Marine ecosystem health is under severe pressure. Therefore, scientific and effective evaluation indicators for its assessment and early warning are urgently required. Plankton is a sensitive indicator of ecosystem changes and is critical in the marine food web, supporting important ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and fishery production. Based on survey data of Jiaozhou Bay from 2003 to 2013, this study screened two types of zooplankton functional group indicators closely related to environmental changes: the dry weight biomass of traditional forage zooplankton (large crustaceans, large copepods, and small copepods), and the dry weight biomass proportion of gelatinous zooplankton (jellyfish, chaetognaths, and tunicates). These indicators represent the productivity level and stability of the functional group structure, respectively. According to the range and thresholds of the historical data, a graded evaluation standard was established. By constructing a two-dimensional coordinate plane based on zooplankton functional group indicators, according to the graded evaluation standard, the historical health status of the ecosystems in Jiaozhou Bay was classified into ecosystems with benign and risky development. These were further subdivided into seven types of health status, namely, rich-product, healthy-sustainable, benign-development, gelatinous-development, gelatinization, high-risk, and resource-scarce. This study provides a typical case using zooplankton functional groups as assessment indicators to establish an assessment system for offshore ecosystem health.

海洋生态系统健康面临严峻压力, 亟需筛选出科学有效的评价指标对其进行评估和预警。浮游生物是生态系统变化的敏感指标, 且在海洋食物网中发挥承上启下的关键作用, 支撑着碳封存和渔业生产等重要的生态系统服务。基于胶州湾2003~2013年历史调查数据, 筛选出两类与环境变化密切相关的浮游动物功能群指标: 传统饵料类浮游生物(大型甲壳类、大型桡足类和小型桡足类)干重生物量, 胶质类浮游生物(水母类、毛颚类、被囊类)干重生物量占比, 分别为代表生产力水平和功能群结构稳定性的关键指标。根据其历史数据的范围和阈值, 划定了分级评价标准。通过构建基于浮游动物功能群指标的二维坐标平面, 根据分级评价标准将胶州湾生态系统历史健康状况划分为良性发展的生态系统和风险发展的生态系统, 具体细分为7类健康状态类型, 分别是物产丰富型、健康持续型、良性发育型、胶质发展型、胶质化型、高风险型、物质匮乏型。研究结果为近海生态系统健康评估体系的建立提供了以浮游动物功能群为评估指标的典型案例。

海洋生态系统健康面临严峻压力, 亟需筛选出科学有效的评价指标对其进行评估和预警。浮游生物是生态系统变化的敏感指标, 且在海洋食物网中发挥承上启下的关键作用, 支撑着碳封存和渔业生产等重要的生态系统服务。基于胶州湾2003~2013年历史调查数据, 筛选出两类与环境变化密切相关的浮游动物功能群指标: 传统饵料类浮游生物(大型甲壳类、大型桡足类和小型桡足类)干重生物量, 胶质类浮游生物(水母类、毛颚类、被囊类)干重生物量占比, 分别为代表生产力水平和功能群结构稳定性的关键指标。根据其历史数据的范围和阈值, 划定了分级评价标准。通过构建基于浮游动物功能群指标的二维坐标平面, 根据分级评价标准将胶州湾生态系统历史健康状况划分为良性发展的生态系统和风险发展的生态系统, 具体细分为7类健康状态类型, 分别是物产丰富型、健康持续型、良性发育型、胶质发展型、胶质化型、高风险型、物质匮乏型。研究结果为近海生态系统健康评估体系的建立提供了以浮游动物功能群为评估指标的典型案例。

Marine ecosystem health is under severe pressure. Therefore, scientific and effective evaluation indicators for its assessment and early warning are urgently required. Plankton is a sensitive indicator of ecosystem changes and is critical in the marine food web, supporting important ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration and fishery production. Based on survey data of Jiaozhou Bay from 2003 to 2013, this study screened two types of zooplankton functional group indicators closely related to environmental changes: the dry weight biomass of traditional forage zooplankton (large crustaceans, large copepods, and small copepods), and the dry weight biomass proportion of gelatinous zooplankton (jellyfish, chaetognaths, and tunicates). These indicators represent the productivity level and stability of the functional group structure, respectively. According to the range and thresholds of the historical data, a graded evaluation standard was established. By constructing a two-dimensional coordinate plane based on zooplankton functional group indicators, according to the graded evaluation standard, the historical health status of the ecosystems in Jiaozhou Bay was classified into ecosystems with benign and risky development. These were further subdivided into seven types of health status, namely, rich-product, healthy-sustainable, benign-development, gelatinous-development, gelatinization, high-risk, and resource-scarce. This study provides a typical case using zooplankton functional groups as assessment indicators to establish an assessment system for offshore ecosystem health.

