Crossbreeding research for Camellia species groups and intragroups was carried out to breed new varieties of Camellia with high ornamental value. A total of 14 species and varieties from Sect. Chrysantha Chang, Sect. Camellia (L.) Dyer, Sect. Archecamellia Sealy and Sect. oleifera Chang, Sect. Corallina Sealy were used to design 42 hybridization combinations, including 8 hybridization of species groups, 24 intragroup hybridization and 10 reciprocal hybridization combinations. 274 setting fruits from 2016 flowers pollinated in 42 combinations were observed, and the percentage of fruit setting rate was 13.6%. 72 hybrid fruits were harvested, and the setting rate was 3.57%. 104 hybrid seedlings were obtained from the 199 seeds harvested, and the seedling emergence percentage was 52.26%. The combination of C. polyodonta♀×C. semiserrata♂ had the highest number of hybrid seedlings, reaching 45, followed by C. semiserrata♀×C. polyodonta♂ with 14 hybrid seedlings, C. polyodonta♀×C. amplexicaulis♂ with 13 hybrid seedlings. The size, shape and luster of the leaves of most hybrid seedlings were in the middle of the parents, and the hybrid seedlings obtained from distant hybridization often showed some characteristics that could be used as early identification of the authenticity of hybrid seedlings. The compatibility of C. polyodonta♀×C. semiserrata♂, C. polyodonta♀×C. amplexicaulis♂, and C. polyodonta♀×Camellia chrysantha♂ hybrid combinations was good, with pollination numbers of 32, 30, and 53, respectively, and seed setting rates of 12.5%, 10.0%, and 22.6%, respectively. More pollination numbers led higher seed setting rate and stronger representativeness. C. polyodonta and C. semiserrata could be used as paternal or maternal to cross breeding, which showing a high reproduction in the inside group of hybridization and outside group of distant hybridization. C. polyodonta and C. semiserrata were good hybrid parents. whether C. amplexicaulis as paternal or maternal parent, there was good cross compatibility with Sect. C. chrysantha and C. osmantha were suitable as paternal parents.

为培育出观赏价值高的山茶新品种,开展山茶属植物组内、组间的杂交育种研究,以金花茶组(Sect. Chrysantha Chang)、红山茶组[Sect. Camellia(L.)Dyer]、古茶组(Sect. Archecamellia Sealy)、油茶组(Sect. oleifera Chang)、离生雄蕊组(Sect. Corallina Sealy)、越南茶组[Sect. Piquatia(Pierre)Sealy]的部分种及品种共14个,设计42个杂交组合,其中组内杂交8个,组间杂交24个,正反交组合10个。结果表明:42个组合共授粉2016朵,座果274个,座果率为13.6%,收获杂交果72个,结实率为3.57%,种子199粒,获得杂交苗104株,出苗率为52.26%。宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂获得的杂交苗数量最多,达45株,其次是广宁红花油茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂,得苗14株。多数杂交苗叶片大小、形状、光泽处于父母本的中间性状,远缘杂交获得的杂交幼苗表现出一些可以作为早期鉴别杂交苗真实性的特征;宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂组合的杂交亲和性较好,授粉数量分别为32、30、53,结实率分别为12.5%、10.0%、22.6%,授粉数量越多,结实率则越高,代表性更强。组内杂交、组外远缘杂交均显示宛田红花油茶和广宁红花油茶不论作为父本或母本开展杂交育种,可育性均较高,是优良的杂交亲本。越南抱茎茶不论作为父本或母本,与金花茶组植物杂交亲和性均较好。普通金花茶、香花油茶在作为父本可育性强,表明普通金花茶和香花油茶则适合作为杂交父本。

