In this paper, the research process of alicyclic polyimides (Al-PIs) at home and abroad in recent years was reviewed, and the synthesis of typical monomers and polymers were described from the historical evolution perspective mainly. The applications of alicyclic polyimides in transparent flexible display, gas separation membrane, photosensitive material, and liquid crystal orientation membrane were discussed, and the development trend and application prospect of alicyclic polyimides were prospected.

聚酰亚胺(polyimides,PI)是一类具有多个酰亚胺五元杂环的高性能聚合物,由于具有独特的电化学性能、耐辐射、耐化学腐蚀、优异的力学性能等性质,被广泛应用于航空航天、电子电器、气体分离、燃料电池、光学、生物医学、传感器等领域[1-2]。尽管聚酰亚胺具有较长的研究历史,近年来相关领域仍有较高的研究热度,发表的相关文献数量逐年增加,如图1所示。
聚酰亚胺一般是由二胺和二酐单体聚合而成,根据主链结构中是否含有苯环,可将聚酰亚胺分为芳香族聚酰亚胺和非芳香族聚酰亚胺,其中非芳香族聚酰亚胺又包括半芳香族聚酰亚胺和全脂肪/脂环族聚酰亚胺。通用的芳香族聚酰亚胺的分子链中存在较大的共轭体系,可以形成电荷转移络合物(charge transfer complex,CTC),因此分子链的刚性和分子间作用力较大,导致其不溶、不熔、加工成型困难[3]。并且芳香族聚酰亚胺的颜色较深和透光率较差,限制了其在无色性能要求较高的微电子和光电子领域的应用。脂环族聚酰亚胺的分子中,脂环结构代替苯环结构有效消除了CTC的形成,使得材料的加工性能和透明度大幅提高,因此脂环族聚酰亚胺在液晶显示、气体分离和光敏材料等高科技领域有广泛的应用前景[4]
尽管脂环族聚酰亚胺具有广泛的应用前景,但是其工业化应用实例仍然较少,一方面是因为脂环族单体本身的合成难度较大,另一方面是因为脂环族聚酰亚胺合成过程中易形成盐而不能得到高分子量的聚合物[5]。基于此,本文着重从典型单体和聚合物合成的角度介绍国内外制备脂环族聚酰亚胺的研究进展,并对脂环族聚酰亚胺的发展趋势和应用前景进行展望。
脂环族聚酰亚胺单体包括脂环族二酐和脂环族二胺,目前已经报道的脂环族二酐有80多种,脂环族二胺有50多种,最为常见的脂环族二酐有环丁烷四甲酸二酐(CBDA)、氢化均苯四甲酸二酐(H-PMDA)和双环[2.2.2]辛-7-烯-2,3,5,6-四羧酸二酐(BTA),常见的脂环族二胺主要有1,4-环己二胺(p-CHDA)、降冰片烷二甲胺(NBDA)和4,4′-二氨基环己基甲烷(DCHM),其结构见图2。下面主要针对这6种典型脂环族聚酰亚胺单体的合成进行综述。
环丁烷四甲酸二酐(CBDA)是结构最简单的环状二酐,它的合成主要有酯二聚法和酐二聚法。
酯二聚法:1960年G W GRIFFIN等[6]报道了CBDA的合成,以顺丁烯二酸二甲酯为原料,通过光照进行二聚反应得到环丁烷四甲酸四甲酯,然后在盐酸中水解和在二氯亚砜中脱水制得CBDA,如图3所示。这种合成方法的关键是二聚反应,用固态原料直接进行光照反应,反应时间长达7~10 d,产率仅有60%。2012年C W ONG[7]采用反式丁烯二酸单甲酯为原料,以饱和食盐水作溶剂形成悬浮液,用365 nm/500 W紫外灯照射反应12 h,可得环丁烷二酸二甲酯,产率为80%。
