In order to investigate the effects of Ionic Liquid (IL) additives on the tribological properties of the key pairs of internal combustion engine, nitriding cylinder liner and molybdenum spray piston ring under high-reinforcement conditions, the lubricating oil with 2% ionic liquid mass fraction is used to lubricate the pairs. By analyzing the surface morphology, composition and tribological chemical reaction products of the worn pairs, the paper investigates wear behavior and relates mechanism of pair under ionic liquid lubrication, and evaluates its influence on friction, wear and wear characteristics of pairs. The experimental results show that the ionic liquid additive can improve the tribological properties of nitriding cylinder liner and molybdenum injection piston ring pair. The ionic liquid has the best tribological properties at 180 ℃, which is related to the tribological chemical reaction of ionic liquid on the surface of cylinder liner and its products.

为探究高强化运行工况下离子液体(IL)添加剂对内燃机关键配对副、氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环摩擦学性能的影响,采用离子液体质量分数为2%的润滑油润滑配对副,通过分析磨损后配对副的表面微观形貌、成分以及摩擦化学反应产物,探究配对副在离子液体润滑条件下的磨损行为及其相关机制,评价其对配对副摩擦、磨损和磨损特性的影响。试验结果表明:离子液体添加剂有助于提升氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环配对副的摩擦学性能;在180 ℃条件下,离子液体具有最佳的摩擦学性能,该现象与离子液体在气缸套表面上的摩擦化学反应及其产物有关。

In order to investigate the effects of Ionic Liquid (IL) additives on the tribological properties of the key pairs of internal combustion engine, nitriding cylinder liner and molybdenum spray piston ring under high-reinforcement conditions, the lubricating oil with 2% ionic liquid mass fraction is used to lubricate the pairs. By analyzing the surface morphology, composition and tribological chemical reaction products of the worn pairs, the paper investigates wear behavior and relates mechanism of pair under ionic liquid lubrication, and evaluates