Radar communication integration is an effective solution to spectrum competition and electromagnetic interference. The integrated waveform determines the architecture and performance of the integrated system. This paper proposes a radar communication integrated waveform based on multi-frequency-band Chirp-BOK to solve the low communication rate issue in Chirp Binary Orthogonal Keying (Chirp-BOK). Furthermore, it designs modulation and demodulation methods based on Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT) and Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) to reduce system complexity. To tackle the high Bit Error Rate(BER) issue, an optimization method using a double-window approach to reduce the judgment frequency is proposed. The ambiguity function and Doppler performance of the multi-frequency-band Chirp-BOK are analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that the multi-frequency-band Chirp-BOK not only enhances the communication rate but also reduces the BER, ensuring detection resolution and excellent Doppler tolerance.

雷达通信一体化是解决频谱竞争和电磁干扰的有效途径,而一体化波形设计直接决定着一体化系统架构和性能。本文针对线性调频-二进制正交键控(Chirp Binary Orthogonal Keying,Chirp-BOK)信号通信速率低的问题,提出了一种基于多频带Chirp-BOK的雷达通信一体化波形,设计了基于快速傅里叶逆变换(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform,IFFT)和快速傅里叶变换(Fast Fourier Transform,FFT)的调制解调方法,降低了系统复杂度。针对多频带Chirp-BOK一体化波形误码率高的问题,本文设计了一种基于双窗函数衰减判决频点的误码率优化方法;分析了多频带Chirp-BOK一体化信号的模糊函数和多普勒性能,仿真结果表明:多频带Chirp-BOK在提升通信速率的同时,降低了误码率,在保证探测精度的同时具有良好的多普勒容忍性。

雷达通信一体化是解决频谱竞争和电磁干扰的有效途径,而一体化波形设计直接决定着一体化系统架构和性能。本文针对线性调频-二进制正交键控(Chirp Binary Orthogonal Keying,Chirp-BOK)信号通信速率低的问题,提出了一种基于多频带Chirp-BOK的雷达通信一体化波形,设计了基于快速傅里叶逆变换(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform,IFFT)和快速傅里叶变换(Fast Fourier Transform,FFT)的调制解调方法,降低了系统复杂度。针对多频带Chirp-BOK一体化波形误码率高的问题,本文设计了一种基于双窗函数衰减判决频点的误码率优化方法;分析了多频带Chirp-BOK一体化信号的模糊函数和多普勒性能,仿真结果表明:多频带Chirp-BOK在提升通信速率的同时,降低了误码率,在保证探测精度的同时具有良好的多普勒容忍性。

Radar communication integration is an effective solution to spectrum competition and electromagnetic interference. The integrated waveform determines the architecture and performance of the integrated system. This paper proposes a radar communication integrated waveform based on multi-frequency-band Chirp-BOK to solve the low communication rate issue in Chirp Binary Orthogonal Keying (Chirp-BOK). Furthermore, it designs modulation and demodulation methods based on Inverse Fast Fourier Transform(IFFT) and Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) to reduce system complexity. To tackle the high Bit Error Rate(BER) issue, an optimization method using a double-window approach to reduce the judgment frequency is proposed. The ambiguity function and Doppler performance of the multi-frequency-band Chirp-BOK are analyzed. Simulation results demonstrate that the multi-frequency-band Chirp-BOK not only enhances the communication rate but also reduces the BER, ensuring detection resolution and excellent Doppler tolerance.

