This paper analyzes the effects of Sr elements and different heat treatment states on the microstructure, eutectic silicon morphology, mechanical properties, and fracture mode of Al-Si-Mg alloy. The paper also proposes a way to improve the plasticity of Al Si Mg cast alloys by regulating the morphology of eutectic silicon and reducing the number and sizes of hard and brittle phases such as Al (Fe, Mn) Si. The results show that, after Sr modification, the straight sheet eutectic silicon is transformed into fine feather shaped eutectic silicon, the elongation of the aluminum alloy increases by 137% compared to unmodified, while the alloy strength doesn’t improve significantly. After heat treatment, eutectic silicon undergoes melting and spheroidization, changing the fracture mode and mechanical properties of the aluminum alloy. After artificial aging and solid solution treatment, the yield strength and the elongation of the aluminum alloy increase by 73% and 97% respectively compared to the cast state. The quenching temperatures have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of the 2# alloy by T6 treated. When the quenching temperature is 530 ℃, after artificial aging treatment, the tensile and yield strength of the aluminum alloy are increased by 14% and 100% respectively compared to the cast state, and the elongation remains unchanged, demonstrating superior comprehensive mechanical properties.

This paper analyzes the effects of Sr elements and different heat treatment states on the microstructure, eutectic silicon morphology, mechanical properties, and fracture mode of Al-Si-Mg alloy. The paper also proposes a way to improve the plasticity of Al Si Mg cast alloys by regulating the morphology of eutectic silicon and reducing the number and sizes of hard and brittle phases such as Al (Fe, Mn) Si. The results show that, after Sr modification, the straight