Lu Qikeng (1927—2015) was a principal pioneer of the discipline of several complex variables in China, and one of the core inheritors of the Hua Luogeng School. Despite physical disabilities, he achieved self−taught academic success. Together with Hua Luogeng, he co−established the disciplinary system of several complex variables in China, fostered China's first research team in this field and more than 30 academic leaders. His academic achievements were remarkable: he proposed the "Lu Qikeng Conjecture" and proved the "Lu Qikeng Theorem", with related research leading the West by more than a decade. He took the lead in revealing the connection between gauge fields and fiber bundle connection theory. As a forerunner of academic exchanges, he promoted in − depth mathematical exchanges between China and foreign countries. He was honored with many awards, including the first Hua Luogeng Mathematics Prize. The research achievements in several complex variables, to which he contributed to the foundation and development, were listed by General Secretary Xi Jinping as important scientific achievements since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Throughout his life, he practiced the concepts of serving the country through science and devoting himself to educating people, composing an inspiring life movement of perseverance.

陆启铿(1927—2015)是中国多复变函数论学科的主要开拓者,华罗庚学派的主要传承者之一。他与华罗庚共创中国多复变函数论学科,培养了国内首支相关研究队伍及30余名领军人才。其学术成果丰硕,提出“陆启铿猜想”、证明了“陆启铿定理”等,相关成果曾领先西方10多年,率先揭示规范场与纤维丛联络论的关联。作为学术交流先行者,他推动中外数学交流,助力学科发展。获首届华罗庚数学奖及其他多项殊荣,其参与奠基发展的多复变函数论研究成果,被习近平总书记列为新中国成立以来的重要科学成就。他一生践行科学报国、潜心育人理念,谱写了自强不息的生命乐章。

