Coconut is an important economic crop in tropics. The area of coconut palm in Hainan Island accounts for 90% of the total production area in China. Up-to-date maps of coconut palm are essential for the industrial planning of tropical agriculture. In this study, an object-oriented image analysis method was used for mapping coconut palms based on high spatial resolution imagery of Gaofen-2. Dongjiao town in Wenchang was selected as the study area. An optimal segmentation scale of Gaofen-2 imagery was obtained using the fractal evolution approach. Then, a combined layer of four original bands, five vegetation indices and 32 gray-level co-occurrence (GLCM) texture indices were used as input features. Four different sets of features (including only original bands, original bands and textures indices, original bands and vegetation indices, and all features) were applied in object-based classification. The overall accuracy (OA) and user’s accuracy (UA) of pixel-based method achieved 87.05% and 85.21%, respectively. Compared with the pixel-based method, the object-based approaches significantly increased overall accuracy (OA) between 5.51%-8.72%. The OA and user’s accuracy (UA) reached 95.77% and 97.15% respectively, which was the optimal classification result, when the combination of original bands and textural features were used in coconut palms classifying. In addition, the combination of original bands and vegetation indexes achieved a satisfactory accuracy (OA=94.88% and UA=94.42%). While the combination of original bands, vegetation indexes and textural indexes performed a lower accuracy (OA=94.67% and UA=94.17%) in comparison with that of above two combination. Generally, our researches indicate that Gaofen-2 imagery has a good potential for coconut palms classification in complex tropical regions, and the textural indexes are very useful for identifying coconut palms at object-based level. The results would provide a reference framework for tropical agriculture decision management.

椰子是重要的热带经济作物,海南椰子种植面积占全国的90%以上。快速获取椰子种植面积及其空间分布信息对热带作物产业规划具有十分重要的作用。本研究基于国产Gaofen-2高分辨率卫星影像,以文昌市东郊镇为试验区,开展椰子林遥感分类研究。基于最优分割尺度的面向对象分类方法,选取4个光谱特征、5个植被指数和32个纹理特征为辅助参量,构建了4种不同的面向对象分类组合(光谱特征、光谱特征+纹理特征组合、光谱特征+植被指数组合、光谱特征+纹理特征+植被指数特征组合)进行椰子林分类提取,并与基于像元的椰子林分类结果进行对比分析。结果表明:(1)仅采用基于像元分类方法,椰子林的总体分类精度(overall accuracy,OA)和用户精度(user’s accuracy,UA)分别达到87.05%和85.21%。(2)相比基于像元分类,4种面向对象分类组合的OA值提高了5.51%~8.72%。(3)光谱特征和纹理特征组合提取椰子林分类结果最优,OA值和UA值分别达到95.77%和97.15%;光谱特征和植被指数的组合也得到了较好的分类结果,OA值和UA值分别为94.88%和94.42%;所有的光谱特征、植被指数和纹理特征全部参与分类得到的OA值和UA值分别为94.67%和94.17%,低于仅使用光谱特征或者植被指数的组合。综上,国产高分辨率Gaofen-2影像在椰子林遥感精准识别中具有很大的潜力,结合纹理特征的面向对象分类方法可以更准确地提取椰子林分类信息,研究结果可为多云多雨地区大尺度椰子林遥感识别提供技术参考。