近年来随着人类活动和气候变化的加剧, 海洋生态系统正面临着前所未有的压力。联合国在2021年发布第二次全球海洋综合评估报告指出, 全球海洋健康状况持续恶化, 关键生态指标如生物多样性、渔业资源、海水质量等呈现显著下降趋势(Fox-Kemper et al, 2021)。海洋生态系统健康危机的严重性和紧迫性远超我们的想象, 亟需建立及时、有效的评估和预警机制。而实现这一目标的关键, 在于从生态系统的复杂功能和因果关系中筛选出科学、合理的评价与指示指标, 为海洋生态系统的保护和管理提供可靠依据。
国际上最常用的海洋生态系统健康的评估方法和标准为指示物种法和指标体系法。指示物种法依赖单一物种生物学特性, 关注某一特定种群, 难以全面反映生态系统复杂变化(马克明等, 2001; 吴玉琦等, 2024)。指标体系法虽综合多参数特征, 但指标选取常受经验限制, 在具体目标海域缺乏科学原理和因果逻辑的支撑(马克明等, 2001; 王启栋等, 2021)。此外, 海洋中最重要的组分是海洋中的生命(Hering et al, 2010; 孙松等, 2020), 传统的评估方法多依赖理化环境参数(如水温、盐度、营养盐等), 对生物群落动态的关注不足。
海洋生态系统的健康运转离不开食物网搭载的物质循环与能量流动过程, 而食物网中发挥承上启下关键作用的生物类群是海洋浮游动物(霍元子, 2008; 孙松等, 2011; McQuatters-Gollop et al, 2019)。浮游动物是能量传递枢纽, 也是生物泵驱动者, 许多国际项目如GLOBEC将浮游动物列为核心研究目标(Cushing, 1990; 张武昌等, 2001)。同时, 浮游动物分布广泛, 数量庞大, 对环境变化敏感, 是指示生态系统健康的良好载体(左涛, 2003; Richardson, 2008; McQuatters-Gollop et al, 2019)。浮游动物具有高度多样性, 生态功能和种间关系复杂(Richardson, 2008)。为了更稳健地评估浮游动物对于环境变化的响应以及其在生态系统中的指示作用, 将浮游动物划分为功能群(functional groups) (霍元子, 2008; 孙松等, 2011)。不同的浮游动物功能群类型对高营养级鱼类及渔业资源具有不同的营养贡献, 以及对生态系统健康的正负效应不同, 这为基于浮游动物的生态系统健康评估奠定了理论基础。
我们以胶州湾为例开展研究, 该海湾位于黄海北部和山东半岛南部, 是一个半封闭的近海典型海湾。胶州湾生态系统既受海洋环境变化与气候变化的多重压力, 也受人类活动的强烈影响, 该海域集聚了城市建设、工农业发展、港口运营、大型海洋工程建设、旅游及水产养殖等各类人类活动(孙松等, 2015)。自 21 世纪以来, 水母的丰度和已知物种的数量都有所增加(孙松等, 2011; 王世伟等, 2012)。胶州湾生态系统的长期变化是我国近海生态系统的缩影, 对其开展剖析可深化对中国近海生态系统健康状况的认知。
本研究在前期浮游动物功能群划分的基础上, 重点分析桡足类和胶质类浮游动物的干重生物量及其在浮游生物群落中所占的比例, 筛选出能够有效指示生态系统健康状况的关键指标, 并划定评估范围和等级, 为后续近海生态系统健康评估体系的建立提供理论基础。
胶州湾(120.10~120.37°E, 36.06~36.25°N)平均水深7 m, 最深处64 m, 海湾与黄海之间的水交换通过狭窄的湾口由半日潮(潮差2.71 m)驱动(孙松等, 2015)。其水文特征沿南北轴线有显著差异, 被划分为3个生态区: 湾北、湾南和湾外(Sun et al, 2010, 2012), 各取1个典型站位(图1)。湾北较浅(平均5 m), 有大规模海水养殖和废水排放流入。湾南水深约10 m, 是一个混合区域。湾外从湾口延伸至近海海域, 受黄海海流影响。
