This article is focus on the distribution and source of organic matter in tidal flat in the Jiulong River Estuary, and to seek effective organic geochemistry proxies for recognize sedimentary microfacies, and thus to help that organic carbon is better applied to identify sedimentary microfacies and paleo-environment. Forty one surficial sediment samples were obtained and measured their grain size, total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), and organic carbon stable isotopes (δ13C) in the tidal flat from three sedimentary environments: upper tidal flat, middle tidal flat and lower tidal flat in summer and winter. The results show that, from upper tidal flat to lower tidal flat, the grain size of sediments becomes coarser gradually with decreasing TOC, TN and C/N, and the increase of δ13C. The sources of organic matter in the upper tidal flat are dominated by terrestrial organic matter and mangrove, marine organic matter and Spartina alterniflora in middle tidal, and marine organic matter in lower tidal flat. The distribution and sources of organic carbon in tidal flat from the Jiulong River Estuary are controlled by the seasonal changes of land-ocean interaction, sedimentary hydrodynamic sorting, and plants. There is a significant difference in TOC, and a highly significant difference in TN and δ13C in sediments of the tidal flat. We thus proposed that organic geochemistry properties TOC, TN and δ13C are the effective indicators to identify upper tidal flat and middle-lower tidal flat in the Jiulong River Estuary.

本研究旨在揭示九龙江口潮滩有机质含量及其来源的时空分异规律,寻找有效识别潮滩沉积环境的有机碳指标,以便更好地将有机碳应用于河口沉积微相识别和古环境研究。在九龙江口潮滩不同地貌单元,于夏季和冬季采集41个表层沉积物,进行粒度、总有机碳(TOC)、总氮(TN)和稳定碳同位素(δ13C)测试。结果显示:从高潮滩至低潮滩,沉积物粒度逐渐变粗,TOC、TN和C/N变小,δ13C值偏正。高潮滩有机质来源以陆源和红树林贡献为主,中潮滩以海源和互花米草贡献为主,低潮滩以海源贡献为主。九龙江口潮滩有机质的分布和来源受控于河口陆海相互作用的季节变化、潮滩沉积动力分异和潮滩植被分布。高潮滩与中–低潮滩之间,TOC存在显著性差异,TN、δ13C存在极显著性差异,因此参数组合TOC、TN和δ13C可作为高潮滩与中–低潮滩的有效判别指标。

本研究旨在揭示九龙江口潮滩有机质含量及其来源的时空分异规律,寻找有效识别潮滩沉积环境的有机碳指标,以便更好地将有机碳应用于河口沉积微相识别和古环境研究。在九龙江口潮滩不同地貌单元,于夏季和冬季采集41个表层沉积物,进行粒度、总有机碳(TOC)、总氮(TN)和稳定碳同位素(δ13C)测试。结果显示:从高潮滩至低潮滩,沉积物粒度逐渐变粗,TOC、TN和C/N变小,δ13C值偏正。高潮滩有机质来源以陆源和红树林贡献为主,中潮滩以海源和互花米草贡献为主,低潮滩以海源贡献为主。九龙江口潮滩有机质的分布和来源受控于河口陆海相互作用的季节变化、潮滩沉积动力分异和潮滩植被分布。高潮滩与中–低潮滩之间,TOC存在显著性差异,TN、δ13C存在极显著性差异,因此参数组合TOC、TN和δ13C可作为高潮滩与中–低潮滩的有效判别指标。

This article is focus on the distribution and source of organic matter in tidal flat in the Jiulong River Estuary, and to seek effective organic geochemistry proxies for recognize sedimentary microfacies, and thus to help that organic carbon is better applied to identify sedimentary microfacies and paleo-environment. Forty one surficial sediment samples were obtained and measured their grain size, total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), and organic carbon stable isotopes (δ13C) in the tidal flat from three sedimentary environments: upper tidal flat, middle tidal flat and lower tidal flat in summer and winter. The results show that, from upper tidal flat to lower tidal flat, the grain size of sediments becomes coarser gradually with decreasing TOC, TN and C/N, and the increase of δ13C. The sources of organic matter in the upper tidal flat are dominated by terrestrial organic matter and mangrove, marine organic matter and Spartina alterniflora in middle tidal, and marine organic matter in lower tidal flat. The distribution and sources of organic carbon in tidal flat from the Jiulong River Estuary are controlled by the seasonal changes of land-ocean interaction, sedimentary hydrodynamic sorting, and plants. There is a significant difference in TOC, and a highly significant difference in TN and δ13C in sediments of the tidal flat. We thus proposed that organic geochemistry properties TOC, TN and δ13C are the effective indicators to identify upper tidal flat and middle-lower tidal flat in the Jiulong River Estuary.