sheet eutectic silicon is transformed into fine feather shaped eutectic silicon, the elongation of the aluminum alloy increases by 137% compared to unmodified, while the alloy strength doesn’t improve significantly. After heat treatment, eutectic silicon undergoes melting and spheroidization, changing the fracture mode and mechanical properties of the aluminum alloy. After artificial aging and solid solution treatment, the yield strength and the elongation of the aluminum alloy increase by 73% and 97% respectively compared to the cast state. The quenching temperatures have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of the 2# alloy by T6 treated. When the quenching temperature is 530 ℃, after artificial aging treatment, the tensile and yield strength of the aluminum alloy are increased by 14% and 100% respectively compared to the cast state, and the elongation remains unchanged, demonstrating superior comprehensive mechanical properties.

Al-Si-Mg 系铸造合金是在Al-Si系合金基础上添加一定量Mg元素形成的一种特殊合金,该系合金具有凝固温度区间小、流动性好、收缩率低、热裂倾向小、不易形成铸造裂纹等性能特点,适用于制造复杂、薄壁、大型或有密封性要求的铸件,在汽车、机械、航空、航天等工业领域广泛应用[1-2]
部分应用场景除要求Al-Si-Mg 系合金具有良好的铸造工艺性能外,还需具有较强的力学性能。对Al-Si-Mg 系合金而言,主成分确定后,合金的力学性能往往与其组织形态、晶粒大小及热处理状态等因素相关。目前,行业内一方面通过向Al-Si-Mg 系合金中添加变质剂,改善共晶硅形貌,提升合金力学性能,另一方面,还可通过合金固溶、时效等热处理方式,提升Al-Si-Mg 系合金力学性能[3-4]
以汽车行业常用的Al-Si-Mg 系亚共晶铝合金为基础,研究采用Sr变质及不同热处理状态对Al-Si-Mg 系合金组织构成、共晶硅形貌、合金力学性能及断裂模式等方面的影响,为汽车用Al-Si-Mg 系材料开发与力学性能调控提供参考。
采用熔炼炉分别熔炼2种Al-Si-Mg 系亚共晶铝合金。其中1#铝合金不含Sr元素,2#铝合金Sr添加量为0.02 %(质量分数)。2种合金的其余元素种类与含量均相近,如表1所示。
之后采用高真空压铸工艺制备2种铝合金的压铸试棒。试棒规格执行GB/T 13822—2017《压铸有色合金试样》中的A型拉力试样[5],压铸试棒形貌如图1所示。
对2#压铸试棒分别进行人工时效、固溶处理与T6处理。其中固溶和T6处理的淬火分别采用490 ℃和530 ℃2种温度进行。热处理工艺参数如表2所示。
采用OLYMPUS金相显微镜、ZEISS场发射扫描电镜对2种铝合金样品进行金相组织、共晶硅与断口形貌分析;采用X射线能谱仪(Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy,EDX)分析2种铝合金样品的相成分构成;采用MTS拉伸试验机进行2种铝合金压铸试棒的力学性能测试,拉伸速度控制为2 mm/min。
