The Grid-based Energetic Neutral Atom imager (GENA) onboard the Queqiao-2 Satellite is the first lunar-based magnetospheric Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) panoramic remote sensing imaging payload. It aims to provide scientific data support for the study of the injection triggering mechanism of the Earth’s magnetospheric substorm, the magnetotail energy conversion mechanism, and the generation process of the Earth’s magnetic storm through high temporal and spatial resolution observation data. The GENA innovatively combines the time-of-flight method with the two-dimensional coded modulation imaging technology to achieve accurate detection of single-particle events and large-scale, high-resolution magnetospheric neutral atom remote sensing imaging. It can be used to measure 4~200 keV H atoms and 8~250 keV O atoms, and the energy resolution is better than 1 keV @10 keV. At the same time, its instrument field of view is greater than 20°×45°, and the resolution of ENA remote sensing images is better than 0.5°. To accurately calibrate the above performance indicators of the GENA, a study on the calibration method of the GENA was carried out. The accelerator beam calibration test verifies the GENA’s ability to identify the type of neutral atoms and measure their energy, and the optical calibration test verifies the GENA’s field of view coverage and image resolution. The calibration test results show that the GENA’s ability to measure H and O atoms can cover the design indicators.

鹊桥二号中继星阵列中性原子成像仪(GENA)是中国首台月基磁层中性原子全景遥感成像载荷, 旨在通过高时空分辨率观测数据为研究地球磁层亚暴注入触发机制、磁尾能量转化机制及地球磁暴的产生过程等提供科学数据支持. 该阵列中性原子成像仪创新地将飞行时间法与二维编码调制成像技术相结合, 实现了单粒子事件精确探测及大尺度高分辨的磁层中性原子遥感成像. 鹊桥二号中继星阵列中性原子成像仪可用于测量4~200 keV H原子和8~250 keV O原子, 且能量分辨率优于1 keV@10 keV. 同时, 其仪器视场角大于20°×45°, 中性原子遥感图像分辨率优于0.5°. 为准确标定阵列中性原子成像仪的上述性能指标, 开展阵列中性原子成像仪定标方法研究. 通过加速器束流定标测试验证阵列中性原子成像仪对中性原子的种类鉴别及能量测量能力, 通过光学定标测试验证阵列中性原子成像仪视场覆盖范围及生成图像的分辨率. 定标测试结果表明, 阵列中性原子成像仪对H原子和O原子的测量能力可覆盖设计指标.

鹊桥二号中继星阵列中性原子成像仪(GENA)是中国首台月基磁层中性原子全景遥感成像载荷, 旨在通过高时空分辨率观测数据为研究地球磁层亚暴注入触发机制、磁尾能量转化机制及地球磁暴的产生过程等提供科学数据支持. 该阵列中性原子成像仪创新地将飞行时间法与二维编码调制成像技术相结合, 实现了单粒子事件精确探测及大尺度高分辨的磁层中性原子遥感成像. 鹊桥二号中继星阵列中性原子成像仪可用于测量4~200 keV H原子和8~250 keV O原子, 且能量分辨率优于1 keV@10 keV. 同时, 其仪器视场角大于20°×45°, 中性原子遥感图像分辨率优于0.5°. 为准确标定阵列中性原子成像仪的上述性能指标, 开展阵列中性原子成像仪定标方法研究. 通过加速器束流定标测试验证阵列中性原子成像仪对中性原子的种类鉴别及能量测量能力, 通过光学定标测试验证阵列中性原子成像仪视场覆盖范围及生成图像的分辨率. 定标测试结果表明, 阵列中性原子成像仪对H原子和O原子的测量能力可覆盖设计指标.