潮滩是入海河口的重要地貌单元,具有独特的水文、沉积和生物特征。受潮汐、径流及河口环流影响,潮滩由海向陆潮汐作用强度变小、淹没时长变短[1],枯水期主要受海水影响,洪水期径流影响增加[2]。潮滩沉积动力在涨、落潮期间较强,高潮憩流较弱,沉积物由陆向海变粗、分选性变好、生物扰动变弱[3]。潮间带位于平均大潮低潮线和平均大潮高潮线之间,其沉积相在高潮滩以水平纹层为主,沉积物主要为粉砂质泥,含大量生物虫孔;中潮滩粉砂和粉砂质泥互层,具波状泥质粉砂;低潮滩波纹交错层理,主要沉积粗粉砂[4]。潮间带的植被,高潮滩主要为芦苇或红树林,中潮滩多为互花米草和藨草,低潮滩为光滩[5]。因此潮滩接收陆源、海源和潮滩自生有机质。
在河口古环境研究中,沉积相识别尤为重要,但因地层中潮滩沉积构造和岩性与河口湾、前三角洲等细颗粒沉积相十分相似而难以识别[6-7],给古沉积环境判别带来困难。相似的沉积构造和岩性也妨碍潮滩沉积微相的识别,这使全新世基底的盐沼–潮滩沉积微相及地层方法重建全新世高精度海平面曲线的研究受到限制[7-9]。因此,潮滩微相识别的沉积学研究具有重要意义。要识别地层中的潮滩微相,首先应寻找区分现代潮滩微相的代用指标。
沉积物的总有机碳(TOC)/总氮(TN)(C/N)和δ13C是指示不同来源有机碳积累的有效指标,如海洋藻类、淡水藻类和陆源C3/C4植被[10]。Lamb等[10]指出,早期成岩作用对有机质来源的判别影响较小,δ13C和C/N的变化可以指示有机碳来源和埋藏条件的变化。近几十年来,δ13C和C/N已广泛应用于沿海地区和河口的表层和钻孔沉积物碳积累研究[11-13]、有机质溯源[14-15]、富营养化[16]、全新世河口水文–沉积–动力过程[17]、入海径流量和海平面波动[10, 18-22]以及区分沉积相[23-24]。Jiang等[25]研究发现湄公河三角洲表层沉积物有机地球化学组成能很好地反映潮汐、河口环流等动力过程。目前中国潮滩有机质来源研究主要集中在黄河口、长江口、苏北、象山港等地[2, 26-30],南方潮滩特别是有红树林分布的潮滩有机质研究少有报道。
周期性潮汐淹没形成的厌氧环境,抑制了潮滩有机质的分解过程[5],在垂向上的碳埋藏速率是陆地生态系统的数十倍以上[1],因此潮滩是海岸带蓝碳的主要碳库[31],也是海岸带蓝碳、碳中和研究的重要内容[1]。本研究在九龙江河口潮滩不同地貌部位采集表层沉积物,进行粒度和有机碳测试,利用潮滩动力、沉积和生物特征蕴含的有机碳潜在分异规律,试图弄清亚热带中小山溪性强潮河口潮滩有机碳的时空分布格局,寻找有效识别潮滩微相的有机碳指标,本研究对河口地层沉积相识别、海岸带蓝碳、碳中和等有重要意义。
九龙江是南亚热带山溪性中小河流,流域面积为1.47×104 km2[32],为福建省第二大河。九龙江流域为南亚热带海洋性湿润季风气候,年均降水量为1 400~1 800 mm,集中在4–9月,约占全年75%,夏秋季多台风[33]。主要支流北溪和西溪年均径流量分别为8.27×109 m3和3.70×109 m3,年均含沙量分别为0.206 kg/m3和0.210 kg/m3[34]。九龙江口为非正规半日浅海潮的强潮河口,潮流特征为往复流,平均潮差为3.99 m,最大潮差为6.42 m[35]。受入海径流、潮流影响,涨潮流偏河口北岸入侵,落潮流和径流偏南岸入海,此外,以鸡屿为中心形成逆时针河口余流[36]。南港为径流入海的主要通道(图1a),北港逐渐淤浅,河口湾水下地形向海倾斜,坡度约为2‰。在三角洲平原与河口湾的交汇地带发育淤泥质潮滩,其中以浒茂洲东部潮滩面积最大,约为5.1 km2图1b),为淤涨型潮滩[37],是福建省九龙江口红树林湿地保护区面积最大的湿地,海拔约为0~3 m[38]
