Baotou Steel is one of the main production bases of heavy rail steel in China and large size nonmetallic inclusions are the bottleneck restricting improvement of quality of heavy rail steel. In this paper, the control technology for superfine dispersion of inclusions in heavy rail steel with magnesium is developed based on the physicochemical and metallurgical properties of magnesium. The comparative analysis between industrial tests of magnesium modification and traditional process showed that the inclusions in heavy rail steel such as MnS and CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 were transformed into small size composite inclusions of MgO·Al2O3 and MnS, density of inclusions on vertical and horizontal observation planes and intermediate vertical observation plane of the rail were increased from 17 mm-2, 21 mm-2 and 18 mm-2 to 22 mm-2, 29 mm-2 and 25 mm-2 respectively, while equivalent diameters were decreased from 2.7 μm, 2.6 μm and 2.4 μm to 2.3 μm, 2.4 μm and 2.3 μm respectively as well as proportion of area of inclusions were decreased from 0.017%, 0.016% and 0.014% to 0.013%, 0.014% and 0.012% respectively after magnesium modification. Moreover, the nonmetallic inclusions in steel are rated as Grade A (0.5, 0.5), Grade B (0.5, 0.5), Grade C (1.0, 0.5), Grade D (0.5, 0.5) and Grade Ds (0) according to Method A as well as rated as 2.78 according to Method K. The inclusions of heavy rail steel after magnesium modification could meet the standard requirements.

包钢是我国主要的重轨钢生产基地之一,大尺寸的非金属夹杂物是制约重轨钢质量提高的瓶颈。文章基于镁的理化及冶金性能,开发镁对重轨钢夹杂物微细弥散化控制技术。镁改质工业试验与传统工艺对比分析显示,镁改质后,重轨钢中的MnS、CaO-Al2O3-SiO2夹杂物转变为小尺寸的MgO·Al2O3与MnS的复合夹杂物,钢轨垂直观察面、水平观察面、中间垂直观察面的夹杂物密度分别由17 mm-2、21 mm-2、18 mm-2增加到22 mm-2、29 mm-2、25 mm-2,等效直径分别由2.7 μm、2.6 μm、2.4 μm减小到2.3 μm、2.4 μm、2.3 μm,夹杂物面积占比分别由0.017%、0.016%、0.014%减小到0.013%、0.014%、0.012%。镁改质后钢中非金属夹杂物按A法评级为A类(0.5,0.5)、B类(0.5,0.5)、C类(1.0,0.5)、D类(0.5,0.5)、Ds类(0),按K法评级为2.78。镁改质后重轨钢夹杂物满足标准要求。

包钢是我国主要的重轨钢生产基地之一,大尺寸的非金属夹杂物是制约重轨钢质量提高的瓶颈。文章基于镁的理化及冶金性能,开发镁对重轨钢夹杂物微细弥散化控制技术。镁改质工业试验与传统工艺对比分析显示,镁改质后,重轨钢中的MnS、CaO-Al2O3-SiO2夹杂物转变为小尺寸的MgO·Al2O3与MnS的复合夹杂物,钢轨垂直观察面、水平观察面、中间垂直观察面的夹杂物密度分别由17 mm-2、21 mm-2、18 mm-2增加到22 mm-2、29 mm-2、25 mm-2,等效直径分别由2.7 μm、2.6 μm、2.4 μm减小到2.3 μm、2.4 μm、2.3 μm,夹杂物面积占比分别由0.017%、0.016%、0.014%减小到0.013%、0.014%、0.012%。镁改质后钢中非金属夹杂物按A法评级为A类(0.5,0.5)、B类(0.5,0.5)、C类(1.0,0.5)、D类(0.5,0.5)、Ds类(0),按K法评级为2.78。镁改质后重轨钢夹杂物满足标准要求。

Baotou Steel is one of the main production bases of heavy rail steel in China and large size nonmetallic inclusions are the bottleneck restricting improvement of quality of heavy rail steel. In this paper, the control technology for superfine dispersion of inclusions in heavy rail steel with magnesium is developed based on the physicochemical and metallurgical properties of magnesium. The comparative analysis between industrial tests of magnesium modification and traditional process showed that the inclusions in heavy rail steel such as MnS and CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 were transformed into small size composite inclusions of MgO·Al2O3 and MnS, density of inclusions on vertical and horizontal observation planes and intermediate vertical observation plane of the rail were increased from 17 mm-2, 21 mm-2 and 18 mm-2 to 22 mm-2, 29 mm-2 and 25 mm-2 respectively, while equivalent diameters were decreased from 2.7 μm, 2.6 μm and 2.4 μm to 2.3 μm, 2.4 μm and 2.3 μm respectively as well as proportion of area of inclusions were decreased from 0.017%, 0.016% and 0.014% to 0.013%, 0.014% and 0.012% respectively after magnesium modification. Moreover, the nonmetallic inclusions in steel are rated as Grade A (0.5, 0.5), Grade B (0.5, 0.5), Grade C (1.0, 0.5), Grade D (0.5, 0.5) and Grade Ds (0) according to Method A as well as rated as 2.78 according to Method K. The inclusions of heavy rail steel after magnesium modification could meet the standard requirements.