椰子是重要的热带经济作物,海南椰子种植面积占全国的90%以上。快速获取椰子种植面积及其空间分布信息对热带作物产业规划具有十分重要的作用。本研究基于国产Gaofen-2高分辨率卫星影像,以文昌市东郊镇为试验区,开展椰子林遥感分类研究。基于最优分割尺度的面向对象分类方法,选取4个光谱特征、5个植被指数和32个纹理特征为辅助参量,构建了4种不同的面向对象分类组合(光谱特征、光谱特征+纹理特征组合、光谱特征+植被指数组合、光谱特征+纹理特征+植被指数特征组合)进行椰子林分类提取,并与基于像元的椰子林分类结果进行对比分析。结果表明:(1)仅采用基于像元分类方法,椰子林的总体分类精度(overall accuracy,OA)和用户精度(user’s accuracy,UA)分别达到87.05%和85.21%。(2)相比基于像元分类,4种面向对象分类组合的OA值提高了5.51%~8.72%。(3)光谱特征和纹理特征组合提取椰子林分类结果最优,OA值和UA值分别达到95.77%和97.15%;光谱特征和植被指数的组合也得到了较好的分类结果,OA值和UA值分别为94.88%和94.42%;所有的光谱特征、植被指数和纹理特征全部参与分类得到的OA值和UA值分别为94.67%和94.17%,低于仅使用光谱特征或者植被指数的组合。综上,国产高分辨率Gaofen-2影像在椰子林遥感精准识别中具有很大的潜力,结合纹理特征的面向对象分类方法可以更准确地提取椰子林分类信息,研究结果可为多云多雨地区大尺度椰子林遥感识别提供技术参考。

Coconut is an important economic crop in tropics. The area of coconut palm in Hainan Island accounts for 90% of the total production area in China. Up-to-date maps of coconut palm are essential for the industrial planning of tropical agriculture. In this study, an object-oriented image analysis method was used for mapping coconut palms based on high spatial resolution imagery of Gaofen-2. Dongjiao town in Wenchang was selected as the study area. An optimal segmentation scale of Gaofen-2 imagery was obtained using the fractal evolution approach. Then, a combined layer of four original bands, five vegetation indices and 32 gray-level co-occurrence (GLCM) texture indices were used as input features. Four different sets of features (including only original bands, original bands and textures indices, original bands and vegetation indices, and all features) were applied in object-based classification. The overall accuracy (OA) and user’s accuracy (UA) of pixel-based method achieved 87.05% and 85.21%, respectively. Compared with the pixel-based method, the object-based approaches significantly increased overall accuracy (OA) between 5.51%-8.72%. The OA and user’s accuracy (UA) reached 95.77% and 97.15% respectively, which was the optimal classification result, when the combination of original bands and textural features were used in coconut palms classifying. In addition, the combination of