A new Al-5C intermediate alloy is prepared by in-situ reaction sintering method. Optical Microscope (OM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) are used to study the effect of the preparation process on the microstructure of Al-5C intermediate alloy and the grain refinement of Mg-Al alloy. The results show that the in-situ reaction sintering method improves the wettability of Al and C, and the reaction degree of Al-C is related to milling time, sintering temperature, sintering time and pressing method. Prolongation of milling time, increase of sintering temperature or appropriate extension of sintering time can promote the Al-C reaction, resulting in the formation of fine Al4C3 particles. Al-5C intermediate alloy can effectively refine the microstructure of Mg-3Al alloy, and the best grain refinement effect is obtained when the addition amount (mass fraction) is 2%.

采用原位反应烧结法制备了新型Al-5C中间合金,利用光学显微镜(OM)、X射线衍射(XRD)和扫描电子显微镜(SEM)等研究了制备工艺对Al-5C中间合金组织以及该中间合金对Mg-Al合金晶粒细化的影响。结果表明,原位反应烧结法改善了Al与C的润湿性,Al-C的反应程度与球磨时间、烧结温度、烧结时间和压块方式有关;延长球磨时间、提高烧结温度或适当延长烧结时间均能促进Al-C反应,生成细小的Al4C3颗粒;Al-5C中间合金能有效地细化Mg-3Al合金的组织,添加量(质量分数)为2%时晶粒细化效果最佳。

采用原位反应烧结法制备了新型Al-5C中间合金,利用光学显微镜(OM)、X射线衍射(XRD)和扫描电子显微镜(SEM)等研究了制备工艺对Al-5C中间合金组织以及该中间合金对Mg-Al合金晶粒细化的影响。结果表明,原位反应烧结法改善了Al与C的润湿性,Al-C的反应程度与球磨时间、烧结温度、烧结时间和压块方式有关;延长球磨时间、提高烧结温度或适当延长烧结时间均能促进Al-C反应,生成细小的Al4C3颗粒;Al-5C中间合金能有效地细化Mg-3Al合金的组织,添加量(质量分数)为2%时晶粒细化效果最佳。

A new Al-5C intermediate alloy is prepared by in-situ reaction sintering method. Optical Microscope (OM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) are used to study the effect of the preparation process on the microstructure of Al-5C intermediate alloy and the grain refinement of Mg-Al alloy. The results show that the in-situ reaction sintering method improves the wettability of Al and C, and the reaction degree of Al-C is related to milling time, sintering temperature, sintering time and pressing method. Prolongation of milling time, increase of sintering temperature or appropriate extension of sintering time can promote the Al-C reaction, resulting in the formation of fine Al4C3 particles. Al-5C intermediate alloy can effectively refine the microstructure of Mg-3Al alloy, and the best grain refinement effect is obtained when the addition amount (mass fraction) is 2%.

镁合金具有密度小,比强度、比刚度高,电磁屏蔽性、减振性能及切削加工性能好的优点,被广泛应用于汽车、电子、航空、航天等领域[1-2]。但镁合金的滑移系少、塑性差、变形加工困难。此外,由于Mg-Al系的凝固温度范围宽,铸件易产生缩松、缩孔、热裂等缺陷,而通过晶粒细化可有效提高金属材料的强度和塑性,减少铸造缺陷[3]
目前,在Mg-Al系合金铸造过程中,晶粒细化的主要方法是添加C(碳)质细化剂[4-6],实质是向Mg-Al系合金熔体中加入含有C元素的物质,利用C与Al反应生成的Al4C3颗粒来细化晶粒,较为常用的C质细化剂有CCl4、C2Cl6、MgCO3[7-9]。C变质处理法具有熔体处理温度低、细化效果保持时间长的优点,但加入的CCl4、C2Cl6、MgCO3等会产生有害气体污染环境且细化效果一般,而直接加入单质C或Al4C3粉末又与Mg-Al熔体不润湿[10-11],因此,为提高Mg-Al系合金的综合性能,亟需制备一种稳定、高效且环境友好的C质细化剂。
本文针对传统C质细化剂存在的问题,采用原位反应烧结法制备新型的Al-5C中间合金,研究球磨工艺、烧结温度、烧结时间以及压块方式对Al-C反应程度和生成物Al4C3粉末尺寸的影响,并研究了该中间合金对Mg-3Al镁合金组织细化行为的影响。
Al-5C中间合金的制备是将Al粉和C粉球磨后压制成直径为35 mm的圆块,然后利用DT003真空高温热压炉在真空状态下烧结,制备工艺参数如表1所示。当C含量较高时,生成的Al4C3含量高,尺寸较大,导致中间合金加入到Mg熔体中不易分散开,因此,本文选择制备C含量较低的Al-5C中间合金,其中Al4C3的理论含量(质量分数)为20%。制备的试样经打磨、抛光,使用Buswell试剂腐蚀后观察组织,整个过程中要避免接触到水。
Mg-3Al合金在5 kW井式坩埚电阻炉中熔制,原材料为Mg锭(纯度>99.9%)和Al锭(纯度>99.9%),采用MgO坩埚熔炼,为防止镁氧化燃烧,添加RJ-2熔剂。Mg锭熔化后,当温度达到730 ℃时加入Al锭,保温10 min后升温至760 ℃,加入Al-5C中间合金,保温约30 min后浇注到金属型模具中。试样经研磨、抛光后用苦味酸-乙酸溶液腐蚀。
分别采用OM、SEM和XRD对Al-C预制块的反应程度、生成的Al4C3形貌以及Mg-3Al合金的组织进行分析。
向Mg-Al熔体中加入的C2Cl6、CCl4、CaC2、单质C等与Mg-Al合金中的铝元素在一定条件下会发生如下反应[12-13]
Al(l) + C(s) → Al4C3(s)。
该反应能否发生取决于反应的吉布斯自由能,通过计算反应体系中可能发生反应的吉布斯自由能变化获得化学反应的趋势,若吉布斯自由能为负值,则反应可以发生。在一定温度范围内,吉布斯自由能值越小,表明向指定方向进行的可能性越大,若吉布斯自由能值大于0,则表明反应无法发生。
物质吉布斯自由能函数法通常利用标准反应热效应经典计算方法导出,而标准反应热效应计算化学平衡通常使用Gibbs Helmholtz方程:

