The Tibetan Plateau is an ideal experimental site for the study of the continent-continent collision, the orogeny, the crustal thickening mechanism and other basic theoretical problems of continental dynamics. Based on the results of three major projects carried out by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and other related researches, this paper reviews the research progress from fifteen aspects and pinpoints some scientific problems to be further explored.
