Leveraging its evolutionary capacity that surpasses biological intelligence, digital intelligence has irreversibly upended the traditional human–machine dynamic. Re–examining the fundamental relationship between humans and technology has become a philosophical imperative concerning humanity's own future. This paper traces the semantic origins of the Chinese term "She Ji" (design) and establishes a four–quadrant interactive framework grounded in the dialectical unity of "She"—which pertains to language and action—and "Ji"—which pertains to calculation and strategy. This framework is used to analyze design opportunities following the systematic "colonization" of creative fields by artificial intelligence: while AI has gained an absolute advantage in the domains of calculation and language, the unique value of humanity is embodied in action and strategy—encompassing emotional interaction, embodied experience, cultural strategy, and order construction. Confronted with this landscape, the mission of design has ascended from creating objects to reshaping the relationships and order of human–machine symbiosis. The core of future design lies in leveraging intelligent systems to their fullest while constructing a new value compass and civilizational compact, integrating the four domains of "Suan" (calculation), "Yan" (language), "Yi" (action), and "Ce" (strategy), to achieve a paradigm shift from goal attainment to order creation. This constitutes not only a practical pathway for human–machine collaboration but also points toward the construction of a new form of civilization—in this profound transformation, design can assume the role of "relationship architect" proactively, establishing sustainable principles for coexistence on a dual–track future.

数字智能凭借其超越生物智能的进化能力,已不可逆转地颠覆传统人机格局。重新审视人类与技术的根本关系成为人类关于自生未来的哲学命题。通过追溯中文“设计”的语义本源,建立了一个基于关乎语言与行动的“设”,以及关乎计算和策略的“计”的四域交互框架,用以剖析人工智能对创意领域系统性“殖民”下的设计机会:人工智能在“算”和“言”领域已逐渐占据优势,而人类的独特价值则凝结于“役”与“策”领域的情感交互、具身体验、文化策略与秩序构建之中。面对这一格局,设计的使命已从创造物品升维至重塑人机共生的关系与秩序。未来设计的核心在于,在充分利用智能系统的同时,构建新型价值罗盘与文明契约,贯通“算、言、役、策”四域,实现从目标达成到秩序创造的范式跃迁。这不仅是人机共协的实践路径,更指向一种新文明形态的建构——在这场深刻变革中,设计应该主动承担“关系架构师”的角色,为双轨并进的未来确立可持续的共存法则。

数字智能凭借其超越生物智能的进化能力,已不可逆转地颠覆传统人机格局。重新审视人类与技术的根本关系成为人类关于自生未来的哲学命题。通过追溯中文“设计”的语义本源,建立了一个基于关乎语言与行动的“设”,以及关乎计算和策略的“计”的四域交互框架,用以剖析人工智能对创意领域系统性“殖民”下的设计机会:人工智能在“算”和“言”领域已逐渐占据优势,而人类的独特价值则凝结于“役”与“策”领域的情感交互、具身体验、文化策略与秩序构建之中。面对这一格局,设计的使命已从创造物品升维至重塑人机共生的关系与秩序。未来设计的核心在于,在充分利用智能系统的同时,构建新型价值罗盘与文明契约,贯通“算、言、役、策”四域,实现从目标达成到秩序创造的范式跃迁。这不仅是人机共协的实践路径,更指向一种新文明形态的建构——在这场深刻变革中,设计应该主动承担“关系架构师”的角色,为双轨并进的未来确立可持续的共存法则。

Leveraging its evolutionary capacity that surpasses biological intelligence, digital intelligence has irreversibly upended the traditional human–machine dynamic. Re–examining the fundamental relationship between humans and technology has become a philosophical imperative concerning humanity's own future. This paper traces the semantic origins of the Chinese term "She Ji" (design) and establishes a four–quadrant interactive framework grounded in the dialectical unity of "She"—which pertains to language and action—and "Ji"—which pertains to calculation and strategy. This framework is used to analyze design opportunities following the systematic "colonization" of creative fields by artificial intelligence: while AI has gained an absolute advantage in the domains of calculation and language, the unique value of humanity is embodied in action and strategy—encompassing emotional interaction, embodied experience, cultural strategy, and order construction. Confronted with this landscape, the mission of design has ascended from creating objects to reshaping the relationships and order of human–machine symbiosis. The core of future design lies in leveraging intelligent systems to their fullest while constructing a new value compass and civilizational compact, integrating the four domains of "Suan" (calculation), "Yan" (language), "Yi" (action), and "Ce" (strategy), to achieve a paradigm shift from goal attainment to order creation. This constitutes not only a practical pathway for human–machine collaboration but also points toward the construction of a new form of civilization—in this profound transformation, design can assume the role of "relationship architect" proactively, establishing sustainable principles for coexistence on a dual–track future.

