To optimize the low-drag aerodynamic configurations for new energy vehicles, flow control drag reduction methods are adopted into the low-drag design of new energy vehicles. An experimental investigation is conducted on the drag reduction effect of V-shaped streamwise grooves. Tests are performed in a low-speed recirculating wind tunnel using a DrivAer sedan model with both smooth and V-groove surfaces. Measurements include drag force, wake turbulence intensity, and vortex structures. The results show that within the Reynolds number (Re) range of 6×10⁵ to 3×10⁶, the drag coefficient decreases with increasing Re, and the V-groove surface exhibits a significant drag reduction effect. At Re=3×10⁶, the drag coefficient decreases by 0.003. The underlying mechanism is attributed to reduced wake turbulence intensity and smaller vortex scales, which aligns with turbulent drag reduction theory. These findings confirm the engineering applicability of V-shaped streamwise grooves and provide a new perspective for the low-drag aerodynamic design of new energy vehicles.