为培育出观赏价值高的山茶新品种,开展山茶属植物组内、组间的杂交育种研究,以金花茶组(Sect. Chrysantha Chang)、红山茶组[Sect. Camellia(L.)Dyer]、古茶组(Sect. Archecamellia Sealy)、油茶组(Sect. oleifera Chang)、离生雄蕊组(Sect. Corallina Sealy)、越南茶组[Sect. Piquatia(Pierre)Sealy]的部分种及品种共14个,设计42个杂交组合,其中组内杂交8个,组间杂交24个,正反交组合10个。结果表明:42个组合共授粉2016朵,座果274个,座果率为13.6%,收获杂交果72个,结实率为3.57%,种子199粒,获得杂交苗104株,出苗率为52.26%。宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂获得的杂交苗数量最多,达45株,其次是广宁红花油茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂,得苗14株。多数杂交苗叶片大小、形状、光泽处于父母本的中间性状,远缘杂交获得的杂交幼苗表现出一些可以作为早期鉴别杂交苗真实性的特征;宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂组合的杂交亲和性较好,授粉数量分别为32、30、53,结实率分别为12.5%、10.0%、22.6%,授粉数量越多,结实率则越高,代表性更强。组内杂交、组外远缘杂交均显示宛田红花油茶和广宁红花油茶不论作为父本或母本开展杂交育种,可育性均较高,是优良的杂交亲本。越南抱茎茶不论作为父本或母本,与金花茶组植物杂交亲和性均较好。普通金花茶、香花油茶在作为父本可育性强,表明普通金花茶和香花油茶则适合作为杂交父本。

Crossbreeding research for Camellia species groups and intragroups was carried out to breed new varieties of Camellia with high ornamental value. A total of 14 species and varieties from Sect. Chrysantha Chang, Sect. Camellia (L.) Dyer, Sect. Archecamellia Sealy and Sect. oleifera Chang, Sect. Corallina Sealy were used to design 42 hybridization combinations, including 8 hybridization of species groups, 24 intragroup hybridization and 10 reciprocal hybridization combinations. 274 setting fruits from 2016 flowers pollinated in 42 combinations were observed, and the percentage of fruit setting rate was 13.6%. 72 hybrid fruits were harvested, and the setting rate was 3.57%. 104 hybrid seedlings were obtained from the 199 seeds harvested, and the seedling emergence percentage was 52.26%. The combination of C. polyodonta♀×C. semiserrata♂ had the highest number of hybrid seedlings, reaching 45, followed by C. semiserrata♀×C. polyodonta♂ with 14 hybrid seedlings, C. polyodonta♀×C. amplexicaulis♂ with 13 hybrid seedlings. The size, shape and luster of the leaves of most hybrid seedlings were in the middle of the parents, and the hybrid seedlings obtained from distant hybridization often showed some characteristics that could be used as early identification of the authenticity of hybrid seedlings. The compatibility of C. polyodonta♀×C. semiserrata♂, C. polyodonta♀×C. amplexicaulis♂, and C. polyodonta♀×Camellia chrysantha♂ hybrid combinations was good, with pollination numbers of 32, 30, and 53, respectively, and seed setting rates of 12.5%, 10.0%, and 22.6%, respectively. More pollination numbers led higher seed setting rate and stronger representativeness. C. polyodonta and C. semiserrata could be used as paternal or maternal to cross breeding, which showing a high reproduction in the inside group of hybridization and outside group of distant hybridization. C. polyodonta and C. semiserrata were good hybrid parents. whether C. amplexicaulis as paternal or maternal parent, there was good cross compatibility with Sect. C. chrysantha and C. osmantha were suitable as paternal parents.

