In order to find a carrier-to-noise ratio estimation method with low computation and strong practicality, this paper draws on the experience of the classical variance summing method and proposes an improved algorithm. The distribution of the absolute value of the I-branch accumulative value is deduced when stably tracking GPS signals, and an expression for estimating the carrier-to-noise ratio is given based on its statistical characteristics. The Q-branch accumulative value is not necessary in this algorithm. From the aspects of estimation accuracy and computation, the improved algorithm is verified by simulation and actual measurement data analysis. The results show that the overall performance of the improved algorithm is equivalent, with an error of less than 0.4 dBHz, the stability is better than that of the classical variance summing method and narrow to wide power ratio method, and the computation is reduced by 50% compared to that the classical algorithm. The method has certain practicality in some receivers with limited hardware resources.

为找到一种计算量低和实用性强的载噪比估计算法,本文分析了宽窄带功率比值法与方差求和法的计算思路,提出一种改进的载噪比估计算法。在稳定跟踪GPS信号时,对I支路累加值的绝对值分布进行了推导,利用其统计特性给出了一种估计载噪比的表达式,算法不需要Q支路的累加值信息。从估计精度和计算量两个角度进行了仿真验证和实测数据分析,结果表明:改进算法的总体性能与经典方差求和法相当,其估计偏差小于0.4 dBHz,稳定性比宽窄带功率比值法与方差求和法更好,计算量相较于经典算法降低了50%,在硬件资源紧张的接收机中有一定的实用性。

为找到一种计算量低和实用性强的载噪比估计算法,本文分析了宽窄带功率比值法与方差求和法的计算思路,提出一种改进的载噪比估计算法。在稳定跟踪GPS信号时,对I支路累加值的绝对值分布进行了推导,利用其统计特性给出了一种估计载噪比的表达式,算法不需要Q支路的累加值信息。从估计精度和计算量两个角度进行了仿真验证和实测数据分析,结果表明:改进算法的总体性能与经典方差求和法相当,其估计偏差小于0.4 dBHz,稳定性比宽窄带功率比值法与方差求和法更好,计算量相较于经典算法降低了50%,在硬件资源紧张的接收机中有一定的实用性。

In order to find a carrier-to-noise ratio estimation method with low computation and strong practicality, this paper draws on the experience of the classical variance summing method and proposes an improved algorithm. The distribution of the absolute value of the I-branch accumulative value is deduced when stably tracking GPS signals, and an expression for estimating the carrier-to-noise ratio is given based on its statistical characteristics. The Q-branch accumulative value is not necessary in this algorithm. From the aspects of estimation accuracy and computation, the improved algorithm is verified by simulation and actual measurement data analysis. The results show that the overall performance of the improved algorithm is equivalent, with an error of less than 0.4 dBHz, the stability is better than that of the classical variance summing method and narrow to wide power ratio method, and the computation is reduced by 50% compared to that the classical algorithm. The method has certain practicality in some receivers with limited hardware resources.

载噪比(Carrier-to-Noise Ratio,CNR)是GPS接收机输出的一个非常重要的测量参数,能直接反映出接收机收到GPS信号的质量。在GPS接收机中,信号捕获门限与载噪比有着直接关系,而且载噪比也是重要的控制参数,用于环路锁定检测[1]、抑制多路径干扰[2,3]等。当载噪比较低时,伪距测量精度以及定位精度会有所降低,接收机跟踪环路可能发生失锁甚至丢失信号[4]。目前,接收机通常将载噪比作为GPS的一个测量值输出[5],因此,准确地估计载噪比,对接收机性能提升有相当重要的作用。
由于在GPS接收的数字中频信号中,信号部分和噪声部分混在一起,难以直接估计噪声功率。一种解决方法是增加专门用来估算噪声基底的接收通道[6],这种方法能直接估计噪声功率,但需要单独增加一个额外的通道并分配较多的计算资源,不适用于大部分GPS接收机。目前,载噪比估计算法大部分利用ADC后I、Q两个支路信号的各种统计特性进行估计[7,8],经典算法有宽窄带功率比值法(Narrow to Wide Power Ratio Method, NWPRM)[9,10]、方差求和法(Variance Summing Method, VSM)[11,12]、平方信噪比方差法[13]等,其中NWPRM法和VSM法应用最广泛。这些算法都要对I、Q支路累加值进行平方和累加,以获取信号和噪声的总功率。在实际应用中,由于GPS接收机需要实时估计载噪比,一般每秒都需要对载噪比做出估算,而经典的估计算法带来的计算量较大,对于一些硬件资源紧张的接收机,比如乘法器资源受限等,需要寻找降低计算量的估计方法。
为解决上述问题,本文提出了一种改进的载噪比估计算法。在稳定跟踪GPS信号时,该方法无需Q支路上的信息,仅需要利用I支路绝对值的分布特性,就能推导出载噪比的估计表达式。而在接收机刚启动、信号很弱或其他环路不稳定的情况下,采用经典的算法对载噪比进行估计。本文从估计精度和计算量两个角度进行了仿真验证和实测数据分析,结果表明:改进算法的总体性能与经典VSM法相当,所需的计算量显著降低。
GPS接收机的跟踪通道与载噪比估计相关的部分结构如图1所示。
GPS数字中频信号先与本地载波NCO混频,得到两路正交的基带信号,再经过复制的C/A码相乘相关后剥离信号上的C/A码,经过相干积分后,I、Q支路上信号的输出表达式为[14]
式中,D(n)是值为±1的随机数据电平值,τ是复制测距码和接收测距码间的相位差,R(·)是自相关函数,fe(n)是载波复制信号和接收信号间的频率差,Tcoh是相干积分时间,ϕe(n)是载波复制信号和接收信号间的相位差,Ni(n)和Nq(n)分别为I、Q支路上的随机噪声,且服从均值为零、方差为σ2的高斯分布。
载噪比等于信噪比乘以信号带宽:

经典宽窄带功率比值法的思想是:分别在宽带和窄带上计算信号和噪声的能量,利用两个能量的比值与信噪比的关系来估计载噪比,从而避开求信号功率和噪声功率[16]

由此可见,NWPRM法需要考虑电文翻转问题,需要先进行比特同步以保证MTcoh长的数据在同一个比特内[18]。一般相干积分时间Tcoh为1 ms,NWPRM法的Mh的经典取值一般为20和50,这样1 s可以估计1次载噪比。
经典方差求和法的思想是:对一段时间的信号和噪声的功率和求均值和方差,利用它们分别计算有用信号功率和噪声功率来估计载噪比[19]

对于1 ms的相干积分,N的经典取值一般为1 000,这样1 s可以估计1次载噪比。VSM方法的计算原理简单,但在信号有较大的波动时,较大的运算量导致计算时间较长,估计精度也会有所降低[20]
通过对I支路累加值的统计特性进行分析,提出一种只用I支路的累加值进行载噪比估计的方法,从而省略对I、Q支路累加值进行平方和累加,可以节省接收机乘法器等硬件资源。
当信号稳定跟踪时,载波复制信号和接收信号间的相位差很小,即ϕe(n)≈0,则I支路信号可近似为

I(n)看作一个随机变量(以下简记为I),其符合均值为AD(n)、方差为σ2的高斯分布,即IN(AD(n),σ2)。设标准高斯随机变量ZN(0,1),则有I=AD(n)+σZ,以下考察随机变量X=|I|=|AD(n)+σZ|的统计特性。X的累积分布函数为