Lu Qikeng (1927—2015) was a principal pioneer of the discipline of several complex variables in China, and one of the core inheritors of the Hua Luogeng School. Despite physical disabilities, he achieved self−taught academic success. Together with Hua Luogeng, he co−established the disciplinary system of several complex variables in China, fostered China's first research team in this field and more than 30 academic leaders. His academic achievements were remarkable: he proposed the "Lu Qikeng Conjecture" and proved the "Lu Qikeng Theorem", with related research leading the West by more than a decade. He took the lead in revealing the connection between gauge fields and fiber bundle connection theory. As a forerunner of academic exchanges, he promoted in − depth mathematical exchanges between China and foreign countries. He was honored with many awards, including the first Hua Luogeng Mathematics Prize. The research achievements in several complex variables, to which he contributed to the foundation and development, were listed by General Secretary Xi Jinping as important scientific achievements since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Throughout his life, he practiced the concepts of serving the country through science and devoting himself to educating people, composing an inspiring life movement of perseverance.

陆启铿(1927—2015)是中国多复变函数论研究和学科建设的主要开拓者,其在多复变函数论方面取得的研究成果曾领先西方10多年,受到国内外数学界的广泛赞誉(图1)。
中国的多复变函数论研究始于20世纪40年代华罗庚(1910—1985)的工作。陆启铿是华罗庚先生归国后的首批亲传弟子,是华罗庚学派的主要传承者之一。在华罗庚的带领下,陆启铿通过讨论班、授课等方式,培养起国内第一支多复变领域研究的基本队伍。之后,中国涌现出一大批优秀成果,得到国际数学界的普遍认可。
习近平总书记在2014年两院院士大会、2016年“科技三会”上的两次讲话中,将多复变函数论与“两弹一星”等列为新中国成立以来重要的科学成就[12]。这是党和国家领导人对华罗庚、陆启铿及其传承工作的高度肯定。
目前对于陆启铿的研究多聚焦于其学术成就的梳理与生平事迹的记载[34],而对他在推动学科发展、人才培养及国际交流方面的系统研究较少。本文拟对此开展研究,以期深化对中国多复变函数论发展历程的认识,并为理解科学家精神提供案例支撑。
1927年5月17日,陆启铿出生于广东佛山,幼时过继给二伯母,3岁时因病双腿落下终身残疾。几年后虽回到亲生父母身边,但因长时间离家加上身体残疾,亲情变得疏远,形成了他孤僻寡言的性格。1938年,陆启铿全家因躲避战乱仓促逃难到澳门,沦为难民。在贫病交加中陆启铿曾经萌生过自杀念头,在痛苦而漫长的日子里,陆启铿的舅舅偶然来访留下的一句话对他影响颇深:“你的A弦断了,但还有双手和头脑,应该用其他三弦把你的生命之曲奏完!”[3]于是他重振精神,开始练习用一双木拐走路,克服腋下被磨破的苦痛,慢慢地习惯了扶拐行走。从此他下定了求学成材的决心,借来全套课本开始自学,短短两年时间便系统自修完成从小学到初中的全部课程。1942年,陆启铿以同等学力考取澳门中山县联合中学高中部,后转入澳门中德中学学习。入学时,陆启铿获得“清贫奖学金”,后来又拿到数学奖学金、德文奖学金和全澳门国文比赛第3名。尤为难能可贵的是,虽身有残疾,但他在体育方面仍擅长游泳和单双杠项目。1945年,陆启铿以优异成绩顺利完成高中学业。
