In order to develop a safe and eco-friendly accelerator, the differences between zinc neodecanoate and zinc naphthenate were studied from the three aspects of volatility characteristic, Zn2+ ion content, and the promoting curing characteristics of epoxy anhydride resin. Using high purity bisphenol A epoxy and methyl hexahydrophthalic anhydride as resin matrix, zinc neodecanoate and zinc naphthenate accelerators was added to the resin matrix,respectively. And then resin cured samples were prepared through the same process, and the glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermogravimetric curves of the samples were tested. The results show that due to the characteristic of single molecular structure, high Zn2+ content, and very low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), zinc neodecanoate is environmentally friendly. Comparing to zinc naphthenate, zinc neodecanoate requires a higher temperature to ensure complete curing of the epoxy anhydride resin. But under the same existing process conditions, the Tg of cured sample accelerated by zinc neodecanoate can reach 152℃, which is 11℃ higher than that of zinc naphthenate (141℃), indicating that the cured product accelerated by zinc neodecanoate has better thermomechanical properties.

为了开发一种安全环保型促进剂,从挥发特性、Zn2+含量和对环氧酸酐树脂的促进固化特性三个方面研究了新癸酸锌与环烷酸锌的差异。以高纯度双酚A环氧和甲基六氢苯酐为树脂基体,分别添加新癸酸锌和环烷酸锌促进剂,采用相同工艺制备了树脂固化试样并测试其玻璃化温度(Tg)和热失重曲线(TGA)。结果表明:新癸酸锌促进剂相比环烷酸锌具有分子结构单一、Zn2+含量高和挥发性有机物(VOCs)含量极低的特性,对环境友好。相比环烷酸锌,新癸酸锌需要更高的温度来确保环氧酸酐树脂完全固化。但是在现有的相同工艺条件下,新癸酸锌促进固化产物的玻璃化温度温度可达到152℃,相比环烷酸锌(141℃)提高了11℃,表明新癸酸锌促进固化产物具有更好的热机械性能。

环保型新癸酸锌促进剂的研究

为了开发一种安全环保型促进剂,从挥发特性、Zn2+含量和对环氧酸酐树脂的促进固化特性三个方面研究了新癸酸锌与环烷酸锌的差异。以高纯度双酚A环氧和甲基六氢苯酐为树脂基体,分别添加新癸酸锌和环烷酸锌促进剂,采用相同工艺制备了树脂固化试样并测试其玻璃化温度(Tg)和热失重曲线(TGA)。结果表明:新癸酸锌促进剂相比环烷酸锌具有分子结构单一、Zn2+含量高和挥发性有机物(VOCs)含量极低的特性,对环境友好。相比环烷酸锌,新癸酸锌需要更高的温度来确保环氧酸酐树脂完全固化。但是在现有的相同工艺条件下,新癸酸锌促进固化产物的玻璃化温度温度可达到152℃,相比环烷酸锌(141℃)提高了11℃,表明新癸酸锌促进固化产物具有更好的热机械性能。

In order to develop a safe and eco-friendly accelerator, the differences between zinc neodecanoate and zinc naphthenate were studied from the three aspects of volatility characteristic, Zn2+ ion content, and the promoting curing characteristics of epoxy anhydride resin. Using high purity bisphenol A epoxy and methyl hexahydrophthalic anhydride as resin matrix, zinc neodecanoate and zinc naphthenate accelerators was added to the resin matrix,respectively. And then resin cured samples were prepared through the same process, and the glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermogravimetric curves of the samples were tested. The results show that due to the characteristic of single molecular structure, high Zn2+ content, and very low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), zinc neodecanoate is environmentally friendly. Comparing to zinc naphthenate, zinc neodecanoate requires a higher temperature to ensure complete curing of the epoxy anhydride resin. But under the same existing process conditions, the Tg of cured sample accelerated by zinc neodecanoate can reach 152℃, which is 11℃ higher than that of zinc naphthenate (141℃), indicating that the cured product accelerated by zinc neodecanoate has better thermomechanical properties.