original bands and vegetation indexes achieved a satisfactory accuracy (OA=94.88% and UA=94.42%). While the combination of original bands, vegetation indexes and textural indexes performed a lower accuracy (OA=94.67% and UA=94.17%) in comparison with that of above two combination. Generally, our researches indicate that Gaofen-2 imagery has a good potential for coconut palms classification in complex tropical regions, and the textural indexes are very useful for identifying coconut palms at object-based level. The results would provide a reference framework for tropical agriculture decision management.

椰子是热带地区非常重要的木本油料经济作物[1],具有极高的营养、药用和经济价值。椰子树对温度、温差、光照时长、降雨等气候条件有特殊要求,适宜生长在高温多雨的低海拔湿热地区[2]。亚洲是世界椰子的主产区,中国椰子种植区主要分布在海南、云南、广西、台湾,其中海南椰子种植面积占全国的90%以上[3]。椰子作为海南“三棵树”产业(橡胶、槟榔、椰子)之一,是海南的代表性产业[4]。椰子等热带特色产业的发展对海南经济发展、乡村振兴具有十分重要的作用[5]。椰子种植面积及空间分布信息对热带农业产业布局优化和政策调整非常重要。传统的椰子林面积获取主要采用统计报表和抽样调查的方式,该方法获取的数据耗时、耗力、误差大。遥感具有快速、实时、宏观等特点,为农作物的空间分布提供了强有力的手段。
遥感技术在农作物遥感分类中已得到广泛应用。传统的基于像元分类方法仅利用作物光谱信息,而忽视了邻近像元信息的重要性[6-7]。面向对象分类方法将相似像元聚合成对象,充分应用影像的光谱特征、几何特征和结构特征,能极大地避免“椒盐”现象的产生,提高地物分类提取精度[8],该方法已经在水稻[9]、油菜[10]、玉米[11]等作物分类中得到了很好的应用。然而,热带作物种植分散、面积小、种植结构复杂;且作物生长物候期不明显,基于遥感手段进行热带作物的精准识别更具挑战性。目前,针对热带作物的面向对象分类,已有学者开展了相关研究,如马洋洋等[12]在面向对象分割中引入归一化植被指数(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index,NDVI)和数字高程模型(Digital Elevation Model,DEM)辅助数据进行了广西武鸣区的木薯遥感分类,总体分类精度为85%;任传帅等[13]结合植被覆盖度和坡度的面向对象分类提取了三亚芒果林空间分布信息,制图精度达到92.81%;王久玲等[14]采用光谱均值、NDVI和同质性(homogeneity)纹理特征对广西贵港市甘蔗进行面向对象分类识别,分类精度达到91.30%。然而,针对椰子林面向对象分类提取的研究鲜有报道。
本研究以文昌市东郊镇为研究区,基于Gaofen-2影像和面向对象分类方法开展椰子林分类提取研究,具体包括:影像最优分割尺度分析,利用光谱特征、纹理特征和植被指数3种类型的辅助特征参量构建不同的分类组合,对比分析不同分类组合的椰子林分类精度,探寻适宜Gaofen-2卫星影像的椰子林空间分布提取方法,为多云多雨地区热带作物的遥感分类识别提供参考。
文昌市位于海南岛的东北部,东、南、北三面临海,属海洋季风气候湿润区[15],地势低平,年降雨量为1800~2500 mm[16],年均气温为23.9 ℃。文昌市以种植椰子为主,据文昌市统计年鉴(2020)显示,2019年全市椰子种植面积达14 967.4 hm2,其中东郊镇的椰子种植面积达3271.4 hm2,是文昌市椰子种植面积最大的乡(镇)。本文选取的研究区(图1)位于东郊镇(110°51′07″~110°52′24″E,19°31′52″~19°32′44″N),野外调研发现该区主要土地利用类型为椰子林、耕地(水田和旱地)、其他林地(木麻黄林等)、水体、建筑地(包括居民地和道路)5种。尽管选用的研究区域范围较小,但能代表文昌市椰子种植区的典型土地利用特征。
本研究选取Gaofen-2影像,数据获取时间为2015年6月30日,数据来源于中国资源卫星应用中心(http://www.cresda.com/CN/)。Gaofen-2数据包括4 m的多光谱影像和1 m的全色影像,具体波段参数信息见表1。数据预处理包括辐射定标、大气校正、几何校正、图像融合、图像裁剪,最终获得研究区1 m的Gaofen-2融合影像。所有的影像预处理操作均在ENVI 5.3软件中进行,其中大气校正采用FLAASH模型,多光谱和全色影像的融合采用NNDiffuse Pan Sharpening融合算法,该方法能同时保留较好的高空间细节和光谱保真效果[17]。为掌握研究区椰子林的分布情况,本研究的样本点数据主要采用手持全球定位系统(Global Positioning System,GPS)野外采集及Google Earth。采用分层随机抽样方法,将地类类型分为5层(椰子林、耕地、其他林地、水体、建筑地),在每一层中独立按照随机抽样方法抽取样本;共采集样本点数为2723个(其中椰子林985个,耕地708个,其他林地220个,建筑地518个,水体292个),并将样本点按照6∶4的比例分为训练样本点和验证样本点2种数据集。为了保证分类精度评价结果的可对比性,本研究中使用相同的训练样本点数据集进行椰子林遥感分类提取,然后基于相同验证样本点数据集评估分类结果。