随着无线电设备数量的不断增加以及对频谱资源的需求不断增长,雷达与通信设备间的频谱竞争和电磁干扰日益严重。雷达通信一体化允许雷达和通信系统共享同一频段,且在设备综合化和小型化上具有极大优势,从而成为近年的研究热点[1-3]
雷达通信一体化波形设计直接决定着一体化系统的架构和性能,在一体化系统设计中十分重要。目前雷达通信一体化波形主要可以分为三种:雷达与通信波形叠加、基于通信波形改造和基于雷达波形改造[4]。线性调频信号是一种频率随时间线性变化的脉冲压缩信号。其系统结构简单、易实现,是最常用的雷达波形之一,传统基于线性调频信号的雷达通信一体化波形直接使用数字调制方法在线性调频信号上调制通信信息,但直接调制通信信息会使线性调频信号变形,损失其抗多普勒频移性能[5-8]。而Chirp-BOK使用线性调频信号的正、反调频率进行信息携带处理[9],这种调制方式保留了Chirp信号线性调频的特性,从而具有良好的多普勒容忍性。
Chirp-BOK在一个线性调频周期内只能携带1 bit通信信息,严重限制了其通信速率。文献[10]利用不同的初始频率携带通信信息,其通信效率不高;文献[11-13]则使用频分复用(Frequency Division Multiplexing,FDM)的方式有效提高通信速率,但其模糊函数为“图钉形”,多普勒容忍性较差;文献[14]则使用正交频分复用(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing,OFDM)的Chirp信号提出了一种解模糊方法以解决脉冲多普勒雷达的模糊问题,但其每个脉冲只发射一个不同频带的Chirp信号,时频资源存在严重的浪费;传统OFDM信号通过调制星座携带通信数据,对多普勒频偏敏感,而Chirp-BOK具有良好的多普勒容忍性。
本文针对Chirp-BOK通信速率低的问题,提出了一种多频带Chirp-BOK雷达通信一体化波形,通信数据“0”和“1”使用正负线性调频信号表示,并通过频分复用提高其通信速率。借鉴OFDM的思想,在发射端使用两路IFFT进行通信数据调制,通信接收端使用两路FFT进行解调,并设计了双窗函数衰减FFT判决频点的方法降低通信误码率;雷达接收端则根据发射信号进行自适应部分匹配滤波以实现子脉冲积累,提高目标检测概率;分析了多频带Chirp-BOK的模糊函数,其多子脉冲信号旁瓣水平较高,因此该信号适合对单子脉冲处理并进行脉冲积累,多频带Chirp-BOK信号保留了带内Chirp信号线性调频的特点,从而使其具有良好的抗多普勒特性。
雷达探测与无线通信都是基于电磁波理论与信息论的应用实例,雷达通信一体化设备通过发射共用波形来实现目标探测与数据传输,这要求共用波形具有良好的自相关性以便于雷达探测,同时还要将通信数据调制到共用波形上以实现数据传输。
Chirp信号具有良好的自相关特性,是典型的雷达信号。Chirp-BOK使用两种调频率大小相同、方向相反的Chirp信号表示二进制数据“0”和“1”,升频信号(Up-Chirp)和降频信号(Down-Chirp)的时域表达式为:
式中,f0表示升频信号的起始频率,B表示Chirp信号带宽,μ表示调频斜率,是Chirp信号带宽与时宽的比值B/T图1所示为Chirp-BOK发射端原理图,本文使用Up-Chirp表示数据“1”,使用Down-Chirp表示数据“0”。
单频带Chirp-BOK信号的每个Chirp信号只能携带1 bit通信信息,其通信速率受Chirp信号周期限制而难以提高,借鉴频分复用的思想,多频带Chirp-BOK使用不同频带的正交性做频分复用,能够有效提高通信速率。多频带Chirp-BOK信号的表达式为:
