In the real sea state, the differences in directions of component waves result in three-dimensional short-crested waves, which have many different characteristics compared to two-dimensional long-crested waves. Therefore, in present study, the whole generation and evolution processes of short-crested freak waves are experimentally simulated by dispersive and directional focusing of component waves, in order to examine the external features and relationship of the abnormal large waves occurring during the processes. The results indicate that the abnormal large wave evolves symmetrically along the peak wave direction and undergoes a three- or four-stage process, each stage is indicated by the characteristic parameters of the abnormal large wave, it implies that the characteristic parameters can be used to identify the stage which the large abnormal wave is in and predict the variation tendency; and that compared to the two-dimensional cases, the “wave group” and “deep trough” stages are likely to be skipped, as a result, the spatio-temporal spans of the generation and evolution processes are smaller for the three-dimensional cases, it implies that in three-dimensional wave fields, the deep troughs and successive large waves (wave group) associated with freak waves may have a low probability of occurrence.

在实际海况中,由于波浪组分方向不同,使海浪常表现为三维短峰波,与二维长峰波相比,有诸多异同特征。为了研究三维畸形波生成和演化过程中异常大波的外部特征以及大波间的关联,本文采用色散和方向聚焦方法在物理水池中模拟了短峰畸形波的整个生成和演化过程。研究结果表明,生成和演化过程中出现的异常大波沿着方向分布函数峰值方向演化,具有一定程度“对称”特征;根据异常大波的特征参数可将该过程分成3~4个典型的阶段,这意味着可以根据异常大波的特征参数判断其所处阶段及预测其演化趋势;三维畸形波生成和演化过程可能会跳过“波群”或者“深谷”阶段,与二维畸形波相比,时−空范围较小,这意味着在三维波浪场中,与畸形波相关的深谷和波群的发生概率较低。

在实际海况中,由于波浪组分方向不同,使海浪常表现为三维短峰波,与二维长峰波相比,有诸多异同特征。为了研究三维畸形波生成和演化过程中异常大波的外部特征以及大波间的关联,本文采用色散和方向聚焦方法在物理水池中模拟了短峰畸形波的整个生成和演化过程。研究结果表明,生成和演化过程中出现的异常大波沿着方向分布函数峰值方向演化,具有一定程度“对称”特征;根据异常大波的特征参数可将该过程分成3~4个典型的阶段,这意味着可以根据异常大波的特征参数判断其所处阶段及预测其演化趋势;三维畸形波生成和演化过程可能会跳过“波群”或者“深谷”阶段,与二维畸形波相比,时−空范围较小,这意味着在三维波浪场中,与畸形波相关的深谷和波群的发生概率较低。

In the real sea state, the differences in directions of component waves result in three-dimensional short-crested waves, which have many different characteristics compared to two-dimensional long-crested waves. Therefore, in present study, the whole generation and evolution processes of short-crested freak waves are experimentally simulated by dispersive and directional focusing of component waves, in order to examine the external features and relationship of the abnormal large waves occurring during the processes. The results indicate that the abnormal large wave evolves symmetrically along the peak wave direction and undergoes a three- or four-stage process, each stage is indicated by the characteristic parameters of the abnormal large wave, it implies that the characteristic parameters can be used to identify the stage which the large abnormal wave is in and predict the variation tendency; and that compared to the two-dimensional cases, the “wave group” and “deep trough” stages are likely to be skipped, as a result, the spatio-temporal spans of the generation and evolution processes are smaller for the three-dimensional cases, it implies that in three-dimensional wave fields, the deep troughs and successive large waves (wave group) associated with freak waves may have a low probability of occurrence.