酐二聚法:2005年S M CHOI等[8]直接以顺丁烯二酐为原料,采用氯仿作溶剂,用300 nm光照射反应14 d后制得CBDA,产率仅为40%,见图4。2008年A TAKAHASHI等[9]采用顺丁烯二酐为原料,乙酸乙酯为溶剂,直接光照反应一步即可制得CBDA,底物投料量仅1.2 g,他们还采用了10 mW的紫外光照射反应,反应时间长达630 h。日本东丽的S YOSHIDA等[10]对该方法进行了优化与放大,采用了400 W的高压汞灯作为光源进行光照反应,底物投料量增加至255 g,反应96 h后,产率可达76%。
两种方法的核心都是光催化二聚反应,由于光催化反应设备的限制,不易实现规模化生产。值得注意的是,近年来M BEAVER等[11]报道了顺丁烯二酐与乙烯的光催化二聚反应,成功实现了5 kg/d的生产规模。
氢化均苯四甲酸二酐(H-PMDA)的合成主要有酸氢化法和酯氢化法。
酸氢化法:1963年D T LONGONE[12]报道了以均苯四甲酸为原料,雷尼镍为催化剂,通过氢化还原反应得到环己烷四甲酸的方法,如图5所示。该反应产率可达81%~99%,但反应时间长达3 d,反应压力高达20 MPa,反应温度高达150℃,限制了该方法的进一步应用。1966年M FREIFELDER等[13]改进了这一方法,他们采用Rh/C催化剂,在较温和的条件下(0.27 MPa,60℃),反应1.5 h即可完成,反应产率可达75%~91%。
上述文献仅报道了氢化还原反应,并未介绍由四甲酸脱水制备H-PMDA。2003年S KIHARA等[14]以均苯四甲酸为原料,采用Rh/C催化剂,在 5 MPa、60℃下反应2 h制得环己烷四甲酸,产率为85%,将环己烷四甲酸进一步在醋酐中回流10 min即可制得H-PMDA,产率为96.6%,如图6所示。
酯氢化法:1996年伊藤宗明等[15]报道了以均苯四甲酸二酐为原料,与甲醇酯化制得均苯四甲酸四甲酯,在Rh/C催化条件下加氢还原得到环己烷四甲酸四甲酯,再在浓硫酸条件下水解得到环己烷四甲酸,最后通过醋酐回流脱水得到H-PMDA,如图7所示。
近年来也有相关的酯氢化法的报道,2015年宛峰等[16]采用自制的均苯四甲酸四丙酯为原料,将Pd、Ru、Ce负载于椰壳活性炭上制成催化剂,采用固定床进行氢化还原反应制得环己烷四甲酸四丙酯。赵许群等[17]和S SHIRAI等[18]也采用类似的方法合成了H-PMDA。
双环[2.2.2]辛-7-烯-2,3,5,6-四羧酸二酐(BTA)是另一个重要的聚酰亚胺单体,尤其是作为自增感型光敏聚酰亚胺的原料,得到了广泛的应用。BTA的合成最早可追溯至1931年,O DIELS等[19]通过著名的D-A反应合成了BTA。1965年M J GOLDSTEIN等[20]对BTA的合成和机理进行了详细的阐述,以α-吡喃酮为原料,与马来酸酐进行D-A反应合成桥环中间体,然后加热进行逆D-A反应脱除CO2得到1,2-二氢邻苯二甲酸酐,最后再与马来酸酐进行D-A反应制得BTA,如图8所示。
2018年冯柏成等[21]报道了一种合成BTA的新方法,以邻苯二甲酸为原料,通过电解制得1,2-二氢邻苯二甲酸,再与马来酸酐进行D-A反应并在醋酐中脱水制得BTA,如图9所示。
1,4-环己二胺主要是通过氢化还原芳香族胺制得。1952年杜邦公司的G M WHITMAN[22]以对硝基苯胺为原料,RuO2为催化剂,通过氢化还原反应一步制得1,4-环己烷二胺,产率达74%,如图10所示。
1970年N P GRECO[23]以对苯二胺盐酸盐为原料,采用Pt催化剂,水作溶剂,进行氢化还原反应制得环己二胺盐酸盐,最后用NaOH中和制得p-CHDA,产率可达100%,如图11所示。
2007年刘庆林等[24]以对苯二胺为原料,Ru/C为催化剂制备了1,4-环己烷二胺,并详细研究了不同工艺条件对产物tran-/cis-异构体的影响。2014年MA H等[25]同样以对苯二胺为原料,采用Ru/Al2O3为催化剂制备了1,4-环己烷二胺,首次采用了超临界CO2作为溶剂进行该还原反应。2019年K TANAKA等[26]采用自制的Ir催化剂,以环己二酮和醋酸铵为原料成功制得p-CHDA,产率可达65%。