式中,M为子频带个数,am为第m个频带上调制的二进制数据“0”或“1”,B为每个频带的带宽,即Chirp信号带宽,多频带Chirp-BOK信号的总带宽为MB图2所示为多频带Chirp-BOK的时频图,信号持续时间为T,共M个子带,每个子带使用Up/Down-Chirp表示通信数据“1”或“0”。
将一组频域上叠加的Chirp-BOK信号定义为一个子脉冲,则多个子脉冲的多频带Chirp-BOK信号的时域表达式为:
式中,N表示子脉冲个数,n表示第n个子脉冲,其他参数与式(2)参数定义相同。图3所示为一个4频带10子脉冲的多频带Chirp-BOK信号的时频图,其中一个Chirp信号的时间宽度为1 μs,子频带带宽为10 MHz。该图由短时傅里叶变换进行时频分析所得,整个信号持续时间定义为一个脉冲信号。
在使用快速傅里叶变换解调多频带Chirp-BOK时,两条解调支路分别为去升频信号解调(de-Up-Chirp)支路和去降频信号解调(de-Down-Chirp)支路,当其中任意子带在某条支路正确去除Chirp时,另一条支路的去Chirp操作会使该子带信号频谱拓宽一倍:以Up-Chirp为例,在de-Up-Chirp支路去除线性调频信号后变为一个单频信号;而该信号通过de-Down-Chirp支路后频谱以mB为中心拓宽一倍,即能够正确完成去Chirp的支路能量会聚集到单一频率上,而相对支路则无法实现能量聚集。式(4)为Up-Chirp通过两条de-Chirp解调支路的时域表达式:
图4所示为式(4)的图形化表达,所示为频带[mB,(m+1)B]的Up-Chirp经过两条de-Chirp支路的结果,mB为该频带Chirp-BOK的判决频点,不能去除Chirp信号的支路会使信号频谱拓展,从而减小该支路对判决的干扰。
为了进一步提高通信性能,降低误码率,在判决频点对线性调频信号进行衰减,即在线性调频信号的两端及中间进行衰减,以减小判决频点处相对支路造成的干扰。定义衰减系数h为归一化衰减系数,根据衰减系数的定义,Chirp信号的最小幅度为:
图5所示为使用双汉宁窗对判决频点进行衰减的Chirp信号示意图,通过加窗衰减Chirp信号能够有效降低相对支路造成的干扰,从而有效降低通信误码率,提高通信的可靠性。
通过观察式(2)可以发现,多频带Chirp-BOK具有和OFDM信号相似的定义,将式(2)中的调频项提出,多频带Chirp-BOK信号可写为:
式(6)为使用IFFT生成多频带Chirp-BOK信号的表达式,式(2)为直接合成多频带Chirp-BOK信号的表达式。对比式(2)和式(6)可以发现,式(6)将调频项作为公共项,在一个子脉冲内只需要分别计算一次升/降调频项,然后再与求和项相乘即可,而式(2)则需要计算M次调频项。式(6)中的求和项与IFFT具有相似的表达式,因此可以参考OFDM使用IFFT生成多频带Chirp-BOK信号。FFT与IFFT已有诸多快速算法,能够极大减少计算量,降低复杂度,已广泛应用于OFDM系统。
图6所示为使用IFFT实现多频带Chirp-BOK调制的发射端原理框图,与传统OFDM使用星座调制不同,多频带Chirp-BOK调制的通信数据为“0”和“1”,在Up-Chirp支路中“1”表示激活该支路子载波,“0”表示不激活该支路子载波,而Down-Chirp支路则使用相反数据激活子载波,完成Up-Chirp和Down-Chirp后再相加完成多频带Chirp-BOK调制。
通过分析,生成多频带Chirp-BOK信号可以使用IFFT减小复杂度,因此接收端使用FFT实现快速解调,相比使用M路匹配滤波器解调,该方法只需要两路解调支路,减小了接收端复杂度。解调时,接收端首先将接收信号通过两条去Chirp支路实现去Up-Chirp和去Down-Chirp,然后再通过FFT完成解调,两路信号通过对比进行判决,完成多频带Chirp-BOK的信息解调。