浒茂洲东部潮滩的地势由陆向海倾斜,各地貌部位受潮流作用强度和时间差异,形成微地貌分异[39-40]。平均大潮高潮线与最高高潮线间为潮上带[39],在研究区已围垦,以海堤与潮间带相隔。平均大潮低潮线与平均大潮高潮线间为潮间带,潮间带分为高、中、低潮滩。高潮滩位于平均小潮高潮线与平均大潮高潮线间,海水淹没时间最短,在浒茂洲东部潮滩主要生长红树林(图1b);平均小潮低潮线和平均小潮高潮线之间为中潮滩,主要植被是互花米草;平均大潮低潮线和平均小潮低潮线之间的部位为低潮滩[39],无植被生长。本研究根据浒茂洲东部潮滩微地貌特征将其划分为3个地貌单元:高潮滩、中潮滩和低潮滩(图1b),于2020年1月(冬季)和6月(夏季)分别获取20、21个沉积物(图1b表1)。表层沉积物采集于边长10 cm的方格,采样厚度约为1 cm。样品用聚乙烯自封袋封装后立即带回实验室冷冻保存。
粒度前处理和测试:表层沉积物40℃烘干,取约0.2 g置入烧杯,加入10 mL浓度10%的H2O2和浓度10%的HCl,分别去除有机质和碳酸钙。反应4 h后加满去离子水,静置约12 h,之后去除上清液,加入约5 mL浓度5%的六偏磷酸钠,将烧杯置入超声波仪分散15 min,之后使用美国Beckman Coulter公司生产的激光粒度仪(LS13320)测量。将沉积物粒度原始数据导入软件LS13320,绘制粒度频率曲线,输出Excel格式后筛选得出粒度组分、平均粒径、中值粒径、众数等粒度参数。沉积物粒级根据其颗粒大小划分,颗粒小于4 μm为黏土,4~63 μm为粉砂,大于63 μm为砂。粒度测试在华东师范大学河口海岸学国家重点实验室完成。
TOC、TN和δ13C前处理和测试:取约20 g样品,置于冷冻干燥机干燥24~28 h。干燥样品用玛瑙研钵研磨,40℃烘干后称取约3 g置入25 mL烧杯。滴入浓度为1 mol/L的稀盐酸20 mL,反应6 h,期间每小时搅拌一次,之后加满去离子水,沉淀12 h,去除上清液,重复6~7次,直至pH在6~7之间。将装有样品的烧杯再次置入烘箱,40 ℃烘干后装袋待测。TOC和TN用有机元素分析仪(Vario Cube CN EA1110, Germany)测试,误差小于0.5%;δ13C用稳定同位素质谱仪(Delta V Advantage)测试,误差小于0.2‰。TOC、TN和δ13C测试在自然资源部第三海洋研究所完成。
粒度分析结果见表1表2图2图3。夏季,高潮滩沉积物以黏土质粉砂为主(表1),粒度频率曲线呈宽缓的多峰(图2a),主峰粒径为8.54~11.29 μm,次峰为0.30~0.39 μm;黏土粒度组分均值为44.4%,粉砂为52.3%,砂为3.3%(图3);平均粒径为8.0~24.2 μm。中潮滩以黏土质粉砂为主,频率曲线右偏,有2~3个峰(图2b),主峰粒径为9.37~11.29 μm,次峰为0.33~0.36 μm,其中4个样品的第3个峰值为185.4~203.5 μm;黏土粒度组分均值为42.6%,粉砂为52.3%,砂为5.1%;平均粒径为10.4~32.3 μm。低潮滩包括黏土质粉砂、砂质粉砂和粉砂质砂,频率曲线为宽缓多峰型,右偏程度大(图2c),主峰粒径为140.1~245.2 μm,次峰为10.29~11.30 μm;其中T18−T20的第3个峰值为168.9~245.2 μm;黏土粒度组分均值为30.5%,粉砂为48.3%,砂为21.2%;平均粒径为20.2~114.6 μm。