1#和2#合金在铸态及不同热处理状态下的金相组织如图2所示。由图2a图2b对比可知:未经Sr变质的1#合金铸态组织主要为长直条及短杆状共晶硅+α-Al固溶体+块状及条状的Al(Fe,Mn)Si相,共晶硅长度分布在5~25 μm范围内,中添加质量分数为0.02%Sr的进行变质处理后,长直条及短杆状共晶硅明显细化,呈细小珊瑚状分布在α-Al固溶体边界,此时共晶硅长度<5 μm;2#合金铸态组织主要为细小珊瑚状共晶硅+α-Al固溶体+块状及条状的Al(Fe,Mn)Si相。上述观察结果表明,采用Sr变质可显著细化Al-Si-Mg 系铝合金中的共晶硅。
图2c~图2g图3所示为2#合金不同热处理状态下的金相组织。2#合金经200 ℃人工时效处理3 h后,金相组织与铸态较为接近,主要为细小珊瑚状共晶硅+α-Al固溶体+块状及条状的Al(Fe,Mn)Si相(见图2c)。但仔细对比图3a图3b还可发现,时效处理后的共晶硅较铸态分布更密集。在2 000倍光学显微镜下观察,已难分辨共晶硅之间的间隙。分析认为可能与时效处理后共晶硅发生粗化有关。
2#合金经不同固溶温度处理后,与铸态及时效态组织相比,主要发生2个方面的变化。一是共晶硅发生熔断并球化,由铸态的细小珊瑚状变为点状、球状形态,且较为均匀地分布在α-Al固溶体之间。其中固溶温度对共晶硅形貌的影响主要体现在粒状共晶硅尺寸上。当固溶温度为490 ℃时,共晶硅粒径均值约为2.4 μm;当固溶温度为530 ℃时,共晶硅发生轻微长大,粒径均值约为2.7 μm(图2d~图2e图3c~图3d)。二是组织中的块状及条状Al(Fe,Mn)Si相发生部分溶解,其中条状Al(Fe,Mn)Si相较块状Al(Fe,Mn)Si相溶解更充分,部分Al(Fe,Mn)Si相边界已模糊不清。此外还可发现,在530 ℃下固溶时,合金中Al(Fe,Mn)Si相较490 ℃下固溶更充分,但仍残存部分铸态Al(Fe,Mn)Si相,未能完全溶解(图3c~图3d)。2#铝合金在490 ℃和530 ℃下固溶3 h后的组织主要为点状、球状共晶硅+α-Al固溶体+部分边界已溶解的块状及条状Al(Fe,Mn)Si相。2种固溶温度下,组织均未见过烧现象。
2#合金在不同T6处理工艺下的组织形态与固溶态相近,组织主要为点状、球状共晶硅+α-Al固溶体+部分边界已溶解的块状及条状的Al(Fe,Mn)Si相,如图2f~图2g图3e~图3f所示。
为进一步探究添加Sr元素及不同热处理状态对Al-Si-Mg 系合金共晶硅形貌的影响,明晰共晶硅形貌转变机制,对1#和2#铝合金铸态及不同热处理态下的组织进行腐蚀,观察共晶硅三维形貌。
图4a图4b形貌对比可知:未经Sr变质的1#合金铸态下共晶硅呈相互交叉的直片状立体形态,与图2a中共晶硅呈长直条及短杆状的二维形态对应;采用Sr元素变质处理后,2#合金铸态下共晶硅呈相互连接的“细小羽毛状”形态,与图4a中直片状共晶硅形貌相比,共晶硅明显细化。研究表明[6-7],Al-Si合金添加Sr元素后,在合金凝固过程中,Sr附着在共晶硅固液界面前沿,阻碍共晶硅以台阶机制生长成块状或片状。同时,Sr的加入改变了硅原子堆垛次序,并在共晶硅中产生大量孪晶,进而改变共晶硅的生长方向,实现共晶硅形貌调控。
图5所示为2#合金共晶硅形貌放大。如图4c所示,2#合金经人工时效处理后,共晶硅三维形貌与铸态相近,但细小羽毛状结构呈粗化趋势,且分枝间沟痕加深(图5b)。分析认为,人工时效处理可加速共晶硅的熔断与长大。但由于人工时效温度较低且热处理时间短,共晶硅难以完全熔断。因而2#合金经人工时效处理后,共晶硅较铸态下的细小羽毛状分枝特征粗化、分枝间沟痕加深,与前述金相组织分析呈现的时效处理后共晶硅较铸态分布更密集、间距更小的现象一致。
在490 ℃固溶处理3 h后,2#合金的共晶硅呈短杆状、粒状分布在α-Al固溶体上,见图4d。部分短杆状共晶硅相互连接,仍可隐约观察到铸态共晶硅的枝晶形貌特征,可能与固溶处理温度偏低或保温时间不足有关。当固溶温度升至530 ℃,同样保温3 h后,2#合金的粒状共晶硅数量占比明显增多,短杆状共晶硅数量占比则有所降低,见图4e
2#合金在不同T6处理工艺下的共晶硅形貌与固溶态相近,如图4f图4g所示。
图6图7所示分别为2#合金在铸态及高温固溶态下的共晶硅EDS面扫描。EDS分析结果表明,“细小羽毛状”及“短杆状”相为共晶硅,周边基体为α-Al固溶体。