随着环氧-酸酐树脂体系在大电机整体真空压力浸渍技术(GVPI)中的应用,配套的环烷酸锌促进剂也大量使用在发电机、调相机等整浸定子的绝缘材料中(包括云母带、绑扎带和膨胀毡等)[1-4],以满足环氧-酸酐树脂快速固化的需求。环烷酸锌是从石油中提炼出来的分子结构中带有五元环或者六元环的多种有机酸与金属锌反应形成的混合有机锌盐[5-11]。环烷酸锌组成的不确定性导致促进剂产品质量不稳定,特别是Zn2+离子含量,通常需采用异辛酸锌来调节促进剂产品中Zn2+离子的质量分数恒定(11%)。而异辛酸锌由于具有生殖毒性,已在2018年被欧盟化学品注册、评估、许可和限制法规(REACH)禁用。此外,环烷酸锌促进剂具有明显的刺激性气味,对人体健康具有潜在的危害。因此,有必要开发更环保稳定的新型有机锌盐来替代目前大量使用的环烷酸锌促进剂。
人工合成的新癸酸锌促进剂组成稳定,纯度可达到99%以上,且Zn2+质量分数较高,可达到15%,可在保证产品性能稳定的同时减少促进剂在绝缘材料中的使用量,降低成本。此外,高纯度新癸酸锌促进剂可挥发组分含量低,对人体的健康危害较小,且对环境友好。本文针对人工合成的新癸酸锌,从挥发特性、Zn2+含量、对环氧酸酐树脂的反应促进特性以及固化产物的热机械性能方面进行研究。
双酚A缩水甘油醚(EP,环氧当量为0.58 eq/100 g),甲基六氢苯酐(MHHPA,酸酐当量为168 g/eq),Westlake Epoxy;环烷酸锌,标称Zn2+质量分数为11%;异辛酸锌,标称Zn2+质量分数为18%;新癸酸锌,标称Zn2+质量分数为15%;丁酮,分析纯,国药集团化学试剂有限公司。
Nicolet iS10型傅里叶变换衰减全反射红外光谱仪(ATR-FTIR),美国赛默飞世尔科技公司;TA Instruments Q800型动态热机械分析仪(DMA),美国TA仪器有限公司;DSC1型差示扫描量热仪(DSC)、T70型自动电位滴定仪、ML503/02型电子天平,瑞士梅特勒-托利多仪器有限公司;NETZSCHSTA 409-PC型热重分析仪,德国耐驰仪器制造有限公司;HBDV-II+Pro型旋转黏度计,美国Brookfield公司。
将环氧树脂A组份和酸酐B组份按1∶1的质量比混合,充分搅拌,混合均匀后将一定比例的促进剂添加到混合好的环氧酸酐树脂中,搅拌均匀。然后将上述混合树脂浇注到自制的长方形模具中,在145℃的温度条件下固化8 h,得到环氧酸酐树脂固化试样。
采用ATR-FTIR分析树脂的分子结构,测试波数范围为500~4 000 cm-1;采用DMA测试固化产物的玻璃化转变温度,试样的尺寸为60 mm×10 mm×2 mm,温度范围为25~250℃,升温速率为5℃/min;采用DSC测试树脂体系的固化反应动力学特征,采用铝坩埚,取试样约10 mg,N2气氛,升温速率为2℃/min、5℃/min或8℃/min;采用热重分析仪测试固化产物的耐热特性,采用铝坩埚,取试样约50 mg,N2气氛,升温速率为10℃/min;采用自动电位滴定仪测试促进剂的Zn2+含量,取促进剂试样约0.5 g,用丁酮充分溶解后,采用0.1 mol/L的HCl标准溶液进行滴定,滴定终点pH值为3.8。
环氧树脂和酸酐的红外光谱如图1所示。从图1可以看出,环氧树脂在914 cm-1附近出现了环氧基的特征吸收峰,但是在3 500 cm-1附近并没有出现-OH的红外吸收峰,说明该环氧树脂为高纯度双酚A缩水甘油醚,其分子结构不含羟基,n为0(n代表双酚A型环氧树脂分子式中的重复单元,n=0代表最小分子量环氧树脂)。本研究采用的酸酐为高纯度甲基六氢苯酐,在1 855 cm-1和1 775 cm-1出现了酸酐的特征吸收峰[12]。环氧酸酐树脂兼具环氧基和酸酐的特征吸收峰,但是在3 100~3 700 cm-1未出现羟基或者氨基等能促进环氧-酸酐树脂固化反应的特征基团,这说明该环氧-酸酐树脂在不加促进剂的条件下,无法发生固化反应,需要额外添加固化促进剂。
为了更直观地研究不同促进剂的挥发特性,采用恒温减重法和热重分析法(TGA)来测量促进剂的挥发性有机物(VOCs)含量。恒温减重法试验过程如下:在坩埚中称取相同质量(m1)的含锌促进剂,放置在鼓风烘箱中在100℃下敞口烘焙4 h后称量剩余质量(m2),根据式(1)计算VOCs质量分数(α),结果如图2(a)所示。

图2(a)可以看出,环烷酸锌促进剂的VOCs质量分数最高,为9.9%。而异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌的VOCs质量分数相对较低,分别为3.1%和2.0%。
