The influence of polyether additives on performance of ultra-thin Li-ion battery copper foil with thickness of 5 μm was studied by electrochemistry, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometer. The results show that addition of polyether additives into electrolyte can promote negative shift of Cu deposition potential, and polyether additives with suitable concentration can lead to finer grains of copper foil, which is conducive to improving the surface flatness of copper foil. When the mass concentration of polyether additives is 2.3 mg/L, the obtained copper foil has tensile strength of 620.43 MPa, elongation of 3.67%, glossiness of 161 GU, and surface roughness of 1.02 μm, presenting excellent overall performance. The electrolytic copper foil with high tensile strength has a preferred orientation of (111) plane.

通过电化学、扫描电镜、X射线衍射仪研究了聚醚类添加剂对5 μm极薄锂电铜箔性能的影响。结果表明,电解液中添加聚醚类添加剂能促使铜的沉积电位负移;适宜质量浓度的聚醚类添加剂能细化铜箔晶粒,有利于提高铜箔表面平整性;聚醚类添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时,所得铜箔抗拉强度620.43 MPa,延伸率3.67%,光泽度161 GU,毛面粗糙度1.02 μm,综合性能极好;高抗拉强度电解铜箔具有(111)晶面择优取向特征。

通过电化学、扫描电镜、X射线衍射仪研究了聚醚类添加剂对5 μm极薄锂电铜箔性能的影响。结果表明,电解液中添加聚醚类添加剂能促使铜的沉积电位负移;适宜质量浓度的聚醚类添加剂能细化铜箔晶粒,有利于提高铜箔表面平整性;聚醚类添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时,所得铜箔抗拉强度620.43 MPa,延伸率3.67%,光泽度161 GU,毛面粗糙度1.02 μm,综合性能极好;高抗拉强度电解铜箔具有(111)晶面择优取向特征。

The influence of polyether additives on performance of ultra-thin Li-ion battery copper foil with thickness of 5 μm was studied by electrochemistry, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffractometer. The results show that addition of polyether additives into electrolyte can promote negative shift of Cu deposition potential, and polyether additives with suitable concentration can lead to finer grains of copper foil, which is conducive to improving the surface flatness of copper foil. When the mass concentration of polyether additives is 2.3 mg/L, the obtained copper foil has tensile strength of 620.43 MPa, elongation of 3.67%, glossiness of 161 GU, and surface roughness of 1.02 μm, presenting excellent overall performance. The electrolytic copper foil with high tensile strength has a preferred orientation of (111) plane.