The Grid-based Energetic Neutral Atom imager (GENA) onboard the Queqiao-2 Satellite is the first lunar-based magnetospheric Energetic Neutral Atom (ENA) panoramic remote sensing imaging payload. It aims to provide scientific data support for the study of the injection triggering mechanism of the Earth’s magnetospheric substorm, the magnetotail energy conversion mechanism, and the generation process of the Earth’s magnetic storm through high temporal and spatial resolution observation data. The GENA innovatively combines the time-of-flight method with the two-dimensional coded modulation imaging technology to achieve accurate detection of single-particle events and large-scale, high-resolution magnetospheric neutral atom remote sensing imaging. It can be used to measure 4~200 keV H atoms and 8~250 keV O atoms, and the energy resolution is better than 1 keV @10 keV. At the same time, its instrument field of view is greater than 20°×45°, and the resolution of ENA remote sensing images is better than 0.5°. To accurately calibrate the above performance indicators of the GENA, a study on the calibration method of the GENA was carried out. The accelerator beam calibration test verifies the GENA’s ability to identify the type of neutral atoms and measure their energy, and the optical calibration test verifies the GENA’s field of view coverage and image resolution. The calibration test results show that the GENA’s ability to measure H and O atoms can cover the design indicators.

磁层是地球周围的一个巨大等离子体空间区域, 其主要作用是使地球免受太阳风中高速等离子体的冲击[1]. 当太阳风中的等离子体向地球移动时, 地球磁层会将绝大部分等离子体排斥在外[2]. 而当磁层受到剧烈太阳活动影响时, 引发球磁层扰动, 形成地磁暴. 地磁暴过程中所释放的能量粒子是人类航天遭遇最严重威胁之一, 同时也是太阳能量向地面传递的必由之路[3]. 磁暴可以导致导航通讯中断、地面长距离油气管网电网故障、在轨卫星故障异常或轨道异常衰减等灾害, 甚至造成航天器减寿, 威胁航空旅客及宇航员健康等后果[1,3,4]. 因此迫切需要更深入认识磁层能量离子的分布演化, 掌握其动态演化和变化规律.
中性原子成像技术作为磁层探测的关键手段之一, 能够实现对磁层的全局遥感成像, 为磁层物理过程研究提供直观的观测数据. 世界各国已发射或立项多个卫星计划对磁层进行探测, 围绕的关键问题就是磁层能量储存、触发、释放的时序因果问题. 迄今为止, ISEE[5]、Polar[6]、IMAGE[7]、双星计划[8]已圆满完成任务, Cluster[9]、THEMIS[10]、MMS[11]仍在继续履行使命, SMILE[12]也将踏上新的征程. 美国的IMAGE卫星搭载的高能中性原子成像仪(High-Energy Neutral-Atom imager, HENA)首次实现了磁层全局ENA (Energetic Neutral Atom)成像, 为磁层亚暴、磁尾动力学等研究提供了大量宝贵数据[7]. 欧洲的Cluster卫星搭载的离子谱仪等载荷虽能进行局地探测, 但缺乏全局成像能力[9]. 日本的THEMIS卫星通过多卫星协同观测, 结合ENA探测数据, 在磁层亚暴触发机制研究中取得了重要进展, 但同样受限于观测视角和时空分辨率[10]. 中国双星计划搭载的中性原子探测单元(Energetic NeUtral Atom Detector Unit, NUADU)实现了对磁层ENA的初步探测, 为中国开展磁层ENA探测积累了经验[8], 但在能量覆盖范围、时空分辨率等方面与国际先进水平仍存在差距.
鹊桥二号上搭载的阵列中性原子成像仪(Grid-based Energetic Neutral Atom imager, GENA)在月球轨道通过遥感手段对由磁层俘获的等离子体与背景中性原子发生电荷交换产生的能量中性原子(主要为H原子、O原子)进行成像观测, 其能够实现对地球磁层的全景式遥感成像, 避免了近地轨道探测器的观测视角限制, 可获取磁层全局的动态演化信息. 此外, GENA首次将飞行时间法与二维编码调制成像技术相结合, 既保证了单粒子事件的精确探测, 又实现了大尺度高分辨率成像, 突破了传统成像仪在分辨率与观测范围之间的矛盾. 因此, 其感测数据将全面更新当前对磁尾的认识, 为研究地球磁层亚暴注入触发机制、磁尾能量转化机制及地球磁暴的产生过程等提供坚实的数据支持.