3种促进剂的热重分析结果如图2(b)所示。从图2(b)可以看出,环烷酸锌促进剂在100~300℃有较大的质量损失,且无明显的热失重平台,对应于环烷酸锌促进剂中不同分子量的有机小分子的挥发。而异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌促进剂在100~300℃质量损失较小。以200℃时的残留率来评估促进剂中的VOCs质量分数,环烷酸锌为89.1%,异辛酸锌为93.1%,新癸酸锌为98.4%。以上结果说明新癸酸锌的可挥发性明显低于异辛酸锌和环烷酸锌,这与恒温减重法结果一致。
以上分析结果归因于石油提取出来的环烷酸成分复杂,纯度较低,导致制备得到的环烷酸锌含有大量可挥发性的石油化工副产物。这些物质极易从环烷酸锌促进剂中逸出,导致VOCs含量很高。而逸出的有机小分子会污染密闭空间内的空气,从而对人体健康有潜在的风险。而人工合成的新癸酸锌由于纯度相对较高,可挥发的物质少,从而VOCs相对含量很低,对人体健康风险低。
3种促进剂的ATR-FTIR红外光谱结果如图3所示。从图3可以看出,环烷酸锌促进剂在波数为2 954 cm-1和2 924 cm-1处的吸收峰分别是甲基(-CH3)和亚甲基(-CH2-)的特征峰。在1 708 cm-1位置的吸收峰是羧酸(-COOH)基团的特征峰。其中,环烷酸锌促进剂的-CH2-吸收峰明显强于-CH3,这主要是由于环烷酸锌分子结构中只有1个-CH3,-CH2-的数量多于-CH3数量。而在1 708 cm-1处出现吸收峰说明环烷酸锌促进剂中含有少量有机羧酸。
与环烷酸锌促进剂不同的是,异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌在2 954 cm-1位置的-CH3吸收峰强度明显增强。这主要是因为环烷酸锌分子结构中只有1个-CH3,异辛酸锌中有两个-CH3,新癸酸根的分子结构中有3个-CH3,所以在红外光谱图中环烷酸锌、异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌的-CH3吸收峰强度逐渐增强。
值得注意的是,异辛酸锌促进剂在1 708 cm-1处也有微弱红外吸收峰,这对应于微量未反应的游离异辛酸;而新癸酸锌促进剂在1 708 cm-1处则未出现吸收峰,这说明新癸酸锌促进剂中无有机羧酸,以上结果与2.2节的挥发性试验结果一致。
促进剂的有效成分为Zn2+,在环氧酸酐树脂体系中起到促进固化作用,因此Zn2+的含量对促进剂的性能至关重要。采用自动电位滴定法测定Zn2+含量,结果如图4所示。从图4可以看出,3种促进剂的Zn2+含量实测结果与标称Zn2+含量差异不大。
为了研究不同促进剂在环氧酸酐树脂体系中的固化反应特性[13-15],需要先确定促进剂在环氧酸酐树脂体系中Zn2+含量的典型值。以发电机绕组主绝缘为例,其主绝缘通常由云母、玻璃布和树脂三大部分组成。其中,主绝缘中树脂质量分数典型值为30%;玻璃布与云母质量分数的典型值为70%;云母带中云母含量典型值为160 g/m2,玻璃布含量典型值为23 g/m2,Zn2+含量典型值为0.5 mg/m2。则可按照式(2)计算主绝缘固化时树脂中促进反应的Zn2+含量(M)。
M=0.5160+23×70%30%×100%=0.638%
因此,下文树脂固化体系中Zn2+的质量分数定为0.638%。将环烷酸锌、异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌3种促进剂按上述比例加入到环氧酸酐树脂中并混合均匀,然后用差示扫描量热法(DSC)来研究固化反应特性。
不同升温速率下的DSC曲线如图5所示。从图5可以看出,随着升温速率的提高,3种促进剂的DSC固化反应峰温度均明显提高。在升温速率为2、5、8℃/min时,环烷酸锌的固化反应温度分别为113、129、137℃,异辛酸锌的固化反应温度分别为120、134、142℃,新癸酸锌的固化反应温度分别为125、139、148℃。
一般认为,放热峰值温度对应于反应的容易程度,峰值温度越低,说明固化反应越容易进行。以5℃/min的升温速率为例,反应峰值温度由高到低依次为新癸酸锌(139℃)、异辛酸锌(134℃)、环烷酸锌(129℃)。以上结果说明,相比环烷酸锌,异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌可能需要相对更高的温度来催化环氧酸酐树脂体系固化。