图7所示为使用FFT解调多频带Chirp-BOK信号的原理图。与传统使用滤波器组实现多频带Chirp-BOK解调相比,使用FFT解调能够有效简化通信接收端结构,降低系统复杂度。
对通信接收端而言,一体化波形的调制数据是未知的;而对一体化雷达接收端而言,发射的一体化波形是完美已知的,因此雷达接收端可以根据实时的发射波形对接收到的回波进行脉冲压缩,进而实现对目标信息的提取。
在本文波形框架下,雷达接收端需要针对每个脉冲进行自适应匹配滤波,而数字匹配滤波器与信号采样长度相同,过长的信号会导致匹配滤波器长度增加,从而导致脉冲压缩处理时间增大。为了提高效率,利用部分匹配滤波的方法简化结构,将每组多频带Chirp-BOK作为一个子脉冲,多组多频带Chirp-BOK作为一个脉冲,其结构与部分匹配滤波器相似,处理增益与脉冲积累相同,图8所示为脉冲积累原理框图。
在雷达接收端,脉冲积累的个数越多,其目标检测概率就越优,在使用N个子脉冲实现相参积累的情况下,积累后SNR可以提升N倍,从而能够在更低的信噪比下对目标进行检测。
本文使用加性高斯白噪声(Additive White Gaussian Noise, AWGN)信道对多频带Chirp-BOK误码率进行仿真,令多频带Chirp-BOK信号总带宽为128 MHz,采样率为256 MHz,每个子脉冲时间宽度设置为1 μs,信号的调制解调均按照第2节中介绍的方式进行仿真。
首先对子带划分情况进行研究,多频带Chirp-BOK信号总带宽为128 MHz,按照每个子带频谱不重叠进行划分,将子带带宽和子带个数分为四种组合:32 MHz-4、16 MHz-8、8 MHz-16和4 MHz-32,并使用子带个数M表示上述四种组合,h表示加窗衰减系数,h为0时表示没有对线性调频信号衰减,其他情况按照衰减系数h的定义进行衰减。图9所示为不同子带划分情况和衰减系数下的误码率,当h为0时表示不对线性调频信号加窗。对比不同子带划分情况,由于子带个数的增加及子带带宽的减少,子脉冲内携带的通信数据也随之增加,从而导致每比特信号能量减小,且子带带宽的减少使子频带信号间的自干扰增大,因此误码率随着子带个数的增加明显上升。
为了减小多频带Chirp-BOK通信接收端两条支路解调的自干扰,设计了基于双窗函数的误码率优化方法,在判决频点处对线性调频信号进行衰减。如图9所示,对不同Mh参数进行仿真,当子带带宽大于加窗函数带宽(约6.1 MHz)时,该方法能够有效降低通信误码率,以子带数16带宽8 MHz为例,在SNR为4 dB时,h=0.6比h=0.4误码率下降一个数量级;当子带带宽小于加窗函数带宽时,时域加窗会导致信号频域发生混叠,从而导致误码率上升,因此子带带宽不能小于窗函数带宽,M=32时子带带宽为4 MHz,加窗后误码率相较不加窗误码率更高。
多频带Chirp-BOK信号是一种频分复用信号,与OFDM信号类似,同样存在信号功率峰值均值比(Peak-to-Average Ratio,PAPR)高的问题,PAPR的定义为:
式中,x(t)为信号的时域波形。图10展示了不同子带数下的多频带Chirp-BOK信号功率峰值均值比,随着子带个数的增加,多频带Chirp-BOK信号PAPR明显增大,这是由于不同子频带Chirp-BOK信号相加时,在某些时刻它们的相位比较接近或相同,则合成信号在这些时刻会形成较高的瞬时峰值,从而导致信号PAPR较大,因此当子带数增加时信号的PAPR也会增大。