胶州湾调查的站位包括湾内的A3号站位(36°09′30″N, 120°15′00″E), 湾中C3号站位(36°06′00″N, 120°15′00″E)和湾外的D7号站位(35°59′00″N, 120°25′30″E) (图1)。自2003~2013年, 每月使用浅水II型浮游生物网(孔径: 160 μm, 网口面积: 0.08 m2)对浮游动物进行从距底1.5 m处到海表的垂直拖网采集, 采集的样品立即用福尔马林溶液保存。使用CTD (SBE 19 plus)测量海水表层温度与盐度。使用QuAAtro-SFA分析仪(德国Bran-Lubbe公司)测定五项营养盐浓度(硝酸盐、亚硝酸盐、磷酸盐、硅酸盐、氨氮)。使用罗森采水器采集表层海水并由Turner Designs model-10 fluorometer测量叶绿素a浓度。
浮游动物样品使用ZooScan浮游动物图像扫描分析系统(Hydroptic公司, 法国)进行分类、计数及相关分析。在实验室内使用Motoda分样器对样品进行分样, 通常分为1/4~1/128, 将分样后的样品放入24 cm×11 cm的透明框架, 使用4 800 dpi的分辨率(每个像素相当于5.29 μm2)对样本进行数字化处理。使用Zooprocess软件对扫描后的生物进行计数、测量和识别。通过Plankton Identifier软件(Duffy-Anderson et al, 2017)采用监督学习方法进行自动识别, 随后对自动分类结果进行人工验证, 以确保浮游动物类群识别的准确性。
浮游动物的丰度以每立方米水中的个体数表示, 滤水量由网口面积乘以拖网绳长计算测得。浮游动物的生物量以每立方米水中的干重、湿重(单位: mg)表示。浮游生物的面积、体积、长轴和短轴都可以换算出湿重、干重、碳重生物量, 其中通过面积换算出的生物量较为准确(毕永坤, 2011; 冯秋园, 2013), 因此本研究中统一选取面积来进行生物量的估算, 计算公式中每个物体的面积由ZooScan提供。每个类群浮游动物的生物量(mg/m3)计算公式为: 生物量=每个类群每个浮游动物扫描面积×面积生物量换算关系×(分样次数/滤水体积)。不同类群的功能群生物具有不同的转换系数, 根据文献中对于中国近海六大功能群浮游动物的实测值(毕永坤, 2011; 冯秋园, 2013), 不同类群的浮游动物面积与生物量的换算关系如表1所示, 其中被囊类换算关系参照同为胶质生物且生态效应相似的小型水母类(霍元子, 2008; 代鲁平, 2016)。
在季节的划分上, 为了体现和考虑冬季环境对于当年生态系统状况的重要作用, 将前一年12月至当年2月为冬季, 其他的季节划定为3~5月为春季, 6~8月为夏季, 9~11月为秋季。
使用SPSS Statistics 27进行数据分析。非参数相关分析和肯德尔相关系数用来对比浮游动物功能群指标与环境因子之间的关系。图形由R package“ggplot2”和origin 2024创建。
根据现有历史数据, 对胶州湾生态系统健康评价基于桡足类干重生物量、总丰度、总干重生物量、总湿重生物量以及多个关键比值, 如胶质类湿重/干重生物量之比与总湿重/干重生物量之比, 总湿重生物量与总干重生物量之比, 胶质类干重生物量与总干重生物量之比。其中, 传统饵料类浮游生物包括大型桡足类、小型桡足类, 胶质类浮游生物包括小型水母类、毛颚类、被囊类。
非参数相关分析结果显示浮游动物功能群指标与环境压力变化之间具有显著相关性(附表1), 对胶州湾环境数据(如温度、营养盐、溶解氧、chl a等)代表的环境压力(如变暖等)敏感。其中, 胶质类干重生物量在浮游生物群落中的占比与海水表层和底层温度呈现显著相关性(P<0.01), 总丰度、总生物量、总丰度与总干重之比、桡足类干重生物量与环境因子的相关性一致, 都与叶绿素和营养盐(磷酸盐和亚硝酸盐)显著相关(P<0.01), 总干重与湿重生物量之比也与营养盐显著相关(P<0.01)。
胶州湾主要浮游动物类群有桡足类、被囊类、毛颚类、水母类、多毛类、枝角类, 以及各类浮游生物的幼虫等, 夜光藻丰度年际变化剧烈暂不计入。其中桡足类、被囊类、毛颚类、水母类、甲壳类合计在3个站位浮游动物中的丰度占比均超过91% (A3: 91.6%, C3: 92.6%, D7: 91.2%), 体积生物量超过90% (A3: 90.0%, C3: 91.3%, D7: 98.1%)。桡足类是胶州湾浮游动物群落中生物量占比最多的类群, 平均干重生物量占比为74.5%±10.1%, 其次是毛颚类、水母类、被囊类和虾类(图2)。从湾北到湾口桡足类和被囊类生物量占比逐渐降低, 水母类逐渐上升(图2a~2d)。从桡足类干重生物量比例月变化看, 湾北桡足类生物量在春季较高, 湾中和湾口外桡足类生物量在秋季较高(图2e)。