人类又一次站在一个历史性的技术拐点上——人工智能正以前所未有的速度重新定义人类与技术的关系。杰弗里·辛顿(Geoffrey Hinton)在2025世界人工智能大会的主题演讲“数字智能是否会取代生物智能”(Will digital intelligence replace biological intelligence)中发出警示:数字智能凭借知识永久保存、无限复制,以及群体智能超速进化的能力远超生物智能,正不可逆转地颠覆传统人机格局。他用“养老虎”的隐喻揭示核心矛盾:“我们正在创造比自己更聪明的存在,且这一过程已不可逆转”[1]。更严峻的是,智能体可能发展出自主意识与生存本能,使其从工具蜕变为新智慧物种。尽管人类可以“非生命体”为由拒绝承认其权利,但生命科学的突破使机器获得生物特性仅剩“一层纸的距离”。娄永琪在2015年国际计算机学会(Association of Computing Machinery,ACM)CHI(Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems)会议主旨演讲中预见的“人机协商政治”场景[2],正以超乎预期的速度成为现实命题。
人机关系的革命性重塑已经迫在眉睫。对人类而言,必须超越作为“情感数据提供者”,甚至是“人工智能(artificial intelligence,AI)探触世界的传感器”的角色,成为与人工智能共同进化的创造性伙伴。那些深植于人类文化的感性认知、意义创造与不可量化的文明遗产,恰是人机关系中最珍贵的价值锚点。人类迫切需要在自然、人类、人造物、赛博系统4个系统交互的场域[3]中审视并重塑人机关系。这种关系的重塑,本身就是一项复杂社会–技术系统设计,不仅要设定各方角色及其关系,更要建立互动的原则与协议;而是否有助于实现该复合系统可持续发展的动态平衡,可能是对各种交互进行设计并判断其价值的准则。
为了更好地理解AI对设计的影响,有必要对中文的“设计”进行一次语义溯源。中文“设计”一词由“设”与“计”2个字复合而成,其内涵与古代的军事谋略有着深刻渊源。
设:施陈也,从言役(《说文解字》)。“设”包含“言”(言语和沟通)与“役”(即人拿着工具,执行任务)的双重维度,体现了思想与执行的统一。
计:会算也,从言十(《说文解字》)。“计”包含“策”(目标设定与过程制导)与“算”(精密计算)的双重能力,强调理性分析与目标导向的思维特征。
因此,“设计”本质上是一种人为的筹划活动,具有“人为设定,先行计算,预估达成”的核心特征。它既包含前瞻性的目标预设,也包含实施中的过程制导,需要介入特定情境以改变它,是思想与行动、理性与创意的辩证统一[4]
基于以上对“设计”的语义解构,可以建立一个阐释性的四域交互框架(图1)。从左上到右下是“设”的维度:从“言”(言语表达、符号操作)到“役”(行动执行、身体实践)。从左下到右上是“计”的维度:从“算”(精密计算、数据分析)到“策”(目标设定、过程制导)。这个框架揭示了设计活动中的2组基本关系:在“设”的维度上,是概念生成与行动实践的张力;在“计”的维度上,是目标设定与谋划计算的张力。
21世纪以来,随着人类科技的突飞猛进,“设”和“计”的主体、客体、方式、形态与角色都发生了前所未有的剧变,但透过现象看本质,设计本源是:与“设定且创造性地实现目标”相关的谋划、计算与组织实践。“设计”不是一个结果,而是因势利导,设定、调整和实现目标的动态过程。因此,设计不仅包括“言”“役”“算”“策”四域,更包括这四域间的各种交互。
