长期以来,学界通常认为稻田释放的N2主要来自当季施入的化肥氮。中国科学院南京土壤研究所颜晓元团队,通过原位15N同位素示踪与膜进样质谱技术,在完整水稻生长季尺度上直接追踪稻田N2、氨气(NH3)和氧化亚氮(N2O)的来源。结果显示,稻田释放的N2中有72%~75% 实际来自土壤有机氮,而不是当季化肥氮。这一发现修正了以往对稻田氮损失来源的理解,也提示全球氮循环模型和农业减排核算需要重新校准。2026年4月22日,相关研究成果于美国国家科学院院刊《Proceedings of the NationalAcademy of Sciences of the United States of America》(《PNAS》)。
研究团队据此提出“微生物氮泵”机制。简单说,化肥氮并不一定直接“变成”排放到大气中的N2,而更像是启动土壤微生物活动的开关。当尿素或铵态氮进入稻田后,微生物迅速利用这些易获得氮源,但为了维持自身碳氮比平衡,它们会加速分解土壤有机质以获取碳源。在这一过程中,土壤有机氮被同步释放出来,并进一步经硝化—反硝化过程转化为N2排出。也就是说,化肥输入可能通过激活微生物代谢,把土壤中多年积累的“老氮”不断“泵”向大气。
这一过程还与水稻根系活动密切相关。虽然稻田整体处于受淹缺氧环境,但水稻根系可通过通气组织向根际释放氧气,形成局部“氧气岛”。在这些微环境中,铵态氮先被硝化为硝态氮,再扩散到周围厌氧区域,被反硝化微生物还原为N2。由此,根系、微生物、土壤有机质和外源氮肥共同构成了受淹稻田中复杂的氮转化网络。
研究还发现,不同水稻品种对这一“氮泵”效应具有明显调节作用。与常规粳稻相比,杂交水稻在提高产量的同时,可显著降低单位产量气态氮损失。其原因可能在于,杂交水稻根系吸收能力更强,能够更快固定化肥氮,缩短肥料氮激发微生物氮泵的时间窗口;同时,根际环境的改善也有助于提高微生物氮利用效率,减少土壤有机氮被过度矿化和排放。
这项研究的意义不仅在于解释了稻田氮素“去了哪里”,也为农业减排提供了新靶点。过去的氮肥管理往往侧重“少施肥、减投入”,而“微生物氮泵”机制提示,稳定土壤有机氮库、优化水稻品种、调控根际微生物过程,同样是减少氮损失的重要方向。