its influence on friction, wear and wear characteristics of pairs. The experimental results show that the ionic liquid additive can improve the tribological properties of nitriding cylinder liner and molybdenum injection piston ring pair. The ionic liquid has the best tribological properties at 180 ℃, which is related to the tribological chemical reaction of ionic liquid on the surface of cylinder liner and its products.

近年来,柴油发动机逐渐向高功率密度发展,在功率相同的条件下减小了整机尺寸,导致活塞环-气缸套间的温度及压力不断提高,从而使摩擦功耗显著增加,并严重影响发动机的可靠性和使用寿命[1]。McMillan的研究表明,发动机中的大部分摩擦损失由此产生[2],故改善活塞环-气缸套配对副的摩擦学性能和可靠性对于现代内燃机的发展至关重要[3-4]
活塞环-气缸套配对副间的润滑性能改善方法之一是使用高质量润滑油。润滑油由基础油和各种添加剂组成[5]。大多数具有优异性能的润滑油含有多种添加剂,如抗磨剂、摩擦改性剂、粘度改性剂、抗氧化剂、分散剂等[6]。然而,大多数抗磨添加剂,如二烷基二硫代磷酸锌,会在热分解时产生灰质(Ash),导致催化剂失活[7],因此需要找到一种无灰且更有效的抗磨添加剂。
离子液体(Ionic Liquid,IL)是一种熔点低于100 ℃的盐,其溶解液完全由阴、阳离子组成[8],具有良好的热稳定性、极性、高粘性且不易燃[9]。2001年,离子液体被首次用作润滑油添加剂[10]。国外学者的早期研究大多集中于以四氟硼酸盐和六氟磷酸盐为阴离子的咪唑型离子液体,它们在各种金属配对副中表现出良好的润滑性能[11]。然而,咪唑型离子液体含有卤族元素,具有强腐蚀性和毒性,且会对环境造成严重污染,限制了其在发动机上的应用[12]。与传统含卤族元素的离子液体相比,含磷酸根的离子液体具有更低的腐蚀性和更好的润滑性。这类离子液体含有在摩擦化学反应过程中起到重要作用的磷元素,可以实现较好的减摩效果,许多学者对磷酸盐基离子液体进行了相关研究[13]。大多数国内外学者[14]针对添加磷酸盐型离子液体的基础油的润滑性能进行了研究,但主要试验多在标准试验机上进行,如四球试验机、销/盘试验机、环/块试验机等。研究发现,离子液体确实具有较好的减摩效果[15],然而,大多数试验的温度最高只能达到100 ℃,与内燃机的实际工作温度仍有很大差距,且均为材料级试验,难以模拟内燃机活塞环-气缸套配对副在实机中的润滑状态和磨损形式。为了验证磷酸盐基离子液体在实机工况下是否仍具有减摩效果,有必要在更贴近实机运行工况,即在活塞到达上止点附近,活塞环与气缸套间的润滑状态下,对其进行测试。
本文主要研究典型活塞环涂层与氮化气缸套进行配副的磨损行为。根据试样磨损后的表面形貌与化学元素分布的变化情况分析磨损过程,并通过磨损试验评估磷酸盐基离子液体对此配对副摩擦学性能的影响。
本文试验使用的基础润滑油为一种商用合成油(HVIH-5),离子液体化学式为[THTDP][PHOS],名称为2,4,4-三甲基戊基次膦酸盐,分子结构如图1所示。
将离子液体加入基础油(HVIH-5)中,超声振荡分散50 min,得到含离子液体的均匀混合润滑油,发动机油选取CF-4 10W40 4652D。本文分别对质量分数为1.5%、2.0%、2.5%、3.0%的磷酸盐基离子液体润滑油进行测试,选择减摩效果最佳的离子液体浓度,并对该浓度的含磷酸盐基离子液体的润滑油在不同温度、恒定载荷下进行后续试验。
在活塞环-气缸套配对副中测试含磷酸盐基离子液体的润滑油,本文试验选择喷钼活塞环。为最大程度模拟实机工况,选取的活塞环均为实机上使用的开口环,考虑到开口环的曲率问题,使用线切割机以开口处为始点,沿圆周方向,分别在90°和270°处进行切割,并选取该位置的试样进行试验。通过扫描电镜观察涂层的截面形貌,发现涂层的最大厚度为220 μm,如图2所示。通过显微硬度计测试,喷钼活塞环工作面的维氏硬度为475.4 HV0.1,轮廓的算数平均偏差Ra为0.31 μm。所选用的氮化气缸套内部有很浅的珩磨纹,其工作表面维氏硬度为574.75 HV0.1,Ra为0.021 μm。