过高的PAPR会降低射频功率放大器的效率,目前已有诸多关于OFDM抑制PAPR的研究。相比OFDM的表达式,多频带Chirp-BOK主要增加了线性调频乘积项,而未加窗的线性调频信号是恒模的,并不会造成PAPR进一步恶化。因此,对OFDM有效的PAPR抑制方法同样对多频带Chirp-BOK信号有效,且多频带Chirp-BOK通信接收端通过检测升/降频信号解调,可以调整子频带内的Chirp信号相位抑制PAPR,而不必在接收端作其他处理。除此之外还可以通过预编码、剪裁等方法进一步抑制PAPR。在实际应用中,还需要考虑通信速率、射频前端功放、探测/通信距离等因素。增加子带数能够提高通信速率,但会使PAPR增大从而限制射频前端功放效率,进而导致探测/通信距离受限。
模糊函数(Ambiguity Function, AF)能够反映信号的时延-多普勒特性,是设计和评价雷达通信一体化信号的重要工具[5],模糊函数的定义为:
式中,τ表示时延,fD表示多普勒频移,x(t)为信号时域波形,(•)*表示共轭。将式(3)中的多频带Chirp-BOK信号s(t)代入到模糊函数的定义中即可得到其模糊函数的数学表达式。由于多频带Chirp-BOK信号有Up-Chirp和Down-Chirp两种不同方向的线性调频信号,所以分析其模糊函数时可以分为Up/Down-Chirp自模糊函数和Up-Chirp与Down-Chirp的互模糊函数,则多频带Chirp-BOK信号的模糊函数为:
其中SupSdown分别为多频带Chirp-BOK信号中的Up-Chirp成分和Down-Chirp成分。其中,Up-Chirp成分的自模糊函数为:
经过推导,Up-Chirp的自模糊函数可化简为:

通过分析,Up-Chirp组的自模糊函数受子带带宽B、子脉冲时宽T、调频斜率μ、通信数据am,n以及子频带个数M和子脉冲个数N的影响。Down-Chirp组的自模糊函数与Up-Chirp组的自模糊函数相似,但由于其调频方向相反,因此其模糊函数也与Up-Chirp组的方向相反,而互模糊函数由于Up-Chirp和Down-Chirp的低互相关性较小,不影响其整体形状,因此可以近似忽略。
图11~图13分别展示了:Chirp信号、FDM-BPSK信号、FDM-Chirp-BPSK信号和多频带Chirp-BOK信号的模糊函数。其中Chirp信号带宽64 MHz,时宽8 μs;FDM-BPSK信号、FDM-Chirp-BPSK和多频带Chirp-BOK信号子载波间隔(子带带宽)8 MHz,符号(子脉冲)时宽1 μs,共8个符号(子脉冲),Chirp信号带宽8 MHz,数据使用自相关性能较差的01交替序列。
图11所示为上述4种信号的模糊函数,其中Chirp信号为“斜刀刃”型,而经Chirp调制的信号模糊函数会向时延-多普勒频移斜线方向旋转,如子图(b)和子图(c)所示,多频带Chirp-BOK的模糊函数可以近似为Up/Down-Chirp两组线性调频信号自模糊函数的叠加。
图12为四种信号的模糊函数零多普勒切面,横轴为时延,对应探测的距离向。如图12(a)所示,Chirp信号具有良好的距离分辨力,而FDM-BPSK具有较多旁瓣,通过Chirp调制FDM-Chirp-BPSK有效抑制了子脉冲时宽(1 μs)内的旁瓣,多频带Chirp-BOK的旁瓣相比FDM-BPSK较优,但差于FDM-Chirp-BPSK。
图13为四种信号的模糊函数零时延切面,横轴为多普勒频移,对应探测的速度向,FDM-BPSK和FDM-Chirp-BPSK的零时延切面相同,因此具有相同的速度分辨率;而多频带Chirp-BOK信号存在Up/Down-Chirp两种信号,因此具有较多旁瓣,速度分辨率稍差。