与1,4-环己烷二胺的合成一样,4,4′-二氨基环己基甲烷(DCHM)也是通过相关的芳香族胺还原制得。1951年A E BARKDOLL等[27]以4,4′-二氨基二苯甲烷为原料,以Co2O3、CaO和Na2CO3为催化剂,通过氢化还原制得DCHM,如图12所示。DCHM有trans-trans、trans-cis-和cis-cis- 3种异构体,他们通过其溶解性差异对3种异构体进行了分离。
1952年G M WHITMAN[22]以4,4′-二氨基二苯甲烷为原料,RuO2/C为催化剂,氢化还原制得DCHM,产率达到75%。2017年李鑫等[28]以4,4′-二氨基二苯甲为原料,Rh/Al2O3和Ru/Al2O3为催化剂,在还原反应中加入酚类化合物改善催化剂活性,降低反应过程中高沸点焦油的生成,使得反应能够长期稳定运行,提高了生产效率,降低了生产成本。近年来,CAO J等[29]采用新的催化剂载体g-C3N4制备了新的负载型催化剂Ru/g-C3N4,由于载体中N元素的存在,有利于Ru的分散,从而大幅提高了催化剂的效率,在130℃、5 MPa下反应2.5 h,4,4′-二氨基二苯甲烷的还原转化率可达99%以上。
降冰片烷二甲胺(NBDA)是日本三井化学开发的新型脂环式二胺,1991年三井化学报道了NBDA的合成方法,他们以环戊二烯和丙烯腈为原料,通过D-A反应合成氰基降冰片烯(CNN),再与氢氰酸进行催化加成反应制得二氰基降冰片烷(DCN),最后进行氢化还原反应制得NBDA,如图13所示[30]。1995年三井化学制造完成了400 t/a的工业化装置。
2009年三井化学针对NBDA易着色的问题,在CNN氢氰化反应中通过降低催化剂配体的杂质磷酸酯含量,从而得到不易着色的NBDA[31]。近年来,三井化学对中间体氰基降冰片烯的生产工艺进行了优化,提高了产率并降低成本[32]
两步法是使用最广泛的合成聚酰亚胺的方法,几乎适用于所有的全芳香族聚酰亚胺和部分半芳香族聚酰亚胺。该方法主要是将二胺和二酐单体在极性溶剂中先聚合成聚酰胺酸(PAA)溶液,再通过高温或化学方法闭环得到聚酰亚胺[33]。值得注意的是,聚酰胺酸溶液对热量和水分非常敏感,在贮存过程中容易分解,因此最好使用新制备的聚酰胺制备聚酰亚胺材料。另外,如果采用脂环族二胺合成聚酰胺酸,由于脂环族二胺碱性更强,容易与聚酰胺反应生成不溶的盐,盐的生成在一定程度上会改变初始的单体摩尔比,影响聚合物的链生长。为了得到高分子量的聚酰亚胺,可以采用以下方式。
(1)改变加料顺序。通常情况下是将二酐加入二胺中,从而避免溶剂中少量的水分导致二酐水解,而将二胺加入二酐中可以加速盐的溶解,由此生成的聚酰胺酸颜色更浅[4,34]
(2)甲硅烷基化。全脂环族聚酰亚胺可以采用甲硅烷基化的方法制备,2007年M HASEGAWA等[35]报道了先用双(三甲基硅基)三氟乙酰胺将环己烷二胺进行甲硅烷基化反应,再与脂环族二酐反应生成甲硅烷基化的PPA中间体,由于该中间体没有-COOH基团,因此不会形成盐。最后通过加热闭环得到全脂环族聚酰亚胺,如图14所示。
(3)酯酸化。酯酸化是先将二酐与醇反应生成二酯二酸,然后用氯化亚砜将二酸变为二酰氯,再与二胺反应生成酯化PAA,最后通过加热环化制得聚酰亚胺,如图15所示[36]
一步法是另一种常见的合成脂环族聚酰亚胺的方法,主要用于合成溶解性较好的脂环族聚酰亚胺[37]。该方法主要在高沸点的有机溶剂中进行,如NMP、DMF、DMAc和间甲酚等,反应温度为140~200℃[38],通常还需要加入催化剂[39]。在一步法中,聚合和环化是同时进行的,与两步法相比,一步法的反应温度相对较低,这样可以避免部分在高温过程中产生的副反应,因此一步法更适合制备无色透明的聚酰亚胺薄膜[40]
异氰酸酯法是一种合成聚酰亚胺的重要方法,其优点在于环化过程中不产生水,只产生容易逸出的二氧化碳[41]。该方法首先采用二酐和二异氰酸酯反应生成七元环中间体,然后进一步在高温条件下脱除二氧化碳得到酰亚胺五元环,如图16所示。由于易产生二氧化碳的独特性质,异氰酸酯法更适用于合成聚酰亚胺气凝胶[42]