试验所用气缸套为氮化镜面气缸套,用车刀沿气缸套外壁最凹处进行切割,切割后的气缸套为直筒状。首先采用电火花线切割机将完整气缸套沿圆周方向均匀等分为60份,随后将气缸套切成43 mm的等长小段作为试验试样,切割后的气缸套试样和活塞环试样如图3所示。试验前,使用汽油和酒精超声清洗气缸套和活塞环试样30 min。
采用对置式往复摩擦磨损试验机进行温度级试验。该试验机针对活塞环-气缸套摩擦磨损特点,按照试样试验的磨损形式-条件模拟准则设计,能够较好地模拟活塞环-气缸套摩擦学系统的摩擦磨损行为。
试验分为低温低载荷磨合阶段和高温高载荷磨损阶段,润滑油以0.1 mL/min的速度流入试验机,每组试验重复3次以上,选取3组误差在10%以内的数据并取平均值,试验参数如表1所示。
采用OLYMPUS-OLS4000激光扫描共聚焦显微镜(Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope,CLSM)观察气缸套和活塞环磨损后的表面形貌,通过测量气缸套与活塞环已磨损区域和未磨损区域的台阶来表征其线磨损量。
采用ZEISS-SUPRA 55 SAPPHIRE扫描电子显微镜(Scanning Electron Microscope,SEM)对配对副磨损前、后的微观形貌进行观察与分析。
利用X射线光电子能谱(X-ray Photo-electron Spectroscopy,XPS)对气缸套和活塞环表面摩擦化学反应产物的种类和数量进行检测与分析。
选用氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环配对副作为研究对象,在相同载荷和温度条件下进行试验。图4所示为含不同质量分数离子液体的润滑油对应的摩擦力曲线。
图4中可以看出,低载荷条件下,基础油润滑条件下的摩擦力明显高于添加离子液体的润滑油润滑时的摩擦力,这是由于基础油中没有极性官能团(羧基、羟基、硫酸盐和季铵盐等),基础油润滑的滑动面难以形成稳定而牢固的油膜所致。在基础油中加入离子液体后,低载荷磨合阶段的摩擦力明显下降,这可能是由于配对副在摩擦过程中产生了电位差,使离子液体中的官能团吸附在基体表面,从而降低了摩擦力[16]。但在高载荷的稳定磨损阶段,采用基础油润滑时的摩擦力迅速下降并保持稳定,而采用加入离子液体的润滑油润滑时的摩擦力需要较长时间才能下降并保持稳定。这可能是由于在高载荷条件下,离子液体与基体表面发生摩擦化学反应,形成了摩擦化学反应膜[17]。摩擦化学反应需要一定的时间,故添加离子液体后摩擦力所需的稳定时间明显长于采用基础油润滑的情况。当离子液体质量分数为2.0%时,磨合阶段和稳定磨损阶段的摩擦力均是最低且最稳定的;当离子液体的质量分数为3.0%时,磨合阶段和稳定磨损阶段的摩擦力均是4种添加浓度中最大的;当离子液体质量分数为1.5%时,磨合阶段的摩擦力接近离子液体质量分数为2.0%的情况,但稳定磨损阶段的摩擦力也大于离子液体质量分数为2.0%的情况。
因此,本文试验最终选取离子液体质量分数为2.0%,这与Qu[18]的试验结果相似。值得注意的是,加入不同质量分数的离子液体对润滑油的减摩性能影响具有较大差异,但均优于纯基础油润滑的情况。
图5所示为试验载荷为40 MPa时3种温度条件下采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环的摩擦力曲线。
图5可知,离子液体对氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环配对副中基础油的减摩性能有显著影响。与基础油相比,添加离子液体后的润滑油在3种不同温度下得到的摩擦力均低于使用基础油润滑的情况,并且其摩擦力在整个试验阶段更加稳定。在磨合期和稳定磨损期,添加离子液体的润滑油润滑性能均显着提高。在稳定磨损期,采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的摩擦力需要一段时间逐渐下降,最终保持稳定,采用基础油润滑时的摩擦力可以迅速稳定。造成该现象的可能原因是,在稳定磨损阶段,离子液体与配对副基体发生反应,形成更坚固的摩擦化学反应膜,而发生摩擦化学反应需要一定的时间,该摩擦化学反应膜可以有效保护配对副,避免微凸体的直接接触[19]