进入以数据、算力和算法为标志的数字时代后,人工智能在某些领域展现出压倒性的优势,正在迅速侵入传统创意设计的核心领域。这是哈贝马斯[5]所描述的“系统”对“生活世界”殖民的又一个生动写照。其中,最先面临挑战的是代表技术理性的“算”这个象限。目前基本可以说已经被AI占领。而作为传统信息和意义载体的“言”这一象限,情况也没有好到哪里去。从设计角度看,无论是设计概念、设计语言,还是设计风格,只要涉及规律性、重复性和可计算的内容,AI往往都可以做得更快、更好。相对而言,在“役”和“策”这2个象限,AI创意和人类创意还各擅胜场,凸显出人类设计的不可替代价值。例如,(1) 高情感交互构建:洞察人类情感需求的深度,以及设计具身化交互解决方案的能力,体现了AI难以复制的“血肉的温度”。(2) 体验设计的具身性:有意义的体验是在人类基于身体与环境进行有机互动过程中获得的,不是割裂的认知(运算)、感觉和意义,而是统一体[6]。因此,要模拟人类设计师基于身体经验和情感共鸣生成有良好体验的设计,AI仍面临根本局限。(3) 文化的策略性干预:在目标设定与过程制导层面,人类设计师展现出对文化语境的深刻理解与策略性干预能力,这种文化转译与社会创新的能力依赖于人类特有的意义建构智慧。(4) 人类与AI互协的机制、规则和环境的构建:这牵涉到对世界的掌控权问题,人类不会也不应该轻易放弃。图2展示了AI在设计四域中不同程度的优势“领地”。
设计作为人类一切创造性实践的先导和准备[7],以其与生俱来的乐观特质,有希望成为穿透辛顿悲观迷雾的火把。设计是人类核心价值和能力的重要体现,在AI时代讨论重塑人机关系与设计,不仅仅关乎设计,更关乎人类能否有尊严地与AI共处,以及将会以何种姿态与AI共处的大问题。
在一个平等的开放关系中,共存的一个重要的前提是彼此之间能提供价值。人类能给世界的最大的价值是关乎于“意义制造”。而“意义”本质上蕴含在人的切身经验之中,具有高度关联性,是人的生活世界的产物[8]。机器可以通过算法认识自然或社会事物,能够为事物赋予“识别标签”,并利用符号系统对数据进行表征、处理与传播。但这种识别属于计算机的模式识别和表征机制,它传递的是机器语言的认知、信息和标签,而非人类所特有的、整合经验与价值的“意义”建构。
而在基于生活世界的交往互动中,人类的感性、非理性、不确定性恰恰构成意义创造的稀缺价值。“人在环路”确保的是人可以参与、监督、协同智能系统,使得这个系统往人所希望的方向发展:只有经过了“入脑”“进心”“力行”等人类参与后被经验情境封装的数据,才更有价值,就好比经过雪莉桶的威士忌才有了灵魂。同时,要贯通和链接“言”“役”“算”“策”四域,需要全新的系统性设计路径。设计路径整体包括目标预设的伦理性、朝向预设目标的“策略”和“行动”,以及四域之间的动态交互关系。
作为现实,人类已经无法回避AI,而必须选择与之共存。对设计而言,有了AI的设计,以及设计AI本身以确保人类的可持续福祉,就成为设计的新特征、新对象和新使命。辛顿期待的“好AI”不会从技术主义中自然生长,而必须有意识地被设计成形。构建“善良智能系统”及其交互准则,需要综合运用四域要素,其终极目标仍是“设计更好的社会”。当然,关于“好社会”的想象,东西方文化存在深层差异,但这个差异可通过设计思辨、价值重构、协同共创、社会创新等方式进行充分沟通和协商。
除了辛顿提醒的AI潜在威胁,对人类而言,更为实在的威胁是环境容量天花板正在持续挤压人类的生存和发展空间。生态危机是人类以产业化方式攫取地球资源所造成的结果。要实现可持续转型,就必须找到一种在速度、规模与力度上可与当年造成破坏的工业革命相匹敌的修复方式。因此,我们必须改变人类活动,并创造更快速度、更大规模、更强力度的修复性产业和经济——这就是所谓的“修地球的经济”[9]。比工具更重要的是目标的设定和路径的选择。上述各种AI赋能的可持续发展场景,本身就是需要被“设计”出来的。
