The bidirectional Medium-Energy Proton Detector (MEPD) onboard the lunar surface exploration subsystem of the Chang’E-7 lander represents the first-ever implementation of dual-direction medium-energy proton measurements on the Moon. It is capable of providing spectral data of upward- and downward-directed medium-energy protons in the range of 0.03~30 MeV, offering crucial support for modeling the lunar particle radiation environment and for radiation protection in future crewed lunar missions. The unique challenges of ground calibration for the MEPD were addressed in this study. An electron accelerator was employed to achieve proton-equivalent energy calibration, while the full energy range was validated by analyzing the deposited energy of penetrating high-energy protons. In addition, the suppression capability against electron contamination was quantitatively evaluated through a combined approach of accelerator experiments and numerical simulations. The results show that the detector’s energy calibration deviation is better than 3%, its electron-rejection efficiency exceeds 94% for energies at or below 1.4 MeV, and the average geometric factors of the upward-and downward-facing detectors are 0.053 cm–2·sr–1 and 0.3041 cm–2·sr–1, respectively. These calibration results provide a reliable foundation for in-orbit data inversion. Furthermore, the established calibration and simulation framework offers valuable reference for the future calibration of lunar and deep-space charged-particle detectors.

嫦娥七号着陆器月表探测分系统搭载的双向中能质子探测器是国际首次实现月表双指向中能质子探测, 可以提供月表朝天和对地向中能质子的能谱数据(0.03~30 MeV), 为月球粒子辐射环境建模以及载人登月辐射防护等提供重要的数据支撑. 针对中能质子探测器地面定标的特殊问题, 利用电子加速器实现质子等效能量的标定, 结合高能质子穿透后的沉积能量实现全能段验证, 并通过加速器实验与仿真相结合的方法量化电子污染抑制能力. 研究表明, 探测器能量刻度偏差优于3%; 抗电子污染能力在1.4 MeV及以下, 优于94%; 朝天向探头几何因子平均值为0.053 cm–2·sr–1; 对地向探头几何因子平均值为0.3041 cm–2·sr–1. 定标结果为在轨数据反演提供了可靠基础, 所建立的定标仿真体系对未来月球及深空带电粒子探测器校准具有重要借鉴意义.

嫦娥七号着陆器月表探测分系统搭载的双向中能质子探测器是国际首次实现月表双指向中能质子探测, 可以提供月表朝天和对地向中能质子的能谱数据(0.03~30 MeV), 为月球粒子辐射环境建模以及载人登月辐射防护等提供重要的数据支撑. 针对中能质子探测器地面定标的特殊问题, 利用电子加速器实现质子等效能量的标定, 结合高能质子穿透后的沉积能量实现全能段验证, 并通过加速器实验与仿真相结合的方法量化电子污染抑制能力. 研究表明, 探测器能量刻度偏差优于3%; 抗电子污染能力在1.4 MeV及以下, 优于94%; 朝天向探头几何因子平均值为0.053 cm–2·sr–1; 对地向探头几何因子平均值为0.3041 cm–2·sr–1. 定标结果为在轨数据反演提供了可靠基础, 所建立的定标仿真体系对未来月球及深空带电粒子探测器校准具有重要借鉴意义.

The bidirectional Medium-Energy Proton Detector (MEPD) onboard the lunar surface exploration subsystem of the Chang’E-7 lander represents the first-ever implementation of dual-direction medium-energy proton measurements on the Moon. It is capable of providing spectral data of upward- and downward-directed medium-energy protons in the range of 0.03~30 MeV, offering crucial support for modeling the lunar particle radiation environment and for radiation protection in future crewed lunar missions. The unique challenges of ground calibration for the MEPD were addressed in this study. An electron accelerator was employed to achieve proton-equivalent energy calibration, while the full energy range was validated by analyzing the deposited energy of penetrating high-energy protons. In addition, the suppression capability against electron contamination was quantitatively evaluated through a combined approach of accelerator experiments and numerical simulations. The results show that the detector’s energy calibration deviation is better than 3%, its electron-rejection efficiency exceeds 94% for energies at or below 1.4 MeV, and the average geometric factors of the upward-and downward-facing detectors are 0.053 cm–2·sr–1 and 0.3041 cm–2·sr–1, respectively. These calibration results provide a reliable foundation for in-orbit data inversion. Furthermore, the established calibration and simulation framework offers valuable reference for the future calibration of lunar and deep-space charged-particle detectors.

