    要实现聚变点火,必须同时满足密度、温度和能量约束时间三重乘积要求。其中,聚变输出功率与等离子体密度的平方成正比。这使得在保持稳定的前提下提高密度,成为实现聚变点火和能量增益的最有效路径之一。但在过去数10年实验中,托卡马克普遍受到“密度极限”的制约:一旦等离子体密度超过某一临界值,边界区不稳定性迅速增强,最终引发等离子体破裂,威胁装置安全运行。
    长期以来,国际聚变界通常采用经验性的“格林沃尔德密度极限”来描述这一约束,但该定标律缺乏明确的物理机理解释。针对这一关键瓶颈,研究团队提出并发展了边界等离子体与壁相互作用自组织(PWSO)理论模型。该模型指出,密度极限的本质并非单纯的磁流体不稳定性,而是一个涉及“热-辐射”反馈机制的系统性失稳。当等离子体边缘的杂质辐射增长速度超过了输入功率的补充速度,系统就会失去平衡,引发辐射塌缩,表现为传统意义上的密度极限。
    更为关键的是,该理论预测在托卡马克的运行状态空间中,除传统的“密度受限区”外,还存在一个此前未被实验证实的“密度自由区”。进入该区域的前提在于有效抑制边界杂质的产生,使辐射反馈回路被切断,从而使等离子体密度不再受经验极限约束。
    依托EAST装置全钨偏滤器和全金属壁结构的硬件优势,研究团队在实验中精准调控边界等离子体条件。通过电子回旋共振加热与高预充气压力协同启动等手段,成功降低了偏滤器靶板附近的等离子体温度,使其低于钨材料发生物理溅射的能量阈值,从源头上抑制了杂质进入等离子体。实验观测到的等离子体行为与PWSO理论的预测高度一致。
    这一突破意味着,未来的聚变堆设计有望彻底摆脱“密度紧箍咒”。通过优化启动策略和壁条件控制,人类可以在不主动注入杂质的情况下,实现高密度、高增益的稳态运行。