1946年秋季,陆启铿进入中山大学数学天文系学习。由于没有生活来源,入学不久便申请转为完全公费的师范生。陆启铿在大学期间,开始对函数论产生浓厚兴趣,毕业论文《似形表像及模函数》获得90的高分。1950年,陆启铿大学毕业,因品学兼优,留校任助教。同年,华罗庚应邀到中山大学做学术报告,陆启铿当面聆听数学大师的教诲后萌生追随之心,遂致信表达求学愿望。经数次书信往来,在华罗庚悉心关照下,1951年,陆启铿进入中国科学院数学研究所筹备处,正式成为华罗庚的学生。华罗庚以独特的“华氏”训练法培养他:令其研读德国数学家福尔特(Rudolf Fueter,1880—1950)的《模函数论》并定期报告,对报告中的错误即时指出,并追问详尽解答,直至论证严谨。尽管时常“挂”在黑板上下不了台,但陆启铿从中深刻体会到数学的严谨性,并逐步掌握了数学研究的基本方法。1954年,陆启铿正式发表了生平第一篇学术论文《t函数的富氏系数》,为其学术生涯奠定了良好开端。
20世纪50年代,华罗庚凭借敏锐的科学直觉,预判未来多复变函数论将会在工程与物理领域得到广泛应用。当时,国内在该领域的研究尚属空白,在学术研究“一定要找自己的方向”的理念指导下[5],华罗庚、陆启铿做了大量奠基性和开创性的工作,开始在中国创建多复变函数论学科。
国内多复变函数论的研究,以华罗庚构造典型域的完备标准正交系为起点。在华罗庚的建议下,1953年陆启铿完成了“多复变函数与酉几何”讲义的编写;并在此基础上,1954—1955年,陆启铿组织举行了中国科学院数学研究所(以下简称数学所)的第1个多复变函数论讨论班,由龚昇(1930—2011)、钟同德(1928—2025)等轮流进行报告,参加人员还有北京大学陈杰(1924—2005)、董怀允(1927—1966)等人[68]。据陆启铿记载:每次报告前,参与者需充分搜集资料、编写讲义,以使报告能够提纲挈领、抓住关键,从而提高效率、加速进度。讨论班的工作形式多样:有的以主讲人授课为主,学员课后自行组织反复钻研;有的在授课之外开展集体讨论;有的由参加者轮流报告;有的则将进程分为若干阶段,各阶段由不同人员分别报告[9]
1959年,受华罗庚委托,陆启铿来到北京大学,为高年级学生开办多复变函数论专门化的课程。陆启铿亲自负责教学,开授《多复变函数论引论》和《典型流形与典型域》两门课。尽管正值困难时期,果腹尚且不易,且陆启铿身有残疾,每次需骑三轮车去北京大学、撑着双拐上课,体力消耗极大,但他仍克服各种困难,坚持完成教学。班上共10名学生:钟家庆、殷慰萍、陈志华、孙继广、陈志鹤、曾宪立、文涛、石赫、王大明、王惠民。陆启铿指导了全部学生的毕业论文,课程于1962年7月结束[7]。由此,陆启铿为国内多复变函数论领域培养了一批研究人才。
随着多复变函数论学科的创建,十数年间,国内涌现出一大批优秀成果。华罗庚的“多复变数函数论中的典型域的调和分析”,华罗庚与陆启铿合作的“典型域上的调和函数论”,陆启铿的“Schwarz引理及其解析不变量”“关于常曲率的Kähler流形”,龚昇的“典型群的调和分析”“多复变数的奇异积分”等,均得到国际数学界的普遍认可。
1997年,丘成桐曾经说过:近20年来中国数学界基本上跟随外国的潮流;而华罗庚在多复变函数论方面的贡献真正实现了领先于世界水平,比西方至少早了10年[10]
在陆启铿早期的学术生涯中,多复变函数论是他的主攻方向。在协助华罗庚创建多复变函数论学科的同时,他自己也成果频出,最终奠定了一代多复变函数论国际大师的地位。
1958—1959年,华罗庚与陆启铿建立了典型域上的调和函数理论,两人合作完成文章“典型域上的调和函数论”[1113],发表在《数学学报》。这项研究解决了对应的拉普拉斯−贝尔特拉米方程的狄利克雷(Dirichlet)问题。同时,华罗庚发现了一组具有与调和算子有类似性质的微分算子,国际上称之为“华氏算子”[14]
1957—1958年,陆启铿发表一系列文章,证明了“Bergman度量下的Schwarz引理”,现在国际上称为“陆启铿引理”;并证明了多复变数空间中有界域的Caratheodory度量不可能大于Bergman度量,从而有了现在的“陆启铿常数”[7]。该项成果是陆启铿在多复变函数论领域首次得到国际数学界同行普遍认可的工作。
1961年,陆启铿和许以超发表文章《关于可递域的一个注记》,对“有界齐性域的曲率是非正”的华罗庚猜想给出了反例[15]