畸形波也称为凶波,是一种具有强非线性、持续时间短和能量集中等特征的独立异常大波,它会对船舶和海上建筑物造成严重的危害。实测资料显示,畸形波广泛存在于世界各大海域,在它发生的同时还可能伴随海中深洞和连续大波等异常波浪现象,属于非常危险的灾难性波浪,需要被着重关注。
大浪常常成群出现,表现出明显的群性特征。Gemmrich和Thomson[1]基于实测资料,研究了波群的不对称特征,采用最大波峰在波群中的位置评估波群的不对称性程度,指出其与波群长度和无量纲峰值无关,而是与波群非线性程度正相关,随着波群陡度的增加,波群不对称程度加大,最大波发生位置靠近波群开始端。然而畸形波突出于周围波浪场,从外部波浪形态角度没表现出明显的群特性。崔成等[2]研究指出从内部能量的角度,畸形波表现出明显的群性,描述波浪群性的能量参数更适合描述畸形波的群性,间接表明畸形波与大波群有一定联系。Stansell[3-4]从北海14场强烈风暴795 h的定点波面实测记录中统计分析出104组畸形波和1组深谷,深谷谷值与有效波高的比值为1.4,间接反映了畸形波形成与“深谷”存在一定的联系。Cui等[5]采用完全非线性数学模型模拟了单向二维畸形波完整的生成和演化过程,并根据该过程中异常大波的演变特征,将畸形波的生成和演化过程分为7个有代表性阶段,进一步直接验证了畸形波、海中深洞和连续大波(波群)等异常波浪现象的关联性。
仅在二维或者方向分布范围很小的波浪场中,畸形波表现为长波峰波。而在真实的海况中,畸形波具有多向或短峰等三维特征,方向分布范围对畸形波的外部特征和动力特征均有较大影响。Fochesato等[6]的数值模拟结果显示,三维聚焦波的波峰和波谷均表现出弯曲特征。Barratt等[7]采用完全非线性势流模型模拟了窄谱三维陡聚焦波的演化过程,根据模拟结果解释了波峰和波谷发生弯曲这一现象的原因,指出三阶波−波相互作用会导致波群的边缘出现翼波,翼波与波峰相互作用会形成弯曲波峰。还有研究成果指出,加宽方向分布会减弱波−波相互作用,从而减小波面峰度和降低大波的发生概率,相应地使波高分布趋于瑞利分布[8-9]。Johannessen和Swan[10]进一步解释方向分布影响大波的非线性是由于波能在频域内分布受影响导致的。另外,方向分布会影响聚焦时间和破碎特征,方向分布加宽会导致聚焦波快速变陡,从而限制波能传递和平均波数的增长[11]。She等[12]指出如果聚焦陡波发生破碎,加宽方向分布会加大破碎波高和波峰处的水质点速度,对于方向分布较宽的情况,陡波倾向于发生卷破现象,相反对于方向分布较窄的情况,陡波倾向于发生崩破现象。
由此可见,方向分布对于解释畸形波现象非常重要。现有研究成果更多关注畸形波局部特征变化,很少有关于多向波浪场中整个畸形波生成和演化过程中畸形波与其他异常大波的关联及异常大波演化特征方面的成果。组成波聚焦是畸形波的生成机制之一,是一种常用的畸形波模拟方法,在实验室和数学模型中均可以使用该方法高效地模拟畸形波[13-15]。另外,基于调制不稳定机制[16]也可以成功地模拟畸形波。本研究基于组成波聚焦方法物理模拟了二维长峰畸形波和三维短峰畸形波的生成和演化过程。根据试验结果首先验证了文献[5]中关于二维数值模拟畸形波生成和演化过程的结论;并进一步分析三维畸形波生成和演化过程中异常大波特征参数的变化情况,及异常大波间的关联性,最后对比分析了长峰畸形波与短峰畸形波生成和演化过程的差异。
模拟二维畸形波所用的试验水槽为大连理工大学的浑水水槽,长56 m,宽1.5 m,试验水深为0.5 m。在水槽的一端布置一台推板式造波机,在水槽的另一端布置吸收边界用来吸收反射波波能。在水槽中心沿波浪传播方向布置一组线性仪器阵列用来采集畸形波生成、演化过程中的波面变化。仪器阵列由32根间距0.2 m的测波杆组成。图1给出了试验水槽和测量仪器布置图。
