Phytoplankton, as the base of the oceanic food chain, plays a fundamental role in marine ecosystems. Since the Bohai Sea, the largest inner sea in China, is an important spawning ground and nursery field as well as a feeding ground for marine creatures, it is critical to understand variations of phytoplankton in the area. Chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration is an important proxy for phytoplankton biomass. Chl a derived from both the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) from 1997 to 2010 and the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on satellite Aqua from 2002 to 2018 were combined into one time series to investigate the spatial and temporal variability of Chl a concentrations in the Bohai Sea using Google Earth Engine. Annual Chl a concentrations increased significantly by 14.1% in the study area over the past two decades. Chl a concentrations in every season and in all months except November have stagnated or increased. Chl a concentrations increased mainly in the middle part of the sea. Sea surface temperature (SST), wind speed and precipitation were also analyzed. Increases in precipitation over the land around the Bohai Sea and wind speed in summer, as well as decrease in SST in autumn, all contributed to the rises of Chl a concentrations. Nutrients from land may play an important role in phytoplankton growth.

浮游植物作为食物链的基础,对海洋生态系统具有重要作用。渤海作为我国最大的内海和重要渔业生物的产卵场、育幼场和索饵场,该区浮游植物研究具有重要意义。叶绿素a浓度是反映浮游植物生物量的重要指标。利用Google Earth Engine平台,对1997–2010年的宽视场海洋观测传感器(SeaWiFS)叶绿素a浓度数据和2002–2018年的水色卫星中分辨率成像光谱仪传感器(MODIS Aqua)叶绿素a浓度数据进行合并,并研究其时空变化特征。研究表明,近20年来,渤海全年叶绿素a浓度增加了14.1%,且增加显著。叶绿素a浓度在所有季节都呈现增加趋势;除11月外,其他各月都呈现稳定或增加趋势。从滦河入河口沿岸至渤海海峡的渤海中部,叶绿素a浓度增加较明显。同时也分析了海洋表面温度、风速和降水量数据。夏季渤海周边区域降水量和风速增加以及秋季海表温度的降低都有助于同季叶绿素a浓度的升高。渤海浮游植物可能受陆源营养物质输入影响较大。

浮游植物作为食物链的基础,对海洋生态系统具有重要作用。渤海作为我国最大的内海和重要渔业生物的产卵场、育幼场和索饵场,该区浮游植物研究具有重要意义。叶绿素a浓度是反映浮游植物生物量的重要指标。利用Google Earth Engine平台,对1997–2010年的宽视场海洋观测传感器(SeaWiFS)叶绿素a浓度数据和2002–2018年的水色卫星中分辨率成像光谱仪传感器(MODIS Aqua)叶绿素a浓度数据进行合并,并研究其时空变化特征。研究表明,近20年来,渤海全年叶绿素a浓度增加了14.1%,且增加显著。叶绿素a浓度在所有季节都呈现增加趋势;除11月外,其他各月都呈现稳定或增加趋势。从滦河入河口沿岸至渤海海峡的渤海中部,叶绿素a浓度增加较明显。同时也分析了海洋表面温度、风速和降水量数据。夏季渤海周边区域降水量和风速增加以及秋季海表温度的降低都有助于同季叶绿素a浓度的升高。渤海浮游植物可能受陆源营养物质输入影响较大。

Phytoplankton, as the base of the oceanic food chain, plays a fundamental role in marine ecosystems. Since the Bohai Sea, the largest inner sea in China, is an important spawning ground and nursery field as well as a feeding ground for marine creatures, it is critical to understand variations of phytoplankton in the area. Chlorophyll a (Chl a) concentration is an important proxy for phytoplankton biomass. Chl a derived from both the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) from 1997 to 2010 and the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on satellite Aqua from 2002 to 2018 were combined into one time series to investigate the spatial and temporal variability of Chl a concentrations in the Bohai Sea using Google Earth Engine. Annual Chl a concentrations increased significantly by 14.1% in the study area over the past two decades. Chl a concentrations in every season and in all months except November have stagnated or increased. Chl a concentrations increased mainly in the middle part of the sea. Sea surface temperature (SST), wind speed and precipitation were also analyzed. Increases in precipitation over the land around the Bohai Sea and wind speed in summer, as well as decrease in SST in autumn, all contributed to the rises of Chl a concentrations. Nutrients from land may play an important role in phytoplankton growth.