1962年,陆启铿发表文章“On a class of homogeneous complex manifolds”,构造了一类新的非紧齐次复流形,这些流形中的某些“超圆”解析等价于已知的非对称有界可递域,从而为研究这类域提供了新的几何视角[16]
经过多年积累,陆启铿厚积薄发,推出了“陆启铿定理”和“陆启铿猜想”。这是新中国成立后国际数学界首次以中国数学家命名的定理和猜想,也是陆启铿个人学术生涯的巅峰之作。
1966年,陆启铿用微分几何的方法对多复变数Bergman核展开研究,在《数学学报》发表论文“关于常曲率的Kähler流形”[17],随即被美国杂志《Chinese Mathematics》翻译转载[18]。这篇文章提出一个问题:何种类型的域的Bergman核函数没有零点?1969年,波兰数学家斯卡里津斯基(Skwarczyński)第1个把这个问题称为“陆启铿猜想”。如果一个域的Bergman核函数没有零点,则称这个域为“陆启铿域”[19]。1970年,格林尼(R.E. Greene)和伍鸿熙,克兰兹(S.G. Krantz)把此猜想修正为“有界的单连通的强拟凸域的伯格曼核函数没有零点”[4]
陆启铿在文中还推导出超球的特征性质,“具有全纯截曲率为常数的完备的伯格曼度量”,其中重要而有趣的是不要求D是单连通域,在以往该条件被认为是不可或缺的。这个定理后来被称为“陆启铿定理”。
“陆启铿猜想”的提出,引起许多数学家竞相去论证“陆启铿猜想”在哪些域成立。他们不断提出反例[2025],推动了多复变函数研究的发展。
陆启铿为了寻找多复变函数论的应用领域,开始跨界涉足理论物理领域并取得重要成果,其中,最引以为豪的是规范场与纤维丛的研究。
1972年,杨振宁(1922—2025)在北京大学做了题为“规范场的积分定义”的报告,最后提到国际上有种理论预言规范场可能与纤维丛有关。陆启铿觉察到,如果能对这个可能存在的关联性进行求证,会极大地拓展多复变函数论的应用领域。
由定域规范变换下不变性所要求存在的场,称为规范场(gauge field)。杨振宁的规范场理论,是把4种已知的相互作用——电磁相互作用、弱相互作用、强相互作用和引力相互作用,都用规范变换的对称原理推导出来。
“纤维丛”是拓扑学中的一种理论。把微分流形及以其上每点为原点的线性独立的切向量组全体总括在一起得到纤维丛的概念,在李群及齐性空间、覆盖空间及一般的向量丛等数学方向上都有应用。
陆启铿对规范场的积分定义与纤维丛的关联性问题展开了深入的研究。他先从纤维丛理论入手,经过认真演绎和推理,最后确定规范场论就是纤维丛上的联络论。对比规范场“积分方法”定义,则是李希纳罗维兹(A. Lichnerowicz,1915—1998)的联络定义中,当结构群是矩阵李群的特殊情形。当规范场(联络)是黎曼流形的黎曼联络时,平行移动本身就是一个规范场。
根据这样的观点,陆启铿在1972年率先指出了规范理论和纤维丛联络论之间的联系,证明了物理上“积分方法”定义的规范场等价于数学上沿一条曲线的平行移动,明确给出规范理论中的物理名词与纤维丛联络论中的数学名词的对应关系。简单来说,规范场就是联络,规范场的积分定义相当于用平行移动来定义的联络。
为了能让更多人了解该项成果,陆启铿组织了专门的讨论班,手写了一份“纤维丛与规范场”的讲义。讲义从介绍微分流形、李群的基本知识开始,把流形定义为很多块欧氏空间的开集以某种方式连接起来,而连接的方式就确定这是什么样的流形[3]
这是陆启铿在数学物理方面的一项重要成果。1990年,在中国高等科学技术中心的一次学术报告会上,物理学家侯伯宇(1930—2010)在规范场理论中引入纤维丛的概念,评价说“奠基人是陆启铿”[4]
受“文化大革命”影响,对外交流基本中断,数学研究和学科发展处于停滞状态,整体水平和国外先进国家的差距越来越大。改革开放之后陆启铿第一次走出国门,赴美国访学。
1979年,有感于陆启铿在多复变函数论的重要成就,美国加州大学伯克利分校数学系主任小林昭七(S. Kobayashi,1932—2012)邀请陆启铿赴美访学。陆启铿在此处停留了3个月,期间每周有2天去斯坦福大学参加萧荫堂的讨论班[3]
通过出国访问,陆启铿开始了解国际上数学领域最新发展动向,随后他多次赴外,进行深入的学术交流。美国的普林斯顿高等研究院、德国的马克斯•普朗克数学研究所、瑞典的米塔−列夫勒研究所、意大利的国际理论物理中心和比萨高等师范学校、苏联科学院的斯捷克洛夫数学研究所、日本的京都大学数理解析研究所等科研机构都留下他进行学术交流和科学研究的足迹。
