研究[13-15],但尚未见关于聚丙烯型隔膜热解对三元正极废粉锂浸出效果影响方面的报道。为此,本文开展了聚丙烯型隔膜与三元正极废粉共热解-水浸提锂研究,并分析了锂选择性提取的机制。
试验用三元正极废粉购于市场,其主要化学成分见表1。该正极材料类型为NCM523,且其Fe、F和P质量分数极低。图1为试验用三元正极废粉的SEM图谱,该原料为边缘光滑的颗粒状。试验用聚丙烯购于市场,其化学式为(C3H6n
试验基本原理为:聚丙烯在无氧条件下热解,可产生还原性气体CH4、H2等,这些还原性气体能还原三元正极废粉中的氧化物,同时将锂转化为可溶于水的Li2CO3,进而通过水浸实现选择性提锂。
将称好的三元正极废粉与聚丙烯按设定的比例均匀混合后,置于刚玉坩埚内,随后将坩埚放入管式气氛炉中(KTL1400,南京南大仪器有限公司),在氩气流速200 mL/min条件下加热至设定温度,并保温一定时间。反应结束后,取出坩埚,待其冷却后收集焙烧产物,一部分进行水浸试验,另一部分用于XRD、XPS、SEM-EDS分析。水浸试验在恒温集热式磁力搅拌水浴锅(DF-1015,上海力辰邦西仪器科技有限公司)中进行,固定固液比50 mg/mL、浸出温度30 ℃、浸出时间2 h,试验结束后,过滤分离浆料,滤渣烘干称重后,用于相关分析。
采用X射线衍射仪(BRUKER,D8 Advance)分析热解渣及浸出渣的物相组成;采用SEM-EDS(SEM:ZEISS sigma500;EDS:BRUKER XFlash 6130)分析热解产物的微观结构及组成;采用同步热分析仪(TG-DSC,NETZSCH STA449F5)分析三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解行为;采用X射线光电子能谱(Thermo SCIENTIFIC ESCALAB)分析元素价态。
图2为氩气气氛下升温速度10 ℃/min、聚丙烯用量40%时三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解的TG-DSC曲线。由图2可见,三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解可分为两个阶段:第一阶段样品无失重,但在160 ℃出现吸热峰,主要归因于聚丙烯的熔化[16];第二阶段在450~500 ℃范围内样品质量快速降低,且发生放热反应,根据文献[15],此时发生了聚丙烯的热解还原反应。
氩气流速200 mL/min、热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h,考察了聚丙烯用量(相对三元正极废粉的质量分数)对锂浸出率的影响,结果见图3。由图3可知,聚丙烯用量从5%增加到40%,锂浸出率从27.53%显著增加到87.92%;进一步增加聚丙烯用量,锂浸出率略有降低。选择聚丙烯用量40%。
氩气流速200 mL/min、聚丙烯用量40%、热解时间2 h,考察了热解温度对锂浸出率的影响,结果见图4。由图4可知,热解温度从500 ℃提高到550 ℃,锂浸出率从85.83%增加至87.92%;进一步提高热解温度,锂浸出率反而缓慢降低。选择热解温度550 ℃。
氩气流速200 mL/min、聚丙烯用量40%、热解温度550 ℃,热解时间对锂浸出率的影响如图5所示。由图5可见,在试验时间范围内,热解时间几乎不影响锂的浸出率,但为了保证热解还原效果,选择热解时间2 h。
综上所述,适宜的热解条件为:聚丙烯用量40%、热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h、氩气流速200 mL/min,在此条件下,锂浸出率达到87.92%。
图6为热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h、氩气流速200 mL/min时不同聚丙烯用量下共热解渣的XRD图谱。由图6可见,随着聚丙烯用量逐渐增加,三元正极材料特征峰强度逐渐降低,说明三元正极废粉被逐步还原。聚丙烯用量10%时,出现Ni6MnO8、NiO和Li0.21Co0.79O特征峰,说明正极废粉中的镍已被还原为Ni2+,钴被部分还原。随着聚丙烯用量进一步增加至30%,Ni6MnO8特征峰强度又逐渐降低,出现金属镍特征峰(2θ=44.41°、51.77°和76.27°),说明Ni2+被进一步还原为Ni单质。聚丙烯用量达到40%时,出现Li2CO3特征峰、(NiO)0.75(MnO)0.25特征峰(2θ=36.99°、42.99°和62.41°),表明聚丙烯用量较高时,三元正极废粉中的Mn4+也可以被还原为Mn2+
图7为热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h条件下三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解产物Ni、Co、Mn元素的高分辨XPS图谱。
