Nickel, Cobalt and Manganese in the cathode materials of spent ternary lithium-ion batteries were recovered by leaching with a combination of citric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The possible reactions during the leaching process were analyzed, and the effects of factors, including citric acid concentration, mass fraction of hydrogen peroxide, leaching temperature, leaching time and liquid-to-solid ratio on the leaching rates of nickel, cobalt and manganese from cathode materials were also investigated. It is found that after 60 min leaching at 80 ℃ with citric acid at a concentration of 1.5 mol/L, hydrogen peroxide at a mass fraction of 8%, and a liquid-to-solid ratio of 25 mL/g, the leaching rates of nickel, cobalt and manganese are 97.58%, 97.35% and 96.12%, respectively. Then, an antisolvent crystallization method is adopted with ethanol as antisolvent agent to recover metals from the obtained leach liquor, leading to the crystallization rates of nickel, cobalt and manganese at 92.34%, 93.07% and 99.69%, respectively.

采用柠檬酸+过氧化氢浸出体系从废旧三元锂离子电池正极材料中回收镍、钴、锰,分析了浸出过程中可能发生的反应,分别考察了柠檬酸浓度、过氧化氢质量分数、浸出温度、浸出时间、液固比等因素对正极材料中镍、钴、锰浸出率的影响。在柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L、过氧化氢质量分数8%、浸出温度80 ℃、浸出时间60 min及液固比25 mL/g条件下,金属镍、钴、锰浸出率分别为97.58%、97.35%、96.12%。以乙醇为溶析剂,采用溶析结晶法从浸出液中回收金属,镍、钴、锰结晶率分别为92.34%、93.07%、99.69%。

采用柠檬酸+过氧化氢浸出体系从废旧三元锂离子电池正极材料中回收镍、钴、锰,分析了浸出过程中可能发生的反应,分别考察了柠檬酸浓度、过氧化氢质量分数、浸出温度、浸出时间、液固比等因素对正极材料中镍、钴、锰浸出率的影响。在柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L、过氧化氢质量分数8%、浸出温度80 ℃、浸出时间60 min及液固比25 mL/g条件下,金属镍、钴、锰浸出率分别为97.58%、97.35%、96.12%。以乙醇为溶析剂,采用溶析结晶法从浸出液中回收金属,镍、钴、锰结晶率分别为92.34%、93.07%、99.69%。

Nickel, Cobalt and Manganese in the cathode materials of spent ternary lithium-ion batteries were recovered by leaching with a combination of citric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The possible reactions during the leaching process were analyzed, and the effects of factors, including citric acid concentration, mass fraction of hydrogen peroxide, leaching temperature, leaching time and liquid-to-solid ratio on the leaching rates of nickel, cobalt and manganese from cathode materials were also investigated. It is found that after 60 min leaching at 80 ℃ with citric acid at a concentration of 1.5 mol/L, hydrogen peroxide at