通过上述2种铝合金的金相组织与共晶硅形态分析可知,调控Al-Si-Mg系合金共晶硅形貌的手段主要有2种:一方面可通过向Al-Si系合金中添加变质元素(如Sr),改变硅原子堆垛次序及共晶硅生长方向,实现共晶硅形貌调控,将粗大直片状共晶硅细化,最终呈“细小羽毛状”形态特征;另一方面,可通过改变热处理工艺参数调控共晶硅形貌。热处理对共晶硅形貌的影响主要体现在共晶硅的粒化转变上,该转变可为分共晶硅熔断和球化2个阶段。随着热处理温度升高,共晶硅活化能增大,扩散速度加快,在共晶硅孪晶缺陷及枝晶分枝等薄弱部位首先发生共晶硅熔断,直片状共晶硅分割呈短片状实现共晶硅细化;随着热处理温度进一步升高及时间进一步延长,位于外层及尖角处的共晶硅因活化能较大,发生不断溶解并向内收缩,且两端棱角钝化,圆整度不断提升[8],最后形成短杆状、球状共晶硅(图8)。若热处理温度过高或保温时间过长,短杆状、球状共晶硅将不断聚集长大,最终呈现粗化形态。
1#和2#合金在铸态及不同热处理状态下的力学性能试验结果如图9表3所示。未经Sr变质的1#合金铸态下抗拉、屈服和断后伸长率均值分别为295 MPa、148 MPa和3.0%;经Sr变质处理的2#合金抗拉、屈服和断后伸长率均值分别为299 MPa、142 MPa和7.1%。经Sr变质处理后,合金抗拉和屈服强度变化不大,但断后伸长率提升了137%。
2#合金经200 ℃保温3 h人工时效处理后,合金抗拉强度较铸态提升了15%,达到345 MPa;屈服强度则呈大幅提升趋势,提升了73%,达到245 MPa;断后伸长率由铸态下的7.1%降为3.8%,降幅46%。上述结果表明,采用200 ℃人工时效3 h,大幅提升了合金的屈服强度,抗拉强度明显提升,但延伸率显著降低。上述性能变化可能与以下因素有关:a.共晶硅时效后发生粗化现象,导致合金塑性降低;b.2#合金采用高真空压铸工艺制备,该工艺下合金冷却速度极快,组织为非平衡状态且组织内具有较高能量。人工时效处理后,组织中的亚稳相析出,提升了合金的屈服和抗拉强度,降低了延伸率。但同时也需注意,对不同铝合金成分体系,当采用不同时效温度、时效时间等参数时,合金内相转变也不尽相同,因而时效工艺对铝合金强度、塑性的影响也可能发生变化。
不同固溶温度下,2#合金的力学性能变化如下:490 ℃保温3 h再经水淬处理后,2#合金的抗拉、屈服强度分别较铸态降低19%和22%,断后伸长率则提升97%;当采用较高温度530 ℃保温3 h再经水淬处理后,2#合金的抗拉、屈服强度分别较铸态降低10%和11%,低于490 ℃固溶处理下的强度性能降幅,其断后伸长率则与490 ℃固溶一致,均较铸态提升了97%。上述不同固溶温度对2#铝合金的性能影响分析如下。一方面,固溶处理后,合金内第二相(如Al(Fe,Mn)Si、β-Mg2Si)部分或全部固溶到α-Al固溶体,形成单相α-Al固溶体。由于第二相部分溶解造成的固溶强化作用低于原第二相质点对位错运动的阻力,因而合金强度性能降低。但随固溶温度提高,固溶强化效果增强,进而较高温度(530 ℃)条件下固溶后,强度性能降幅缩小[9]。另一方面,合金内共晶硅由铸态下的“细小羽毛状”转为“短杆状、球状”,降低了共晶硅对α-Al固溶体的割裂作用,大幅提升合金塑性。
不同淬火温度对2#合金T6处理的力学性能影响如下:当采用较低温度(490 ℃)保温3 h淬火,再经200 ℃人工时效3 h时,合金的抗拉和屈服强度分别较铸态下降了28%和14%,为214 MPa和122 MPa;断后伸长率则较铸态提升41%,断后伸长率达到10%。上述T6热处理工艺下,2#合金力学性能与固溶态较为接近。但与铸态强度性能相比,不仅没有提升,还呈现大幅下降趋势。若将淬火温度提升至530 ℃,保温时间不变,再经相同工艺下的人工时效处理,2#合金抗拉和屈服强度则较铸态分别提高了14%和100%,为342 MPa和284 MPa,断后伸长率与铸态持平,为7.1%,显示出优良的综合力学性能。分析认为,在较低温度(490 ℃)固溶处理再经人工时效处理后,2#合金力学性能异常的可能原因如下:铝合金固溶处理的目的是获得溶质和空位双过饱和的固溶体,为后续时效处理时的强化相析出创造条件,因而固溶处理时,铝合金中强化相溶入固溶体中越充分,且固溶体成分越均匀,时效处理后合金力学性能越强。一般来说,淬火温度越高,上述过程进行越完全[9]。若淬火温度较低,铝合金中强化相难以完全溶解,后续时效处理过程中,合金强化相析出不足导致强度降低。但对2#合金经490 ℃保温3 h后淬火,再经200 ℃人工时效3 h后的材料抗拉强度低于仅经490 ℃固溶3 h时的抗拉强度现象,还有待进一步深入研究。