全球山茶属(Camellia L.)植物种类已达280个左右,我国华中、华南和西南的亚热带地区是山茶属的现代分布中心,物种资源非常丰富,在280个已命名的山茶属植物种类中就有238个原产我国,占总数的85%[1]。山茶物种中含有大量珍稀基因,是培育珍稀茶花品种必不可少的种质资源,其属内很多物种具有极高观赏价值,为培育茶花新品种提供了天然的基因库[2-4]。目前,我国的山茶工作者和爱好者开展山茶杂交育种研究采用的育种材料大多以红山茶、金花茶的原种及品种[5-12]为亲本,早在20世纪70年代初,陈俊愉[9]和吴丽君等[10]开展了以金花茶为亲本的远缘杂交研究,培育出了金背丹心、新黄、冬月、黄达、黄绣球等著名山茶杂交新品种,丰富了我国的山茶品种,但获得的杂交种花色仅为淡黄色或是其他颜色,如新黄、冬月、黄达、黄绣球均为淡黄色,而金背丹心花瓣带明显的红斑,并未取得理想的“黄花色”的育种效果。金花茶杂交育种要实现培育出具有高观赏价值的黄色大花型、重瓣、带香气、适应性强的山茶花新品种,非常有必要通过设计丰富的杂交组合,改进杂交技术和优化杂交场所环境等措施,提高杂交座果率、结实率,并结合育苗措施,最终获得优良杂交种。据文献资料报道,当前开展的山茶杂交育种试验大部分局限在品种间或近缘种之间[6-7],属内组间甚至亚属间远缘杂交亲和性研究较少。山茶属植物是异花授粉植物,具有自交不亲和特性,不具有自交结实率,因此开展远缘杂交育种无疑是利用本属优良原种获得新品种的重要手段[6]。大多数山茶属植物树形优美,四季常青,花朵艳丽,是优良的庭院绿化观赏树种,具有很高的观赏价值,在城市绿化中被用作园林景观树、盆花、盆景、绿篱植物、地被植物、花墙、年宵花、插花及专类园。特别是一些具备优良性状的山茶,如四季开花的山茶原种杜鹃红山茶(C. azalea[13]、越南抱茎茶(C. amplexicaulis),含有珍稀黄花色基因的金花茶组(Sect. Chrysantha Chang)植物,具有株型矮化和香味的连蕊茶组(Sect. Brachyandra Chang)和短柱茶组植物,以及具有芳香、抗炭疽病、抗旱性、抗寒性等特性的油茶组茶梅、攸县油茶等[2],它们既是园林绿化植物中的佼佼者,又是培育观赏价值高的山茶花的珍贵原始材料。因此,为创制出具有黄花色、四季开花、株形和花型特异、抗逆性强的山茶新优种质,本研究以金花茶组、红山茶组、古茶组、油茶组、离生雄蕊组、越南茶组的部分性状优良种及品种开展组内、组间杂交育种试验,探讨山茶属不同组别之间的杂交亲和性和杂交可育性[14],筛选优良亲本及杂交组合,获得杂交苗,培育出观赏价值高的山茶新品种群。
本试验在广西壮族自治区林业科学研究院山茶资源繁殖圃进行,地处南宁市北郊,北纬22°56′,东经108°21′,海拔95 m,亚热带季风气候区,干湿季明显。≥10 ℃的年积温为7200 ℃,年均气温为21.8 ℃,极端最低温为-1.5 ℃,极端最高温为39.4 ℃,1月均温为11.8 ℃,7月均温为27.6 ℃。雨季一般在5—9月,全年降雨量为1347.2 mm。土壤为砂页岩发育而成的赤红壤,pH 4.5~6.0,土壤肥力中等[7]
杂交亲本材料均来源于广西国家林木种质资源库金花茶、山茶花子库。选用的亲本包括金花茶组植物7个、古茶组植物1个、红山茶组植物3个、油茶组植物1个、离生雄蕊组1个、越南茶组1个,共14种不同山茶属植物的优良单株作为杂交亲本(表1),树龄均超过8 a,植株健壮。图1为本次杂交试验的部分观赏性状优良的杂交亲本。
选择树势生长健壮、观赏价值高、抗病虫害能力强等性状优良的金花茶组、古茶组、红山茶组、油茶组、离生雄蕊组、越南茶组植物作为杂交亲本。杂交试验在2022年12月上旬至2023年3月上旬进行,共设计杂交组合42个,其中组内杂交8个,组间杂交24个,正反交试验5组(10个组合),每组合杂交30~138朵花。杂交所用花粉当天采集当天使用。在上午9:00—12:00选取母本树冠外围、无病虫害、发育健壮的花枝上处于蓬松期未散粉的花蕾作为授粉花朵。采用常规方法[7]进行授粉育种。