a mass fraction of 8%, and a liquid-to-solid ratio of 25 mL/g, the leaching rates of nickel, cobalt and manganese are 97.58%, 97.35% and 96.12%, respectively. Then, an antisolvent crystallization method is adopted with ethanol as antisolvent agent to recover metals from the obtained leach liquor, leading to the crystallization rates of nickel, cobalt and manganese at 92.34%, 93.07% and 99.69%, respectively.

锂离子电池(LIBs)具有储能密度高、体积小、寿命长、循环次数多、安全环保等优点,被普遍应用于便携式电子设备、军事、医疗机械、电动和混合动力汽车以及公共事业服务中[1-2]。近年来,以动力LIBs为能量供应源的新能源汽车作为全球汽车产业转型升级及绿色发展的主要方向得到了快速发展,相应的动力LIBs需求量正呈现爆发式增长。
根据工业和信息化部发布的数据:2022年全国LIBs产量达750 GWh;2023年,全国LIBs总产量超过940 GWh,同比增长25%,其中动力型LIBs产量675 GWh,相比2022年(545.9 GWh)同比增长23.65%[3-4]
但废旧LIBs有一定使用寿命,服役一定时间就会报废。废旧LIBs中含有大量有价金属,如钴、锂、镍、锰、铁、铜、铝等,因此,回收废旧锂离子电池,有利于减少矿物供应压力、缓解我国金属资源短缺困境、实现锂电新能源产业的可持续发展[4-6]。此外,上述有价金属大部分属于有毒有害元素,从清洁生产和绿色化学的角度考虑,废旧LIBs的高效回收和再利用也是十分必要的[7]
目前废旧三元锂离子电池的主流回收处理技术主要分为三大类:物理分选法、火法冶金和湿法冶金。物理分选法通常运用破碎、研磨及分选等机械方法处理退役锂电池,实现对金属物质的回收,操作简单但效率低[8]。火法冶金回收工艺具有化学反应速率高、处理能力大、原料适应性强、操作简单、废渣对环境的影响较小等优点,但同时存在锂和铝等金属回收率较低、后续分离困难、能耗高、排放有毒气体等问题[9]。湿法冶金工艺包括氨浸法、有机酸浸出法、无机酸浸出法和生物浸出法等,相较火法冶金工艺,湿法冶金工艺金属回收率更高、操作方便、条件更温和。无机酸湿法浸出废旧LIBs,金属浸出率可达98%以上,但会产生有害气体及强酸性废液,对设备造成腐蚀[10-11]。柠檬酸作为温和的有机酸,腐蚀性较小且浸出过程中不会释放有毒有害气体[12]。鉴于目前柠檬酸体系浸出废旧电池正极材料的研究较少,本文采用柠檬酸为浸出剂、过氧化氢为还原剂处理三元锂离子电池正极活性物质,研究了柠檬酸浓度、过氧化氢质量分数、浸出温度、浸出时间与液固比对镍、钴、锰浸出率的影响,确定了较优的浸出条件。然后对浸出液进行溶析结晶处理,以回收其中的有价金属。研究结果可为废旧三元锂离子电池材料的处理提供可靠的技术参数。
实验所用原料是将废旧三元锂离子电池正极材料的铝箔分离后所得电池正极活性物质(以下简称正极材料),其XRD分析结果如图1所示,主要元素ICP测定结果见表1。由表1可知,正极材料中镍、钴、锰质量比接近6∶2∶2,且其中铝、铁、铜等杂质质量分数均较低。
实验试剂主要包括柠檬酸、过氧化氢、乙醇、异丙醇等,均为分析纯。
实验设备包括HH-4型数显恒温水浴锅、JJ-1型精密增力电动搅拌器、SHZ-D型循环水真空泵、pHS-2F型pH计等。
柠檬酸为有机弱酸,浸出过程中不会引入杂质离子,且不会产生有毒气体(如Cl2、SO3、NOx等)。柠檬酸分子式为C6H8O7,其中含有3个羧基,会发生三级解离反应,理论上1 mol柠檬酸解离能得到3 mol H+,但实际并不是所有的H+都会完全解离至溶液中。柠檬酸的解离反应为:
正极材料中,镍、钴、锰、锂以复杂金属氧化物形式存在,其中高价态的Ni3+、Co3+和Mn4+不易浸出,需添加适量还原剂将其分别还原为低价态Ni2+、Co2+和Mn2+。正极材料中各种金属不同价态的氧化物分别以MeO、Me2O3、MeO2表示,以柠檬酸(H3Cit)为浸出剂、H2O2为还原剂时,浸出反应如下:
浸出后,溶液中含有Li+、Ni2+、Co2+、Mn2+、H2Cit-、HCit2-和Cit3-,能进一步发生螯合反应形成螯合物,可能的螯合反应如下:
取正极材料置于圆底烧瓶中,按照一定液固比加入柠檬酸和双氧水,以水浴锅控制浸出温度,开启机械搅拌并计时。反应一定时间后,采用真空泵进行固液分离,测定浸出液中镍、钴、锰金属离子质量浓度,计算浸出率。
采用电感耦合等离子体发射光谱仪(ICP OES,Agilent 5110)测定浸出液中各金属元素质量浓度。采用X射线衍射仪(XRD,D8 ADVANCE A25)和场发射扫描电子显微镜(SEM,JSM-IT700HR)分别分析样品物相组成和微观形貌。采用红外光谱仪(Nicolet iS20)分析溶析结晶产物的官能团。
