A single dominant gene is identified in the R10 differential where the P. infestans isolate 89148-9 is avirulent. Six markers linked to R10 are developed using a combined strategy of comparative genomics and bulked segregant analysis. R10 resides between the two PCR markers 1001T and C2_At5g59960 that define a genetic interval of 2.6 cM, telomeric to the cloned R3a gene.     Late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans is the most destructive disease for potato. The R10 gene for resisting potato late blight has a broad resistance spectrum and is widely used in breeding programs. R10, like R3a cloned, is a member of major late blight resistance complex and locates on the short arm of chromosome 11. A segregating population of 195 genotypes is inoculated and analyzed.