模拟三维畸形波所用的试验水池为大连理工大学的多功能综合水池,长55 m,宽34 m,试验水深为0.4 m。使用水池短边一侧所布置的70块造波板生成三维畸形波,每块造波板宽0.4 m,水池另外3端布置吸收边界。在水池中心沿方向分布峰值方向布置一组线性仪器阵列用来采集畸形波生成、演化过程中的波面变化,仪器阵列由18根测波杆组成。图2给出了试验水池和测波仪器的布置图,上图是俯视图,下图为垂向剖面图。
本研究中,将满足α1 > 2,α2 > 2,α3 > 2 和 α4 > 0.65的大波定义为畸形波[17]。其中,α1 = H0 /Hsα2 = H0 / H−1α3 = H0 / H+1α4 = η0 / H0H0表示大波波高, η0 表示大波波峰,H−1H+1分别表示大波前、后波浪的波高。采用双波列叠加模型计算造波信号,该模型将波能谱分成两部分,一部分为背景随机波列,另一部分为瞬态波列[18]。频谱选用修正PM谱:

文献[5]基于数值模拟结果,分析了二维畸形波的生成、演化过程。在该研究中,将满足畸形波参数α1 > 2的大波定义为异常大波,并根据典型异常大波的特征,将二维畸形波的生成、演化过程分为7个代表性的阶段。为了进一步验证二维波浪场中畸形波的生成、演化特征,本研究基于物理模型试验结果分析了该过程中异常大波的演化特征。需要说明,文献[5]中畸形波参数统计采用上跨零点法,为了与其对比,此处畸形波参数统计也采用上跨零点法。图3给出了模拟频谱和目标谱的对比,从图中可以看出,目标谱和模拟谱基本吻合,在模拟谱中,部分谱峰附近的能量转移到了高频端和低频端,这是因为在畸形波的形成过程中,能量汇聚引发了波−波相互作用使能量向高频端和低频端转移。
图4给出了二维物理模拟畸形波生成、演化过程中典型异常大波的无量纲波面时间过程。波面采用有效波高Hs无量纲化,周期采用聚焦时间tc和有效周期Ts进行中心无量纲化,其中,Hs = 4.0 cm,Ts = 1.05 s。从图中可以看出,与数值模拟结果一致,二维物理模拟畸形波生成、演化过程也可以分成7个典型阶段,共出现5种典型异常大波,以畸形波为中心,前、后异常大波的演化有一定对称特征。
在第1阶段,最大波仅满足α1 > 2,与相邻的高波一起表现为连续大波或者波群(图4a),也有学者称之为“Three Sisters”[20];在第2阶段,最大波满足α1 > 2和α2 > 2,表现为一个深波谷(图4b),有学者称之为“hole in the sea” [3-4];在第3阶段,最大波满足α1 > 2,α3 > 2和α4 > 2,表现为一个左侧谷值较大的独立大波(图4c);在第4阶段,最大波满足α1 > 2,α2 > 2,α3 > 2和α4 > 0.65,满足4条畸形波定义标准,表现为畸形波(图4d);在第5阶段,最大波满足α1 > 2,α2 > 2和α3 > 2,表现为一个右侧谷值较大的独立大波(图4e),波高有时可能超过畸形波;在第6阶段,最大波满足α1 > 2和α2 > 2,也表现为深谷(图4f),与阶段2的异常大波类型相同;第7阶段,最大波仅满足α1 > 2,与相邻的高波一起表现为连续大波或者波群(图4g),与阶段1的异常大波类型相同。一般地,二维畸形波生成、演化过程会包括上述7个有代表性的典型阶段,有时可能会缺少某些阶段。
通过图4还可以看出,在二维畸形波生成、演化过程中,随着异常大波演化,波峰和波谷值不断发生变化,受跨零点法的影响,最大波波高不是一直以渐变的方式演变,会在相邻两个波浪之间发生“突变”。以上跨零点法为例,第2阶段的深谷(图4b)在演化过程中,波谷右侧的峰值逐渐增大,趋向于形成新的最大波(图4c,满足α1 > 2, α3 > 2 和 α4 > 2),从而取代原来的最大波(图4b,满足α1 > 2 和 α2 > 2),最大波的波峰会由深谷左侧的波峰变为深谷右侧的波峰,相应的最大波的波谷会由深谷变为深谷右侧的波谷,此时虽然波面是逐渐发生变化,但是最大波的波高会发生“突变”。这一现象是由统计方法造成的,而非物理现象本质。在第3阶段,最大波波峰左侧的波谷是上阶段深谷演化的结果,仍然较大,但是采用上跨零点法统计波高用到的却是波峰右侧的波谷,波峰左侧较大的谷值会被忽略,这会低估异常大波的波高。相似地,由于畸形波生成、演化过程的对称特征,如果采用下跨零点法统计波高,则会低估第5阶段异常大波的波高。
