According to the characteristics and requirements of the optimization task with the geometry modeling link, a parametric modeling method based on secondary development of UG is proposed. A model-updating program is developed with UG/Open API external mode and MFC. A new geometry model is created by modifying the expressions and updating model of the template file with external parameters, and the necessary characteristic geometric parameters are exported. The program can be run independently without UG environment and integrated in a third-party optimization platform, with the analysis process in the optimization task as a black box, the design parameters as input data and the geometrical model and characteristic geometric parameters as output data. The example shows that the method and the program can effectively applied to engineering optimization design.     In engineering design problems involving the geometrical model optimization, the current two methods used in the parametric modeling suffer some drawbacks in the process of automation and complex geometry treatment.
