In recent years, advancements in energy density, charging speed, and lifespan have been achieved in traction batteries through material innovation, structural optimization, and management system upgrades. However, the safety design of traction batteries adopting new technologies remains a critical challenge, particularly in addressing risks associated with fast charging, bottom impacts, and thermal events. This paper systematically reviews key innovation directions in traction battery technology, including structural design and chemical system upgrades, while conducting analysis on corresponding safety enhancement strategies derived from these technological breakthroughs. From a testing and evaluation perspective, it explores frontier safety issues such as fast charging, bottom impact, and thermal propagation behaviors. A multi?level safety evaluation framework for traction batteries across their lifecycle was proposed, integrating experimental and simulation approaches. This study provides theoretical support and practical recommendations for advancing traction battery technology and optimizing testing and evaluation methods.