分别从组内杂交、组间杂交、正反交的座果率、结实率、收获种子数、出苗数等方面分析比较各组合的杂交效果、杂交亲和性,筛选优良杂交组合和优良亲本。杂交后,定期对各杂交组合的座果、果实发育情况进行观察记录,并于授粉后约60~90 d(此时杂交果径大多约1~2 cm,图2)统计座果率(座果数/杂交花数×100%)。于2023年11月3日采收果实,统计收果数、收获籽粒数等数据,计算结实率(收果数/授粉数×100%)[14]。统计各组合播种的出苗率(出苗数/籽粒总数×100%)、出苗数/授粉数和测量苗木生长情况。数据采用Excel 2007软件进行统计处理。
杂交种子采用常规沙藏催芽,萌芽后移栽到育苗袋,进行常规的水、肥管理和养护,观察种子的萌发情况。移栽1个月后,统计各杂交组合种子的发芽率,定期测量苗高,对苗期形态与父母本进行观察对比,开展早期鉴别,参照《植物新品种特异性、一致性、稳定性测试指导山茶属》(GB/T 26911—2011)[15],通过对杂交F1代分别与杂交亲本从株形、花、叶等观赏性状进行形态评价对比,分析F1代与父母本的性状差异,分析F1代各项性状是介于父母本之间,或是趋向于亲本某一方,并识别F1代独具的新的特异性状。
本杂交试验亲本涉及山茶属6个不同组别的14个不同物种或品种,设计杂交组合42个,共授粉2016朵,授粉后约60~70 d观察到有41个组合在杂交早期均出现了座果情况,座果数量达274个,座果率为13.60%。但由于杂交亲和性影响出现早期落果现象,最后仅收获杂交果72个,结实率为3.57%,种子199粒,培育出苗木104株,出苗率为52.26%。其中,红山茶2个组内杂交(组合1、2)、红山茶组为母本的5个远缘杂交(组合9、11、12、13、14)、金花茶组为母本的2个远缘杂交(组合19、23)、油茶组为母本的3个远缘杂交(组合25、29、30)、正反交试验中2个远缘正交组合(组合35、37)、1个反交组合(组合40)成功获得了杂交苗。
表2可知,组内杂交共8个组合,红山茶组之间的组内杂交2个,金花茶组内杂交6个,8个组合在授粉初期均有座果,座果率在4.2%~25.0%之间,表明8个组内杂交组合均有一定的亲和性,但仅有宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂(组合1)获得杂交苗45株,广宁红花油茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂(组合2)获得杂交苗14株,2组出苗率分别达88.2%和77.8%,组合1的出苗数与授粉花数之比为1.4,显著高于组合2(为0.4),表明组合1的育种效率高于组合2。中东金花茶♀×普通金花茶♂、中东金花茶♀×尖叶大金♂共收获了3个杂交果,2粒种子未能发芽,但也表明有一定的亲和性。普通金花茶♀×红顶金花茶♂、普通金花茶♀×显脉金花茶♂、普通金花茶♀×尖叶大金♂、中东金花茶♀×柳叶金花♂4个组合未能获得杂交果,表明亲和性差。本次金花茶组内杂交试验显示亲和性较差。
(1)红山茶组为母本的远缘杂交。由表3可知,以宛田红花油茶为母本的组合4个(编号9~12),宛田红花油茶分别与普通金花茶、中东金花茶、香花油茶、越南抱茎茶的组合杂交亲和性总体上均较好,但宛田红花油茶♀×中东金花茶♂出现空籽或种子发育不良,未能获得苗木。宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂获得13株杂交苗,宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂获得8株杂交苗、宛田红花油茶♀×香花油茶♂获得1株杂交苗,宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂出苗数与授粉花数之比为0.40,宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂为0.20,宛田红花油茶♀×香花油茶♂0.03,表明宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂的育种效率较高,是宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂的2倍,宛田红花油茶♀×香花油茶♂育苗效率较低。广宁红花油茶为母本的组合4个(13~16),广宁红花油茶♀×香花油茶♂、广宁红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂组合都有座果率和结实率,分别获得2株和4株杂交苗,杂交亲和性较好,两组的出苗数与授粉花数之比均为0.1,表明2个组合的育种效率基本一致。广宁红花油茶♀×红顶金花茶♂、广宁红花油茶♀×娟红1号♂未能收到果实,杂交亲和性较差。红山茶组为母本开展的远缘杂交试验显示普通金花茶、越南抱茎茶和香花油茶是较好的父本。