包钢是中国重要的钢铁工业基地之一。作为新中国首批建设的三大钢铁企业之一,其生产的钢材广泛应用于国家重点工程[1]。包钢自成立70年以来,不断进行技术革新和产业升级,为我国的经济建设和国防建设提供了重要支撑,从最初生产的单一钢铁产品,到后来能够生产无缝钢管、稀土钢、重轨钢等高端钢材[2-4],包钢的产品种类和质量都得到了极大的提高,在国内外填补了多个领域的技术空白,为中国的现代化建设提供了强有力的材料保障。
在国家实施“八纵八横”铁路网规划和西部开发的背景下,重轨钢的质量要求越来越高,《铁路用热轧钢轨》标准于2021年完成修订并开始实施[5],在新标准中,针对非金属夹杂物提出了更高的要求,时速300 km/h的钢轨比时速200 km/h的钢轨,A类夹杂物评级从2.5级提高到了2.0级,B类、C类、D类从1.5级提高到了1.0级,夹杂物控制成为高品质重轨钢开发的关键。
包钢率先在国际上实现钢铁企业生产500 m成品钢轨和直供线路铺设,依托“镁冶金弥散化控制技术在高品质重轨钢开发及工艺创新上的应用”研究,率先开展镁对重轨钢夹杂物调控的研究。希冀改变传统夹杂物控制技术[6]对生产节奏、综合成本的较大影响,在新技术中,把夹杂物当作钢的天然组成部分,通过夹杂物改质,让夹杂物微细弥散化,把夹杂物从对钢性能有害向无害甚至有益的方向转化,开创一种成本更低、节奏更快的高强韧钢材开发新途径[7-9]
本文主要介绍镁对重轨钢夹杂物调控的研究,在实验室冶炼试验摸索的最佳控制参数基础上,开展了镁对重轨钢夹杂物改质对比试验,取得了较好的工艺控制效果。
镁冶金技术是国内外公认的最具潜力的夹杂物调控技术。从20世纪90代至今,日本、美国、韩国等国家的先进钢铁企业开展了系统的研究及应用,镁冶金技术在船板钢、汽车钢、管线钢、非调质钢、轴承钢等得到广泛的应用[10-13]
镁是元素周期表中ⅡA族元素,沸点较低,在1 107 ℃时,镁在钢液中的溶解度为0.1%[14]。向熔融的钢液中加入镁,镁会迅速气化成气泡上升,在镁气泡上升的过程中,一部分镁会与钢中的氧和硫发生反应,而另一部分溶解的镁也会与氧和硫发生反应[15-16]。镁具有很强的脱氧、脱硫能力,且脱氧能力大于脱硫能力,仅需少量的镁就可以将钢中氧含量降低到很低的值,在1 600 ℃下仅需要很少的镁就可以将氧脱到很低的水平,但是当镁含量增加到0.001 0%后,镁的脱氧效果不明显[17]
镁改质的钢液中易生成细小弥散的MgO或MgO·Al2O3。这些氧化物形核的势垒更低[18],形核率更高,MgO的临界形核半径为0.24 nm,远小于Al2O3的临界形核半径0.65 nm;MgO的形核率为399 n/(s·cm3),远比Al2O3的171 n/(s·cm3)的形核率高;MgO、MgO·Al2O3与钢液之间的接触角要比Al2O3小的多,与钢液间的界面张力小,颗粒之间吸引力约为Al2O3夹杂物的1/10,因此MgO、MgO·Al2O3不易聚集长大[19-20],在钢液中更容易呈现细小弥散的分布状态。镁改质后细小弥散的夹杂物,与有尖锐棱角的Al2O3夹杂物不同,细小夹杂物的边缘几乎都是圆滑的,因而在后续加工过程中不会成为裂纹源[21],因此能作为硫化物、氧化物、碳化物、奥氏体晶粒凝固形核的核心[22-23],形成复合夹杂物,改善钢材性能。国外将钢液加镁改质的工艺,称为镁氧化物冶金技术。