随着智能手机日新月异的发展,可折叠手机已经上市,其最大的特点就是柔性折叠,传统的玻璃衬底已不能满足要求,因此高性能高分子材料受到越来越多的关注,如聚酰亚胺(PI)、聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)、聚萘二甲酸乙二醇酯(PEN)、聚碳酸酯(PC)、聚醚砜(PES)、聚多环烯烃(PCO)、聚醚醚酮(PEEK)等[43]。其中聚酰亚胺具有优异的热性能而更适用于有耐高温需求的柔性材料。传统的全芳香族聚酰亚胺由于CTC效应的影响,透光性较差,通常显现为黄色,因此不适用于对透光性要求较高的显示领域,脂环族聚酰亚胺尤其是全脂环族聚酰亚胺通常具有较高的透光性能,且薄膜材料颜色可做到无色,因此脂环族聚酰亚胺更适用于透明柔性显示材料。
2007年日本三菱瓦斯(MGC)公司宣布实现了无色透明PI薄膜的量产,生产能力为5 000 m2/月,商品名为Neopulim®。该产品以脂环族二酐H-PMDA为原料生产,Tg为303℃,可长期耐受280℃高温制程(如无铅焊接)而不发生黄变。K SUGANUMA等[44]与MGC公司合作以Neopulim®薄膜为衬底制备了透明柔性的有机场效应晶体管(OFETs)。OFETs技术在低成本、柔性、大面积薄膜器件中具有广泛应用前景,被认为是实现下一代柔性显示、柔性存储器以及射频识别标签的核心技术之一。
聚合物膜由于具有高效性和低能耗等优点,被广泛应用于氢气回收、二氧化碳捕集、空气中分离氮气等气体分离领域[45-46]。聚酰亚胺膜是其中重要的膜材料之一,不仅具有优异的耐高温和耐化学腐蚀特性,还具有高选择性和适宜的气体渗透性。
巴斯夫公司已有商品化的脂环族聚酰亚胺产品Matrimid®可用于气体分离[47]。其中Matrimid® 5218是应用最广泛的商业聚酰亚胺材料之一,由其制备的气体分离膜在具备高选择性的同时,也兼具较高的渗透通量。沈子琦等[48]将聚苯砜(PPSU)与Matrimid®共混制备了分离膜,发现CO2通量和选择性得到进一步提高。
光敏聚酰亚胺(PSPI)因其优异的综合性能,被广泛应用于微电子领域的绝缘层和保护层[49-51]。在实际应用中,高频高速电路板需要具有更低介电常数的聚酰亚胺材料。向聚酰亚胺分子链中引入分子量较大的基团(如金刚烷)可有效降低材料的介电常数,Y WATANABE等[52]报道了一种具有金刚烷结构的半脂环族聚酰亚胺,它同时具有光敏性质和低介电常数。杨翰等[53]采用均苯四甲酸二酐、脂环族二胺、聚醚胺、马来酸酐等为原料,合成了可UV光固化的半脂环族聚酰亚胺树脂。
作为薄膜晶体管驱动液晶显示器件(TFT-LCD)的重要组成部分之一,液晶取向膜性能的优劣将直接影响器件的显示品质。在LCD面板中与液晶分子直接接触,并且能诱导无序排列的液晶分子进行定向排列的涂层称为取向膜,而用于制备取向膜的胶液称为取向剂。目前,TFT-LCD液晶面板主要采用聚酰亚胺(PI)作为取向膜,PI经摩擦或光辐照处理后在表面产生分子取向的各向异性,从而诱导液晶分子被“锚定”,进而在电场作用下发生定向排列[54]。传统的全芳香族聚酰亚胺透光性较差,而引入脂环结构能有效改善材料的透光性。文璞山等[55]以环丁烷四甲酸二酐(CBDA)为原料合成了一类新型的聚酰亚胺液晶取向膜,该取向膜具有良好的溶解性、热稳定性和平行取向性能。职欣心等[56]自制二甲基环丁烷四甲酸二酐(MCBDA),并以其为原料合成了两种新型聚酰亚胺液晶取向膜,两种取向膜对液晶分子均具有良好的取向效果,预倾角分别为1.3°和4.4°,装配的液晶盒电压保持率均超过96%。
芳香族聚酰亚胺具有优异的耐热、耐化学腐蚀和力学性能,但由于容易形成分子内和分子间的电荷转移络合物,因此芳香族聚酰亚胺通常颜色偏深,并且难溶于大部分溶剂导致加工性能较差。向聚酰亚胺分子中引入脂环结构能够有效克服上述缺点,使得脂环族聚酰亚胺被广泛应用于透明柔性显示、气体分离膜、光敏材料和液晶取向膜等领域。
脂环族单体在合成上均存在较大的难度,具有一定的技术门槛,目前国外公司垄断了研究应用中的绝大多数单体的生产和销售。脂环族聚酰亚胺无疑是一种技术含量高、附加值高的新型材料。可以预见,随着市场需求的不断增加,脂环族聚酰亚胺的研究将会受到学术界和工业界更多的关注,脂环族聚酰亚胺正面临着巨大的发展机遇。