图6所示为试验载荷为40 MPa时3种温度条件下采用含离子液体润滑油与基础油润滑时的氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环对应的摩擦因数。
图6可知,在3种温度下,采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的摩擦因数均小于采用基础油润滑时的情况。在相同载荷下,含离子液体润滑油润滑时的摩擦因数随着温度的上升呈先下降、后上升的趋势,其在180 ℃时的摩擦因数最低,220 ℃时的摩擦因数次之,在150 ℃时摩擦因数最高。而基础油润滑时的摩擦因数曲线随着温度的升高而增加,说明随着温度的升高,基础油的油膜承载能力不断下降,无法有效避免微凸体的直接接触,导致摩擦因数增大。由上述试验结果可知:离子液体可以有效提升基础油的减摩性能,减少微凸体的直接接触,降低摩擦因数。此外,含离子液体润滑油在温度较高的情况下具有更低的摩擦因数,其在180 ℃时摩擦因数最低,220 ℃次之。这表明此种离子液体在高温下对基础油的减摩性能改善效果更好,这可能是由于离子液体在高温下与基体表面发生的摩擦化学反应更为剧烈,形成了更致密的摩擦化学反应膜[20]。该化学反应膜与离子液体分解产生的物理吸附膜共同作用,减小了滑动过程中配对副的摩擦。
为了进一步验证离子液体在发动机油中是否仍具有良好的减摩性能,在温度为180 ℃、载荷为40 MPa的试验条件下向CF-4 10W-40发动机油中加入离子液体,使其质量分数达到2.0%,试验结果如图7所示。
图7可知,向发动机油中添加离子液体仍可以有效降低摩擦因数,且离子液体在发动机油中仍具有良好的减摩效果,证实了离子液体在该工况下可以改善成品油的润滑性能,并可作为其潜在的替代品[21]
图8所示为试验载荷为40 MPa时3种温度条件下采用含离子液体润滑油与基础油润滑时的氮化气缸套和喷钼活塞环的磨损量对比结果。
试验结果表明:含离子液体润滑油在3种温度下均能有效降低气缸套和活塞环的磨损深度。与基础油相比,其在180 ℃时缸套磨损量下降比例最大,为16.4%,在220 ℃、150 ℃时缸套磨损量分别下降7.3%和7.1%。与采用基础油相比,采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时喷钼活塞环在220 ℃、180 ℃、150 ℃时的磨损深度分别对应下降了32.9%、27.9%和17.7%。该配对副的总磨损深度均随着温度的升高而增加。
图8中还可看出,活塞环的磨损量明显较氮化气缸套大,造成该现象的原因是气缸套表面存在高硬度的氮化层,其硬度远高于对应配副的喷钼涂层,当活塞环表面沿剪切方向承受较大的剪切力时,活塞环磨损量较大。除此之外,加入离子液体后,温度对气缸套和活塞环磨损量的影响程度明显小于润滑油种类的影响程度。其磨损量在180 ℃与220 ℃时基本无变化,气缸套和活塞环在行程中不同位置的磨损情况不同,在行程中部以流体动压润滑为主[22]。因此,选用低黏度润滑油可以有效减少该部位的磨损和摩擦功消耗。
在低黏度基础矿物油中添加离子液体,取得了良好的减摩效果,表明离子液体可以作为添加剂添加到低黏度润滑油中,其摩擦学性能可与现有的高黏度润滑油相媲美,具有良好的发展潜力[23]
图9所示为不同温度下采用基础油和含离子液体润滑油润滑时的氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环配对副对应的气缸套的磨损形貌。本文选取2种现象较为明显的工况进行比对。
由2种温度下磨损试验后的表面形貌对比结果可知,含离子液体润滑油润滑情况下的磨损量显著小于采用基础油润滑的情况。采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的气缸套表面沿滑动方向存在一定数量的划痕且珩磨纹存在轻微塑性变形,而采用基础油润滑时的气缸套表面磨损严重,表面沿滑动方向存在大量的塑性流动层且多数珩磨纹被塑性流动层完全填充,气缸套表面存在部分疲劳剥落现象。