阵列中性原子成像仪主要由内、外偏转板, 二维编码孔板, 飞行时间测量系统、电子学系统以及与其相适配的软件组成, 其硬件结构组成如图1所示. 其中飞行时间测量系统是阵列中性原子成像仪最主要的功能单元, 主要实现入射粒子起始、截止位置, 二次电子幅值及相对飞行时间的测量, 利用这些信息可进行粒子种类、粒子能量及粒子径迹的分析. 飞行时间测量系统主要由碳膜、二次电子加速栅网、微通道板(Microchannel Plate, MCP)传感器、位置灵敏阳极及其信号读出电路组成. 地面定标实验过程中, 测试的核心部件是其中的探头及电子学系统, 目的是验证仪器的各项性能参数能否满足设计要求.
阵列中性原子成像仪的飞行时间测量系统结构如图2所示, 其主要关键部件包括: 超薄碳膜、二次电子加速栅网、微通道板(MCP)传感器、位置灵敏阳极和信号读出电路.
超薄碳膜位于飞行时间测量系统的前端, 作为入射粒子的起始信号产生装置. 当中性原子撞击碳膜时, 会产生二次电子, 同时原子自身发生电离. 二次电子加速栅网于碳膜后方, 其作用是将碳膜产生的二次电子加速至微通道板(MCP)传感器, MCP传感器位于二次电子加速栅网后方, 用于放大二次电子信号, 产生脉冲信号作为粒子飞行的截止信号. 位置灵敏阳极采用延迟线阳极结构, 与MCP 传感器紧密贴合, 用于测量二次电子脉冲的位置信息, 从而确定入射粒子的径迹. 信号读出电路与位置灵敏阳极相连, 包括前置放大器、甄别器、时间数字转换(Time to Digital Converter, TDC)芯片等, 用于将阳极输出的电信号转换为可测量的数字信号, 实现飞行时间、二次电子幅值及位置信息的提取.
地面定标实验过程中, 所测试的核心部件是其中的探头(含飞行时间测量系统)及电子学系统, 目的是验证仪器的各项性能参数能否满足设计要求.
阵列中性原子成像仪的主要性能指标及对应的定标试验项目如表1所示.
中性原子束流定标主要用于验证仪器的中性原子种类鉴别能力、能量范围及能量分辨率等性能指标, 包括中性原子种类鉴别定标、能量范围定标和能量分辨率定标三个试验项目.
阵列中性原子成像仪利用复旦大学核科学与技术系近代物理所建设并运行的多电荷态束流碰撞平台产生的中性原子束流进行定标测试. 该平台由离子源、离子加速系统、磁分析仪、电荷交换气室及靶室组成, 可提供能量范围为10~100 keV的H, C, O等常用气体源原子束流. 该平台对能量为10~40 keV范围内的H原子束流, 连续运行1 h的流量波动不超过±5%; 对能量为10~100 keV范围内的O原子束, 连续运行1 h的流量波动不超过±10%. 对于流量不确定度, 由于复旦大学中性原子加速器实验室未进行绝对标定, 暂无其流量不确定度数据. 此外, 该平台输出的中性粒子成分纯度高于99.9%.
离子源产生的离子经加速高压加速引出, 加速后的离子束流经电荷态与能量双重筛选后, 穿过电荷交换气室并与其中的中性气体分子发生相互作用, 通过俘获电子转化为低价态离子或中性原子. 通过电荷交换气室后置的高压电场可以剔除非中性束流, 输出略小于电荷交换前离子能量的中性原子束流. 加速器实验室如图3所示.
受限于实验平台空间及束流尺寸, 仅将阵列中性原子成像仪的飞行时间测量系统(探头)放入平台真空腔体中进行定标测试. 多电荷态束流碰撞平台结构组成及阵列中性原子成像仪探头测试状态的安装方式如图4所示.