图7(a)可见,三元正极废粉中结合能854.37 eV和871.91 eV处的两个峰分别为Ni2+2p3/2和Ni2+2p1/2特征峰[17],结合能861.03 eV和878.95 eV处的两个峰也属于Ni2+的卫星峰;结合能855.85 eV和873.75 eV处的两个峰则为Ni3+特征峰。聚丙烯用量10%时,结合能854.67 eV和872.47 eV处的两个峰分别为Ni2+2p3/2和Ni2+2p1/2特征峰,结合能860.79 eV和878.94 eV处的两个峰则为Ni2+卫星峰,说明添加10%聚丙烯即可将正极材料中的Ni3+还原为Ni2+,这与XRD图谱中发现的Ni6MnO8和NiO结果(见图6)吻合。聚丙烯用量增至40%时,结合能855.13 eV和873.74 eV处的两个峰分别为Ni2+2p3/2和Ni2+2p1/2特征峰,结合能861.08 eV和879.28 eV处的两个峰则属于Ni2+的卫星峰;结合能853.85 eV和871.99 eV处的两个峰为Ni0特征峰[18],说明部分Ni2+被进一步还原为金属Ni,这也与XRD分析结果(见图6)一致。
图7(b)可知,结合能779.74 eV和794.71 eV处的两个峰分别为Co3+2p3/2和Co3+2p1/2特征峰[18]。聚丙烯用量10%时,结合能779.64 eV和794.33 eV处的两个峰均为Co2+特征峰。聚丙烯用量达到40%时,Co仍然以Co2+形式存在,说明三元正极废粉中的Co3+被还原为Co2+,这与XRD分析结果一致。
图7(c)可知,结合能642.23 eV和653.77 eV处的两个峰分别为Mn4+2p3/2和Mn4+2p1/2特征峰[18]。聚丙烯用量10%时,结合能642.05 eV和653.28 eV处的两个峰分别为Mn4+2p3/2和Mn4+2p1/2特征峰,这与XRD检测到Ni6MnO8(见图6)的结果吻合,说明此时Mn4+还没有被还原。聚丙烯用量增至40%时,结合能641.72 eV和653.18 eV处的两个峰分别为Mn2+2p3/2和Mn2+2p1/2特征峰[18],说明提高聚丙烯用量可以将三元正极废粉中的Mn4+还原为Mn2+,这也与XRD分析结果一致。
图8为聚丙烯用量40%、热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h条件下三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解产物的SEM图,图中相关区域的EDS元素分析结果见表2。由图8可见,热解还原后,三元正极废粉粒度明显降低,可见许多白色小颗粒。结合表2可知,区域1和区域2中的镍质量分数比原料中的镍质量分数明显增加,氧质量分数则明显下降,说明该区域中的镍可能为金属镍。此外,所有区域都有C存在,一方面可能是聚丙烯热解产生的碳黑,也可能是反应生成的Li2CO3
由试验结果可知,聚丙烯热解还原三元正极材料,锂主要转化为可溶于水的Li2CO3,进而实现锂的选择性提取。据文献[16]的研究,聚丙烯化学式为(C3H6n,其无氧热解产物主要为CH4、H2和CnHm,反应方程式为:
根据XRD分析结果,聚丙烯用量较低(10%~30%)时,三元正极材料中的镍、钴首先被还原,同时释放锂离子,而锰不被还原,仍然保持较高的价态,反应方程式为:
聚丙烯用量增至40%时,反应(2)和(3)生成的Ni6MnO8和NiO可进一步被还原,产生金属镍和(NiO)0.75(MnO)0.25,相关反应方程式为:
与此同时,反应生成的Li0.21Co0.79O也可被进一步还原为Li0.14Co0.86O,进一步释放锂离子,锂的浸出进一步增加。
综上所述,三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解过程中,镍、钴、锰主要转化为不溶于水的NiO、Ni、(NiO)0.75-(MnO)0.25、Li0.21Co0.79O,而锂主要转化为可溶于水的Li2CO3,进而实现锂的选择性浸出,而形成不溶于水的锂钴氧化物(Li0.14Co0.86O)是导致锂损失的主要原因。
1)聚丙烯用量为正极废粉质量的40%、热解温度550 ℃、热解时间2 h、氩气流速200 mL/min,水浸固液比50 mg/mL、浸出温度30 ℃、浸出时间2 h时,锂浸出率高达87.92%。
2)聚丙烯用量是影响三元正极废粉热解还原效果的关键因素,聚丙烯用量从10%增加到40%,锂浸出率从27.53%显著增加到87.92%,进一步增加聚丙烯用量,锂浸出率略有降低。
3)三元正极废粉与聚丙烯共热解时,热解渣物相组成随聚丙烯用量变化而变化,聚丙烯用量较低(10%~30%)时,正极材料中的镍、钴可被还原,而锰仍然保持原始价态,热解渣主要为NiO、Li0.21Co0.79O和Ni6MnO8;聚丙烯用量增至40%时,Ni6MnO8、NiO可被还原为(NiO)0.75(MnO)0.25和金属镍;锂的损失主要是生成锂钴氧化物(Li0.14Co0.86O)所致。