锂电铜箔是锂电池负极集流体的核心新材料,在电池中既充当电极负极活性物质的载体,又起到汇集传输电流的作用,对锂离子电池的内阻及循环性能有很大影响。同时,锂电铜箔约占锂电池总质量的13%,也是影响电池质量、能量密度的关键原料。让铜箔减薄,可以加大锂电池续航里程,因此,极薄化成为铜箔技术迭代更新的主要方向[1]。但极薄电解铜箔生产难度大[2],目前只有少数企业的极薄锂电铜箔满足抗拉强度和延伸率要求,因此,掌握极薄锂电铜箔生产技术对于企业研发创新和抢占高端市场具有重大战略意义。添加剂作为电解溶液所含的少量有机物,能在不影响镀液导电性的前提下,改变镀层的微观结构和形貌,从而调控铜箔的物理性能[3]。按照不同的特征基团对常用添加剂分类,有机添加剂可分为含硫有机物、胺类有机物、聚醚类有机物三类[4]。本文通过电化学分析、扫描电镜、X射线衍射仪研究了聚醚类添加剂对5 μm极薄锂电铜箔性能的影响。
实验试剂:五水硫酸铜(分析纯,洛阳市化学试剂厂),盐酸(分析纯,洛阳市化学试剂厂),浓硫酸(分析纯,洛阳市化学试剂厂),胶原蛋白(深圳吉和昌新材料有限公司),羟乙基纤维素(深圳吉和昌新材料有限公司),聚醚类添加剂(广州再辰化工有限公司)。实验用水为自制纯水。
实验仪器:电化学工作站(瑞士万通有限公司),万能拉伸试验机(日本岛津),表面粗糙度仪(日本三丰),金属专用光度计(泉州科仕佳光电仪器有限公司),SEM扫描电镜(德国蔡司Zeiss公司),X射线衍射仪(德国Bruker公司)。
硫酸铜电解液制备:Cu2+质量浓度80 g/L,H2SO4质量浓度120 g/L,Cl-质量浓度(18±2)mg/L,胶原蛋白质量浓度6 mg/L,羟乙基纤维素质量浓度6 mg/L,聚醚类添加剂质量浓度0~5 mg/L。
生箔制备:采用钛辊为阴极及半弧形的镀铱钛阳极电沉积制备铜箔,控制阴极电流密度,电解液中的铜离子在阴极辊表面逐步沉积出铜层,通过阴极辊不断旋转,再经过剥离辊、上导辊等一系列导辊,铜箔剥离并缠绕在收卷辊上,铜箔厚度约5 μm。工艺参数为:镀液流速40~60 m3/h,温度45~60 ℃,电流密度30~70 A/dm2。通过在硫酸铜电解液中加入聚醚类添加剂,探究其对极薄电解铜箔性能的影响。
采用线性扫描伏安法(LSV)研究添加剂对铜电极上铜沉积的影响,通过万能拉伸试验机测量抗拉强度和延伸率,通过表面粗糙度仪测量毛面粗糙度,通过光泽度计测量表面光泽度,通过SEM扫描电镜分析铜箔毛面的微观组织,通过X射线衍射仪分析铜箔晶面取向。
添加剂作为调整铜箔性能的一种有机物,加入量不够时,不足以调控铜箔性能,用量过多又会使铜箔生长失控[5]
研究了聚醚类添加剂质量浓度对电沉积过程的影响,不同添加剂质量浓度下制备的锂电铜箔阴极极化曲线见图1。由图1可知,添加剂的加入使铜沉积电位负移,表现为极化作用,提高了还原Cu2+所需的活化能,这可能是电沉积过程中,添加剂被吸附在阴极表面,从而抑制了铜离子的还原,抑制电沉积。添加剂质量浓度0~2 mg/L时,极化作用逐渐增强;添加剂质量浓度3~5 mg/L时,极化作用逐渐减弱并趋于稳定。在随后实验中,选取添加剂质量浓度1.5~2.5 mg/L进行研究。
聚醚类添加剂质量浓度对极薄锂电铜箔性能的影响见表1。由表1可知,聚醚类添加剂对极薄锂电铜箔的性能指标有明显的影响。随着添加剂质量浓度增大,毛面粗糙度在0.98~1.86 μm之间变化,呈先增大后减小的趋势。添加剂质量浓度由1.5 mg/L增加至2.3 mg/L时,添加剂对光泽度影响不明显(在153~169 GU之间变化);当添加剂质量浓度增加至2.5 mg/L时,光泽度骤降至103 GU。同时,聚醚类添加剂质量浓度由1.5 mg/L增加至2.3 mg/L,抗拉强度从434.32 MPa提升至620.43 MPa;然而添加剂质量浓度增加至2.5 mg/L,抗拉强度反而下降,可能是添加剂过量会导致添加剂分子自身聚集及相互缠结,从而减弱对铜离子沉积的抑制作用[6]。铜箔的延伸率随添加剂质量浓度增大总体呈下降趋势。添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时,锂电铜箔综合性能较好,此时抗拉强度为620.43 MPa,延伸率为3.67%,光泽度为161 GU,毛面粗糙度为1.02 μm。
不同添加剂质量浓度下制备的锂电铜箔毛面SEM图见图2。从图2可以看出,未加入添加剂时,所得铜箔表面光滑、具有轻微凹坑结构;当添加剂质量浓度达到2.1 mg/L时,表面逐步出现非常大的凸起,与图1中粗糙度变化趋势相符;添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时,晶粒明显细化,颗粒感变明显,但均匀性更好,因此粗糙度又降低;添加剂质量浓度继续增大到2.5 mg/L时,颗粒感更加明显,铜箔表面依旧较为平整,但出现明显空隙,致密性下降。综合SEM分析结果,添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时对应的铜箔晶粒生长较好。适宜质量浓度的聚醚类添加剂能细化铜箔晶粒,原因可能是添加剂极化作用较强,加快成核速度,抑制了晶粒生长,得到的铜箔致密性高,表面平整性好,各晶粒紧密结合在一起,提高了铜箔的抗拉性能。
铜箔为面心立方纯铜相[7],主要衍射峰为(111)、(200)和(220)。为了考察添加剂对铜箔晶面结构及取向的影响,对不同添加剂质量浓度下制备的锂电铜箔进行了XRD分析,结果如图3所示。在43.3°、50.4°、74.1°位置出现的衍射峰对应于Cu(PDF#04-0836)的(111)、(200)和(220)晶面。为了计算不同晶面的择优取向程度,引入择优取向系数T(hkl),其计算公式为:
式中:I(hkl)为hkl晶面的X射线衍射峰强度;I(hkl)0为PDF#04-8536卡片中标准铜(hkl)晶面以最高衍射峰(其强度为100)为基准的相对强度。
不同添加剂质量浓度下制备的铜箔各晶面择优取向系数见图4。从图4可以看出,随着添加剂质量浓度增大,择优取向系数T(111)T(200)总体呈上升趋势,而铜箔(220)晶面的T值总体呈下降趋势。添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时,铜箔(111)晶面显示出较强的择优取向特征,T(111)为52.31%。结合铜箔指标来看,(111)晶面有利于提高铜箔的抗拉强度。
1)电解液中添加不同质量浓度聚醚类添加剂均能使铜沉积电位负移,表现为极化作用,抑制电沉积;随着添加剂质量浓度增大,极化作用趋于稳定。
2)适宜质量浓度的聚醚类添加剂能细化铜箔晶粒,提高铜箔致密性、表面平整性。添加剂质量浓度2.3 mg/L时,所得铜箔抗拉强度为620.43 MPa,延伸率为3.67%,光泽度为161 GU,毛面粗糙度为1.02 μm,综合性能极好。
3)XRD表征结果表明,高抗拉强度电解铜箔具有(111)晶面择优取向特征。