海洋浮游植物提供了全球约一半的初级生产量[1],作为食物链的基础,对海洋生态系统具有重要作用。渤海作为我国最大的内海和重要渔业生物的产卵场、育幼场和索饵场[2],该区浮游植物研究具有重要意义。
叶绿素a浓度是反映浮游植物生物量的重要指标[3]。渤海是我国海洋叶绿素a研究开始较早的区域[4],最初的研究多采用实地观测的方法[5-6]。无论是站点观测还是船只测量,其优点是能够获得准确可靠的浓度数据,因此该方法一直被使用[2, 7-15],但是其缺点是空间覆盖范围有限。随着遥感技术的发展,其空间覆盖范围广、时间覆盖全等优点使得越来越多的研究开始采用该手段[16-22]。研究内容也从叶绿素a的测定方法[4],逐步扩展到其分布特征[5-6, 13, 17],再到变化特征及其与环境因子的关系[7, 9-11, 13, 20-21]。已有研究大大加深了对浮游植物的认识,但是长时间尺度、全空间覆盖的研究则较少[19-21]。而这对于深入理解浮游植物变化及其与环境因子的关系十分必要。
本文对宽视场海洋观测传感器(SeaWiFS)和水色卫星中分辨率成像光谱仪传感器(MODIS Aqua)叶绿素a浓度数据进行合并,形成较长时间序列的数据,后对其时空变化特征进行研究,并分析其变化与其他环境因子,如海洋表面温度、风速和降水量的关系,以期加深对渤海浮游植物的变化及其原因的理解。
渤海位于37°7´~40°59´N,117°35´~122°16´E,是中国最大的内海,为一个半封闭的北温带海域,面积约77 000 km2,平均深度约18 m[14, 23]。主要入海河流有黄河、海河、滦河和辽河等(图1)。渤海是多种渔业生物的产卵场、育幼场和索饵场。渤海有已记录浮游植物77属170种,主要为温带近岸性种硅藻和甲藻[2, 15]。环渤海地区是我国重要的经济带,人口密度大,多个城市位于该区。
叶绿素a浓度数据为美国航空航天局(National Aeronautics and Space Administration,NASA)的3级SMI产品,传感器为MODIS和SeaWiFS,时间分辨率为1 d,空间分辨率分别为4 km×4 km和10 km×10 km,详见表1。NASA的海洋生物学数据处理组负责了叶绿素a浓度产品的生产,他们首先建立了实测叶绿素a浓度与遥感数据的光谱反射率之间的经验关系,然后再利用遥感数据计算叶绿素a浓度。在具体的计算过程中,他们把波段比值算法和颜色指数(CI)算法相结合,并取0.15 mg/m3<CI<0.20 mg/m3作为两个算法的过渡区,以保证结果的平滑[24-25]
采用可靠的海洋生物物理模型,然后对多源叶绿素a浓度数据进行同化处理,才能建立较准确的合成产品,但是受制于当前的模型精度、计算量等的限制,本文仅采用了常规的数据整合方法。本研究利用Google Earth Engine通过编程分别计算得到全区平均的每日渤海地区的MODIS和SeaWiFS叶绿素a浓度数据,再利用Access计算MODIS和SeaWiFS叶绿素a浓度的年值和月值数据。在计算的过程中,剔除了有效值比例低于10%的数据。有效值的比例计算方法为:具有有效值像素的个数除以区域总像素数再乘以100%。
对于全区平均的年值数据,通过线性回归求出在重叠年份即2003–2009年MODIS和SeaWiFS叶绿素a浓度数据的回归方程(y=2.023 5x–3.481,R 2=0.963,xy分别为SeaWiFS和MODIS叶绿素a浓度值,2008年的异常值被剔除),再利用该方程对SeaWiFS叶绿素a浓度数据进行校正。最后将校正后的SeaWiFS叶绿素a浓度数据与MODIS数据进行合并,对于重叠年份,取两者的平均值,非重叠年份直接采用其值,最终得到1998–2017年的叶绿素a浓度年值数据。
对于全区平均的月值数据,采用与年值数据同样的方法进行处理,当R 2高于0.5时,进行校正,然后合并;对于R 2低于0.5的数据不进行校正,直接进行合并,重叠年份,取两者的平均值,非重叠年份直接采用其值。R 2高于0.5的月份有2月、3月、8月、9月、10月和12月。