因此,在本研究中,为了更准确描述异常大波特征,同时采用上跨零点和下跨零点两种方法统计畸形波的特征参数,α1α2α3α4,并采用脚标“up”和“down”分别表示两种跨零点方法。
为了方便,本研究中将第1和第7阶段中仅满足α1-up > 2 或者 α1-down > 2的异常大波称为type I大波(图4a图4g);将第2和第6阶段中满足α1-up > 2, α2-up > 2 或者 α1-down > 2, α3-down > 2的异常大波称为type II大波(图4b图4f);将第3阶段中满足α1-up > 2, α3-up > 2, α4-up > 2 或者 α1-down > 2, α2-down > 2, α3-down > 2的异常大波称为type III大波(图4c);将第4阶段中满足α1-up > 2, α2-up > 2, α3-up > 2, α4-up> 2 或 α1-down > 2, α2-down > 2, α3-down > 2, α4-down > 2的异常大波(畸形波)称为type IV大波(图4d);将第5阶段中满足α1-up > 2, α2-up > 2, α3-up > 2 或者 α1-down > 2, α2-down > 2, α4-down > 2的异常大波称为type V大波。也就是对于畸形波生成、演化过程中出现的异常大波,同时采用两种跨零方法统计其特征参数,其中一种跨零参数满足条件α1 > 2即可视为异常大波。相对于仅采用一种跨零点法,同时采用两种跨零点法能更准确和全面描述异常大波特征。表1给出了图4中异常大波特征参数的统计结果。从表1中可以看出,对于描述异常大波主要参数α1而言,两种跨零点方法的统计结果差异主要体现在type III和type V大波,是因为这两种异常大波波峰两侧波谷值差异较大,type III大波从深谷演化而来,type V大波有演化为深谷的趋势,两种异常大波均与深谷有关联。对于第1阶段、第2阶段、第6阶段和第7阶段中的异常大波,两种跨零点法统计的α1基本一致,这意味着如果二维畸形波生成、演化过程开始于第1阶段或者第2阶段,结束于第6阶段或者第7阶段,从描述该过程时−空范围的角度,仅用一种跨零点方法即可。
与3.1节中二维畸形波相同,根据异常大波所满足的畸形波参数,将三维畸形波生成、演化过程划分成不同阶段,相应的每个阶段代表性的典型异常大波的标准也相同。表2统计给出6组三维畸形波生成、演化过程中各代表性阶段典型异常大波的畸形波参数。其中,tc表示聚焦时刻;xc表示聚焦位置的x坐标;tm表示异常大波峰值对应的时刻,对于II型异常大波,tm表示谷值对应的时刻;xm表示异常大波发生的位置的x坐标;Ts表示有效周期;Ls表示有效周期对应的波长,由线性色散关系计算。
图5给出了目标方向谱与模拟方向谱的对比。从图中可以看出目标谱和模拟谱基本吻合。与二维畸形波相似,在模拟频谱中,部分谱峰附近的能量转移到了高频端和低频端,这是因为在畸形波的形成过程中,能量汇聚引发了波−波相互作用使能量向高频端和低频端转移。模拟方向函数的峰值略大,是因为与峰值方向相近的组成波更容易传播至波能聚焦位置。
图6图7图8图9给出了不同工况三维畸形波生成、演化过程中各代表性阶段典型异常大波的无量纲波面时间过程。波面采用有效波高Hs无量纲化,周期采用聚焦时间tc和有效周期Ts进行中心无量纲化,其中,6组三维畸形波的Hs分别为3.5 cm、5.5 cm、7.5 cm、4.0 cm、6.0 cm和3.5 cm,Ts分别为1.5 s、1.5 s、1.5 s、1.8 s、1.7 s和2.0 s。
