In the paper, it is expounded the application of frequency converter in crane of Rail and Beam Plant of Baotou Steel, features and functions of frequency converter, and the selection method of frequency converter for hoisting equipment is introduced. Frenquency converter is applied to crane to realize the soft start of crane and to reduce the impact on grid current. It not only reduces the impact on equipment, prolongs the service life of equipment, saves energy and makes speed regulation more safe and reliable, effectively reducing the production cost of enterprises.