1988年,陆启铿受所长弗拉吉米洛夫(V.S. Vladimirov,1923—2012)的邀请,来到苏联科学院的斯捷克洛夫数学研究所访问,并做了题为“典型域的热核”的报告,这个时期,陆启铿的兴趣主要在典型域的格林核、热核的构造研究。报告之后,基于“未来光锥域”正是典型域中第Ⅳ类域,弗拉吉米洛夫当众向陆启铿提出一个“扩充未来光锥管域”是否是全纯域的问题,他认为最有可能解决此问题的就是华罗庚学派传人。陆启铿把这个课题带回国内,最终使这个预测成为现实。
随着对国际数学领域发展状态的了解,陆启铿深切感受到国内数学领域与国际先进水平的巨大差距。于是陆启铿邀请大批数学家来数学所讲学,不仅有华裔数学家,还有国际知名数学家和研究机构负责人,真正落实了“开放办所”的方针。
1980年,陆启铿担任数学所常务副所长。为了不让学术交流流于形式,他要求每位学者到数学所访问期间,除了交流国际上数学领域的最新动态和本人的学术成就,还要系统地讲授一门专业课。
效果立竿见影。萧荫堂第一次来华讲学,学术交流之余,主授现代多复变函数理论,课程从研究生基础一直讲到现代数学,成为非常系统的一门课。这次授课的讲义经钟家庆(1937—1987)和陈志华整理,结集出版了教材《多复变函数论》,成为经典教科书。
陆启铿除了自己在数学领域勤耕不辍,从创建多复变函数论学科开始,在人才的培养上倾注了大量心血。陆启铿尤其重视研究生的培养,认为研究生的培养是学术传承的关键,优秀的研究生或者是优秀研究生组成的团队将会带来学术研究的连续性和学科的发展光大。他的教学工作从北京大学开办多复变专门化开始,培养出一批从事多复变研究的基础人才。
1959年,陆汝钤从德国耶拿大学留学回国后,在陆启铿指导下研究多复变函数论,很快取得成果,发表了论文[26]。虽然后来陆汝钤转行从事人工智能的研究,并成为中国科学院院士,但一直感谢陆启铿作为导师在如何开展科学研究上对他的影响。
1962年,华罗庚招收了3名研究生,由陆启铿具体指导钟家庆。在他的指导下,钟家庆成绩突出,20世纪80年代以后重磅成果频出,只是不幸盛年早逝,令人唏嘘[27]。1977年底,国家决定恢复研究生制度,数学所委托陆启铿负责招生事宜。陆启铿费尽心力,圆满完成招生工作。为了教学相长,他提出建议并得到实行,副研究员以上必须在研究生院讲授一门课。函数论、值分布论由杨乐(1939—2023)、张广厚(1937—1987)讲授,彭桓武(1915—2007,时任中国科学院理论物理所所长)讲授电动力学,吴文俊(1919—2017)讲授几何基础,陆启铿讲授微分几何,钟家庆讲授多复变函数分析。在这些大师级科学家的悉心培育下,学生收获很大,为今后在数学领域的科学研究打下雄厚基础。
由于身患残疾,陆启铿长期以惊人的毅力坚持为研究生授课,付出的辛苦远超常人。他共培养了30余名学生。学生大多学有所成,在学术领域取得了骄人成绩,成为多个学术方向的领军人物,可谓桃李满天下。
周向宇是其中的佼佼者,也是华罗庚学派传人中的典型。陆启铿把弗拉吉米洛夫提出的“扩充未来光锥管域”带回国内后,组织讨论班专攻这个课题。
1998年前后,周向宇取得重大突破,证明了“扩充未来光管是全纯域”的猜想。周向宇的这项工作被瑞典皇家科学院引用,并被称之为20世纪下半叶数学发展的“亮点之一”[28]。周向宇应邀在2002年国际数学家大会上做45 min报告,是当时国内最年轻的一位应邀报告人。2013年周向宇当选为中国科学院院士。
陆启铿贡献卓著,享誉国际。他在1980年当选中国科学院学部委员(后改称中国科学院院士)。1987年,以研究成果“典型流形与典型域”获国家自然科学三等奖。1992年,以多复变函数论方面的杰出研究,获得首届“华罗庚数学奖”。2001年,获得何梁何利基金科学与技术进步奖的“数学力学奖”。
陆启铿的一生,深度参与了中国多复变函数论学科从无到有、从国内走向国际的全过程。在华罗庚的引领下,他不仅以“陆启铿猜想”赢得国际声誉,更积极推动多复变与数学物理的交叉研究。作为学科开拓者,他为中国多复变领域的人才建设和可持续发展奠定了坚实基础,提升了中国数学的国际地位。
陆启铿先生身残志坚,以超常的毅力探求科学真理,用坚定的信念书写人生。他的成长经历告诉我们:科学的突破不仅源于天赋与机遇,更根植于逆境中不灭的求知热忱与对真理的执着坚守。他所体现的坚韧不拔、志存高远、严谨求实的精神,既是中国数学界的宝贵财富,也为后世学人树立了光辉典范。
