To meet the requirements for miniaturization, broadbandization, integration, and Electro Magnetic Compatibility(EMC) in radar and communication systems,the ceramic nesting technology was used to design and fabricate a low-loss X-band Surface Mount Technology (SMT) microstrip circulator based on Mg ferrite materials. Through three-dimensional full electromagnetic simulation, a microstrip gyro-magnetic junction with comb structure was designed to achieve device miniaturization and broadbandization. To realize SMT packaging, a ceramic-filled metallized via structure was optimally designed using HFSS, and the St12 metal with high permeability was used as a shielding cover to ensure that the circulator can work independently without interference from other components in the system, achieving electromagnetic shielding and magnetic conduction. Finally, the device was fabricated and tested according to the optimal design results. The test results demonstrated that the designed SMT circulator had a full package size of 6 mm×6 mm×4 mm, with a bandwidth of 60%, Loss<0.8 dB, Isolation>18 dB, and VSWR<1.30. The resulting circulator shows no electromagnetic interference with the outside world, and is suitable for large-scale automatic mounting.

为了满足雷达及通信系统小型化、宽带化、集成化、电磁兼容等需求,本文运用陶瓷嵌套工艺设计并制作了基于Mg系铁氧体材料的低损耗X波段的表贴式微带环行器。通过三维全电磁仿真(HFSS),设计了“鱼翅形”微带旋磁结,实现了器件的小型化与宽带化。为实现表贴(SMT)封装,通过HFSS优化设计了陶瓷填充的金属化过孔结构,并采用高磁导率铁St12金属做屏蔽罩,确保环行器独立工作,与系统中其他元件互不干扰,同时实现电磁屏蔽和磁传导。最后根据优化设计结果进行器件制作和测试,测试结果表明:本文设计的SMT型环行器全封装尺寸达6 mm×6 mm×4 mm,在7 GHz~13 GHz(带宽达到60%)频段范围内,插损<0.8 dB,隔离度>18 dB,驻波比<1.30,性能良好,且适合大规模自动化贴装。

To meet the requirements for miniaturization, broadbandization, integration, and Electro Magnetic Compatibility(EMC) in radar and communication systems,the ceramic nesting technology was used to design and fabricate a low-loss X-band Surface Mount Technology (SMT) microstrip circulator based on Mg ferrite materials. Through three-dimensional full electromagnetic simulation, a microstrip gyro-magnetic junction with comb structure was designed to achieve device miniaturization and broadbandization. To realize SMT packaging, a ceramic-filled metallized via structure was optimally designed using HFSS, and the St12 metal with high permeability was used as a shielding cover to ensure that the circulator