图6表2表3可知,如果采用下跨零点参数描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程,则图6d中type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该过程从第2阶段开始到第5阶段结束;如果采用上跨零点参数描述该过程则图6d中的type IV大波还未到达该过程的结束阶段,而图6e中type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该过程从第2阶段开始到第5阶段结束。虽然采用两种跨零点法描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程的结束阶段都是第5阶段,但是到达结束阶段的时间和空间位置不同,对应异常大波的形态也不同,表现出差异。
图7表2表3可知,如果采用下跨零点参数描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程,则图7c中type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该过程从第3阶段开始到第5阶段结束;如果采用上跨零点参数描述该过程则图7c中type V大波的参数α1还未到临界值2.0,异常大波的演化过程还未结束,图7d中type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该过程从第3阶段开始到第5阶段结束。虽然采用两种跨零点法描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程的结束阶段都是第5阶段,但是到达结束阶段的时间和空间位置不同,对应异常大波的形态也不同,该组工况也表现出差异。
图8表2表3可知,如果采用下跨零点参数描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程则图8a中的type II大波为该过程的开始阶段,图8d中的type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该过程从第2阶段开始到第5阶段结束;如果采用上跨零点参数描述该过程则图8b中的type III大波为该过程的开始阶段,图8f中的type II大波为该过程的结束阶段,该组工况从第3阶段开始到第6阶段结束。采用两种跨零点法描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程,开始阶段和结束阶段均不相同,表现出明显差异。
图9表2表3可知,如果采用下跨零点参数描述该组三维畸形波的生成、演化过程,则图9a中的type III大波为该过程的开始阶段,图9d中的type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该过程从第3阶段开始到第5阶段结束;如果采用上跨零点参数描述该过程则图9b中的type III大波为该过程的开始阶段,图9e中的type V大波为该过程的结束阶段,该组工况从第3阶段开始到第5阶段结束。虽然采用两种跨零点法描述该组三维畸形波生成、演化过程的开始阶段均为第3阶段,结束阶段均为第5阶段,但是到达相应阶段的时间和空间位置不同,对应异常大波的形态也不同,该组工况也表现出明显差异。
从当前实验可知,在三维短峰畸形波生成、演化过程中,异常大波主要沿方向分布峰值方向传播和演化,以畸形波为中心,前后异常大波的演化有一定对称特征,该过程可划分为3~4个典型阶段;三维畸形波生成、演化过程开始阶段可能是第2阶段(工况1和3)或者第3阶段(工况2、4、5和6),对应形成的异常大波为type II大波(深谷)或者type III大波。与二维工况不同,生成、演化过程开始阶段未形成type I大波,可能跳过1或2个阶段直接从第2或者第3阶段开始。这是因为在多向波浪场中,在主波向上能量聚焦时空范围减小了。