影像分割是面向对象分类非常重要的步骤,主要是将具有类似空间和光谱特征的像元划分为一个对象,最终形成多个同质性强的影像对象,以此减少同类地物的特征差异性,增加不同地物类型的可分性。本研究采用分形网络演化算法(fractal net evolution approach,FNEA)进行Gaofen-2影像分割,该方法自下而上(bottom-up)地将像元合并为具有同质性且能与周围对象区分开的影像对象,较好克服了传统分割算法对象边界破碎的问题[18]。具体的公式如下[19]
式中,H为分割对象异质性,即分割尺度;color为光谱权重,compact为紧致度权重;colorshapecompactsmooth分别为光谱因子、形状因子、紧致度和平滑度。
多尺度分割中,分割尺度的大小是影响分类结果的重要因素之一。分割尺度太大会产生影像欠分割现象,分割而成的对象中包含多种地物类型,分割尺度太小会产生过分割现象,导致分割对象过于破碎[17-18,20]。因此,在综合考虑分割对象类内同质性及类间异质性情况下,选择合适的分割尺度参数对地物分类尤为重要。本研究使用尺度参数估计(estimation of scale parameter,ESP)进行椰子林面向对象分类的最优分割尺度评估。其原理为:采用迭代方法自动分割影像,计算每一个分割尺度下的局部方差(local variance,LV),进而分析不同对象LV的变化率(rate of change,ROC),以此判定最优分割尺度[21]。ROC曲线突然出现的峰值代表不同地物类型的可能最优分割尺度。ROC的计算公式如下:

图2为研究区5种不同地物类型样本点的光谱反射率箱线图,可以看出耕地在蓝和近红外波段与其他地物有部分光谱重叠区,椰子林和其他林地两类地物的箱线图在4个波段的反射率均有重叠。在光谱特征分析的基础上,本研究选用了3种类型特征变量:光谱波段、纹理特征和植被指数。纹理是地物在图像中的典型特征,不同作物叶子的形状和色调不同,从而导致遥感影像灰度值在空间位置上分布不同。计算纹理特征的方法有很多,其中常用的是灰度共生矩阵(gray level co-occurrence matrix,GLCM)。尽管GLCM提供了影像灰度的方向、变化幅度和间隔信息,但并不能提供区别纹理的特征,需要基于GLCM来提取描述纹理特征的统计属性。均值、方差、同质性、对比度、差异性、相关性、熵和二阶矩是常用来描述纹理特征信息的统计量[22],本研究中计算蓝波(Blue)、绿波(Green)、红波(Red)、近红外(NIR)4个波段的纹理特征统计量,共计32个纹理特征量。植被指数体现不同作物在可见光及近红外的光谱反射特性[23],能增加遥感影像的解译能力,本研究选择常用的5种植被指数:归一化植被指数、绿度植被指数、绿色指数、绿度归一化植被指数、比值植被指数。纹理特征[24]和植被指数的具体计算公式见表2
本研究选用的研究方案如图3所示,机器学习分类算法选择随机森林(random forest)分类。对研究区影像进行最优尺度分割之后,根据输入特征参量的类型形成不同的分类组合:OC1为仅使用光谱特征(4个特征变量)的面向对象分类,OC2为光谱特征和纹理特征组合36个特征变量的分类,OC3为光谱特征和植被指数组合9个特征变量的分类方法,OC4为光谱特征、纹理特征和植被指数组合的41个特征变量的分类方法,采用不同组合开展椰子林分类提取,并结合野外验证样本点进行分类结果精度评估。此外,为了与面向对象分类结果进行对比研究,还采用了基于像元分类方法(记为PC1)对椰子林进行分类提取。
在研究区的Gaofen-2遥感影像中,耕地在椰子林中呈带状分布;通过预分割试验,分别将紧致因子和形状因子设置为0.5和0.2。根据1.3.1所述原理,计算得到不同分割尺度ROC曲线图(图4)。从图4可以看出,有多个ROC曲线波峰。综合试错法(trial-and-error)及人工目视判别结果,充分考虑分割对象内部同质性和对象间异质性,本研究采用的最优分割尺度为99(图5)。
基于野外采集的样本点构建椰子林分类结果混淆矩阵,计算总体分类精度(overall accuracy,OA)、Kappa系数、椰子林的制图精度(producer’s accuracy,PA)、用户精度(user’s accuracy,UA)和F1-score作为精度评价指标来综合评价Gaofen-2卫星影像的椰子林分类提取效果。不同组合的分类精度如表3所示。