哪里有问题,哪里就需要设计。在可见的未来,除了设计AI系统和AI赋能的可持续经济外,人类大量的现有问题都会被AI赋能的设计重新思考和解决一遍。从人工智能逐渐侵蚀之前人类主导的设计领域的叙事看,在“算–言–役–策”四域中,存在着一个AI优势由强到弱的先后层级;同时,从每个具体的领域看,也存在着由易到难的层级。这就好像战争中修筑“工事”一样,每个阵地的“工事”后面是要坚守和保护的空间。从全局看,越往后的工事,离需要保护的对象越近,也往往意味着越顽强的抵抗。因此,可以暂且用“设计‘工事’层级”这个术语来描述这种关系。总体而言,人类主导的设计机会将会向四域框架各个领域的右上区域集聚——那些需要人为判断、具身行动、文化策略、情感共鸣的设计领域将成为人的擅长,也将成为未来人和机器共协最重要的领域。从更长远看,21世纪的设计挑战中,如何确定一个未来人类与人工智能共生共协的秩序,将会成为越来越重要的问题——这不仅关乎设计未来,更关乎人类的生存(图3)。
1) 隐性设计知识的学习和调用。尽管在“算”和“言”这2个领域,机器已经大显身手,但人类创意仍有可以负隅顽抗的资本。在“算”的领域,相对于单纯的计算,机器要实现通过模拟进行精准预测的“推演”,门槛显然要高很多。但不管多难,这个领域迟早还会沦陷。
在“言”这个领域,相较于语言,格式塔(形式)因牵涉更综合的审美,对AI而言相对更难掌握。但无论是设计语言还是形式,那些容易被规律化、类型化、流程化、标准化的设计知识已经较好地被人工智能掌握了。但设计包含大量的隐性知识,它们还无法被机器学习和理解。机器甚至分不清楚这部分知识或经历与最终设计产出的关系。在加里·哈斯特维特(Gary Hustwit)拍摄的纪录片《工业设计面面观》(《Objectified》)中,日本著名工业设计师深泽直人(Naoto Fukasawa)回忆了童年母亲教他削土豆的经历,作为一款手机形态设计最重要的灵感来源。但如果是一个普通人的削土豆的经历,大概率会因为没有相关性而被算法过滤掉。未来,在语言和行动的链接和相互作用(言&役)、语言到策略的相互转译(言&策)、设计知识,特别是隐性设计知识的语料化和可计算化(言&算)等领域,是设计人工智能、人机共协研究和产业创新的重要机会。
2) 多模态设计行动与沟通共协。“役”表示任务的执行,是目前AI介入设计的短板之一。如何将AI指令,或者基于机器学习的策略,转变为达成目标的“行动”,组织、调动真实世界要素的部署,仍是一个不小的挑战。当下的主流AI设计产品,都停留在创意生成阶段。不管是文生文、文生图、文生视频、文生策略,都是停留在“平面化”阶段的方案。目前最为流行的大部分智能体,也都是以软件、小程序的方式出现的,它们取代的是人类的脑力劳动中最耗体力的部分。与此同时,另一个领域,就是拥有具身特征的智能体,如以各种形式出现的机器人系统正在不断地被开发出来并通过丰富的动作(操控机械臂、运行代码)和观察(传感器数据、界面监测)与世界互动。
但一个设计,从概念到实施,中间还隔着判断、决策、部署,以及与人类系统、人造物系统、赛博系统和自然系统对接的诸多环节。AI完成创意,进而驱动机器或智能体来执行指令相对容易,但要对接人类系统、获得信任并与之共协,就困难得多。将人“工具化”的泰勒主义是行不通的。要真正驱动人类系统自主有效地开展与人造物、赛博和自然系统的可持续交互,也必然要用人类可以理解且愿意的方式进行,不管这是基于理性还是感性的原因。
3) 意义创造和范式转型。从图3可以看到,在“役”的领域中,比单纯“执行”更为困难的是创造意义的行动。娄永琪[9]在《AIGC时代人类的创意》一文中举了安迪·沃霍尔(Andy Warhol)、斯托克豪森(Karlheinz Stockhausen)、坂本龙一(Ryuichi Sakamoto)等不少案例来说明人类正是通过重新定义“意义”来不断实现创意的推陈出新。那些可以用“品味”“另类”“先锋”“调性”“深刻”等词语形容的不可名状的创意选择,或许正是人类创造力最为高级的体现。相对于个体创意,AI能否真正进入人类创意的深水区,取决于它能否在社会创新层面进行意义创造。在一个更大的场景中,当设计由个体的、专业的创意,拓展到曼奇尼(Ezio Manzini)所说的社会的、日常生活的创意[10],沟通和信任的挑战会更大。如何共享一个愿景、如何共同形成一种文化、如何和而不同地推动一个改变、如何平衡系统目标和所有参与者的小确幸,将是人机共协的智能系统必须回答的难题。同时,AI在知识和智能扩展上的速度与人类在意义创造上的速度存在差异,如何保持中庸式的动态平衡,也需深入讨论。