全区各个季节的叶绿素a浓度平均值则由月值数据平均得到。冬季为上一年的12月至本年2月,春季为3–5月,夏季为6–8月,秋季为9–11月。
月、季和全年的叶绿素a浓度空间上的线性趋势是在Google Earth Engine中计算得到。对于全年叶绿素a浓度,首先将叶绿素a浓度日值数据转化成年值数据,再通过上述年值数据的回归方程,对SeaWiFS叶绿素a浓度值进行校正,然后与MODIS数据进行合并。计算的时间跨度为1998–2017年。对于月值数据,采用与年值数据类似方法计算得到,对于R 2低于0.5的数据不进行校正,直接进行合并;重叠年份,取两者的平均值,非重叠年份直接采用其值。校正的月份同上述全区平均的月值数据。各个季节的叶绿素a浓度值则由月值数据平均得到。
所有叶绿素a浓度变化百分比数据为后10年的平均值相对于前10年或11年的平均值的变化率。
降水数据来自于英国东英格利亚大学(University of East Anglia)的月平均地表气候要素数据集CRU ST4.01(http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/),其时间跨度为1901–2016年,空间分辨率为0.5°×0.5°[26]。我们使用NCL语言计算1997–2016年的降水量。用于统计降水量的流域范围见图1
海洋表面温度数据来自于美国国家海洋和大气管理局(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,NOAA)的第二版气候数据集[27]。其时间跨度为1988年至今,空间分辨率为0.25°×0.25°,时间分辨率为3 h。我们在Google Earth Engine中把其转化成日值数据后,再利用Access计算得到月值数据和年值数据。各个季节的海洋表面温度数据则由月值数据平均得到。
风速数据来自于NOAA的第二版气候数据集[27]。其时间跨度为1988年至今,空间分辨率为0.25°×0.25°,时间分辨率为3 h。其计算方法与海洋表面温度数据处理方法类似。
本文采用了非参数统计检验(Mann-Kendall,MK)分析方法[28-29],对全年和各季的全区平均的叶绿素a浓度的变化趋势进行了分析,其基本原理如下:设时间序列为 $\left\{ {{x_i}} \right\}\left( {i=1,2, \cdots ,n} \right)$ ,定义统计量

在时间序列随机独立假设下,定义统计量

统计量 $U{F_k}$ 大于0表示增加趋势,大于1.96表示增加趋势达到了95%的置信水平,具体计算在Matlab中编程实现。
从1998–2017年,渤海全年叶绿素a浓度线性趋势增加显著,年增长率为0.052 2 mg/(m3·a),增加了14.1%;从1998–2010年呈波动性增加趋势;2010–2015年达到5 mg/m3左右的高值区,但是此后又出现了下降,在2008年出现一个明显的相对低值(图2表2)。MK分析表明:从2005年起,叶绿素a浓度呈增加趋势,至2010年该趋势达到95%显著水平(图3)。
近20 年渤海叶绿素a浓度在所有季节整体上都呈现增加趋势,其中春季(3–5月)与夏季(6–8月)增加趋势显著,夏季的增速最大,增加了44.8%,秋冬季增速较小且不显著。1998–2015年春季叶绿素a浓度呈波动性增加趋势,随后出现下降趋势;1998–2010年,夏季叶绿素a浓度呈明显增加趋势,随后出现下降趋势;秋季叶绿素a浓度存在多年波动现象;冬季叶绿素a浓度存在明显的年际波动(图4表2)。MK分析表明:从2004年起,春季叶绿素a浓度呈现增加趋势,至2011年该趋势达到95%显著水平;从2001年起,夏季叶绿素a浓度呈现增加趋势,至2005年该趋势达到95%显著水平;秋冬季叶绿素a浓度分别从2010年和2007年起呈现增加趋势,但是除2014年秋季外,这些增加趋势都不显著(图3)。叶绿素a浓度在夏季增速最大,在冬季增速较小,该结果与Zhang等[19]的研究结果一致,但是其他季节却不一致,可能原因是其所用数据的时间跨度(2002–2012年)不同于本研究。