在type II大波的演化过程中,大波谷逐渐减小,右侧峰值逐渐增大,当形成较大的峰值时,异常大波演化为type III大波,随后这个变化持续,当大峰值两侧波谷值接近时,异常大波发展为畸形波,进入到第4阶段。在畸形波的演化过程中,随着峰值右侧波谷逐渐增大,异常大波逐渐演化为type V大波,在初期type V大波的波高可能大于畸形波。随着谷值继续增大,峰值逐渐减小,异常大波会再次演化为type II大波。
三维畸形波的生成、演化过程的结束阶段可能是第6阶段(工况3、5和6)或者第5阶段(工况1、2和4),对应形成的异常大波为type II大波或者type V大波。与二维工况不同,生成、演化过程结束阶段未形成type I大波。异常大波演化过程提前结束,这是因为在多向波浪场中,在主波向上能量聚焦时空范围减小了。
如果该过程开始于第3阶段,采用下跨零点法统计参数,type III大波发生的更早(图9a图9b),因为type III大波左侧的波谷值较大;如果该过程结束于第5阶段,采用上跨零点法统计参数,type V大波结束的更晚(图6d图6e图7c图7d图9d图9e),因为type V大波右侧的波谷值更大。因此建议采用两种跨零点方法统计异常大波特征参数来描述三维畸形波生成、演化过程。
对于当前6组三维畸形波,如果采用上跨零点法统计特征参数,生成、演化过程的持续时间为1.2~2.7倍有效周期(Ts),异常大波在该时段内传播的空间距离为0.8~2.1倍有效波长(Ls);如果采用下跨零点法统计特征参数,生成、演化过程的持续时间为0.2~2.5倍有效周期(Ts),异常大波在该时段内传播的空间距离为0.2~1.9倍有效波长(Ls);如果同时考虑两种跨零点方法统计特征参数,生成、演化过程的持续时间为1.2~3.3倍有效周期(Ts),异常大波在该时段内传播的空间距离为0.8~2.4倍有效波长(Ls)。根据文献[5],二维畸形波生成、演化过程的持续时间5~15倍有效周期(Ts),异常大波在该时段内传播的空间距离为3~7倍有效波长(Ls)。由此可见,三维畸形波生成、演化过程的时空范围明显小于二维畸形波,这是因为本研究中畸形波生成是基于组成波聚焦机制,对于三维畸形波,组成波从多个方向传播至聚焦位置,而在畸形波的生成和演化过程中,异常大波的传播和演化主要在方向分布的峰值方向,因此在主传播方向上,能量聚焦的程度和时空范围减小了。
基于不同方向、频率组成波聚焦原理,物理模拟了二维畸形波和三维畸形波的生成、演化过程。对于二维工况,与文献[5]中数值模拟的结论一致,二维畸形波生成、演化过程可分为7个典型阶段。类似的,根据异常大波的演化特征,将三维畸形波生成、演化过程分为3~4个典型阶段。由于组成波从多个方向传播至聚焦位置,而在畸形波的生成和演化过程中,异常大波的传播和演化主要在方向分布的峰值方向,因此在主传播方向上,能量聚焦的程度和时空范围减小了。本研究范围内,三维畸形波的生成、演化过程没有“波群”阶段,部分工况没有“深谷”阶段。由此可知,在多向波浪场中,与畸形波形成有关的“深谷”和“波群”异常波浪现象的发生概率会小于单向波浪场。付睿丽等[21]研究指出异常大波发生概率还与频谱宽相关。另外,对于type III和type V大波,由于波峰两侧谷值相差较大,建议采用两种跨零点方法统计特征参数。
一般普遍认为α1α4是描述异常大波重要的特征参数,或者仅用一个参数α1描述异常大波,经常忽略参数α2α3。在本研究中,α2α3对于异常大波而言也很重要,参数α2α3虽然没有直接描述畸形波的特征,但是描述了畸形波与相邻波高的关系。明确了异常大波之间的演化关系,可以根据异常大波的特征参数包括α1α2α3α4,描述异常大波之间的关联以及预测目标异常大波所处阶段及演化趋势。
另外,波浪破碎对于畸形波生成、演化过程的影响也不能忽视,在形成畸形波时,波能高度集中,可能会发生波浪破碎,波浪破碎会使波高减小,导致大波不满足异常大波的条件,从而结束异常大波的演化过程。
