科学家绘制出了小鼠视觉皮层部分区域约8万个神经元的连接图谱，并通过将这些连接数据与神经元活动相关联，重建了该脑区细胞处理视觉信号的机制。这项迄今为止最详细的连接图谱，为研究大脑的认知与行为机制提供了全新资源，相关成果以10篇系列论文的形式发表于2025年4月9号的《Nature》系列期刊上。“皮质网络机器智能”（Machine Intelligence from Cortical Networks）项目研究人员通过在跑步机上播放影片，观察并记录了小鼠的单个神经元活动，随后对小鼠大脑进行了数千层超薄切片成像。早期发现包括新型神经元和活动模式。此外，研究人员还利用人工智能预测神经元对特定刺激的反应。人工智能的使用可以帮助突破动物活体实验限制，实现更广范围的视觉信息输入研究。为了研究完整的神经回路，突破当前1mm³的脑区研究范围，还需要绘制更加精确的大脑图谱。
