To learn about the real situation of civil scientific literacy in Hubei province and reveal its function in Chinese society, a survey of questionnaires was conducted. By means of single variable statistical analysis and double-variable alternative analysis of 1 234 samples, this paper describes the current status of civil scientific literacy in Hubei province, discusses the relationship between scientific literacy and the society, indicates some problems with this respect that need to be improved. Through the analyses, the authors come to a conclusion that civil scientific literacy must be enhanced in order to ensure social harmony; this is also what should be included in the development of a harmonious society in new era.

为了解湖北省公民科学素养的现实状态，深刻地揭示科学素养在当代中国社会中的作用和交互关系，运用实证研究方法，通过问卷调查的方式，在湖北省境内展开研究。通过对1 234名样本的单变量描述性统计分析和双变量的交互分析，探讨了当前湖北省公民的科学素养现状，科学素养与当前社会之间存在着一系列的关系，同时也发现了在科学素养中的很多亟待改进的问题。通过这些分析，我们认为为保证一个社会和谐有效的运转，必须提高公民的科学素养，这也是新时代和谐社会发展的应有之意。