can work independently without interference from other components in the system, achieving electromagnetic shielding and magnetic conduction. Finally, the device was fabricated and tested according to the optimal design results. The test results demonstrated that the designed SMT circulator had a full package size of 6 mm×6 mm×4 mm, with a bandwidth of 60%, Loss<0.8 dB, Isolation>18 dB, and VSWR<1.30. The resulting circulator shows no electromagnetic interference with the outside world, and is suitable for large-scale automatic mounting.

环行器是一种基于铁氧体材料的非互易性微波/射频无源器件。其核心功能是强制电磁波信号按固定顺序单向环行通过其端口(通常是三端口或四端口)。典型工作方式是:从端口1输入的信号几乎无损耗地传输到端口2,同时端口2输入的信号传输到端口3,而端口3输入的信号则传输回端口1(三端口情况),而反向传输则被极大抑制(隔离)。
在通信领域,环行器广泛应用于基站建设,特别是5G基站。由于5G通信需要更高的网络容量和更快的传输速度,大规模天线(Massive MIMO)技术被广泛应用,这导致每个基站所需的天线通道数大幅增加。环行器作为核心器件,能够有效隔离发射信号和接收信号,确保信号传输的质量和稳定性。此外,随着5G基站建设密度的提升,环行器的需求量也随之增加,进一步推动了其在通信领域的应用。
在雷达系统中,环行器同样发挥着不可替代的作用。雷达系统需要高精度和高可靠性的信号传输和接收,环行器能够确保发射信号不向接收端泄漏,同时防止因发射天线出现开路或短路引起的系统失配和损坏。特别是在连续波(CW)雷达和其他非脉冲雷达方案中,环行器的重要性凸显,它能够防止灵敏度降低以及可能损坏雷达接收器的情况。此外,环行器还可以作为收发开关,快速切换天线信号的收发状态,满足雷达扫描等高灵敏度场合的需求[1]
业界工程化应用的微带环行器多采用全铁氧体基片模式,如JQL公司的微带环行器JCS9000T1 0K0G0在X波段带宽为9~10 GHz(相对带宽根据式(1)计算为10%),为裸露结构无屏蔽,尺寸为7 mm×6.9 mm×4 mm,接口为微带形式,需进行金丝键合,这类全铁氧体基微带环行器的应用需要特定的密闭环境,也不利于大规模自动化贴装生产,鉴于军民领域的小型化、宽带化、集成化(大规模贴装)、电磁兼容等需求[2],本文设计并制作了一种小型化、低损耗、自带电磁屏蔽且便于系统大规模集成的X波段SMT型微带环行器,结构如图1所示。
随着雷达技术的不断进步,宽带雷达系统具有了更高的探测精度和更强的抗干扰能力,宽带雷达技术逐渐成为主流。为了满足宽带雷达系统的需求,宽带环行器的研发和应用也得到了快速发展,传统的全铁氧体微带环行器的相对带宽根据式(1)计算为BW为40%左右,而陶瓷嵌套铁氧体没有磁场不饱和区,因此具有更大的带宽和更好的高低温性能。
其中,BW为相对带宽,f1为起始频率,f2为终止频率。
环行器的散射矩阵[3]可表示为:
其中,α为回波损耗,β为隔离度,γ为插入损耗,经典的Wu和Rosenbaum[2]的理论认为宽带环行器的基本理论为“连续跟踪机制”,改进了理论设计公式[2-5],该公式基于Bosma[7]的两个环行条件。
上式中,PMN都是无穷级数,n为bessel函数的介数。其中,ψ为耦合角,如图2所示,而阻抗比和铁氧体半径R也可以表示为
故宽带环行器的主要工作是寻求合适的铁氧体εf、外围陶瓷εd、耦合角ψ,来满足宽带环行器的两个条件(9)和(10)[4-7]
通过以上理论公式,得到如下材料参数:
①铁氧体:Mn-Mg系4πMs=2 500 GS(P=0.7),ΔH<100 Oe
②介电常数:εf=12.7,介质电损耗:tanδ =2×10-4
③陶瓷:εd=22,tanδ = 1.3×10-4ψ=5°,
④环行器尺寸优化初值:基板厚度H=0.4 mm,内导体半径R=2 mm(微带修正)。
为了拓宽带宽,传统的结环行器常需通过增加多级四分之一波长阻抗变换段以达成阻抗匹配,但这会导致器件尺寸偏大[8]。根据公式(9),旋磁结的尺寸在很大程度上由所选的铁氧体材料决定,因此,要减小整体器件的尺寸,关键在于优化阻抗匹配[9-11]。结内加抗技术便是一种有效地减小阻抗匹配段尺寸的方法。例如,双Y结便运用了大Y小Y的结内加抗技术,这种技术相当于增加了环行结的阻抗(一般传统环行器结阻抗为小阻抗),使之更容易匹配到50 Ω,从而减小了器件的尺寸。然而,虽然双Y结的结内加抗技术有助于减小尺寸,但同时也对带宽性能产生了一定的影响。
在双Y结基础之上,本文利用三维电磁仿真软件设计了一种“鱼刺形”旋磁结。该设计通过调整结内阻抗,增加结阻抗的实部,减小虚部,以期望在减小器件尺寸的同时,也能有效提升带宽性能[12-14] 。该设计摒弃了传统全铁氧体基片的设计模式,采用外围高介电陶瓷嵌套来减小匹配电路的面积,结构如图3所示。