嫦娥七号任务计划对月球极区开展多项科学探测, 其中空间粒子环境监测是重要科学目标之一. 月表粒子辐射环境的精确测量是认知宇宙线调制机制、评估宇航员辐射风险的核心环节. 中能质子探测器(Medium Energy Proton Detector, MEPD)作为嫦娥七号有效载荷之一, 对0.03~30 MeV宽能域质子能谱的双指向测量, 既可用于研究太阳风及宇宙射线调制机制, 也可为未来载人登月任务提供辐射风险评估依据.
类似探测器已应用于前期任务, 例如风云三号E星的空间环境监测载荷Ⅱ(SEM-Ⅱ)、空间站实验舱I的中能质子探测器, 在近地轨道测得的质子谱为研究地球辐射带提供了宝贵数据, 也为月球任务的带电粒子探测器设计积累了重要参考. 为保障嫦娥七号中能质子探测器在轨数据的准确性与可靠性, 针对嫦娥七号中能质子探测器, 进行了地面定标和仿真研究. 重点阐述探测器的测量原理与定标方案, 并通过对比典型实验与仿真结果系统论证其探测性能.
嫦娥七号着陆器月表探测分系统的中能探头由5个组件构成, 包括朝天和对地向的中能电子探头和中能质子探头以及电子学箱构成, 如图1(a)所示. 中能质子探头由准直仪、硅半导体传感器、挡光层以及机壳组成. 其中SmCo磁铁和软铁置于准直仪内部, SmCo磁铁用以产生偏转磁场, 磁铁外侧周围和上部包裹软铁, 抑制磁场的外泄. 磁铁产生的磁场能够有效偏转探测视场内MeV以下的电子, 使其偏出探测路径, 从而显著降低电子对质子测量的干扰; 只有极少数高能电子经过偏转后仍进入探测器通道, 这些电子最终被硅探测器的反符合触发排除, 降低电子对中能质子探测的污染. 硅半导体传感器有两片组成, 第一片用于脉冲幅度的测量; 第二片用于反符合, 排除高能质子电子的干扰. 当第二片传感器无信号时, 第一片的信号对应较低能量的质子; 当第二片传感器有信号时, 第一片的信号对应较高能量的质子或电子.
中能质子探头具体能档划分列于表1, 测量的能量范围为0.03~30 MeV. 为实现该宽动态范围, 在电子学上采用了两路放大倍数组合实现, 其中第一路为高增益放大电路, 对0.03~350 keV的质子脉冲信号进行测量; 第二路为低增益放大电路, 对0.35~30 MeV的质子脉冲信号进行测量. 仪器的详细物理设计参见相应的仪器研制文献[1].
中能质子探头的定标主要依托于加速器实验, 涉及质子能量刻度和抗电子污染能力评估等项目. 定标的实验场所包括中国科学院国家空间科学中心的中高能电子加速器和中国科学院新疆理化技术研究所质子位移损伤效应模拟装置(Proton Displacement Damage Effect Simulation Facility, PREF), 加速器关键参数列于表2.
能量刻度直接关系到仪器在轨测量的准确性和能谱反演能力. 由于质子加速器的能量范围限制, 研究利用质子束对高能部分(第二路放大电路)进行标定; 对于低能部分(第一路放大电路), 则利用等效能量损失原理, 借助仿真得到不同能量质子和电子在第一片传感器中沉积能量的对应关系(见图2)实现间接标定. 图2中黑色点线左侧表示电子在第一片传感器完全沉积后与质子的等效关系, 右侧表示电子穿透第一片传感器后与质子的等效关系.
根据上述等效关系, 在取下探头内部磁铁的情况下, 利用电子加速器对探头进行标定[24], 定标实验的现场装置如图3所示. 图3(a)为中国科学院国家空间科学中心的中高能电子加速器, 图3(b)为中国科学院新疆理化技术研究所质子位移损伤效应模拟装置.
能量刻度实验按照如下步骤进行. 利用质子或电子加速器发射不同能量的准单能粒子束, 从探头开口进入探测单元, 并通过电子学系统采集输出的脉冲幅度信号. 根据电子束和质子束测试得到的脉冲幅度谱, 选取各能量对应峰值所在道址的ADC值与仿真得到的沉积能量相对应, 建立能量刻度关系, 如图4所示.
