The failure mechanisms of SiC, B₄C ceramic and the laminated SiC/BN composite armor under ballistic impacts of 5.8 mm steel bullet at 920 m/s were investigated by the finite element analysis and ballistic experiments. The results show that the fracture toughness of laminated SiC/BN ceramic with weak interfaces is 7.6 MPa·m^1/2. The shear fractures of substrate and interlayer appear on the ballistic impact surface, and the delamination and folding fractures occur at the back. The more transgranular fractures occur when the interlayers increase, compared to the intergranular fractures. The shallower impact craters are generated when the thickness of the SiC substrate layers decreases along the impact direction. SiC/BN laminated ceramic has a better ballistic performance when the mass fraction of BN interlayer is 6.9%, and SiC and B₄C block ceramics exhibit a better ballistic performance under multiple bullet impact condition.

通过有限元分析及弹击实验验证，研究了SiC、B₄C块体陶瓷及SiC/BN层状陶瓷复合装甲在5.8 mm钢芯弹920 m/s速率打击下的损伤破坏机制。结果表明：具有弱界面结构的层状SiC/BN陶瓷断裂韧性可达7.6 MPa·m^1/2，其在经受子弹打击时，靠近迎弹面以基体及夹层剪切断裂为主，靠近背弹面呈现分层及折状断裂等破坏机制，随着夹层质量分数增加，基体断裂沿晶断裂向穿晶断裂转变。层状陶瓷由迎弹面至背弹面基体层厚度呈梯度递减的结构有利于减小鉴证靶凹陷深度。当BN夹层质量分数为6.9%时，SiC/BN层状陶瓷防护性能较好，而SiC、B₄C块体陶瓷在抗多发弹打击时表现出更优防护性能。