根据2003~2013年胶州湾桡足类干重生物量的长期变化研究结果(图3), 春夏季, 浮游动物生物量呈现波动趋势, 2003、2005、2007、2010、2011年桡足类生物量在6月达到峰值, 其中2005年6月桡足类生物量达到9 525.67 mg/m3, 主要受A3站位采样影响, 2013年4月桡足类生物量达到3 715.20 mg/m3, 主要受D7站位采样影响。而2004、2008、2009年桡足类生物量在8月达到峰值。自2011年之后, 桡足类生物量高峰期提前, 从6~8月提前到3~5月。
秋冬季桡足类干重生物量相较于春夏季总体较低, 其中冬季桡足类生物量整体呈下降趋势, 生物量最高值多发生在2月, 2004年2月达到409.67 mg/m3。秋季生物量在2003~2011年之间呈下降趋势, 而在2012年10月出现高峰, 为571.89 mg/m3
2003~2013年, 胶州湾胶质类生物干重生物量占比总体呈上升趋势, 尤其是春季和秋季(图4a), 2013年平均胶质类干重生物量占比达到2003年的180.02%。在春季, 2007、2009和2012年占比较高, 分别是42.34%、51.13%和42.24%。在夏季, 2004、2010和2012年占比较高, 分别是32.02%、41.14%和38.30%。在秋季, 2009年和2012年占比较高, 分别是33.27%和41.14%。在冬季, 2007年占比较高, 达到35.17% (图4b)。
胶州湾桡足类干重生物量中位数从高到低依次为夏季(379.79 mg/m3)>春季(352.72 mg/m3)>冬季(80.69 mg/m3)>秋季(39.89 mg/m3) (图5a), 符合温带水域桡足类季节性消长规律。2013年春季异常值和2005年夏季异常值分别发生于A3站位和D7站位, 或与繁殖期暴发性增长和斑块分布相关, 在进行健康评估标准划分时剔除异常值进行单独分析。夏季桡足类干重生物量的关键阈值最高, Q25=196.16 mg/m3、Q75=844.71 mg/m3 (表2), 同时也是数据分布波动最极端的季节, 生物量数值分布在14.60~3 553.22 mg/m3之间, 离散程度大。春季桡足类干重生物量阈值次之(表2), Q25=212.58 mg/m3、Q75=530.25 mg/m3, 数据分布在59.03~1 150.43 mg/m3之间, 整体处于中等偏高水平, 离散程度适中, 多数数据集中在Q25以上区间。冬季桡足类干重生物量阈值介于秋季和春季之间(表2), Q25=28.58 mg/m3、Q75=105.85 mg/m3, 数据分布范围在2.30~409.67 mg/m3之间, 整体处于中等水平, 离散程度适中, 无极端偏高值, 极端偏低值仅在少数年份出现, 分布稳定性较强。秋季桡足类干重生物量阈值最低(表2), Q25=25.46 mg/m3、Q75=77.08 mg/m3, 是4个季节中整体水平最低的季节, 数据分布范围在0.85~571.89 mg/m3之间, 多数数据集中在Q25以下区间。
胶质类干重生物量占比的中位数从高到低依次为冬季(23.09%)>春季(21.63%)>夏季(21.09%)>秋季(20.46%) (图5b)。春季胶质类干重占比关键阈值最高(表2), Q25=13.80%、Q75=39.44%, 数据分布范围在0.02%~70.37%之间, 整体波动范围适中, 多数数据集中在Q25~Q75区间内, 仅少数年份出现极端偏高值, 无明显集中或离散异常。夏季胶质类干重占比阈值略低于春季(表2), Q25=12.79%、Q75=36.72%, 数据分布范围较广, 在5.92%~65.71%之间。冬季胶质类干重占比阈值介于秋季和春季之间(表2), Q25=16.87%、Q75=30.87%, 数据分布范围在8.15%~54.33%。秋季胶质类干重占比阈值Q25=13.46%、Q75=27.19% (表2), 数据分布范围在0~69.91%之间。综合来看, 胶质类干重占比在4个季节中整体离散程度均小于桡足类干重生物量, 分布稳定性普遍更优, 各季节的数值波动均未出现极端异常, 整体呈现出温和波动的分布特征。