研究发现[24-29],向钢液中加镁可以同时对钢中的氧化物和硫化物进行改性,镁能将钢中Al2O3和CaO-Al2O3改质为MgO-Al2O3夹杂包裹氧化铝的复合夹杂物,这种复合夹杂物的数量随着镁含量的增加而变多,镁改质后钢液洁净度显著提高,夹杂物分布更加均匀,尺寸更小。相对于传统的钙改质,镁改质对硫化物有显著的变质作用,可将Ⅱ类和Ⅲ类硫化物转变为Ⅰ类,钢中原本长条状的硫化物转变为细小弥散的纺锤状硫化物,MnS夹杂物由单独的MnS转变为以MgO·Al2O3为核心,外围包裹着MnS所构成的复合夹杂物,此类复合夹杂物抗变形能力提高,在轧制过程中能够保持近球形或纺锤形。
综上所述,镁可以对钢中夹杂物起到变质改性作用,尤其是氧化物、硫化物,向熔融的钢液中加入镁,可以使钢中的Al2O3夹杂物转变为MgO·Al2O3复合夹杂物,MnS夹杂物转变成MgS夹杂物以及MgS·MnS复合夹杂物,且夹杂物以细小弥散的形式分布在钢中,不易团聚长大,钢液的洁净度得到提高。
重轨钢中B类(Al2O3类)、C类(硅酸盐类)夹杂物,特别是靠近踏面位置的夹杂物可能成为应力集中点,导致重轨服役失效,也可能象A类夹杂物衍生焊接问题,是目前制约重轨钢质量的瓶颈之一。为持续提高包钢重轨钢洁净度,对包钢重轨钢进行镁改质工业试验,在保持原有生产工艺不变的条件下,在真空精炼处理后,对钢液进行镁改质,具体工艺流程为:铁水预处理→转炉冶炼→LF炉外精炼→VD真空脱气→镁改质→连铸。镁以含镁包芯线的形式加入,喂线前要求钢水过热度在60~70 ℃,钢中活度氧含量不超过0.001 0%。根据热力学分析制定镁改质工艺要求,含镁包芯线喂入量为大于0.020 0%,在喂线工艺结束后,进行软吹处理,促使夹杂物充分上浮;在钢液表面覆盖碳化稻壳进行保温,防止钢液氧化。
为分析重轨钢夹杂物的镁改质效果,对镁改质前后的重轨产品分别取样分析,采用线切割的方法从轨头截取3个横断面,每个断面取2个金相试样,对3个观察面进行检测分析,取样观察示意图如图1所示,检测其化学成分见表1。成品钢轨夹杂物取样和检测均采取高密度检测方式,以保证试验真实性。
图2为镁改质前后重轨钢中典型夹杂物的三维形貌和成分。镁改质前,重轨钢中的夹杂物主要有MnS、CaO-Al2O3-SiO2,MnS夹杂物以长条状和片状的形式单独存在,尺寸集中分布在20~100 μm之间,CaO-Al2O3-SiO2夹杂物呈灰褐色,其沿轧制方向发生了破碎,呈窜簇状,尺寸集中分布在20~80 μm;镁改质后重轨钢中的夹杂物主要为MgO·Al2O3与MnS的复合夹杂,MgO·Al2O3·MnS主要由外围包裹着灰色的MnS和中心呈黑色的MgO·Al2O3两部分组成,和镁改质前相比,夹杂物变形程度普遍减小,大尺寸夹杂物基本消失,尺寸分布在10~50 μm。
