Contact method and non-contact method are two commonly used methods to measure relative dielectric constant of polymer films, and the electrode edge effect is one of the unavoidable errors in the measurement process. However, the error caused by the electrode edge effect is difficult to quantify. In order to solve this problem, COMSOL simulation software was used to model and simulate the three-electrode structure, and the errors caused by the electrode edge effect in the contact method and the variable capacitance method of non-contact method were obtained and compared respectively. The results show that the electrode edge effect of the variable capacitance method is much greater than that of the contact method. Taking the edge effect less than 0.50% as the standard, when the film thickness is less than 40 μm, the electrode edge effect of the contact method can be ignored, while for the variable capacitance method, only the film thickness is less than 30 μm, the electrode edge effect can only be ignored.

接触法和非接触法作为两种常用的聚合物薄膜相对介电常数测量方法,在其测量过程中电极边缘效应是不可避免的误差来源。但电极边缘效应引起的误差难以量化,为解决该问题,利用COMSOL仿真软件对三电极结构进行建模仿真,分别得到接触法和非接触法中变电容法的电极边缘效应误差,并进行对比分析。结果表明:变电容法的电极边缘效应远大于接触法的电极边缘效应。以电极边缘效应误差不高于0.50%为标准,当薄膜厚度小于40 μm时,接触法的电极边缘效应可忽略不计,而对于变电容法只有薄膜厚度小于30 μm,其电极边缘效应才可忽略不计。

接触法和非接触法作为两种常用的聚合物薄膜相对介电常数测量方法,在其测量过程中电极边缘效应是不可避免的误差来源。但电极边缘效应引起的误差难以量化,为解决该问题,利用COMSOL仿真软件对三电极结构进行建模仿真,分别得到接触法和非接触法中变电容法的电极边缘效应误差,并进行对比分析。结果表明:变电容法的电极边缘效应远大于接触法的电极边缘效应。以电极边缘效应误差不高于0.50%为标准,当薄膜厚度小于40 μm时,接触法的电极边缘效应可忽略不计,而对于变电容法只有薄膜厚度小于30 μm,其电极边缘效应才可忽略不计。

Contact method and non-contact method are two commonly used methods to measure relative dielectric constant of polymer films, and the electrode edge effect is one of the unavoidable errors in the measurement process. However, the error caused by the electrode edge effect is difficult to quantify. In order to solve this problem, COMSOL simulation software was used to model and simulate the three-electrode structure, and the errors caused by the electrode edge effect in the contact method and the variable capacitance method of non-contact method were obtained and compared respectively. The results show that the electrode edge effect of the variable capacitance method is much greater than that of the contact method. Taking the edge effect less than 0.50% as the standard, when the film thickness is less than 40 μm, the electrode edge effect of the contact method can be ignored, while for the variable capacitance method, only the film thickness is less than 30 μm, the electrode edge effect can only be ignored.