通过对上述多电荷态束流碰撞平台的调节, 产生不同能量的H, O中性原子束流. 分别将其注入阵列中性原子成像仪的探头, 通过仪器输出数据处理得到已知束流条件下单机测量得到的中性原子种类、计数和能量信息, 验证单机粒子种类鉴别能力、能量分辨率、能量测量范围的性能指标.
(1)飞行时间计算. 中性原子的飞行时间由其能量和飞行距离决定, 基于阵列中性原子成像仪的结构设计, 根据相对论能量公式

可得飞行时间

其中, L为飞行距离, E为原子能量, m为原子质量. 对于H原子(质量mH=1.674×10–27 kg), 当能量范围为4~200 keV时, 代入上式计算可得飞行时间范围为8~66.3 ns; 对于O原子(质量mO=2.657×10–26 kg), 能量范围为8~250 keV时, 飞行时间范围为28.9~187.5 ns. 因此, 二者的飞行时间在28.9~ 66.3 ns处重合, 对应能量为2.95~15.53 keV的氢原子, 47.22~250 keV氧原子.
(2)原子种类鉴别方法. 对于非重合能量段H原子和O原子, 即飞行时间小于28.9 ns对应的H原子(能量<15.53 keV)和飞行时间大于66.3 ns对应的O原子(能量>47.22 keV), 可直接通过飞行时间进行鉴别. 对于重合能量段H原子和O原子, 由于H原子和O原子的质量不同, 当其以相同速度撞击碳膜时, 产生的二次电子幅值存在显著差异. 因此, 对于飞行时间在28.9~66.3 ns 范围内的粒子, 结合飞行时间ts和二次电子幅值V进行二维判别[13,14].
记录每个能量点的能谱分布图像, 并通过高斯拟合得到对应的能谱响应曲线. 随后, 利用不同能量原子及其峰位的刻度数据, 进行线性拟合, 从而得到探头对H, O原子的能量响应曲线. 由于多电荷态束流碰撞平台提供的H, O原子束流能量无法完全覆盖GENA的设计范围, 因此需结合仪器自身对飞行时间的测量范围, 进行线性外推, 以确认仪器可实现H原子4~200 keV, O原子8~250 keV测量范围的覆盖.
能量范围定标的误差主要来源于束流能量不确定度、飞行时间测量误差和线性拟合误差三个方面. 综合误差分析表明, 能量范围测量的总不确定度小于±3%.
记录每个能量点的能谱分布图像, 并通过高斯拟合得到对应的能谱响应曲线, 以获取其对应的半高宽. 该半高宽即为在该测试方法下测试系统的能量展宽. 通过公式

计算测量能量的偏差. 其中, $\Delta E_{\mathrm{Ins}}^2 $为仪器测量偏差, $\Delta E_{\mathrm{Beam}}^2 $为束流自身的能量偏差. 对于H原子, 其经电荷交换气室后, 能量离散范围为300~500 eV, 取能量值为400 eV进行计算; 对于O原子, 其经电荷交换气室后, 能量离散范围为500~2000 eV, 取能量值为1200 eV进行计算. 通过
$ \lambda=\frac{\Delta E_{\mathrm{Mea}}}{E_x} \times 100 \% $
计算仪器在各能量点上的能量分辨率.
能量分辨率定标的误差主要来源于两个方面. 一是飞行时间测量误差, 其由定时误差(主要由信号上升沿抖动引起)、量化误差(由TDC芯片的采样精度决定, 本仪器采用的TDC芯片采样周期为81 ps, 量化误差为±40.5 ps)和飞行距离误差(由部件安装精度导致的飞行距离偏差, 通过精密机械加工和校准, 将飞行距离误差控制在±0.1 mm以内)构成. 二是束流能量离散误差, 复旦大学中性原子加速器实验室的测试结果表明, H原子束流的能量离散为 300~500 eV, O原子束流的能量离散为 500~2000 eV, 该误差已在数据处理中通过公式扣除.