(2)金花茶组为母本的远缘杂交。由表4可知,以普通金花茶、中东金花茶为母本,分别与红山茶组、油茶组、古茶组组成8个杂交组合(编号17~24),其中普通金花茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂、中东金花茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂组合成功培育出杂交苗,表明此2个组合杂交亲和性较好。普通金花茶♀×香花油茶♂、普通金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂、中东金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂虽然收获到果实和种子,但均未能发芽,表明此3个组合有较低的杂交亲和性。普通金花茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂、中东金花茶♀×香花油茶、中东金花茶♀×广宁红花油茶均未显现出明显的杂交亲和性。
(3)油茶组为母本的远缘杂交。由表5可知,香花油茶分别与红山茶组、金花茶组及古茶组组成的8个杂交组合(编号25~32),其中香花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂、香花油茶♀×显脉金花茶♂、香花油茶♀×小花金花茶♂共收获果实6个,并培育出杂交苗6株,表明香花油茶与金花茶组植物有较好的杂交亲和性,香花油茶♀×杜鹃红山茶♂有一定亲和性,但从出苗数与授粉花数比值看出,4组育苗效率均不高。香花油茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂、香花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂、香花油茶♀×尖叶大金♂、香花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂均未能收获果实,表明香花油茶与宛田红花油茶、广宁红花油茶、尖叶大金、越南抱茎茶未显现出明显的杂交亲和性。
表6可知,以性状表现优良的6个山茶植物为杂交亲本,设计正反交5组,共10个组合(编号33~42),5组正反交杂交试验,其中有普通金花茶♀×杜鹃红山茶♂、红顶金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂、越南抱茎茶♀×尖叶大金♂3个正交组合共收获10粒种子,其中2个组合培育出苗木(普通金花茶♀×杜鹃红山茶♂种子未发芽),3个反交组合尖叶大金♀×越南抱茎茶♂、越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂、柳叶金花♀×红花离蕊茶♂收获了种子,但仅有越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂种子发芽,获得1株苗,表明这6个组合均有亲和性,但红顶金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂、越南抱茎茶♀×尖叶大金♂、越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂的亲和性高于普通金花茶♀×杜鹃红山茶♂、尖叶大金♀×越南抱茎茶♂、柳叶金花♀×红花离蕊茶♂。2个正交组合柳叶金花♀×越南抱茎茶、红花离蕊茶♀×柳叶金花♂和2个反交组合杜鹃红山茶♀×普通金花茶♂、越南抱茎茶♀×红顶金花茶♂均未能收获果实,表明亲和性较差。越南抱茎茶与尖叶大金正反交均能收获到杂交果,表明二者杂交亲和性较好。红顶金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂出苗数与授粉花数比值(为0.04)高于越南抱茎茶♀×尖叶大金♂、越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂(均为0.02),表明红顶金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂育苗效率高于后面2组。正反交试验中2个远缘正交组合(组合35、37)、1个反交组合40杂交成功,获得了杂交苗。