从总体分类精度来看(表3),基于像元的分类方法OA达到87.05%(kappa=0.83)。面向对象分类方法(OC1~OC4)使椰子林识别精度有不同程度的提高,OC1的OA值提高幅度最小,为92.56%,相比基于像元分类方法(PC1)提高了5.51%,kappa系数提高了0.07。引入纹理特征参数后,OC2的OA值得到大幅度提高,达到95.77%,相比PC1提高了8.72%,kappa系数提高了0.11,表明在面向对象分类方法中引入纹理特征对椰子林分类精度的提高起到了很大作用。引入植被指数参与遥感分类后,OC3的OA值为94.88%(kappa=0.93),相对于PC1,精度提高了7.83%,增幅略小于引入纹理特征分类的OC2。将植被指数和纹理特征参量全部参与椰子林分类识别,OC4的OA值为94.67%,低于单独使用纹理特征或植被指数进行椰子林分类识别的OA值。尽管多特征参量参与分类计算更有利于地物分类识别,但特征参量的个数并不是越多越好。本研究中,OC4参与椰子林分类的特征参量数最多(41个),但其分类得到的OA却低于OC2(36个)和OC3(9个)。可能是因为过多的特征会使特征维数变高,造成数据冗余,影响了总体分类精度。詹国旗等[25]的研究中同样指出了特征参量冗余对分类会产生影响。
基于像元的PC1分类的PA和UA值分别为86.29%和85.21%(表3)。采用面向对象分类方法后,OC1椰子林的PA值和UA值分别提高到92.38%和89.88%.。相对于仅采用光谱特征,植被指数参与影像分类有效提高了椰子林提取的精度,OC3的PA值和UA值分别达到94.41%和94.42%,与OC1相比,其PA值和UA值分别增加了2.03%和4.54%。植被光谱特征在可见光和近红外波段表现出双峰和双谷特征,通常在红光波段吸收而在近红外波段呈现出高反射和高透射特征[26],运用这些波段计算得到的植被指数一定程度地提高了椰子林的分类精度。OC2不论是PA值还是UA值均为5种组合模式中最高,其PA值和UA值分别为95.18%和97.15%。,可以看出纹理特征的引入极大地提高了椰子林分类精度。椰子树种植的株距为6~7 m,行距为8~9 m,树干高达15~25 m,其叶片呈伞型羽毛状从树梢伸出(图6A),单片长约4~6 m[2]。由于椰子的生长特点,椰子林在Gaofen-2影像中呈现出独特的色调变化和纹理特征。GLCM能够充分运用图像的纹理特征,具有较强的鲁棒性和自适应能力[27],对提高椰子林分类精度产生了重要的作用。
综合OA、Kappa、PA、UA和F1-score五个评价指标来看,OC2组合对椰子林的提取效果最好,得到的分类精度最高。为了详细分析影响椰子林错分、漏分的主要因素,选择分类精度最高的OC2组合建立混淆矩阵(表4)。从表4可以看出,有375个椰子林像元被正确分类,图像中有2.85%的椰子林像元被漏分为其他林地;从椰子林生产者精度来看,有4个椰子林像元被错分为耕地,有15个椰子林像元被错分为其他林地。通过以上分析可以发现,其他林地是降低椰子林提取精度的主要因素。值得注意的是,图像中有5.10%的耕地像元被漏分为椰子林、其他林地和建筑地,其中漏分为建筑地的像元数为9个,占总漏分像元的60.00%;从建筑地的生产者精度来看,耕地也是降低建筑地分类精度的主要因素。
从分类结果中可以看出,研究区面积较大的地物类型主要是椰子林和耕地,其中椰子林地块较大,呈带状的耕地分布在椰子林中(图7)。此外,研究区内还有少量的其他林地,椰子林与其他林地之间存在错分漏分现象。尽管引入特征参量后椰子林的分类精度有所提高,但完全区分两类地物仍存在难度。通过野外实地调研发现,椰子林与其他林地(主要为木麻黄林)交错分布,地块破碎度高,形状不规则。木麻黄林一般造林株行距为2 m×2 m,平均树干高度为9~24 m[28-29],树冠狭长呈圆锥形,与椰子林存在相似的光谱纹理特征(图6A图6B)。在进行影像分割时,椰子林与其他林地分割得到的对象边界不明显,容易在两类地物的边界处出现分类结果混淆。
利用遥感技术从破碎度高、多云多雨的热带区域提取单一热带作物仍较为困难。本研究基于国产Gaofen-2高分辨率影像,采用最优分割尺度的面向对象分类方法,引入纹理特征和植被指数作为辅助特征参量开展椰子林分类提取研究,对比几种特征参量组合的椰子林分类精度。研究表明,Gaofen-2高分辨率遥感影像具有丰富的光谱特征信息,在椰子林分类提取中具有极大潜力,仅采用基于像元分类方法,椰子林的OA值达87.05%。相比基于像元分类方法,将纹理特征和植被指数应用于椰子林识别得到了较好的分类效果,不同组合的面向对象分类方法OA值提高了5.51%~8.90%,表明引入辅助特征参量信息一定程度上可以提高椰子林识别精度。其中光谱特征和纹理特征组合分类结果最优,椰子林分类PA和UA值达到了95.18%和97.15%,纹理特征在作物识别中的重要性在许多研究中也得到了证实[30-32]。由光谱特征、纹理特征和植被指数组成的特征参量在椰子林分类提取中,无论是总体分类精度还是生产者精度均低于光谱特征和纹理特征组合、光谱特征和植被指数组合,表明特征参量的冗余对椰子林分类识别产生了较大的影响。WANG等[33]、STEFANOS等[34]也发现大量的特征参量会导致分类精度的降低,这与本研究结果一致。
考虑到特征冗余对作物分类精度的影响,下一步研究工作需综合应用多种特征优化算法,筛选最优特征参量,进一步提高椰子林识别精度。此外,随着Google Earth Engine(GEE)等遥感云计算服务平台的广泛使用,有效解决了海量遥感数据处理繁琐、计算机配置要求高等问题[35],能大幅度缩短数据处理时间,为大范围作物遥感监测提供了新的途径和方法,未来将结合GEE云平台开展典型热带作物遥感分类研究。另外值得注意的是,本研究中光谱特征和纹理特征组合进行椰子林分类耗时为126.782 s,而光谱特征和植被指数组合进行分类耗时仅为0.625 s,虽然光谱特征和纹理特征组合所获得的分类精度仅比光谱特征和植被指数组合提高了1.1%,但分类所需时间却成倍增加,本研究仅选用2077×1581像元的小区域,若进行大面积椰子林分类识别时还需综合权衡分类精度和耗用时间。