基于前文中根据历史数据的范围划定“桡足类干重生物量”与“胶质类干重生物量占比”的25%和75%百分位数, 我们将浮游动物状态划分为不同的类型(表3), 在不同季节具有不同的实际数值。具体的健康状态取决于这些关键功能群的相对丰度, 它们对生态系统的生产力、稳定性和生物多样性具有重要影响。
此外, 在样品处理不便的情况下, 可以通过测定整个样品的干重和湿重之比, 快速地推断出胶质类生物生物量所占比例的大致情况(图6)。在胶质类生物占比较高时, 使用湿重生物量较为准确。
使用两个关键指标——桡足类干重生物量和胶质类干重生物量占比创建二维平面并对4个季节的生态系统健康程度的7种类型进行划分(图7)。
春季生态系统核心特征表现为桡足类干重生物量整体处于中等偏高水平, 是春季健康状况的核心, 胶质类干重占比波动范围适中, 呈波动上升趋势, 从2003年的6.55%逐步升至2012年的42.24%, 却未出现大规模胶质化恶化, 优质类型中物产丰富型仅在12年出现, 健康持续型零星分布于多个年份, 劣质类型中高风险型仅在2006年出现1次, 物质匮乏型则零星分布于2004、2008、2013年各1次, 且每年数据无极端两极分化现象, 生态系统健康状况的年度一致性较强, 整体稳定性在4个季节中表现较优。
夏季生态系统最显著的特征是桡足类干重生物量波动较大, 显示出夏季健康状况波动, 胶质类干重占比波动范围适中, 虽有部分年份胶质类占比超过Q75, 但高风险型仅在2006、2010年各出现1次, 未出现大规模恶化。夏季物产丰富型较为少见, 优质类型以健康持续型和良性发育型为主, 且两种类型占比无明显上升趋势, 始终处于波动状态, 同时每年不同月份的类型差异较大, 如2004、2006、2012年都出现多种不同健康类型, 导致夏季生态系统健康状况的年度一致性较差, 是4个季节中稳定性最弱的季节。
秋季生态系统的核心特征为桡足类干重生物量整体较低, 即使是健康持续型对应的桡足类生物量绝对值, 也远低于其他3个季节, 生态系统在夏季消耗了大量生产力。胶质类干重占比波动范围较窄, 整体占比偏低, 多数年份低于27.19%, 但后期2012~2013年有明显上升趋势, 胶质化型出现频率增加, 反映出秋季生态系统存在轻微胶质化恶化的潜在风险, 劣质类型中物质匮乏型分布于2007、2011、2013年, 高风险型仅在12年出现1次, 虽未大规模暴发, 但始终存在, 且每年不同月份的类型差异较大, 劣质类型出现时多伴随桡足类生物量的大幅下降, 两者关联性强, 导致秋季生态系统稳定性较弱。
冬季生态系统整体呈现中等健康水平, 其核心特征是桡足类干重生物量中等且波动幅度适中, 无极端偏低或偏高现象, 这也是冬季健康状况相对稳定的核心支撑, 胶质类干重占比波动范围较窄, 后期2012~2013年呈上升趋势, 胶质化型出现频率增加。
综合4个季节的生态系统健康状况来看, 春季因桡足类生物量中等偏高、优质类型出现频率最高、劣质类型最少, 整体表现最优; 夏季桡足类生物量整体偏高, 健康状况波动性较大; 秋冬季桡足类生物量处于较低水平, 且有胶质化风险。从长期变化共性来看, 4个季节均呈现波动变化趋势。
此外, 胶州湾历史调查数据中包含较多零值, 需要避免数据极端分布对于健康评估结果的干扰。
本研究主要关注两类浮游动物指标, 即代表生产力水平的生物量指标以及代表功能群结构稳定性的比例指标。生产力指标主要包括桡足类干重、总丰度、总干重, 比例指标包括胶质类干重生物量占比、总丰度与总干重之比、总干重与总湿重之比。与之类似的是, “浮游生物指数”(PI)也被用于表征生物对于环境变化的响应。主要是针对某两种具体的浮游生物物种之间丰度的相对变化, 例如, 用于检验甲藻和硅藻的相对丰度在不同年份是否有差异, 并将此差异归因于人类活动或气候变化(McQuatters-Gollop et al, 2019; Graves et al, 2023)。然而, 此种方法最初是为了跟踪浮游植物群落的变化而开发的, 虽然后来也纳入了浮游动物群落的变化, 但仍然应用较少, 主要针对两个功能相似的生物类群, 例如大型桡足类和小型桡足类, 大型桡足类和甲壳类、阶段性浮游生物和鱼卵。