中能质子探测器在轨工作时, 不可避免地受到电子入射的干扰, 为抑制电子对质子测量的影响, 嫦娥七号中能质子探测器采用了永久磁体偏转结构, 有效将大部分视场内的电子从探测路径中偏离, 同时通过第二片传感器对电子的反符合, 进一步抑制电子噪声干扰[4]. 在中能质子探头完整(带磁铁)的条件下, 利用怀柔电子加速器发射不同能量、不同角度的电子束, 对探测器输出脉冲信号情况进行测量, 依据该信号分析仪器的磁偏转能力为

反符合能力为

其中, M为在第一片传感器中产生响应的入射电子数, A为同时在第一片和第二片传感器中产生响应的电子数, ϕ为进入视场开口的电子总数[4]. 由式(1)和式(2)可以得到仪器的抗电子污染能力为
$ \kappa =\frac{\phi -(M-A)}{\phi } . $
除开展地面实验外, 基于GEANT4建立了探测器性能详细的蒙特卡罗仿真, 包括入射角度对质子沉积能量的影响、仪器抗电子干扰实验的复核和几何因子的计算. 几何因子(Geometric factor)反映了探测器对粒子通量的接受能力, 是由探测器结构和有效面积决定的关键系数. 在轨环境中将探测到的计数率转换为物理通量时, 需除以几何因子. 几何因子的计算通常采用蒙特卡罗仿真方法. 建立MEPD的详细几何模型(包括硅探测器、反符合杯、磁偏转装置及屏蔽结构等), 并在模拟中施加实际磁场, 模拟各向同性或指定方向的入射粒子, 考虑粒子与物质相互作用(例如电离、散射、发射二次粒子等)和死层效应, 记录粒子在每层探测器的能量沉积, 以获得每个入射能量下探测器输出的响应概率, 进而获得各能量通道的几何因子[5].
仿真同样用于量化电子干扰影响. 在COMSOL中建立了磁铁和软铁的三维模型, 得到中能探头磁铁磁场的分布如图5所示. 图5(b)为沿径向切面的磁场位型图, 横纵坐标分别为距离磁场轴心线的距离, 可以看出磁铁外磁通密度模随着与轴心线距离的增加而迅速衰减, 在距离磁铁轴心线5 cm处, 磁通密度模已降至1×10–3 T以下. 为了验证仿真结果的有效性, 利用高斯计对实际磁铁的磁通密度模进行测量, 如图6所示, 在距离轴心线3 cm处某点的磁通密度模为1×10–2.5 T, 距离轴心线5 cm处某点的磁通密度模为1×10–3.15 T, 与仿真结果近似.
将该三维磁场分布导入GEANT4探头模型后, 对不同能量电子、质子的运动轨迹进行模拟, 可形象给出电子在偏转磁场中的偏转过程(见图7)以及质子的运动路径(见图8).
通过在带磁场条件下, 对视场外质子入射探测器的响应仿真, 以30 keV的质子为例, 显示磁场对视场外质子无明显偏转作用, 无法对视场内质子的测量造成干扰. 对不同能量电子产生的虚假信号仿真, 将仿真结果与加速器测试结果进行对比. 结果显示, 磁场明显提高了对电子干扰的抑制能力, 绝大多数MeV以下电子被磁场偏转出视场, 只有极少量高能电子误入探测通道, 而进入通道的高能电子被反符合有效剔除. 综合统计, 在正常磁偏转条件下, 电子对质子通道的误触发概率极低.
对朝天和对地探头的两级增益通道分别进行了电子束和质子束入射测试, 获得了各能量点的归一化脉冲幅度分布谱 (见图9). 横坐标为仪器输出的ADC值, 纵坐标为归一化后每道计数, 不同颜色代表不同入射能量. 由质子响应谱可以看出, 随着质子能量的增加, 质子逐渐穿透第一层探测器, 第一层的沉积能随之减小(例如10 MeV质子沉积能量为2.8 MeV, 20 MeV质子沉积能量为1.48 MeV), 因此峰值通道逐渐左移(入射质子的能量越高, 在第一层探测器中沉积的能量越少, 对应的ADC值越低).
由仿真得到的质子与电子在第一片传感器中沉积能量与入射能量映射如图10所示.
利用高斯函数拟合公式对每个能量点的响应谱进行高斯拟合, 提取峰值的ADC与仿真得到的沉积能量进行线性拟合, 得到如图11所示的能量刻度函数, 黑色符号代表第一路高增益通道, 红色符号代表第二路低增益通道.
测试结果表明, 探测器对入射粒子的响应在测试能段内呈良好的线性关系, 各标定点基本落在拟合直线附近. 拟合计算得到朝天向第一路增益的ADC输出与沉积能量拟合结果的偏差为1.63%, 第二路增益的ADC输出与沉积能量拟合结果的偏差为2.66%; 对地向第一路增益的ADC输出与沉积能量拟合结果的偏差为1.15%, 第二路增益的ADC输出与沉积能量拟合结果的偏差为1.26%. 这说明探测器在整个测量范围内均具备近似线性的响应特性. 尤其值得注意的是, 在第二增益通道标定中同时采用了质子束和电子束, 两种粒子的刻度数据在同一拟合曲线上实现了平滑过渡, 未出现明显的偏移, 这一现象充分证明, 利用电子束等效低能质子能量进行标定的有效性, 为在缺乏低能质子束源的情况下实现精准刻度提供了可行性途径.
