Hepatoprotective drugs play a crucial role in liver protection by promoting hepatocyte regeneration, enhancing liver detoxification, and boosting immune function. However, these drugs are highly heterogeneous, and their clinical use remains controversial due to the lack of standardized diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines. Furthermore, improper use of these drugs may lead to adverse reactions. Therefore, this expert consensus summarizes the latest research, the classification, mechanisms of action, and clinical applications of hepatoprotective agents. It also highlights key considerations for their use in special populations and under monitoring, aiming to provide clinicians and pharmacists with scientific, standardized medication guidance to ensure the safe and rational use of hepatoprotective drugs.
