In order to explore the motion and structural response of the hard riser for lifting in deep-sea mining under the combined effect of external marine environment and internal coarse-particle solid-liquid two-phase flow, a numerical model of two-way fluid-structure interaction between the internal and external fluids in the hard riser was established, and the displacement and stress characteristics of the riser were calculated. The numerical calculation results show that nodule size has minor effect on the maximum stress and maximum displacement of the hard riser. By contrast, conveying concentration and flow rate can significantly increase both parameters. In addition, compared with the working condition without vessel motion, the maximum stress of the riser can rise by 21.7%-52.1%, and the maximum displacement can increase by 182.1%-247.0% when vessel motion is taken into account, which indicates that vessel motion exerts a remarkable influence on the dynamic response of the hard riser.