冬季,3个地貌单元沉积物岩性均以黏土质粉砂为主。高潮滩粒度频率曲线呈双峰型(图2d),主峰粒径为8.54~9.37 μm,次峰为0.33~0.36 μm;黏土粒度组分均值为45.9%,粉砂为51.2%,砂为2.9%;平均粒径为8.6~15.1 μm。中潮滩呈宽缓多峰(图2e),主峰粒径为8.536~11.290 μm,次峰为26.41~28.70 μm,粗颗粒样品第3峰值为185.4~245.2 μm;黏土粒度组分均值为42.8%,粉砂为50.0%,砂为7.2%;平均粒径为12.3~39.5 μm。低潮滩呈宽缓多峰,峰态再次右偏(图2f),主峰粒径为8.54~10.30 μm,次峰为127.6~185.4 μm;黏土粒度组分均值为42.6%,粉砂为49.1%,砂为8.4%;平均粒径为12.7~29.7 μm。
综上,研究区沉积物自陆向海黏土含量减少,砂的比例增加,峰态逐渐右偏,平均粒径增大,反映粒径由高潮滩向低潮滩变粗。高、中潮滩粒度的季节变化较小,而低潮滩夏季显著粗于冬季。
有机碳分析结果包括TOC、TN、C/N(TOC/TN)和δ13C的季节和空间分布,见图4表3
夏季TOC含量在0.74%~2.08%之间,由高潮滩向低潮滩降低,高潮滩呈显著高值(图4)。冬季TOC含量在1.01%~1.92%之间,由陆向海的空间分布趋势与夏季一致。冬季高潮滩TOC含量较夏季低,而低潮滩较夏季高。
夏季TN含量在0.09%~0.22%之间,由高潮滩向低潮滩降低,低潮滩呈显著低值(图4)。冬季TN含量在0.14%~0.22%之间,空间分布与夏季一致,中、低潮滩均值较为接近。冬季TN在高、中潮滩的均值与夏季较为接近,但在低潮滩显著高于夏季。
夏季C/N比值在6.14~10.06之间,高、中、低潮滩均值分别为8.13、7.38和8.07(图4);冬季C/N比值在6.21~9.23之间,由陆向海逐渐降低,高、中、低潮滩均值分别为7.45、7.20和7.11。冬季各地貌单元的C/N均值均低于夏季。
夏季δ13C分布于–25.81‰~–23.08‰之间,总体由高潮滩向低潮滩偏负(图4)。冬季δ13C在–25.99‰~–22.98‰之间,由陆向海逐渐偏正,高、中、低潮滩的均值分别为–24.73‰、–23.76‰、–23.44‰。δ13C的季节分布,总体上冬季较夏季偏正。
河口潮滩是海岸带蓝碳和碳中和研究的重要地带,也是生态系统多样性研究的热点,其沉积物有机物源包括陆地、海洋和河口自生。陆源有机质主要来自淡水颗粒有机碳(POC)、淡水藻类、C3植物碎屑和C4植物碎屑;海源有机质主要来自海洋POC、海洋藻类和细菌;九龙江口潮滩自生有机质主要来自红树林碎屑、互花米草碎屑、工农业废水、动物和微生物残体等。潮滩是河流与海洋有机物的汇聚沉积环境,因此首先分析陆源和海源有机质的贡献。将潮滩沉积物δ13C和C/N投影到Lamb等[10]全球海岸带沉积物有机质来源分布模式图上,判断有机质来源。