To enhance the crash safety of occupants in the zero-gravity posture, a zero-gravity seat design with a rapid return mechanism is proposed based on the analysis of application scenarios and the current techinal status of zero-gravity seats. The proposed scheme employs rapidreturn structures for the seat back and cushion, allowing the seat to promptly restore to appropriate backrest and cushion angles. In this configuration, the conventional occupant restraint system can operate as intended. Results from virtual simulations and frontal crash tests using Thor-AV dummies demonstrate that the occupant injury criteria for the neck, back, and abdomen are reduced to safe range, thereby effectively improving the safety performance of zero-gravity seats.