图10所示为不同温度下采用基础油和含离子液体润滑油润滑时的氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环配对副对应活塞环的磨损形貌。
活塞环在180 ℃磨损试验后的表面沿滑动方向存在黑色发暗区域,与180 ℃时磨损后气缸套表面形貌类似。采用基础油润滑时活塞环表面的磨损程度更为严重,沿滑动方向发生了明显的塑性流动,且涂层剥落的面积增加。当试验温度提高到220 ℃时,采用基础油润滑时的活塞环表面发生大面积剥落,在剥落处边缘还发生了明显的塑性变形,说明在该温度下局部油膜已经坍塌,无法避免微凸体直接接触,导致了活塞环的严重磨损。而采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的活塞环表面沿滑动方向存在大量裂纹,裂纹随着摩擦的进行不断扩展,导致活塞环基体小面积剥落,同时在活塞环表面发现麻点和坑穴,这说明此时已发生疲劳磨损。
为进一步探究不同温度条件下离子液体对基础油摩擦学性能改善的影响,利用XPS表征方法对3种温度下对应氮化气缸套表面的黑色发暗区域进行分析。图11图12所示分别为150 ℃下采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时对应的气缸套磨损后表面XPS总谱图和摩擦膜各元素的XPS精细谱图。
拟合分峰结果显示,离子液体在150 ℃温度条件下共出现4个峰值。由图12a可知,C元素共形成1种碳化物(结合能为288.54±0.1 eV)与4种长链含碳聚合物(结合能分别为286.82±0.1 eV、284.50±0.1 eV、285.03±0.1 eV、285.84±0.1 eV),表明离子液体部分分解,摩擦过程中产生的电势差与载荷的双重作用使得阴离子基团分解并吸附在气缸套基体表面,形成了一层减摩性能较好的物理吸附膜。由图12b图12c可知,Fe在摩擦的过程中被氧化,生成了氧化物Fe2O3(结合能为711.38±0.1 eV)与FeO(结合能为708.89±0.1 eV),2种氧化物均具有较低的剪切力[24],并且氧化膜的生成速率大于其消耗速率,可以有效减少配对副表面的直接接触,从而减小摩擦和磨损。由图12d可知,在该温度下生成了膦酸盐(结合能为133.49±0.1 eV),说明离子液体中的P元素参与了摩擦化学反应。
当试验温度为150 ℃时,采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的气缸套表面生成的反应膜由大量含碳长链聚合物、Fe2O3、FeO、膦酸盐组成。物理吸附膜和摩擦化学反应膜发生了协同作用,减小了摩擦与磨损。
图13图14所示分别为180 ℃下采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时对应的气缸套磨损后表面XPS总谱图和气缸套表面摩擦膜各元素XPS精细谱图。
图14a中可以看出,180 ℃条件下表面摩擦膜中的C元素含量与150 ℃条件下的结果相比有所增加,说明随着温度上升,离子液体分解速度加快,阴、阳离子基团中的碳链断裂程度加剧[25]。离子液体的窄谱结果表明,在180 ℃条件下生成了多重长链含碳聚合物(结合能分别为288.71±0.1 eV、286.28±0.1 eV、284.76±0.1 eV、285.15±0.1 eV、283.70±0.1 eV)与C-C单键(结合能为284.26±0.1 eV)。以上结果说明,该温度下生成的物理吸附膜含量增加,且值得注意的是,在该温度下没有检测到C=C键。上述结果表明,离子液体中的磷酸根阴离子已经分解较为彻底,形成了多种聚合物吸附在基体表面。
Fe2p在180 ℃条件下的光谱结果与150 ℃条件下的光谱结果相似,在气缸套表面检测到Fe2O3、FeS(结合能分别为710.73±0.1 eV、712.09±0.1 eV)、硫酸铁(结合能为714.20±0.1 eV)。生成氧化物的种类增加表明,随着温度的升高,摩擦化学反应的剧烈程度也在增加。180 ℃条件下P元素的分峰拟合结果与150 ℃时的结果有所不同。在该温度下生成了磷酸铁(结合能为133.71±0.1 eV)和膦酸盐(结合能为133.29±0.1 eV)[25],这应该是前文提到的气缸套表面黑色发暗区域的组成物质。180 ℃条件下的XPS结果表明,随着温度的升高,摩擦化学反应的程度更强烈,生成的磷酸铁、膦酸盐与气缸套表面生成的金属氧化物和聚合物协同作用,有效降低气缸套与活塞环之间的摩擦力,使配对副在该温度下摩擦因数达到最低,配对副的磨损量下降比例最高。