聚合物薄膜材料具有结构均匀、体积小、介电性能好等特点,在电力电子设备与绝缘领域中得到了广泛应用[1]。相对介电常数(εr)是表征聚合物薄膜材料介电性能的重要参数,因此准确测量聚合物薄膜材料的εr是研究其介电性能的关键前提[2]
测量相对介电常数常用的方法有接触法和非接触法(也称为“不接触法”[3])两种[4],但这两种方法在测量极薄的单层聚合物薄膜(厚度为10~50 μm)时,均存在一定的误差[5]。目前电力电子设备中的电容器薄膜厚度普遍只有几微米[6],如何选用合适的测量方法并减小测量误差是一个需要深入讨论的问题。
两种测量方法均采用三电极结构作为基础测量装置[7],而三电极之间的边缘电场会对试样相对介电常数的测量产生干扰[8]。IEC 61340-2-3:2016[9]中规定了处理边缘电场的计算公式,该公式将测量电极与保护电极之间间隙宽度的1/2作为测量电极的等效半径,但该公式并不适用于所有场合。文献[10-11]针对该标准中的公式进行了修正,修正结果较为准确,但仅仅只量化了接触法的边缘效应,并不涉及非接触法。因此,针对这两种方法的对比研究可以进一步提高三电极系统测量相对介电常数时的准确性。
本文使用多物理场仿真软件COMSOL分别对三电极结构在接触法和非接触法中变电容法的电场进行仿真计算,得到两种方法电极边缘效应误差与薄膜和电极参数的关系,并将两种方法进行量化比较。
三电极结构被广泛应用于介电材料绝缘特性的测量[12],如相对介电常数及电阻率等重要参数。三电极包括测量电极、保护电极和高压电极[13],如图1所示。图1g为保护电极与测量电极之间的间隙宽度,du为保护电极与测量电极的高度差,dx为被测试样的厚度。
三电极结构中高压电极与电桥的工频高压端相连,以产生电极间的电场;测量电极与电桥的低压端相连,与高压电极之间形成电压差;保护电极将整个测量电极包裹住并与电桥的低压端相连,但与测量电极互不接触,以屏蔽外部电场对该电场的干扰。此外,在设置实验装置时,需保证测量电极与高压电极的表面光滑,方便与被测试样更好地贴合;保护电极略高于测量电极,以保证测量电极与试样的接触状态不受影响。
接触法在测量前需要对薄膜试样进行处理,通常是在试样两侧喷镀金属电极,增加试样与电极之间的电接触,减少接触电容和电阻引起的误差。喷镀金属电极需要较长的时间和较好的设备,因此该方法更适合实验室测量,不适用于工业测量。
处理后的试样放在测量电极与高压电极之间并与两电极紧密贴合,通过电桥装置可以直接测量出试样的介质损耗因数tanδ,试样的相对介电常数εr则可利用测量得到的试样电容值Cx依据式(1)计算得到。

式(1)中:ε0为真空介电常数,取值为8.85×10-12 F/m;S为测量电极面积。
非接触法分为变间隙法和变电容法。变间隙法是通过调节电极距离dj,让两次测量的总电容值Cx保持不变,该方法在测量厚度很小的薄膜时对电极距离的调节精度要求很高,通常三电极设备的精度难以满足,本研究不进行讨论。变电容法则是在保持电极距离dj不变的情况下,分别测量无试样时的空隙电容和加入试样后的总电容,并据此推算出试样的相对介电常数[14]。变电容法测量步骤的可视化图像如图2所示。
根据图2的测量步骤,利用变电容法计算试样相对介电常数εr的公式如式(2)所示。

式(2)中:Cm1为第一次测量电容值;Cm2为第二次测量电容值。
式(2)可知,变电容法测量的误差来源于两个方面,分别是电容的测量值Cm1Cm2及电极距离的测量值dj。电容的测量值误差来自电极边缘效应的影响,这也是本文主要的研究对象。而电极距离的误差与三电极结构的制造水平有关,当电极距离dj小至微米级时,普通的设备难以保证两次测量的电极距离dj相同,从而导致测量厚度较小的聚合物薄膜时存在较大误差。因此用变电容法测量厚度很小的聚合物薄膜时,误差较大。
使用上述两种方法测量试样的电容时,电容的理论值为测量电极与高压电极平行平面间的电容值。但是高压电极与测量电极的侧面之间也存在电场,这会感应出电荷,从而产生一个附加电容,如图3所示,此现象即为电极边缘效应。
因此,利用三电极结构得到的电容测量值是实际电容值与侧面附加电容值的总和。由侧面附加电容引起的测量误差称为由电极边缘效应产生的误差。
电极边缘效应误差Δ可表示为侧面附加电容值与实际电容值的比值,如式(3)所示。

式(3)中:C0为实际电容值,可通过式(4)计算得到;Cx为测量总电容,可由测量电极侧面电场产生的感应电荷量计算得出,由于计算过程复杂,可利用仿真软件进行建模计算。