图3为镁改质前后重轨钢中夹杂物的密度、等效直径、面积占比的统计结果。镁改质前,垂直观察面、水平观察面、中间垂直观察面的夹杂物密度分别为17 mm-2、21 mm-2、18 mm-2,等效直径分别为2.7 μm、2.6 μm、2.4 μm,面积占比分别为0.017%、0.016%、0.014%;镁改质后,垂直观察面、水平观察面、中间垂直观察面的夹杂物密度分别为22 mm-2、29 mm-2、25 mm-2,等效直径分别为2.3 μm、2.4 μm、2.3 μm,面积占比分别为0.013%、0.014%、0.012%。整体而言,镁改质后夹杂物密度增加,等效直径和面积占比减小,结合SEM和EDS分析结果可知,镁改质使得重轨钢中的夹杂物更加均匀地分散在钢基体中,原本较大尺寸的夹杂物经过变质,转变为尺寸更小的夹杂物,这有助于改善钢材的整体性能。
图4为镁改质前后重轨钢中大尺寸夹杂物分布,其中61~66为镁改质后重轨钢钢轨,71~76为镁改质前重轨钢钢轨。统计发现,未改质与镁改质大尺寸夹杂物(评级达到1.5级以上)数量占比:垂直观察面为6∶1,水平观察面为2∶0,中间垂直观察面为3∶0。图5为镁改质前后重轨钢中硫化物长宽比分布。统计发现,镁改质后,垂直观察面、水平观察面、中间垂直观察面的夹杂物长宽比平均值分别由19.4、14.0、17.2减小到10.1、7.3、12.3。镁改质后可以改变柔软硫化物的存在形式,减小夹杂物长宽比。
表2为镁改质前后重轨钢中夹杂物评级,可以看出,按K法评级,镁改质后夹杂物评级由原样的8.01降到2.78;按A法评级,原样钢中的A类和B类的粗系、细系均为0.5级,C类粗系1级、细类0.5级,D类粗系和细系均为1级,Ds类0.5级。镁改质后,钢中A类和B类的粗系、细系均为0.5级,C类粗系1级、细类0.5级,D类粗系和细系均降为0.5级,Ds类降为0级,钢中夹杂物整体评级较好。由此可见,镁改质显著细化了钢中的夹杂物。
(1)镁对重轨钢夹杂物调控研究发现,镁对重轨钢中夹杂物改质效果明显,取得较好的实物改善效果。镁改质后钢中非金属夹杂物按A法评级:A类和B类的粗系、细系均为0.5级,C类粗系为1级、细系为0.5级,D类粗系、细系均为0.5级,Ds类为0级;按K法评级为2.78。夹杂物弥散化效果显著。
(2)镁改质后,夹杂物性质和组分改变。重轨钢中的夹杂物由MnS、CaO-Al2O3-SiO2转变为MgO·Al2O3与MnS的复合夹杂物,夹杂物变形程度较小,大尺寸夹杂物基本消失,尺寸分布在10~50 μm。
(3)镁改质后,重轨钢洁净度显著提高。钢轨垂直观察面、水平观察面、中间垂直观察面的夹杂物密度分别由17 mm-2、21 mm-2、18 mm-2增加到22 mm-2、29 mm-2、25 mm-2,等效直径分别由2.7 μm、2.6 μm、2.4 μm减小到2.3 μm、2.4 μm、2.3 μm,夹杂物面积占比分别由0.017%、0.016%、0.014%减小到0.013%、0.014%、0.012%。