图15所示为220 ℃条件下采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时对应的气缸套磨损后表面XPS总谱图,与摩擦膜相关的元素为C、O、Fe、P。图16所示为对应的气缸套表面摩擦膜各元素XPS精细谱图。
结合图15图16结果可知:当试验温度达到220 ℃时,C元素的精细谱图结果与前2种温度下试验结果存在明显差异,该结果只含2种长链聚合物(结合能分别为288.66±0.1 eV、286.09±0.1 eV),且单位时间内测得的光电子数量峰强较180 ℃时有所下降。表明在较高的温度下,大多数长链含碳聚合物在高温下分解,气缸套表面的化学吸附膜被破坏。而O元素的单位时间内测得的光电子数量峰强则明显高于180 ℃时的对应峰强,且生成的氧化物种类也较多,说明在220 ℃温度下摩擦化学反应程度更剧烈。
在150 ℃温度条件下,Fe元素精细谱图的结果表明,形成了Fe2O3(结合能为711.58±0.1 eV)、FeO(结合能为709.58±0.1 eV)与硫酸盐(结合能为713.60±0.1 eV)。同时,由于高温下氧化过程的加剧,基体表面的Fe元素与基础油中的S元素发生摩擦化学反应的过程加速[26],与180 ℃条件下的结果相比,气缸套表面产生的硫酸盐有所增加。P元素精细谱图的结果表明生成了磷酸盐(结合能为133.41±0.1 eV)。上述结论表明,当温度升高到220 ℃时,虽然吸附在基体表面的化学吸附膜被破坏,但是随着摩擦化学反应的加剧,气缸套表面氧化程度随之加剧,形成了多种氧化物。伴随着离子液体分解氧化过程,形成的磷酸盐与多种氧化物在配对副表面协同作用,从而弥补了被破坏的物理吸附膜所能起到的减摩效果,因此,在220 ℃温度条件下的摩擦因数较150 ℃温度条件下小,但较180 ℃温度条件下大。
在摩擦磨损过程中,由于低能电子外溢,摩擦表面带有正电,因此,大量的阴离子自发地吸附在摩擦界面上。由于静电相互作用,阳离子吸附在阴离子表面[27]。随着摩擦过程的进一步加剧,阴离子和阳离子在基体表面发生复杂的摩擦化学反应,形成稳定的化学反应膜[28]
在本文试验中,对磨损表面进行表征后发现,离子液体在高温高载荷的高强化工况下具有良好的减摩效果。在150 ℃条件下,离子液体的阴、阳离子基团初步分解,形成少量含碳和含磷的聚合物吸附在气缸套表面的氧化膜上。当温度逐渐升高时,摩擦化学反应愈发剧烈,离子液体中的阴、阳离子基团进一步分解,形成大量的含碳长链聚合物和磷酸酯,能有效分离摩擦界面,减少微凸体的直接接触,进一步减小气缸套和活塞环的摩擦磨损。而当温度上升到220 ℃时,吸附在气缸套表面氧化物上的含碳长链聚合物和磷酸酯开始分解,其数量和种类明显减少,导致离子液体在该温度下润滑性能下降,但其润滑性能仍优于150 ℃条件下的情况。
本文将膦酸盐基离子液体作为减摩添加剂均匀分散到基础油中,选取内燃机中典型配对副氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环进行试验,确定了该配对副中离子液体添加到基础油中时其最优质量分数。在此基础上进行温度级试验,研究了高强化工况下膦酸盐基离子液体对基础油减摩耐磨性能的影响,并分析了相关机制。研究结论如下:
a. 在基础油中加入离子液体润滑油添加剂可以显著提高氮化气缸套-喷钼活塞环间的减摩与耐磨性能,本文试验中膦酸盐基离子液体作为减摩剂的最佳质量分数为2.0%。
b. 在载荷不变的情况下,采用含离子液体润滑油润滑时的配对副摩擦因数在180 ℃时最低,220 ℃时次之,150 ℃时最高。这种膦酸盐基离子液体能有效降低气缸套和活塞环的磨损,且气缸套和活塞环的磨损随着温度的升高而增加。
c. XPS的表征结果表明,膦酸盐基离子液体能在气缸套表面形成物理吸附膜和致密的摩擦化学反应膜,可有效分离摩擦界面,从而降低摩擦磨损。通过对XPS的试验结果分析发现,试验温度为180 ℃时离子液体润滑性能最好,是由于在此温度下离子液体中的阴、阳离子基团的分解较为彻底,并且随着温度的升高,摩擦化学反应程度愈发剧烈,形成的长链含碳聚合物物理吸附膜和摩擦化学反应膜在基体表面协同作用,减少了摩擦表面的相互接触,从而有效降低摩擦磨损。