式(2)中的积分常数为:

$\Delta {H}_{298}^{\theta }$为常温下标准反应热效应,$\Delta {G}_{298}^{\theta }$为常温下反应的标准吉布斯自由能,而Ai查表可得,通过以上各式即可求得Al-C二元体系的吉布斯自由能方程式。
在Al-C二元体系中,当温度为933 K时,Al由固相变为液相,当温度为1 100 K时,C发生相变,所以自由能方程的计算变得尤为复杂,根据Al、C和A14C3不同状态下的热力学数据,可将该体系中的吉布斯自由能计算分为3个阶段,即在298~933 K、933~1 100 K、1 100 ~1 800 K 3个温度范围内分别查出各物质的Ai[14-15],并计算得出Al-C二元体系各温度范围内的吉布斯自由能表达式,如表2所示。
图2为未球磨、烧结温度为800 ℃、冷压的条件下,不同烧结时间对Al-5C中间合金显微组织的影响。对比图2a图2b可知:预制块在800 ℃保温1 h后,基本没有发生反应,组织由Al基体和C单质组成;将反应时间延长至2 h后,发现有Al4C3相生成,但Al4C3的尺寸稍大,约为8 μm。
图3为未球磨、烧结时间为1 h、冷压的条件下,不同烧结温度对Al-5C中间合金显微组织的影响。由图3可知:当烧结温度为800 ℃时,反应基本没有发生,C元素仍以单质形式存在;当烧结温度提高至1 000 ℃时,在Al与C界面的周围以及Al基体内部出现了一些小块状的Al4C3相,同时单质C减少。说明提高反应烧结温度可以促进Al-C反应的发生。
图4为烧结温度为1 000 ℃、烧结时间为1 h、冷压的条件下,不同球磨时间对Al-5C中间合金组织的影响。由图4可知,随着球磨时间的增加,Al-C的反应程度加剧,即反应生成的颗粒状Al4C3相的数量逐渐增加,而参与反应的黑色不规则单质C的数量明显减少。除了反应程度加剧外,反应生成物Al4C3颗粒的尺寸也逐渐减小。球磨使Al粉和C粉变细,在压块过程中接触更紧密,单个Al和C的接触面积变小使反应更充分,生成的Al4C3颗粒更细小,但图4e图4f中仍能观察到未反应的C元素,即反应还不够充分。
图5为球磨时间为10 h、烧结温度为1 000 ℃、烧结时间为1 h的条件下,不同压块方式对Al-5C中间合金组织的影响。由图5a可知:冷压时Al-C反应不完全,仍存在单质C,如图中箭头所示;热压时,反应较充分,生成的Al4C3颗粒分布均匀。
图6为球磨时间为10 h、烧结温度为1 000 ℃、热压的条件下,不同烧结时间对Al-5C中间合金组织的影响。由图6可知,烧结时间为1 h,生成的Al4C3颗粒尺寸小,约为2~5 μm;烧结时间延长至2 h后,出现了较多20~50 μm的大尺寸Al4C3颗粒,说明烧结时间对反应产物Al4C3颗粒的尺寸影响很大。
图6a试样的XRD分析结果如图7所示,该中间合金主要由基体Al和Al4C3颗粒相组成,另外还有少量的单质C,虽然在球磨10 h、烧结温度为1 000 ℃时,热压的预制块中仍存在少量未反应的C,但图6a中基本看不到残留的C,说明Al-C反应较为充分。
综上所述,增加球磨时间、提高烧结温度、提高预制块的致密度能够使反应更充分。因此,通过球磨、热压后再真空烧结的方法可制备出Al4C3颗粒尺寸较小、反应比较完全的Al-5C中间合金。
图8为添加不同含量Al-5C中间合金的Mg-3Al合金宏观金相照片。当Al-5C中间合金的添加量(质量分数)为0.5%(图8b)时,Mg-3Al合金未出现明显的细化现象;当Al-5C中间合金的添加量(质量分数)提高至1%(图8c)时,与基体合金相比,Mg-3Al合金的晶粒尺寸显著细化,当Al-5C中间合金的添加量(质量分数)提高至2%(图8d)时,合金的晶粒尺寸继续减小;当Al-5C中间合金的添加量(质量分数)达到3%(图8e)时,合金的晶粒尺寸变大,推测原因为添加的异质形核颗粒过多,导致形核颗粒分布不均,出现团聚而沉降至金属液底部。添加不同含量Al-5C中间合金后,Mg-3Al合金晶粒尺寸的变化如图9所示。
a. Al-C的反应程度与球磨时间、烧结温度、烧结时间和压块方式有关。球磨时间为10 h、烧结温度为1 000 ℃、烧结时间为1 h以及热压的条件下,Al-C反应较为完全,生成的Al4C3颗粒细小。
b. Al-5C中间合金能有效地细化AZ31合金的组织,添加量(质量分数)为2%时可获得最佳晶粒细化效果。