近20年来,除了11月份,其他各月份渤海叶绿素a浓度都呈现稳定或增加趋势,其中4–9月增加趋势显著,5–8月增加量超过了30%,而10月和12月则基本无变化。1月叶绿素a浓度的年际波动较明显;1998–2014年,2月叶绿素a浓度呈波动增加趋势,2015年出现下降;3月叶绿素a浓度存在年际波动,但是增加趋势不明显;4月叶绿素a浓度年际波动明显,在2008年出现一个明显的相对低值;5月叶绿素a浓度年际波动不大,1998–2014年增加趋势明显,随后出现减少趋势;6月叶绿素a浓度年际波动不大,1998–2012年增加趋势明显,随后出现减少趋势;7月叶绿素a浓度年际波动不大,1998–2011年增加趋势明显,随后出现减少趋势;8月叶绿素a浓度存在年际波动,在2008年出现一个相对低值,1998–2011年增加趋势明显,随后出现减少趋势;9月叶绿素a浓度存在年际波动,在2008年出现一个相对低值,1998–2013年呈增加趋势,随后出现减少趋势;10月叶绿素a浓度,在2008年出现一个明显低值;11月叶绿素a浓度年际波动不大,在2015年出现一个明显低值;12月叶绿素a浓度具有年际波动现象(图5表3)。
1998–2017年渤海地区的大部分区域的全年叶绿素a浓度都呈增加趋势。其中,从滦河入海口沿岸至渤海海峡的渤海中部浓度增加较明显,而叶绿素a浓度下降的区域则主要局限在莱州湾、渤海湾和辽东湾的沿海地区(图1)。
近20年,在渤海的中部海域,春夏季叶绿素a浓度增加都较明显。在秦皇岛附近海域,各个季节叶绿素a浓度增加都较大,而渤海湾的大部分地区和黄河入海口附近海域在秋冬季节都呈现减少趋势(图6)。
4–9月,渤海中部地区叶绿素a浓度增加较大,其中8月增加幅度最大,2月、3月及10–12月,很多海域都出现了叶绿素a浓度减少趋势(图7)。
渤海叶绿素a浓度变化受到多种因素的影响,如光照、营养盐、河流径流量、海洋表面温度、混合层厚度、风速等[13, 30]。另外,渤海海水养殖面积较大,占全国的三分之二[31],水产养殖也会对浮游植物产生影响[32]。受到数据可获取性的限制和基于数据可靠性的考虑,我们主要分析反映河流径流量的近渤海区域的降水量和海洋表面温度以及风速对叶绿素a浓度的影响。
全年叶绿素a浓度变化与年降水量都呈增加趋势,可能原因是降水量增加使得径流量增加,从而陆地上有更多的营养物质输入至海洋,有利于浮游植物生长。夏季降水量增加也有利于浮游植物生长。另外,2月、6月、7月降水量增加也有利于浮游植物生长(表4)。多个时段的降水量数据与叶绿素a浓度变化相关,说明渤海浮游植物可能受陆源排放影响较大,这与栾青杉等[2]的研究一致。
秋季海洋表面温度的降低有利于表层海水的对流,从而增加营养盐的上涌,有利于浮游生物的生长,导致叶绿素a浓度的增加,叶绿素a浓度在2008年的8–10月都出现了相对其他年份的一个低值,这可能与同时期海洋表面温度相对较高,海水层化严重,不利于营养盐的上涌,从而导致浮游生物生长受限有关(图5表4)。夏季风速的加大有利于海水的上涌,从深层海水中带来更多的营养盐至海洋表面,有利于浮游生物的生长。6月和7月风速的加大导致同期海水上涌增强,有利于浮游生物的生长。但是,所有降水量、海洋表面温度、风速与叶绿素a浓度的相关系数都不大且不显著,说明影响浮游植物生长的环境因子可能比较复杂,没有绝对主导因子存在(表4)。
利用SeaWiFS和MODIS叶绿素a浓度数据,本文研究了近20年其在渤海地区的时空变化情况,并分析了导致该变化的影响因素。近20年,渤海全年叶绿素a浓度显著增加;所有季节也都呈现增加趋势,其中春季与夏季增加趋势显著;除11月外,其他各月也都呈现稳定或增加趋势。渤海中部全年叶绿素a浓度增加较明显,在莱州湾、渤海湾和辽东湾的沿海出现了浓度下降。在秦皇岛附近海域,各个时段叶绿素a浓度增加都较大。降水量、海洋表面温度、风速等都对叶绿素a浓度产生影响,其中代表径流量的降水量的影响相对较大,说明渤海浮游植物可能受陆源营养物质输入影响较大。本文对影响浮游植物生长因素的分析还不够全面,其他环境变量如混合层厚度、光照以及浮游植物优势种的变化也可能会影响叶绿素a浓度的变化,以后可以开展此方面的研究。