1#和2#合金在铸态及不同热处理状态下的拉伸断口微观形貌如图10所示。2#合金不同热处理状态下的拉伸断口纵向形貌如图11所示。
1#合金铸态下呈准解理断裂,断裂面可见二次裂纹(图10a),表明合金塑性较低,呈脆性断裂;2#合金铸态下同样呈准解理断裂,但断口上存在部分因塑性变形产生的撕裂岭(图10b),表明2#合金断口较1#合金变形更充分,且具有相对较优的塑性变形能力,该断口形貌特征与前述力学性能分析结果一致。此外,结合图11a还可知,2#合金铸态下沿共晶硅和Al(Fe,Mn)Si等脆性相处发生开裂,因而可通过调控共晶硅形貌及减少Al(Fe,Mn)Si等脆性相数量和尺寸等措施,提升铝合金的塑性。
2#合金的时效态断口与其铸态相近,断口上均存在一定撕裂岭形态,但该断口同时也存在数量较多的平整解理面,见图10c,表明2#合金人工时效态下的塑性变形能力虽优于1#合金铸态,但仍低于2#合金铸态。图图11b同样表明,时效态下的2#合金同样沿细小共晶硅处发生开裂。
经490 ℃和530 ℃固溶3 h后的2#合金断口布满韧窝,(图10d和10e),呈典型韧性断裂特征,表明上述固溶处理状态下,合金具有优良的塑性变形能力。此外,还可发现断口韧窝附近存在粒状共晶硅,结合图11c图11d可知,固溶态下2#合金沿粒状共晶硅发生开裂。
不同T6热处理状态下的2#合金断口形貌见图10f图10g。T6状态下,2#合金断口同样存在较多韧窝,但与固溶态相比,韧窝数量与韧窝深度明显缩减,表明T6处理后,2#合金塑性变形能力有一定程度降低。
综合上述断裂形貌分析可知,相比共晶硅及Al(Fe,Mn)Si等硬脆相,α-Al基体具有较好塑性变形能力。因而提升Al-Si-Mg 系铸造合金塑性的关键在于调控共晶硅形貌及减少Al(Fe,Mn)Si等硬脆相数量及尺寸,延缓并减少铝合金内裂纹的产生。
a. Al-Si-Mg 系合金通过Sr变质改变硅原子堆垛次序及共晶硅生长方向,实现共晶硅细化与改变共晶硅形貌。未经Sr变质的铝合金,铸态下共晶硅二维形貌呈长直条及短杆状,长度在5~20 μm范围的;三维下观察,呈相互交叉的直片状。Sr变质处理后,铝合金铸态下共晶硅二维形貌呈细小珊瑚状,长度<5 μm;三维呈相互连接的“细小羽毛状”结构。
b. Al-Si-Mg 系合金可通过热处理手段实现共晶硅的熔断与球化。经人工时效处理后,共晶硅与铸态形貌相近,但其“细小羽毛状”分枝发生粗化,且分枝间沟痕加深;经固溶及T6处理后,共晶硅进一步球化,呈短杆状、粒状分布在α-Al固溶体上。
c. Sr变质处理后,Al-Si-Mg 系合金的断后伸长率由变质前的3%提升至7.1%,提升了137%。但Sr变质处理对合金强度影响不明显。
d. 人工时效处理大幅提升了2#合金的屈服强度,由铸态下142 MPa提升至245 MPa,提升73%;明显提升合金的抗拉强度,由铸态299 MPa提升至345 MPa,提升15%;但显著降低合金的断后伸长率,由铸态下7.1%降为3.8%,降幅46%。
e. 不同固溶处理温度对2#合金的强度性能影响较大,但对断后伸长率影响较小。当采用490 ℃固溶3 h后,合金抗拉、屈服强度分别较铸态降低19%和22%;当固溶温度提升至530 ℃,固溶3 h后,合金抗拉、屈服强度较铸态分别降低10%和11%,明显低于490 ℃固溶处理下的强度性能降幅。在490 ℃和530 ℃固溶3 h,2#合金的断后伸长率均较铸态提升了97%,均为14%。
f. 不同淬火温度对2#合金T6处理的力学性能影响较大。当淬火温度为490 ℃,再经人工时效处理后,合金抗拉和屈服强度分别较铸态下降28%和14%,断后伸长率较铸态提升41%。分析推测该淬火温度下,铝合金内第二相固溶不充分,影响后续人工时效时材料力学性能的提升。当淬火温度提升至530 ℃,再经人工时效处理后,合金抗拉和屈服强度分别较铸态提高14%和100%,断后伸长率与铸态持平,呈现较为优良的综合力学性能。
g. Al-Si-Mg 系合金在铸态及人工时效态下呈准解理断裂,断口虽存在部分因塑性变形产生的撕裂岭,但整体仍呈脆性断裂;在固溶及T6状态下,合金断口存在较多韧窝,呈典型韧性断裂。表明固溶及T6态处理后,合金具有优异的塑性变形能力。
h. 对Al-Si-Mg 系铸造合金而言,α-Al基体较共晶硅及Al(Fe,Mn)Si等硬脆相具有较好的塑性变形能力。因而提升Al-Si-Mg 系铸造合金塑性的关键在于调控共晶硅形貌及减少Al(Fe,Mn)Si等硬脆相数量及尺寸,进而延缓及减少铝合金内裂纹产生。