为了更直观地对比不同促进剂-树脂体系的固化温度,并消除升温速率对反应温度的影响,将反应温度-升温速率进行直线拟合,得到反应温度 (起始温度T1、峰值温度Tp和结束温度T2)与升温速率的直线关系方程,结果如图6所示,最后将升温速率外推至0(x=0),得到促进剂-树脂体系的本征反应温度。本征反应峰值温度最高的是新癸酸锌(114.39℃),异辛酸锌次之(113.19℃),环烷酸锌最低(106.85℃),峰值温度最大偏差约为8℃。以上结果也说明异辛酸锌和新癸酸锌相比环烷酸锌需要相对更高的反应温度来促进环氧酸酐树脂固化。
在实际生产时,制品体积大,很容易造成制品内外温度不一致,因此实际生产所需的反应温度要远高于上述试验测得的温度,目前工业上普遍采用的反应温度为145℃左右。因此,对于实际使用来说,3种促进剂均能满足实际工件固化温度要求。
对于实际应用来说,需要促进剂能在较短的时间内将环氧酸酐树脂完全固化。利用DSC热分析仪控温、控时精准的特点,设定DSC分段控温程序来研究新癸酸锌和环烷酸锌这两种促进剂在固化时间特性上的差异,标准的分段温控程序典型曲线如图7所示。
通过改变固化时间(图7第(2)段)可得到固化产物玻璃化转变温度(图7第(5)段)与固化时间的关系,结果如图8所示。从图8可以看出,固化时间为0.5 h时,两种促进剂得到的固化产物玻璃化转变阶梯均不明显,且都在较高的温度(175~200℃)出现了一个明显的放热馒头峰,对应的是树脂的后固化反应,这说明0.5 h的反应时间远远不能够固化环氧酸酐树脂。随着固化反应时间的增加(大于2 h),放热馒头峰逐渐消失,取而代之的是玻璃化转变阶梯愈加明显,Tg逐渐升高。
为了进一步研究反应时间对固化产物玻璃化转变温度的影响,对固化产物进行二次Tg测试,来判断产物是否完全固化,结果如图9所示。从图9可以看出,随着固化时间的延长,固化产物的Tg逐渐提高,且两次Tg差距越来越小,这说明延长反应时间可以提高产物的Tg。当固化时间为6 h时,两种促进剂的两次Tg测试值差异均小于2℃,可认为此时产物已经完全固化;继续延长固化时间到7 h时,Tg变化不明显。
以上结果说明,在固化温度为145℃时,新癸酸锌和环烷酸锌两种促进剂所需的固化时间差异不大,固化反应时间均需大于6 h才能保证完全固化。环烷酸锌促进剂完全固化产物的Tg在115℃左右,而新癸酸锌促进剂完全固化产物的Tg在120℃左右,明显高于环烷酸锌。
为了更直接地研究固化产物的性能,按照145℃下固化8 h的工艺将添加环烷酸锌和新癸酸锌促进剂的环氧酸酐树脂通过混合、浇注固化制备成标准DMA样条,进行热机械性能的研究。试样的玻璃化转变温度(DMA损耗模量中值)测试结果如图10所示。从图10可以看出,环烷酸锌和新癸酸锌促进剂固化产物的玻璃化转变温度分别为141℃和152℃。
以上结果可以说明,在相同固化工艺条件下,新癸酸锌固化产物的热机械性能明显优于环烷酸锌固化产物,这与第2.6节的实验结果一致。
此外,对固化产物进行TGA热重分析以进一步研究固化物耐热性能的差异,结果如图11所示。
图11可以看出,两种促进剂固化产物的热失重曲线几乎完全重合,且在100~200℃无热失重平台,说明固化产物无可挥发性小分子,固化度较高。而在200~750℃有一个明显的热失重平台,其起始失重温度TA≈200℃,外延起始温度TC=374℃,半寿失重温度TE=401℃,外延终止温度TD=423℃,失重结束温度TB≈750℃。其中外延起始温度是下降段切线与初始基线延长线的交点,该温度点试验重复性好,所以多采用此温度点来判定材料的初始分解温度。新癸酸锌和环烷酸锌促进剂固化产物的起始分解温度基本相同,均在374℃左右。这主要是由于促进剂在固化体系中的含量较低(约为6%),仅起到促进环氧和酸酐交联固化的作用,最终固化产物的交联骨架主要由环氧树脂和酸酐构成,因此可认为两种促进剂的固化产物的耐热分解能力相当。
(1)新癸酸锌促进剂挥发性有机物(VOCs)质量分数为2.0%,相比环烷酸锌(VOCs质量分数为9.9%)挥发性显著降低,且无明显的刺激性气味,大幅降低了对人体的健康危害,更安全环保。
(2)新癸酸锌促进剂相比环烷酸锌需要相对更高的反应温度来确保环氧酸酐树脂完全固化,但是固化所需的时间与环烷酸锌基本一致。
(3)在相同的Zn2+添加量以及相同的固化工艺条件下,新癸酸锌-环氧酸酐树脂固化产物的热机械性能相比环烷酸锌促进剂有明显提升。