杂交种出苗率和苗木生长情况一定程度上也可反映杂交组合亲和性的高低和亲本可育性,亲和性高的组合其杂交种子饱满,出苗率高,苗木生长健壮,表明亲本可育性强。本研究设计了42个杂交组合,有23个组合获得了种子,于2023年11月初将获得的199粒种子分别进行沙藏催芽,约3个月后,有15个组合(表7)的种子破土发芽(图3),出苗104株,出苗率为52.26%。宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂(组合1)获得的杂交苗数量最多,达45株,其次是广宁红花油茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂(组合2)获得的杂交苗14株,宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂(组合12)获得的杂交苗13株,排名第三,宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂(组合9)获得杂交苗8株,排名第四。宛田红花油茶♀×香花油茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂2个组合的苗木长势较弱,其他13个组合的苗木长势较好,但宛田红花油茶♀×香花油茶♂、香花油茶♀×杜鹃红山茶♂、越南抱茎茶♀×尖叶大金♂、越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂4个组合均分别仅获得1株苗木。
各组合杂交苗移栽到育苗袋后在苗高、地径、叶型等性状方面表现出区别于父母本的特异性,观察比较发现,多数杂交苗叶片大小、形状、光泽处于父母本的中间性状,但远缘杂交获得的杂交幼苗往往会表现出一些可以作为早期鉴别杂交苗真实性的特征。图4A图4B是宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂(组合9)的杂交苗的2个阶段,嫩叶期和叶片成熟期,其叶片有畸形,是杂交亲和性的一种表现,同时也是杂交成功的一个佐证。图4C是香花油茶♀与杜鹃红山茶♂(组合25)的杂交苗(左,红色箭头)与母本香花油茶(右,黄色箭头)对比,可以明显看出杂交苗叶片大小、形状、光泽居于父本杜鹃红山茶和母本香花油茶的中间性状,且杂交苗叶型更倾向于母本香花油茶,但叶片相较母本香花油茶明显变宽变厚,叶尖变短。图4D黄色箭头所示是宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂(组合12)的杂交苗,播种获得的13株杂交苗明显生长弱小,可佐证该组合杂交成功,杂交苗木弱小,红山茶组与古茶组远缘杂交亲和性影响了杂交苗生长,二者亲和性稍差。图4D中的红色箭头所示是宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂(组合1)的杂交苗,杂交苗明显生长整齐健壮,表明二者红山茶组内杂交亲和性高。图5为4个杂交组合的F1代幼苗,图6为其杂交亲本,可以看出F1代与杂交亲本在叶片形态方面有显著差异,F1代在叶片性状(叶形、叶片大小、锯齿、叶尖等)表现出区别于父母本新的性状。