采用基于有限元法的仿真软件COMSOL对电极边缘效应误差Δ进行仿真计算。在COMSOL软件中建立三电极结构的二维旋转轴对称模型,选取仿真环境为静电场。
GB/T 1410—2006[15]中推荐测量电极的直径为50 mm,但是直径50 mm的电极在测量厚度为10~50 μm的薄膜试样(εr=2.3)时,对应尺寸的薄膜电容(4~0.8 nF)较大。对于电容电桥装置,如此大的电容将造成读数精确度不够。因此测量极薄的薄膜试样时,宜采用直径较小的测量电极。在本文中,仿真模型的尺寸是基于实验室中三电极装置的真实尺寸,考虑到加工难度以及与电桥连接器的适配性,同时兼顾计算的方便,将测量电极的直径设置为35.68 mm,则测量电极面积S≈1 000 mm2。本文中仿真模型将电极尺寸进一步简化,取值为36 mm。
电极边缘效应只与测量电极和保护电极间的间隙电场相关,即和间隙的宽度有关。这说明测量电极半径的改变并不会影响电极边缘的电场分布,只会影响测量的总电容值。当测量电极的半径改变时,仅仅在总电容的具体数值上略有不同,整体电极边缘效应的影响趋势不会改变。三电极的其余尺寸并不影响电极边缘效应误差的大小,仿真模型中测量电极的高度设置为10 mm,保护电极的宽度设置为10 mm,测量电极的半径为18 mm,高压电极的半径为35 mm,如图4所示。
图4中,保护电极与测量电极均接地,考虑到试样的厚度过小,高压电极电压设置为10 V,以避免空气击穿。空间边界是直径为50 mm的球体,边界条件为浮点电位。通过改变试样相对介电常数εr、试样厚度dx、保护电极与测量电极间隙g和保护电极与测量电极高度差du等4个参数,对空间边界内电场的分布进行仿真。
接触法和变电容法测得的电场分布仿真结果如图5所示。其中图5(a)的仿真参数为dx=25 μm、εr=2.3、g=0.5 mm、du=0.5 mm;图5(b)的仿真参数为dx=25 μm、εr=2.3、g=0.5 mm、du=0,间隙与试样厚度之比为1∶2。
图5可以看出,测量电极的侧面存在分布不均匀电场,即存在边缘效应,且变电容法测量电极边缘的电场强度大于接触法测量电极边缘的电场强度。
采用控制变量法研究各参数对于Δ的影响,即固定两个参数,研究另外两个参数与Δ的关系。
gdu参数固定时,结合实际电极的制造难度,取g=0.5 mm,du=0.5 mm,仿真得到接触法中Δdxεr之间的关系曲线如图6所示。
图6可以看出,不放入试样,即εr=1.0时的电极边缘效应误差明显大于放入试样时的状态。试样的加入减弱了高压电极与测量电极侧面的电场,因此电极边缘效应更小。
试样厚度dx越大,Δ也越大。对于εr=2.3的试样,当dx由10 μm增大至50 μm时,Δ增大了0.51%,变化幅度较大,表明试样的厚度是电极边缘效应的主要影响因素之一。
试样的相对介电常数εr越大,电极边缘效应误差Δ越小。对于dx=50 μm的试样,当其εr由2.0增大至4.0时,Δ减小了0.20%,变化幅度很小。表明相对介电常数的变化对电极边缘效应的影响很小。
以0.50%为分界线,若电极边缘效应误差在0.50%内,则视为不影响测量。以εr=2.3的试样为例,厚度在40 μm内的薄膜,其电极边缘效应误差基本在0.50%内,此时可忽略测量时电极边缘效应的影响。因此,当电极以较高精度制造,如g=0.5 mm,du=0.5 mm,通过接触法测量40 μm内的薄膜时,电极边缘效应的影响可忽略。
dxεr参数固定时,以常见聚丙烯薄膜的参数为例,取dx=25 μm,εr=2.3,仿真得到接触法中Δgdu之间的关系曲线如图7所示。从图7可以看出,减小gdu均可以减小电极边缘效应的影响。gdu共同决定了保护电极与测量电极之间的距离,保护电极距离测量电极越远,则电极边缘效应越大,表明保护电极不仅屏蔽了外部电磁场的干扰,也降低了内部电磁场所引起的电极边缘效应。