光学等效定标主要用于验证仪器的视场范围和角分辨率等方向响应指标, 包括视场角定标和角分辨率定标两个试验项目. 由于阵列中性原子成像仪视场及角分辨率主要由偏转板及编码调制系统决定. 但受限于仪器尺寸(无法将仪器整体置于束流测试平台中进行测试)及束流条件(中性原子束斑为2 mm), 同时考虑中性原子在空间中直线传播的粒子特性, 因此可通过光学定标系统替代中性原子束流进行等效定标.
对于视场, 通过精测镜进行仪器物理结构相对位置的准确建模, 并获取其安装状态的视场角. 对于角分辨率, 在相同探测位置, 对经编码孔板调制后, 两个成一定夹角的点光源所发出的光线进行探测, 再通过对探测图像的反演解调, 等效计算出中性原子反演图像的角分辨率. 在上述过程中, 还需考虑中性原子经碳膜后产生的离散效应, 并对其进行等效模糊处理.
对于仪器视场角测量, 使用一台激光跟踪仪和两台电子经纬仪. 激光跟踪仪用于准确测量精测镜的空间位置, 电子经纬仪用于辅助定位和角度校准.
对于角分辨率测量, 在光学洁净间进行, 光源距二维编码孔板距离为7 m. 两个独立光源相对于成像面中心点成0.43°放置, 成像探测器灵敏面阵为60 mm×60 mm. 编码孔板及后端成像面阵安装在经发黑处理的专用定标测试箱中, 以消除反光干扰. 现场测试状态如图5所示.
视场测量过程中, 按照图6所示的位置安装精测镜, 并依据图中给出的平面关系进行位置建模. 单机A探头二维方向的视场角为面1-1与面1-2间的夹角以及面1-3与面1-4间的夹角, 单机B探头与此类似. 通过激光跟踪仪测量各精测镜的空间坐标, 重建仪器各关键平面的空间位置, 计算得到各平面间的夹角, 即为仪器的视场角.
通过调节曝光时间, 采集经编码调制后的图像, 分别测量3次. 将成像数据截取到 30 mm×90 mm(碳膜面积)的区域进行图像重建. 通过不同计数水平下反演算法的优化, 探索最佳插值及迭代次数, 最终确定插值步长为0.05°, 迭代次数为500次.
角分辨率的评估采用瑞丽判据和像斑高斯拟合两种方法. 瑞丽判据: 当两个像点的衍射光斑中心间距等于其中一个光斑的半高宽时, 认为两个像点可分辨. 像斑高斯拟合: 对反演得到的像点图像进行高斯拟合, 得到两个像斑的中心位置和半高宽, 计算中心间距与半高宽的比值, 当比值大于1时, 满足瑞丽判据, 可准确分辨.
通过地检软件进行数据采集后, 按照仪器下行数据格式提取相关数据. 由于中性原子能量受到多电荷态束流碰撞平台能力的限制, 实验过程中, 用于定标的H原子能量范围为10~40 keV, O原子能量范围为10~100 keV.
图7为H原子和O 原子的二次电子幅值统计分布. 从图7可以看出, H原子的二次电子幅值主要集中在100~300 mV区间; O原子的二次电子幅值主要集中在400~1000 mV区间, 二者的幅值分布仅有少量重叠, 可通过幅值进行有效区分.
表2为不同能量H原子和O原子的种类鉴别准确率. 以10 keV H原子为例, 甄别准确率的计算方法为在该能量下, 共注入10000个H原子束流, 仪器正确识别为H原子的数量为9124个, 误判为O原子的数量为876个, 因此鉴别准确率为 9124/10000×100%=91.24%. 其他能量点的鉴别准确率计算方法相同.
该定标测试结果表明, 阵列中性原子成像仪对H原子和O原子的分辨率优于90%. 由于低能H与高能O的飞行时间存在重合区段, 当处于此能段的H原子和O原子撞击碳膜, 且产生的二次电子数量恰好相等时, 将导致二者误判. 这是导致飞行时间重合区段的H原子和O原子误判的主要原因[16].