在本研究指标的选择上, 传统饵料生物(如桡足类、磷虾等甲壳类)与胶质类生物(如水母、毛颚类、被囊类)的比值是衡量海洋生态系统健康的关键指标之一。甲壳类等饵料生物富含脂类和蛋白质, 是鱼类、鲸类等高级消费者的主要能量来源, 其高比例通常标志着食物链的高效运转(Pörtner et al, 2010; Wang et al, 2014) 对生态系统产生“正向”效应。而胶质类浮游动物等非饵料生物由于能量传递效率低且与鱼类竞争饵料资源, 对生态系统产生“负向”效应, 其数量增多通常被视为生态系统健康状况恶化的标志(Dong et al, 2010; Lee et al, 2023), 例如长时间序列分析显示暖水性水母的增多与气候变暖密切相关(Purcell, 2005)。因此, 维持饵料生物与胶质类生物的合理比值, 不仅能保障能量向高营养级的有效输送, 还能增强生态系统应对环境扰动的弹性。这一比值的变化常被用作早期预警信号: 当胶质类生物占比持续上升时, 不仅预示着生态系统结构简化、功能退化, 还加剧了饵料类浮游动物与鱼类之间的资源竞争, 进一步威胁渔业资源的可持续利用。当浮游动物的生物量、功能群结构或关键种比例超过或低于某一临界值时, 将直接引发生态系统的级联反应(如鱼类资源崩溃、藻华暴发等)。
此外, 生物量(单位面积或体积内生物的总质量)通常比丰度(个体数量)更具生态学意义。生物量直接反映了生态系统的能量储存与传递效率: 高生物量的物种的存在能支撑更复杂的食物网结构, 并维持捕食者-饵料关系的稳定性。桡足类为代表的饵料类浮游动物是生态系统中能量传递和物质循环的基石, 是大多数鱼类的能量来源, 其数量充足、种群稳定是生态系统健康的重要保障, 对生态系统具有“正向”效应(霍元子, 2008; 陶振铖, 2008; Wang et al, 2014; Zhou et al, 2016)。桡足类浮游生物的数量对环境压力的变动十分敏感, 高效地指示着生态系统的变化, 多元回归分析结果显示, 在热带大西洋, 浮游动物生物量的下降与 NAO 指数和磷酸盐浓度呈正相关(df=15; F=2.63; P<0.05) (Piontkovski et al, 2009)。本研究重点关注胶州湾功能群中的大型桡足类、小型桡足类的生物量。
经检验, 胶州湾浮游动物功能群指标对环境压力敏感, 与温度、叶绿素、营养盐等环境因子之间有显著相关性。桡足类生物在生态系统占比大, 具有代表性, 且对生态系统压力敏感。在热带大西洋, 桡足类在中型浮游动物群中占主导地位, 占总丰度的80%~98%, 占总生物量的45%~86%, 而其年平均生物量从1950年代到2000年下降了近10倍, 与当地生态系统的复杂变化密切相关(Piontkovski et al, 2009)。在几内亚湾, 1969~1992年间的浮游动物生物量呈现下降趋势, 从接近500 mL/m3 (体积生物量)下降到不足300 mL/m3, 多元回归分析显示主要是表层海水变暖和沙丁鱼自上而下的捕食控制导致的(Wiafe et al, 2008)。海洋异常升温会导致浮游动物群落发生显著的改变(Evans et al, 2020)。2014年发生的海洋热浪导致白令海海水温度比长期平均值高出2 °C, Duffy-Anderson等(2017)发现此时大型甲壳类浮游动物的丰度明显降低。在2015~2016年海水异常升温和海洋热浪发生期间, Evans等(2020)发现澳大利亚塔斯曼海浮游动物的总丰度显著降低, 主要由优势种如桡足类、被囊类和枝角类的丰度下降引起。在胶质类生物生物量方面, 切萨皮克湾、美国东海岸、亚得里亚海北部(2.3×104 gWW/100 m3)、黑海[(4.9~5.2)×102 gWW/100 m3]、帕劳水母湖(5×104 gWW/100 m3)等水域是高水母生物量区域(Lilley et al, 2011), 对应着受到高强度的人类活动和气候变化的共同作用的复杂生态系统。在中国近海, 2003~2013年间胶州湾海域桡足类丰度显著下降, 而小型水母类的丰度则增加了5倍以上(孙松等, 2011), 水母暴发已成为年度性事件(Dong et al, 2010)。