在不同能量、不同角度(相对于传感器法线方向)电子入射的测试中, 分别评估了探测器的磁偏转能力和反符合效率(见图12图13). 图14给出了磁偏转与反符合共同作用下的综合抗电子污染效率. 由图1214可知, 磁偏转能力和反符合能力组合后能够将1.4 MeV及以下的电子对中能质子探头质子通道的污染降至6%以下, 对应的电子抑制率优于94%(朝天探头94.8%, 对地探头94.0%). 朝天探头因视场角度较小, 其电子污染抑制效率略高于对地探头, 符合设计预期. 测试表明, 磁体偏转装置能将绝大多数MeV级以下的电子挡除在探测视场之外, 而反符合电路可以有效识别并排除极少数进入探测器的高能电子信号. 例如, 对于能量低于约1 MeV的电子, 由于其在磁场中的轨道半径较小, 几乎全部在进入探测器前即被偏转出去; 仅有极个别能量高于约1.4 MeV的电子能够通过磁偏转区进入探测器通道, 但最终也会被第二片传感器触发的反符合加以识别和排除, 充分保证了质子谱测量的纯净度.
利用GEANT4对完整探头的仿真进一步验证, 仿真结果与实验观测到的有效抑制效果一致, 如图15所示, 少量偏差主要来自COMSOL仿真所用磁场模型与真实磁场之间的差异. 此外, 针对不同入射角下的电子干扰情况进行了仿真研究, 如图16所示. 结果表明, 即使入射方向相对传感器法线存在5°的偏差, 仪器对各方位角电子的抑制效率仍能保持在90%以上. 这一仿真分析为在轨数据处理中进行电子背景扣除提供了重要依据.
中能质子探测器朝天向的视场角为41° (即与传感器法向夹角为20.5°), 对地向的视场角为53°. 在此视场范围内, 不同入射角度的质子经过探测器/挡光层材料的路径不同, 在传感器中产生的沉积能量也不同. 基于GEANT4模拟了视场内不同入射角度质子在传感器中沉积能量的情况, 结果如图17所示.
图17(b)可知在较低能段(<50 keV)和刚穿出传感器后的较高能段(约6.50 MeV), 入射角度对沉积能量的影响较大. 低能段进入传感器后, 沉积能量随着角度的增加而减小; 较高能段穿出传感器后, 在传感器中的沉积能量随着角度的增加而增加. 以7 MeV质子为例, 与0°入射相比, 5°偏角沉积能量增加了0.58%, 10°偏角沉积能量增加了2.29%, 20°偏角沉积能量增加了9.91%. 因此, 如果忽略入射角引起的沉积能量差异, 可能会低估高能端质子能谱的反演结果. 为确保测量精度, 本研究在几何因子计算时应用了覆盖全视场的蒙特卡罗模拟方法, 综合不同入射角度的响应进行处理[5,6].
基于GEANT4的各向同性粒子束流模拟, 计算了探头各能道的几何因子, 并绘制了随能量变化的曲线 (见图18). 由图18可以看出, 不同能道的几何因子存在细微差异, 主要由探头的结构几何和能量吸收效率决定. 统计分析得到, 朝天探头几何因子均值约为0.053 cm–2·sr–1, 对地探头几何因子均值约为0.304 cm–2·sr–1. 对地探头几何因子显著大于朝天探头, 这是由于对地探头的视场开口较大, 所获得的几何因子值可作为后续在轨通量反演的基本校正系数. 对地探头几何因子均值约为朝天探头的5.7倍(0.3041, 0.053), 这一比值与两探头有效视场立体角的差异基本一致. 更大的几何因子意味着对地探头在相同粒子通量下能够记录更多的粒子计数, 从而提高探测灵敏度.
通过粒子加速器实验与蒙特卡罗仿真相结合的方法, 对嫦娥七号中能质子探测器进行了全面的标定与性能评估. 地面实验获得了仪器的能量刻度及其偏差、电子污染抑制效率和几何因子等关键参数. 结果表明, 探测器在全量程内具有良好的线性响应, 能量刻度精度优于3%; 设计的磁偏转+反符合结构能够有效排除电子干扰, 保证了质子谱测量的纯净度; GEANT4仿真与实验结果吻合良好, 定量评估了电子干扰对观测结果的影响; 分析了不同角度入射下质子沉积能量的差别, 预测了探测器的几何因子. 该结果为嫦娥七号载荷在轨数据处理提供了坚实基础, 有利于反演月面中能质子的能谱和通量分布.