结果显示,夏季高潮滩沉积物主要落入淡水POC和淡水藻类范围,反映陆源有机质的主要贡献;中潮滩均落入海洋POC和海洋藻类(图5a),反映海洋有机质的主要贡献;低潮滩多落入海洋POC、海洋藻类和细菌,2个样品落入淡水藻类,也反映海源有机质的主要贡献。冬季高潮滩沉积物4个样品落入淡水POC和淡水藻类范围,3个样品落入海洋POC和海洋藻类(图5b),反映海源、陆源有机质的混合;中潮滩和低潮滩样品均落入海洋POC、海洋藻类和细菌范围,反映海源有机质的主要贡献。综上,有机质来源高潮滩以陆源为主,中、低潮滩海洋有机质贡献主导,冬季海源贡献增加。
九龙江河口的高潮滩分布红树林,中潮滩分布互花米草,红树林碎屑和互花米草碎屑是潮滩主要的自生有机质,它们对潮滩沉积物有机质有重要贡献。利用区域陆源、海源、红树林和互花米草的稳定碳同位素端元值(不考虑其他来源),通过稳定同位素混合模型(IsoSourceV1.3.1)软件[41-42],分析这4个端元对潮滩沉积物有机质来源的贡献比例。九龙江口潮滩沉积物有机质来源贡献中各端元的稳定碳同位素值:陆源端元采用九龙江颗粒有机物(POM),其碳同位素值为–25.29‰[43],海源端元采用海洋浮游植物,碳同位素值为–20.9‰[41],红树林端元采用当地优势种秋茄,碳同位素值为–28.77‰[43],互花米草端元采用当地互花米草,碳同位素值为–15.63‰[43]。结果显示(表4图6),陆源POM贡献率在潮滩各地貌单元的冬、夏季均超过30%,揭示河流携带的陆源有机质是潮滩沉积物有机质的主要来源。各地貌单元之间,陆源贡献率总体由高潮滩向低潮滩(向海)降低,冬季更为明显。海洋浮游植物贡献率,高潮滩最低,总体向海增加,这与高潮滩海水淹没时长最长、低潮滩淹没时长最短的规律一致。红树林贡献率,高潮滩呈显著高值(各季均高于35%),高于陆源POM的贡献率,反映红树林碎屑对高潮滩沉积物有机质的主要贡献。互花米草贡献率,中潮滩夏季呈现高值,冬季次高值,与互花米草主要生长在中潮滩的分布基本一致。稳定同位素混合模型分析的陆、海有机质来源比例在时空分布上与Lamb模式图的有机质来源结果基本吻合,反映有机质来源的时空分布受控于河口和潮滩的水动力环境。
季节分布上,有机碳指标TOC在高潮滩夏季高于冬季、C/N在各潮滩微相夏季均高于冬季、δ13C夏季较冬季偏负,反映潮滩有机质受季节变化影响,夏季陆源有机质信号增强。九龙江流域位于亚热带季风区,洪季陆源输入占绝对优势,径流携带的POC和淡水藻类沉积在潮滩,这与九龙江年径流量和年输沙量的季节变化一致[34]。枯季径流变小,且九龙江口为强潮河口[36],海洋作用强烈,因此主要受潮流作用。同时冬季河口存在高盐水沿鸡屿以北从河口底部上涌到河口湾顶部的河口环流也有一定作用[44]。此外,有机质来源的季节变化表明,夏季高潮滩和低潮滩的陆源信号较冬季强,也揭示夏季径流影响。但夏季TOC在低潮滩低于冬季、δ13C偏负,指示陆源信号更强,原因可能是低潮滩靠近分流汊道(图1b),夏季受径流携带的陆源输入影响。