仅两个指标可能无法概括生态系统全貌(如忽略了物种多样性或其他营养级生物)。后续研究可结合其他数据和统计, 添加更多指标, 构建基于科学原理的多维评价体系。不仅是浮游动物功能群指标, 关键种也在生态系统健康评估中发挥着重要指示作用, 在后续研究中可进行补充。例如, 在中国近海, 饵料类浮游动物功能群的代表物种为大型桡足类的中华哲水蚤(Calanus sinicus), 小型桡足类的小拟哲水蚤(Paracalanus parvus), 大型甲壳类的太平洋磷虾(Euphausia pacifica), 作为黄东海浮游动物群落中的关键种, 其种群变动和生物量对整个生态系统结构与功能具有深远影响, 被认为是中国近海生态系统变化的重要指示因子(霍元子, 2008; 陶振铖, 2008; Wang et al, 2014; Zhou et al, 2016)。
在通过生物学指标评估生态系统健康状况的方法中, 大约一半的方法使用未受人类干扰的海域作为参考基准, 并辅以其他方法, 如历史数据、建模和专家判断, 此外还有大约40%的方法使用更主观的方法来建立参考条件(Brucet et al, 2013)。在此基础上, 以百分位数划定评价等级具有坚实的科学性(Yu et al, 2022), 主要体现在其基于数据的客观分布而非主观判断, 从而减少评估过程中的偏差并增强可重复性。在统计学中, 百分位数数据排序后划分为百分比区间, 这有助于根据实际观测值定义阈值, 反映历史基准或参考状态, 而不是依赖预设的固定标准, 或受限于人为干预, 尤其适用于处理具有自然变异性的复杂系统。在生态系统健康评估中, 这种方法能捕捉季节性或年际变化, 并适应不同区域的环境差异。此外, 百分位数划定评价等级还可以一定程度上降低对于食物链上下游数据的要求, 降低对于渔业资源数据、不同鱼类摄食量数据以及浮游植物生物量数据的依赖。
本研究将生态系统状况分为两大类, 7个细分类型。
(1) 物产丰富型: 当桡足类生物量突破75%分位数阈值, 同时胶质类占比也超过75%时, 系统呈现“物产丰富型”特征, 在桡足类和胶质类两类生物的丰度上都非常丰富, 可能代表了一个高效的食物链和良好的生物多样性。这类水域虽具备高基础生产力, 但胶质类具有异常增殖的风险——典型如黄海夏季水母暴发区, 其小型桡足类的生物量超过1000 mg/m2, 为沙海蜇的旺发提供了饵料条件(时永强, 2015), 需要进行监控和管理。
(2) 健康持续型: 桡足类的生物量超过75%分位数阈值, 而胶质类的干重生物量比例介于25%~75%之间。当系统处于“健康持续型”状态时, 则标志着理想生态平衡。 例如2000~2001年对黄海的浮游动物大面调查显示, 春季浮游动物群落中大型甲壳类、大型桡足类和小型桡足类对生物量的贡献率分别为19%、44%和26%, 桡足类总和占比为89% (霍元子, 2008)。
(3) 良性发育型: 在这种生态系统中, 桡足类生物量处于中等范围(25%~75%), 而胶质类的比例低于75%。这种组合表示生态系统中桡足类的数量不是特别丰富, 但在一定程度上仍能提供较为稳定的能量流动, 胶质类物种也不占主导地位。生态系统的健康处于正常发展阶段, 但可能存在一定的生物多样性丧失或资源分布不均的问题。这个系统可能尚未完全发展到最佳状态, 但仍有较好的发展和恢复潜力。系统的资源利用处于中等水平。
(1) 胶质发展型: 此类型反映生态系统处于胶质化早期阶段。桡足类生物量显著低于历史基线(<25%), 可能因过度捕捞、富营养化或水温升高等压力导致其繁殖受抑制; 胶质类生物量虽未突破阈值(25%~75%), 但已显现增长趋势。此时生态系统的能量流动开始从传统甲壳类主导向胶质类倾斜, 底层食物链存在问题, 鱼类资源可能因饵料减少而衰退, 导致生态系统的稳定性和生产力较弱, 此类生态系统可能面临衰退或重建的风险。