借用托马斯·库恩(Thomas Kuhn)在《科学革命的结构》(《The Structure of Scientific Revolutions》)中提出的范式理论[11],本文讨论的范式转型,并不仅仅是一种技术压倒另外一种技术,更为重要的是这种胜利获得了社会的响应和广泛接受。因此,从技术范式朝向人机共生、共融范式的跃迁,是一个以社会关系重构为核心的社会–技术系统转型,其中更为本质的是社会转型。在此过程中,如何放大设计作为社会转型催化剂的新价值,并善用AI,去突破沟通、协同、行动的可持续问题,实现“自上而下”和“自下而上”相结合的社会创新,是一个长久的设计挑战。
4) 从实现目标到创造秩序。在“算”“言”“役”“策”四域中,哪个领域可能是人类最后的堡垒:到底是“役”中高阶的意义创造,还是“策”中更高阶的秩序创造部分?本文的选择是后者。因为意义创造的极致,至多也只能达到形成人类的文化和文明,而文化和文明既不能保证自身的生存(文化凋敝、文明湮没在人类历史上屡见不鲜),更不能保证人类的生存。如果说“设计”是人类不被毁灭的第3种智慧[12],最重要的,还是要有一个更高明的“计”。与达成目标——即帕森斯(Talcott Parsons)所说的“达鹄”(Goal Attainment)[13]——相比,秩序创造,也就是创造一种更持久的道统、态势、机制、环境和条件更为重要!就像《孙子》中讲到,战争中更高维的境界是“克己为本、胜败在心”“师出有名,则无往不利”“不战而屈人之兵”[14]
人工智能是赛博系统中的新事物,但近5年的超常发展,已经预示它有可能像人类一样,通过环境体验和成长中获得“成长的智慧”[15],这种速度要远远超过人类知识获取和悟性进化的速度。从这个意义上而言,人工智能逐步取得之前由人类专属的改造世界的自主决策权,或许只是时间问题。但是,它如何与在同样环境中成长的人类开展更具善意、更有意义、更高效能的交互,并在此基础上实现人类能力的开发和提升,才是人类希望的向善型人机共协的关键。
值得警惕的是,这种状态的到来不可能是放任自流、自然演进的结果,而是人类必须主动争取、主动设计[16]的权利。为了让这个人机共协系统可靠且安全,不仅必须攻克人工智能与人类系统结合的方式、场景及技术支持等难点,更重要的是,必须设计一种人机交互的道统、态势、法理、文化、环境、机制,即“策”中高等级的“秩序”,以确保所有人机交互均遵循“共生、共协”的最高原则运作。在这个秩序里可能包括:平等有效沟通,划定共存边界,互不伤害和促进成长,逐步提高信任,尊重可持续发展,“修地球”和“修人心” [17]的结合等。不仅是世界这个大系统的设计应当如此,每个微观层面的小交互的集合也同样需要指向这些目标。
面对人工智能化(AI自主化)与智能增强(以人为本)双轨并进的未来技术图景,设计应该主动承担“关系架构师”的使命。在交互层,需要创造全新的“人–赛博系统–人造物系统–自然系统”的全新交互形式、界面和操作系统;在伦理意义层,要建立正确的价值罗盘守护人类存在的根基;在秩序层,则须创造共生共协的文明契约和行动规则。如何在既充分利用智能系统来从事诸多人所不欲或人所不能的工作,又能守护“人之为人”根本的前提下,建立起一种新的价值、伦理和契约框架,以及相关的“社会–技术”体系,这将是一次人工智能时代具有“范式转型”意义的社会创新。它不仅为人机共协的思维、方法、工具的研究和开发提供了一个巨大的应用场景,甚至将催生一种全新的文明形态——人机共协的文明。因为这场深刻技术变革的本质,从来不是工具的重塑,而是人类文明与机器文明的主从关系及如何共生的命题!