空间分布上,排除误差干扰的前提下,总体上由陆向海TOC、TN、C/N降低,δ13C偏正,反映海源有机质信号增强,陆源贡献率降低,且高潮滩陆源信号显著偏强。上述指标变化与粒径向海逐渐变粗指示的水动力变化特征趋势一致(图2图3),揭示有机碳指标、有机质来源和陆源贡献率受潮滩沉积动力控制。首先,潮汐对潮滩作用的强度和时长由陆向海增加,中、低潮滩主要受涨落潮影响,流速快,沉积动力强,而高潮滩主要受涨落潮间的憩流影响,沉积环境相对稳定,动力弱。中、低潮滩海水淹没的时间长,海源有机质增加。其次,TOC、TN分布受沉积动力影响。受潮汐动力作用,黏土含量由海向陆增加,这与TOC、TN空间变化有较强的相关性(图7),相关系数R2分别为0.501、0.833,也反映有机质富集于细颗粒沉积物[45]。再次,在潮滩环境和沉积动力作用下,九龙江口潮滩植物分带明显:高潮滩主要为红树林,中潮滩主要为互花米草。红树林是陆源C3植物,其δ13C均值在九龙江口为–28.77‰[43],而互花米草为C4植物,δ13C为–15.63‰[43]。红树林凋落物贡献高潮滩沉积物有机质,中潮滩海源有机质信号很大程度上受互花米草影响。
总之,陆源有机质贡献的季节变化,揭示潮滩有机质来源受控于入海径流的季节变化。海源有机质信号由高潮滩向低潮滩增强,反映有机质受潮汐动力控制和潮滩植被影响。
位于高潮滩和潮上带的滨海盐沼是高精度海平面重建的关键地层[7-9],识别地层中滨海盐沼与中、低潮滩的沉积微相对海平面重建和古环境研究有重要意义。本研究结果显示高潮滩TOC、TN较中、低潮滩呈现显著高值,δ13C显著偏负。箱形图可判断上述指标的差异性,图8显示,TOC、TN和δ13C在高潮滩和中–低潮滩之间差异较显著,进一步做t检验,检查两组数据之间差异的显著性,t检验结果显示TOC在夏季和冬季的P值分别为0.01和0.019(图8a),均小于0.05,反映两组数据间存在显著性差异;TN、δ13C在夏季和冬季P值均小于0.01(图8b图8c),显著性超过99%,反映极显著性差异。尽管有机质沉积后会受到降解、再矿化等早期成岩作用改造[46-47],但潮滩在周期性潮汐淹没下形成的厌氧环境能有效抑制有机质的分解过程,且九龙江口潮滩具有较高的沉积速率[37],有机质可得到较好保存[5]。罗专溪等[38]研究九龙江口潮滩植物掉落物1 a的降解速率,红树林约为20.2%,互花米草约为9.0%。Lamb等[10]也指出,早期成岩作用对有机质来源的区分影响较小,有机碳δ13C和C/N的变化可以指示海岸带地层中有机碳来源和埋藏的变化。因此,本研究提出,有机碳参数组合TOC、TN和δ13C可作为九龙江河口地层中高潮滩与中、低潮滩的判别指标。
(1)九龙江河口潮滩表层沉积物的粒度自陆向海,黏土含量逐渐减少,砂的比例增加,峰态逐渐右偏,平均粒径增大,粒径由高潮滩向低潮滩变粗。粒度的季节变化在高、中潮滩较小,低潮滩夏季显著粗于冬季。
(2)九龙江河口潮滩沉积物的TOC、TN和C/N从高潮滩向低潮滩降低,δ13C值总体夏季偏负、冬季偏正,空间上由陆向海偏正。潮滩沉积物有机质来源,高潮滩以陆源和红树林碎屑贡献为主,中潮滩以海源和互花米草碎屑贡献为主,低潮滩海源有机质贡献占主导。夏季陆源有机质贡献高于冬季,冬季海源有机质贡献增加。
(3)河口陆海相互作用的季节变化,即入海径流与潮流在洪、枯季间的强弱转换导致潮滩有机质及其来源的季节分布。潮滩沉积动力分异作用和海水淹没时间差异控制了潮滩有机质及其来源的空间分布,这种沉积动力效应也是潮滩植被分带的原因。
(4)在潮滩水动力作用下,九龙江口潮滩形成沉积微相分异。高潮滩与中、低潮滩之间,TOC存在显著性差异,TN、δ13C存在极显著性差异。有机碳参数组合TOC、TN和δ13C可作为地层中高潮滩与中、低潮滩的有效判别指标。
