The 650 MPa grade high strength wheel rim steel is developed with the low carbon Nb-Ti microalloying component system as well as controlled rolling and cooling process. The changes of mechanical properties and metallographic structure of materials after weld thermal cycle as well as the precipitation and dissolution of Nb and Ti carbonitrides are mainly studied. It is concluded that the finer the precipitates of material matrix, the greater the dislocation density and the greater the decrease of strength of heat affected zone compared with the matrix and weld joint. When it is lower than the coordinated deformation force of material in the process of hole enlargement and shaping for rim, the cracking of the heat affected zone or the quality defect of necking is occured.