(2) 胶质化型: 此类型标志胶质类生物占据生态主导地位。桡足类生物量处于中等水平, 但胶质类占比已超过75%分位数, 可能意味着胶质类物种如海鳟、水母等在这个生态系统中占据了主导地位, 形成了一个较强的生产性基础。生态系统呈现“胶质化”特征: 高密度胶质类(如水母)与鱼类竞争饵料, 并捕食鱼卵仔鱼, 威胁渔业资源; 同时, 胶质类驱动的“短食物链”可能降低生态系统稳定性。例如, 在黄海, 水母类功能群丰度在2007年出现暴发式增加, 其平均丰度是2001年(丰度次高年)平均丰度的4.8倍。以及2007年南黄海大面积暴发的梭形纽鳃樽(Salpa fusiformis), 是1959年海樽类平均丰度的88.5倍(时永强等, 2016)。
(3) 高风险型: 此类型代表生态系统濒临崩溃边缘。桡足类生物量极低(<25%分位数), 胶质类占比远超历史阈值(>75%)。这表明生态系统中桡足类的数量严重不足, 而胶质类物种占据主导地位。
在高风险的生态系统类型, 桡足类的低生物量可能意味着浮游动物群体的缺失, 从而导致生态系统的能量流动和食物链的稳定性受到严重影响。胶质类的过度繁荣可能意味着营养物质积累过多, 导致营养不平衡, 进而可能引发藻类暴发或其他生态问题, 危及生态系统的健康和稳定性。
(4) 物质匮乏型(<25%, <25%): 此类生态系统中, 桡足类和胶质类的生物量都较低(均<25%)。这表明生态系统中的两个关键群体的数量都极为稀少, 可能缺乏足够的初级生产力和生物多样性。
低生物量和低比例表明资源匮乏, 能量流动和物质循环可能受到严重阻碍。生物群落的低密度和低多样性意味着系统的稳定性差, 面临较大的生态风险, 可能需要采取积极的保护和修复措施。
通过对历史环境数据的分析以及通过胶质类干重占比、桡足类干重生物量两个指标得出的健康评估结果, 与环境因子波动存在一定响应关系。不同健康类型出现时, 对应关联的环境因子或会呈现波动。本案例分析已规避胶州湾历史数据中零值的极端干扰, 力求关联逻辑更贴合生态实际, 但结论仍需进一步验证。
优质生态类型出现时, 关联环境因子多呈现适宜波动, 无明显异常, 大致与两个核心生物指标的显著关联因子的波动相协同。健康持续型零星分布于多个年份和季节, 其出现时桡足类生物量处于对应季节适宜水平, 与之极显著相关的叶绿素、磷酸盐、亚硝酸盐均呈温和波动, 既利于浮游植物生长, 也不易引发营养盐过剩。胶质类占比波动适中, 与之极显著相关的表层、底层水温也处于对应季节正常范围, 推测环境因子的适宜波动可为生态系统良性发育提供一定支撑。劣质生态类型出现时, 多伴随对应关联环境因子的波动。例如, 2006年夏季磷酸盐偏低、2010年秋季亚硝酸盐轻微偏高, 2012年秋季叶绿素偏低、水温略偏低, 营养盐或水温异常导致桡足类生物量不足、胶质类占比失衡。良性发展生态系统对应叶绿素、营养盐、表底层水温的适宜波动, 桡足类生物量偏高或适中, 胶质类占比稳定; 风险发展生态系统多伴随上述环境因子的异常波动, 或营养盐失衡, 或水温偏差, 最终导致生物指标偏差。
未来对于健康评估结果的解读还应结合长时间尺度的生态系统变化, 而不仅仅是环境因子的短期波动。同时, 需要考虑生物之间的相互作用关系, 例如级联效应、上行和下行控制等, 共同来解读环境因子变化到浮游动物指标变化再到生态系统健康程度的逻辑链条。支撑相关结论仍需更多数据进一步验证完善。
浮游动物功能群指标可作为生态系统健康变化的有效指标。其中, “桡足类干重生物量”和“胶质类干重生物量在浮游生物群落中的占比”是代表生产力水平和功能群结构稳定性的关键指标, 对于温度、营养盐、叶绿素等环境因子变化响应敏感。基于胶州湾2003~2013年历史调查数据, 通过构建基于浮游动物功能群指标的二维坐标平面和划定指标百分位数, 可将胶州湾划分为两大类, 对应良性发展的生态系统和风险发展的生态系统, 具体细分为7类健康状态类型, 分别是物产丰富型、健康持续型、良性发育型、胶质发展型、胶质化型、高风险型、物质匮乏型。