双氧水质量分数8%、浸出温度60 ℃、浸出时间60 min、液固比20 mL/g,柠檬酸浓度对镍、钴、锰浸出率的影响如图2所示。由图2可知,随着柠檬酸浓度增大,正极材料中镍、钴、锰浸出率逐渐增加;这是由于随着酸浓度增大,溶液与固液界面间酸的浓度梯度增大,促进反应物向固液界面扩散。柠檬酸浓度0.25 mol/L时,H+浓度低,化学反应速率慢,金属离子浸出速率较慢;柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L时,有价金属浸出率基本达到最大值;继续增加酸浓度,镍、钴、锰浸出速率有所下降。可能是溶液中发生螯合反应,柠檬酸浓度较低时,电离产生的H+被消耗,Cit3-、HCit2-、H2Cit-与金属离子螯合,形成稳定的螯合物;柠檬酸浓度过高时,H+消耗的量减少,便会抑制Cit3-、HCit2-、H2Cit-的形成,Ni2+、Co2+、Mn2+不能与配体形成稳定的螯合物,导致浸出率下降。综合考虑,柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L为宜。
柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L,其他条件不变,过氧化氢质量分数对镍、钴、锰浸出率的影响见图3。由图3可知,随着过氧化氢质量分数增加,镍、钴、锰浸出率增加。这是因为正极材料中镍、钴、锰等金属处在三价、四价的高价态,难以被酸直接浸出。随着过氧化氢加入,其提供的过氧根能使Ni3+、Co3+和Mn4+被还原至低价态Ni2+、Co2+和Mn2+,使镍、钴、锰离子脱离原来的氧化物,易于浸出至溶液中并与柠檬酸螯合。过氧化氢质量分数超过12%后,镍、钴、锰浸出率变化不大。适宜的过氧化氢质量分数为12%。
过氧化氢质量分数12%,其他条件不变,浸出温度对镍、钴、锰浸出率的影响见图4。由图4可知,浸出温度从20 ℃升到80 ℃,镍、钴、锰浸出率不断增大。柠檬酸与正极材料的浸出反应为吸热反应,升温有利于提高反应速率,使反应正向进行。浸出温度升至80 ℃后,活性物质已基本浸出,此时继续升温,过氧化氢在高温下分解,还原能力下降,镍、钴、锰浸出率下降。综合考虑,适宜的浸出温度为80 ℃。
浸出温度80 ℃,其他条件不变,浸出时间对浸出率的影响见图5。由图5可知,延长浸出时间,金属浸出率先增加后趋于平稳。浸出时间从30 min增至45 min,浸出率迅速提高;浸出60 min后,有价金属浸出基本完成,镍、钴、锰浸出率均在94%以上;继续延长浸出时间,浸出率变化不大。综合考虑,适宜的浸出时间为60 min。
浸出时间60 min,其他条件不变,液固比对浸出率的影响见图6。由图6可知,随着液固比增加,金属浸出率逐渐升高。增大液固比,体系溶液黏度降低,有利于离子扩散与反应的进行;同时,增大液固比,浸出剂柠檬酸充足,有价金属浸出率上升;液固比25 mL/g时,镍、钴、锰浸出率基本达到峰值;继续增加液固比,浸出率变化不大。适宜的液固比为25 mL/g。
由上述实验结果可知,以柠檬酸为浸出剂、过氧化氢为还原剂浸出正极材料的适宜条件为:柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L,过氧化氢质量分数12%,浸出温度80 ℃,浸出时间60 min,固液比为25 mL/g。在该条件下进行正极活性物质的浸出,浸出液中金属离子质量浓度见表2,正极材料及浸出渣的微观形貌见图7
表2数据计算得到镍、钴、锰浸出率分别为97.58%、97.35%、96.12%。由图7可知,浸出前正极材料中镍钴锰酸锂颗粒在有机黏结剂的作用下紧密结合,以大颗粒团聚物形式存在;浸出后,这些大颗粒团聚物破裂成形状不规则的小颗粒,小颗粒表面出现腐蚀坑;大部分有价金属离子被浸出后,留下有机黏结剂和导电剂的碳骨架空洞。
采用溶析结晶法对较优条件下浸出液中的镍、钴、锰进行回收。浸出液中3种金属的浓度分别为0.34 mol/L、0.11 mol/L、0.10 mol/L。在室温下,以乙醇为溶析剂,振荡速率130 r/min,通过蠕动泵以30 r/min的速率加入溶析剂,溶析结晶结果如图8所示。溶析剂与浸出液体积比为5∶1时,镍、钴、锰结晶率分别为91.27%,93.40%、99.67%,析出率高。
溶析结晶产物及浸出用一水合柠檬酸的FTIR检测结果如图9所示。可以看出,一水合柠檬酸在1 746 cm-1处出现了羧酸中羰基的特征吸收峰,而溶析结晶产物的主要吸收峰相比柠檬酸有了一定的向低频方向的位移。溶析结晶产物在1 558 cm-1处出现羧酸盐中羧基的反对称伸缩振动峰,在1 314 cm-1处出现羧基的对称伸缩振动峰,说明羧基氧与镍、钴、锰离子以配位键结合,产物为柠檬酸螯合物[13]
将溶析结晶产物在900 ℃下焙烧5 h,所得焙烧产物XRD物相分析结果如图10所示。由图10可知,焙烧后的溶析结晶产物由镍、钴、锰的氧化物组成。
1)采用柠檬酸-过氧化氢体系处理废旧三元锂离子电池正极材料,可实现镍、钴、锰的有效浸出。在柠檬酸浓度1.5 mol/L、过氧化氢质量分数12%、浸出温度80 ℃、浸出时间60 min、液固比25 mL/g条件下,镍、钴、锰浸出率分别为97.58%、97.35%、96.12%。
2)采用溶析结晶法,在室温下,以乙醇为溶析剂,溶析剂与浸出液体积比5∶1、振荡速率130 r/min、溶析剂加入速率30 r/min,镍、钴、锰以柠檬酸螯合物形式析出,其结晶率分别为91.27%、93.40%、99.67%;对溶析结晶产物进行焙烧,得到镍、钴、锰3种金属的氧化物。