据此,为减小电极边缘效应带来的影响,一方面可在保证保护电极与测量电极的间隙不被击穿的情况下,尽量减小du的取值,但为保证测量电极与被测试样的接触状态不受影响,保护电极需略高于测量电极放置,因此,保护电极与测量电极的高度差du取值需大于0;另一方面,可根据制造工艺水平尽量减小保护电极与测量电极间隙g的大小。
图7中无论gdu的取值范围如何,Δ均小于0.50%。这意味着使用接触法测量厚度小于25 μm的薄膜时,对三电极结构的要求较为宽松,在制造过程中无需严格对gdu的大小进行控制。
由1.3节可知,非接触法中的变间距法需要控制两次测量的电容值不变,为了达到这一目的,需要同时调整多个参数,与本文所用的控制变量法相悖;且在实际测量过程中,不断调整电极的距离将会使电极平面难以平行于试样,该方法在实际中应用较少。因此本文只对变电容法进行研究。
由于变电容法的测量电极不与试样接触,du恒等于0。固定g时,与接触法相同,g=0.5 mm。仿真得到变电容法中Δdxεr之间的关系曲线如图8所示。
图8图6dxεrΔ之间的变化趋势一致,但在数值上略有不同。εr为2.0~4.0时,在同一条件下,变电容法产生的电极边缘效应远大于接触法的电极边缘效应。以dx=50 μm,εr=2.3为例,变电容法的电极边缘效应误差为0.91%,接触法的电极边缘效应误差为0.70%,两者相差0.21%。
变电容法中测量电极与高压电极之间存在两种εr不同的介质,被测试样的dxεr均大于空气间隙,使得空气间隙中的场强远大于试样,电极边缘电场更多地集中在更窄的间隙中,因此变电容法的电极边缘效应误差更大。
以0.50%为分界线,在g=0.5 mm的情况下,使用变电容法测量厚度小于30 μm的薄膜,其电极边缘效应可忽略不计。
固定dxεr,以常见聚丙烯薄膜的参数为例,取dx=25 μm,εr=2.3,仿真得到变电容法中Δg之间的关系曲线如图9所示。
图9图7gΔ之间的变化趋势也是一致的,在相同条件下图9中的数值也明显大于图7。即变电容法需要更小的g,才能保证与接触法达到同样的效果,说明变电容法对于三电极结构的参数要求更高。使用变电容法测量厚度为25 μm的薄膜时,需要将测量电极与保护电极之间的间隙g减小至0.3 mm内,才可将电极边缘效应误差减小至0.50%以内。
将两种方法的仿真结果进行比较。接触法相比于变电容法,在测量厚度小于50 μm的薄膜时电极边缘效应误差更小,两者最大相差约0.21%。随着薄膜厚度的进一步减小,变电容法可实现对电极距离dj和间隙的精确控制,但这将导致其他误差增大。
综上,接触法由于需要在薄膜试样两侧喷镀金属电极,测量过程更加复杂,但该方法在测量极薄薄膜时更精确。若实验室具备喷镀条件,在实际测量过程中选用接触法更加合适。
(1)对于接触法,当电极具有较高的制造精度(g=0.5 mm,du=0.5 mm)时,测量厚度小于40 μm的薄膜时,电极边缘效应误差基本在0.5%以内,可忽略不计。若测量厚度小于25 μm的薄膜,对三电极结构中gdu的大小无需严格控制就能保持误差在0.5%以内。
(2)对于变电容法,g=0.5 mm时,测量厚度小于30 μm的薄膜时,电极边缘效应误差基本在0.50%以内,可忽略不计。若测量厚度小于25 μm的薄膜,则需将测量电极与保护电极的间隙控制在0.3 mm以内。
(3)相较于变电容法,接触法在测量厚度小于50 μm的薄膜时结果更加精确。在电极边缘效应的误差上两者最大相差约0.21%,因此若实验室具有喷镀金属电极的条件,在测量极薄薄膜的相对介电常数时选用接触法更加合适。