为了实现可规模化贴装的SMT(表面贴装技术)结构,需要将铁氧体上的微带端口通过过孔连接到PCB板微带上。铁氧体上的微带采用薄膜工艺制作,为了确保工艺的兼容性,特别设计了一种金属化过孔,这种过孔NEI部以空气填充,如图4所示。这种设计有助于微带端口信号能量得以顺畅地从铁氧体被引入到PCB板的微带上,同时满足规模化贴装的需求。
为了避免不饱和磁化带来的低场损耗,本次设计采用陶瓷嵌套铁氧体方案,设计上采用了εd=22的氧化铝陶瓷作为外围基板,工艺采用无机胶作为介质间粘合剂,为了提高介质陶瓷膨胀系数使之与铁氧体匹配,使用高膨胀系数MgO作为无机胶填料,取得了良好的效果,如图5
为了确保该器件的独立性,避免其与载板上相邻器件之间的相互干扰,必须对该器件进行电磁屏蔽。虽然常规金属罩可以有效实现电屏蔽,但铁氧体环行器需要依赖永磁体以提供恒定的磁场激励,因此还需要磁屏蔽功能。这就要求金属罩材料不仅应具备出色的电导率,同时还要有良好的磁导率。综合考虑材料的性能与可加工性,本文选择了St12金属铁来制作电磁屏蔽罩。
通过三维电磁软件建模[15-17],并将相关铁氧体参数代入,膜层结构采用常规Cu-Au结构,如图6所示。
优化相关尺寸计算后单结环行器的S参数曲线如图7所示,从中可以看出带宽可达60%以上,由仿真结果可知结内加抗电路结构可以有效缩小尺寸,其原理在于通过结内梳妆结构加大了结阻抗,使其更容易与外部电路进行匹配。
信号过孔是为了简化装配流程、提高效率并满足大面积贴装的需求,同时不降低环行器的性能。本文对金属化过孔的尺寸进行了设计。与一般的微带环行器不同,本文的信号过孔设计避免了在载板上挖槽的需求,也无需采用专业的键合设备来连接端口与组件,且比常规的金丝键合可靠性更高。本文所设计的金属化过孔结构和PCB如图8图9所示,这种设计在保持环行器性能的同时,还可优化其装配过程,使其更符合现代化生产的要求[18]
在进行环行器金属化过孔设计时,面临一个挑战:希望过孔尽可能小以优化性能,然而过小的金属化过孔会增加孔金属化的难度;另外,如果孔径过大,其自身的寄生电容也会随之增大,这将对带宽产生不利影响。因此,需要在过孔尺寸、金属化难度、寄生电容三者之间找到一个平衡点[19-21]
通过优化设计,本次设计的过孔直径D1为0.2 mm,底部焊盘的面积D2为0.48 mm2。金属化地D3为1.4 mm,反射系数性能如图10所示,性能良好,在4~16 GHz的频段内达到了22 dB的回波损耗,在环行器工作的7~13 GHz频段更达到了25 dB的回波损耗,这给环行器的级联提供了良好基础。
对以上环行器和金属化过孔进行合并处理,并加装了磁屏蔽盖,如图11所示,由于加装了屏蔽罩,压缩了电场空间,易产生谐振。可以通过改变端口开口尺寸,压缩腔体高度尺寸等手段,将谐振峰移至工作频段外。而磁场的压缩会使磁化场不均匀,为此要调整永磁体的尺寸,使铁氧体均匀饱和磁化[22],通过优化,整体仿真性能达到预期,带宽达到了7~14 GHz,频带范围内回波损耗能在15 dB左右,如图12所示。
根据上述仿真优化的结果,进行器件的实际制作。在制作过程中,基片采用陶瓷嵌套形式,过孔的制作采用激光打孔工艺,而微带电路则使用典型的薄膜工艺来完成,PCB采用双面覆铜板RA300进行加工,在完成所有制作步骤并加装磁屏蔽罩之后,整个器件的最终尺寸达到了6 mm×6 mm×4 mm,外形如图13所示,而现有的全铁氧体基片X波段微带环行器尺寸一般为10 mm×10 mm左右,相对带宽BW根据式(1)计算为20%~40%,通过高介电常数陶瓷加载的方式,可以有效缩小尺寸,并能使相对带宽BW扩展至60%。
电子系统不断追求高集成度、高性能和低成本,射频和微波接口从昂贵的同轴接口逐渐转向基于印刷电路板的表面贴装技术(SMT)。然而,目前典型的射频或微波器件测试设备,即矢量网络分析仪(VNA)(如图14所示),其测试端口仍然使用标准的50欧姆同轴接口。为了解决同轴接口与微带线之间的连接问题,需要使用测试夹具来实现同轴与非同轴传输线之间的连接。但值得注意的是,引入测试夹具后,其本身的特征参数也会被纳入测试结果中[23]
本文通过TRL的校准方式嵌入测试夹具的特征参数,对实物进行测试,得到器件准确的S参数[24,25]。测试夹具实物如图15所示。
S参数曲线如图16所示。
将以上实测数据与业界同类器件的进行了对比,如表1所示。
结果显示:本次设计的环行器在X频段范围(7 GHz~13 GHz)内表现出色,具体指标如下:尺寸为6 mm×6 mm×4 mm,插入损耗低于0.5 dB,隔离度超过19 dB,驻波比小于1.25,相对带宽达到了60%。这些性能数据表明环行器性能良好,且相比同类产品,本设计器件尺寸缩小了15%,相对带宽BW较同类环行器增加了50%,损耗降低了0.1 dB,并增加了屏蔽功能和表面贴装功能。然而,目前所设计器件的一致性还不太好,主要原因在于基片加工公差控制及测试压测位置控制不够理想。
后续将改进制备工艺和测试方法,进一步提升一致性。
本文阐述了X波段低损耗SMT宽带微带环行器的设计方法,并基于所设计的环行器结构,进行了器件制作和测试。结果表明:此SMT微带环行器在X波段内具有良好的环行性能,插损明显低于Ni-Zn系器件,并实现了良好的电磁屏蔽,适合大批量贴装要求,可以推广到更多频段进行应用。