通过对上述四种信号的模糊函数仿真发现,多子脉冲的多频带Chirp-BOK信号零多普勒切面和零时延切面具有较多旁瓣。因此在雷达接收端进行处理时,需要将每个子脉冲进行单独处理并进行脉冲积累,将多普勒频移范围设置为与子带带宽相同,则四种波形单子脉冲模糊函数的零多普勒切面如图14所示,其中Chirp信号旁瓣最优,而FDM-BPSK信号旁瓣较高,多频带Chirp-BOK与FDM-Chirp-BPSK信号旁瓣相差不大。
图15所示为四种波形单子脉冲模糊函数的零时延切面,Chirp信号旁瓣最小,FDM-BPSK和FDM-Chirp-BPSK具有相同的零时延切面,这说明两种信号具有相同的速度分辨力,旁瓣在±B时变高,这是由于其相邻子载波频率间隔为B;相比之下多频带Chirp-BOK信号的主瓣更窄,但旁瓣稍高,速度分辨力较FDM-BPSK和FDM-Chirp-BPSK稍差。
为了提高雷达检测能力并降低复杂度,对子脉冲进行脉冲积累,图16所示为不同子脉冲数积累下的检测概率曲线,其中检测概率为正确检测到目标位置的概率,脉冲积累能够带来信噪比增益,积累数翻一倍所需信噪比降低3 dB。
当通信双方存在相对运动时会产生多普勒频移,与使用传统调制方法如调相、调频等不同,多频带Chirp-BOK通过检测子带内的Chirp信号是否是升/降频信号来判决通信码元数据,从而对多普勒频偏不敏感。以8子带、16 MHz的多频带Chirp-BOK信号为例进行多普勒性能仿真,受采样率的限制,多普勒频移设为子带带宽B的1/16、1/8、1/4和1/2,其中fD表示子带带宽B的归一化多普勒频移。
假设通信接收端对通信时延完美已知,即多频带Chirp-BOK不存在时间上的能量损失,则多普勒频移经过去线性调频(de-Chirp)后只存在频率上的偏移。图17所示为多频带Chirp-BOK信号经两条解调支路后的输出,当存在多普勒频偏时,判决频点根据多普勒频偏相应偏移,通信双方能容忍的多普勒频偏范围为(-B/2,B/2),假设无频偏时某子带的判决频点为f0,则该子带的最大判决频点搜索范围为(f0-B/2,f0+B/2)。
当雷达与探测目标存在相对运动时,雷达回波同样会存在多普勒频偏,则回波信号经脉冲压缩后峰值存在幅度损失和时间偏移:以无频偏回波信号脉冲压缩峰值幅度做归一化,有频偏的回波信号经脉冲压缩后峰值幅度会变为(1-|fD|)2,升频信号主瓣位置变为-T·fD,降频信号主瓣位置变为T·fD,其中T表示Chirp信号的时间宽度。
为了将两种调频信号脉压结果综合,使用两路匹配滤波器(对应Up/Down-Chirp成分)对多频带Chirp-BOK信号做脉冲压缩,并将Down-Chirp脉压结果在时域反转后与Up-Chirp脉压结果相加。如图18所示为多频带Chirp-BOK在归一化频偏下的脉压输出,结果显示该信号具有与Chirp信号相似的抗频偏能力,具有良好的多普勒性能。
多频带Chirp-BOK信号在多个子带内使用正负调频斜率的Chirp信号携带通信信息,从而实现雷达通信一体化,该波形具有良好的通信与雷达性能。设计的系统架构与OFDM系统具有良好的兼容性,通过双窗函数衰减判决频点能够进一步降低通信误码率,与直接使用数字调制方法将通信信息嵌入Chirp信号相比,多频带Chirp-BOK保留了Chirp信号线性调频特性,具有良好的多普勒容忍性,但其不同子脉冲间的互相关性能较差,适合对单子脉冲进行处理然后进行脉冲积累。
由于雷达通信一体化信号兼具探测与通信功能,其不同脉冲内调制的通信信息不同,因而雷达接收需要根据发射信号自适应匹配滤波,信号处理变得更加复杂。多频带Chirp-BOK可用于多发多收合成孔径雷达和动目标显示雷达等设备,具有一定的现实意义。