式(24)建立了R与理论信噪比的比值关系,表明R是关于的函数,分析可知R的值随着的增大而越来越接近理论信噪比。当R的值近似等于理论信噪比时,就能根据式(3)近似估计出载噪比。
由式(3)可得
在室外环境下,导航接收机接收信号的载噪比大约在35 dBHz~55 dBHz的范围内[21],如果相干积分为1 ms,则对应的信噪比在5 dB~25 dB,此时的范围约为2.51~25.15。将不同理论载噪比对应的代入式(24)可得由R估计的载噪比,结果如图2所示,与理论载噪比的误差如图3所示。
可见误差随着载噪比增大而逐渐降低,最大的误差约为0.1 dB,对于一般的室外环境误差已经很小。而实际上,GPS接收机能稳定工作所需的信噪比不止5 dB,当相干积分时间为1 ms时,等效带宽为1 kHz,带宽内的等效噪声功率为-174 dBW,这样对于-160 dBW的输入信号,1 ms的相干积分可以产生14 dB(-160+174)的信噪比。在信噪比为14 dB时,接收机可以达到90%的检测概率,并在200 ms产生一个错误,这样可以得到一个令人满意的结果[22]。当信号弱于-160 dBW时,接收机通常需要通过加长相干、非相干积分时间等方法来达到提高信噪比的目的,而最小信噪比目标值通常就是14 dB,此时对应有最小值约为7.09而不是2.51,根据图3,相应的估计误差也更低。因此,在实际应用中,估计误差基本不会超过图3所示的最大值0.1 dB,可以直接用R值来近似估计载噪比,算法计算步骤如下:
当相干积分时间为1 ms,N取值为1 000时,可1 s估计一次载噪比。
以上算法假设了锁相环已经锁定了信号并稳定跟踪,此时相位差在零附近晃动,信号全部集中在I支路,因此无需Q支路就能进行载噪比的估计。当接收机刚启动、信号很弱或其他环路不稳定的情况出现时,此时相位差ϕe(n)并不约等于零,如果忽略Q支路上的信息,算法性能会有所下降。二象限反正切鉴相器可以利用I、Q支路的相干积分结果进行鉴相,其牵入范围为-90°~90°,考察相位差ϕe(n)在-90°~90°范围内变化时载噪比的估计误差,结果如图4所示。
图4可知,当相位差在-19°~19°时,误差在0.5 dBHz以内,超过该范围后迅速增大,估计的载噪比将比理论值要低,此时需运用经典的算法进行载噪比估计。综上,改进的GPS载噪比估计算法流程如图5所示。
在信号稳定跟踪的条件下,将提出的改进算法与经典VSM法和NWPRM法进行对比,从估计精度、算法计算量两个角度说明改进算法的适用性和优势。
仿真数据基于MATLAB生成,噪底为-204 dBW/Hz,相干积分时间为1 ms,经典VSM法N取值为1 000 ,经典NWPRM法的Mh取值分别为20 和50 ,改进算法N取值为1 000 ,即都是1 s估计一次载噪比。信号功率范围为-169 dBW~-149 dBW,即载噪比范围为35 dBHz~55 dBHz,在不同信号功率下分别用三种方法估计载噪比,估计偏差如图6所示,标准差如图7所示。
图6图7可知,NWPRM法在载噪比较大时性能有所下降,改进算法的估计偏差小于0.4 dBHz,标准差随着载噪比增大呈现下降趋势,总体性能与VSM法相当,且改进算法的标准差比VSM和NWPRM法略低,这是由于省略了Q支路带来的不稳定性,因此算法估计的稳定性更好。
相干积分时间为1 ms时,经典VSM法、NWPRM法和改进算法的各项参数配置与4.1节相同,1 s估计一次载噪比所需要的计算量如表1所示。由表1可知,由于改进算法不需要对I、Q支路累加值进行平方和累加,比VSM法和NWPRM法少了近2 000次加法和1 000多次乘法,约为经典算法的50%。在一些硬件资源紧张的实际应用中,由于要实时估计载噪比,改进算法节约的资源是相当可观的。
实测数据采用美国科罗拉多大学博尔德分校收集的一段GPS数字中频数据,中频频率为9.55 MHz,采样频率为38.192 MHz。分别用经典VSM法、经典NWPRM法和改进算法对这段数据进行估计,不同卫星接收信号的载噪比在三种算法下的估计对比结果如图8~图11所示。
图8~图11可知,改进的算法估计出的载噪比大小与经典VSM方法几乎相等,只有在第1秒的时候比VSM方法小一些,因为第1秒内刚刚锁定信号,此时环路还处在不稳定的阶段,卫星PRN21对应通道的I、Q支路的相干积分值说明了这一点。如图12图13所示,在100 ms前环路还处在逐渐进入稳定的过程中,其他卫星类似。例如在第10 ms时,鉴相的相位差为39°,此时可以用VSM算法来估计载噪比。综上,说明了提出的改进算法的正确性。
在实际工程应用中,接收机刚启动、信号很弱或其他环路不稳定的情况持续时间很短,且可以通过丢弃该通道卫星等方式解决环路不稳的问题。
对于接收机刚启动时的情况,4.3节实测数据分析表明,在启动第1 s时,改进算法会比VSM方法少1 dB~2 dB,其他时刻性能与VSM方法相当。工程应用中这样的性能基本能满足实际需要,实际绝大多数时刻环路都是稳定的,改进算法带来的计算量减少有应用的优势。
对于信号很弱的情况,工程应用中,载噪比作为环路检测的一个门限参数,低于某个载噪比的卫星信号往往会选择丢弃,改为搜索其他的卫星,这样能高效地利用有限的通道。这样信号很弱的载噪比测定不再是需要考虑的问题,而强度在跟踪灵敏度之上的信号,环路可以稳定跟踪,改进算法的估计精度有保障。
对于其他环路不稳定时的情况,工程应用中,还有其他环路检测的手段,比如码环的自相关主峰形状是否符合三角形,载波环的鉴相误差是否过大等,一旦判断某通道环路不再稳定,往往会选择丢弃该通道卫星改为搜索其他卫星。
虽然改进算法具有一定的局限性,但实用性也较强,工程上具有一定意义。为了接收机能严谨测定载噪比,建议以改进算法为主,经典VSM方法为辅,两种方法相结合以应对可能未曾考虑到的情况。
本文分析了宽窄带功率比值法与方差求和法的计算思路,提出了一种改进的载噪比估计算法。相对于经典的VSM法和NWPRM法,该算法在信号稳定跟踪时,无需Q支路上的信息,仅需要计算I支路绝对值的均值和标准差,就能获得与VSM相当的估计精度。且改进算法不需要对I、Q支路累加值进行平方和累加,计算量比这两种经典算法降低了50%,在一些硬件资源紧张的GPS接收机中有一定的实用性。算法在相位差超过19°时需用经典算法进行估计,寻找一种计算量低的算法来适应相位差较大时的情况是接下来的研究方向。