本杂交试验设计了42个组合,有23个组合获得了种子,但仅有15个组合获得了杂交苗。红山茶组的宛田红花油茶与广宁红花油茶正反交试验均能收获果实和种子,有较高的发芽率,且作为父本或者母本与金花茶组、油茶组、古茶组均获得了杂交果和杂交种子,并培育出杂交苗,表明宛田红花油茶与广宁红花油茶是优良的杂交亲本。金花茶组内杂交仅中东金花茶♀与普通金花茶♂收到1个杂交果,但种子未能发芽,而金花茶组参与的组间远缘杂交反而获得了较好的成功率,与红山茶组的组合9、14、19、23、油茶组的组合29、30、古茶组的组合35、37、以及与越南茶组的组合40等组合均获得杂交果和杂交苗,这与陈俊愉[9]、吴丽君等[10]的研究结果“金花茶组内种间杂交效果高于组外种间杂交”不太一致。以中东金花茶为母本的组内杂交,与之杂交的父本尖叶大金和柳叶金花均为选育发现的金花茶自然杂交新品种,可能由于父本经过自然杂交,包含了其他与中东金花茶极度不亲和性的隐性基因导致了杂交的失败。以普通金花茶为母本的组内杂交除以上原因外,还可能是由于与父本红顶金花茶、显脉金花茶父本的花期不遇,花粉活力或者是天气原因导致了杂交的失败,均未能获得杂交果。杂交红顶金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂(组合35)、越南抱茎茶♀×尖叶大金♂(组合37)、越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂(组合40)均获得杂交果和杂交苗,符合吴丽君等[10]“防城金花茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂获得了理想的结实率和培育出了杂交苗”的研究结论,表明古茶组的越南抱茎茶与金花茶组杂交亲和性较好。但是,越南抱茎茶♀×尖叶大金♂、越南抱茎茶♀×柳叶金花♂均能收获到果实和培育出杂交苗,这与吴丽君等[10]越南抱茎茶不适宜做观赏山茶杂交母本”的结论不太一致,可能是越南抱茎茶属古茶组与其他山茶的杂交亲和性目前还不容易被充分掌握,但本试验均成功获得了杂交果并培育出了杂交苗,至少表明越南抱茎茶作为母本与金花茶组植物有较好的亲和性。杂交试验开展的组内杂交、组外远缘杂交,均表明宛田红花油茶和广宁红花油茶不论作为父本或母本开展杂交育种,可育性都较高,是较好的杂交亲本优选,这与杨志玲等[6]的研究结论相一致,而普通金花茶、香花油茶作为父本可育性强,适合作为山茶杂交育种的父本。宛田红花油茶♀×广宁红花油茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×越南抱茎茶♂、宛田红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂杂交亲和性较好,其次是广宁红花油茶♀×宛田红花油茶♂、广宁红花油茶♀×普通金花茶♂、香花油茶♀×小花金花茶♂等的杂交亲和性较好。
目前,从播种育苗可以初步观察到少数组合的杂交苗已具有区别于亲本的一些新的性状特征,但它们表现出来的新性状是否稳定、是否是优质性状,还需要后续对杂交种苗后期生长、开花结实习性以及对所扩繁后代的进一步跟踪观察,以获得观赏价值高的超亲本优质新种。我国山茶属植物种质资源丰富,许多特异资源如具有四季开花特性的杜鹃红山茶、越南抱茎茶,黄色基因的金花茶组,有香味的连蕊茶组,叶形特异的娟红1号,花叶特异的金妃1号等是培育优质山茶新品种优良亲本材料,今后应该开展更丰富的远缘杂交组合,从而提高获得优良杂交新品种的机率。杂交亲和性影响出现早期落果现象,关于杂种胚败育及发育停滞的原因主要是由于杂种胚乳早期败育导致了胚的败育,常发生在合子至球形胚的较早时期,此外杂种胚与胚乳之间生理不协调也常常使胚不能正常分化而夭亡[16],因此适时地进行杂种幼胚的离体培养,对育种工作十分必要。杂交亲和性受诸多因素综合影响,亲本间的组合亲缘关系的远近[12,17]、亲本花粉的发育状况[10,16]、花粉在柱头及子房中的行为、花粉与柱头的识别[18]、染色体的配对行为[19]及天气因素对杂交都可能产生一定程度的影响,都有可能影响杂交的亲和性。本次杂交试验均在野外开展,座果、保果、跟踪观察均可能由于恶劣天气影响,以及受鼠类、鸟类啃食破坏从而一定程度上影响了杂交效果。因此,今后应大力推广在条件适宜的大棚内开展杂交育种,并提倡采用盆栽植物进行杂交,方便操作,优化现有的杂交技术并结合分子辅助育种等现代先进育种技术开展定向育种,从而提高杂交育种效率,快速获得数量丰富的、观赏价值高的优良山茶杂交新品种,并把它们推广运用到在城市绿化中作为园林景观树、盆花、盆景、绿篱植物、地被植物、花墙、年宵花、插花材料以及创建山茶专类园等。