由于多电荷态束流碰撞平台提供的H原子和O原子束流能量无法完全覆盖阵列中性原子成像仪的设计范围, 还需结合仪器自身对飞行时间的测量范围, 进行线性外推. 阵列中性原子成像仪采用时间数字转换(TDC)芯片进行飞行时间测量, TDC读出值与飞行时间的对应关系如图8所示.
图9给出了直接测量的H原子飞行时间与入射粒子能量的分布图. 从图9可以看出, 飞行时间随能量的增加而减小, 呈现明显的反比关系, 与理论计算结果一致.
依据阵列中性原子成像仪对不同能量H原子和O原子(10, 13, 17, 20, 30, 33, 37和40 keV氢原子束; 10, 13, 17, 20, 30, 33, 37, 40, 50, 70, 90和100 keV氧原子束)的飞行时间测量谱, 分别通过高斯拟合得到各能量点飞行时间峰位, 其测试结果见表3. 通过不同能量原子及其峰位的刻度, 可线性拟合得到阵列中性原子成像仪探头对H原子和O原子的能量刻度曲线, EH=20695.976/ts–1.568 (R2=0.9973), EO=240931.239/ts+4.104 (R2=0.9995). 结合该曲线及TDC实测飞行时间范围, 可验证阵列中性原子成像仪H原子测量范围可覆盖4~200 keV, O原子测量范围可覆盖8~250 keV.
与能量范围的数据处理过程相同, 获取各能量点飞行时间的峰位(见表3). 之后, 使用能量范围定标获得能量–飞行时间刻度关系, 计算各能点下H原子和O原子的能量分布曲线, 并使用高斯拟合得到该能量点对应的能量展宽.
图10给出了10 keV H原子和10 keV O原子束流测试条件下的能谱分布及高斯拟合曲线. 从图10可以看出, 能谱分布呈现典型的高斯分布特征. 通过高斯拟合得到仪器对10 keV H原子能量测量结果的半高宽(FWHM)为0.95 keV, 扣除束流能量偏差(400 eV)后, 仪器自身的能量展宽后约为0.862 keV, 即能量分辨率为0.862 keV @10 keV. 同理, 10 keV O原子的半高宽为1.500 keV, 扣除束流能量偏差(1200 eV)后, 仪器自身的能量展宽约为 0.90 keV, 能量分辨率为0.90 keV@10 keV. 因此, 依据加速器束流定标结果, 可确认阵列中性原子成像仪对10 keV H原子和O原子的能量分辨率均优于1 keV.
依据图6所示的平面关系, 通过对精测镜测量结果的空间重建, 可得到仪器各面间的相对夹角. 探头A和B视场相关角度的测量结果如表4所示. 测试结果清晰表明, 阵列中性原子成像仪在全调制视场为19.72°×45.07°, 在半调制视场为29.04°×59.86°, 满足设计指标 (大于20°×45°).
光源所发出的光线经编码孔板调制后, 在探测平面上投影的图像经数据截取后, 优选计数5×104下使用MLEM (Maximum Likelihood Expectation Maximization)算法进行反演计算, 间隔插值0.05°迭代500次. 图11给出了反演得到的两个点光源像点图像, 两个像点的中心间距为0.43°, 通过高斯拟合得到两个像斑的半高宽分别为0.38°和 0.39°, 中心间距与半高宽的比值分别为1.13和1.10, 均大于1, 满足瑞丽判据, 表明两个像点可清晰分辨. 因此, 阵列中性原子成像仪二维编码孔调制成像系统的图像角分辨率优于0.5°.
阵列中性原子成像仪是为月球探测任务设计的科学载荷, 将对地球磁尾进行遥感成像观测, 获得的数据将用于研究地球磁层亚暴注入触发机制、磁尾能量转化机制及地球磁暴的产生过程. 基于阵列中性原子成像仪的地面标定方法, 详细分析了阵列中性原子成像仪的规格和性能. 目前, 该仪器已顺利完成在轨测试工作, 在轨测试数据正在分析中, 预计后期常态化在轨运行阶段将为空间科学界提供高质量的科学数据.
