To promote equity and expand the spatial and social reach of multimodal rail systems, this paper examines the intersection of multimodal transit and social equity. It analyzes key research approaches, critical challenges, and influencing factors, and proposes future research directions and policy strategies. Findings suggest that two fundamental issues underpin the inequity of multimodal rail systems, namely spatial disparities in network coverage and insufficient attention to the diverse needs of users. Rail station and line densities tend to be lower in low-density urban neighborhoods and peri-urban or rural areas, making access more difficult. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, people with disabilities, low-income populations, and individuals with lower educational attainment, are particularly affected by economic constraints, digital exclusion, and time-space coordination challenges in their daily mobility. Future research on social equity in multimodal transit systems should adopt a holistic perspective that integrates built environment characteristics, transport infrastructure provision, temporal factors, individual attributes, economic policies, intermodal connectivity, and digital literacy. Advancing equity in this context requires innovation in methodological frameworks, model development, as well as the identification and quantification of influencing mechanisms. As a capital-intensive foundational infrastructure, urban rail transit plays a critical role in shaping inclusive and equitable transport systems. Addressing social equity in multimodal transit is vital for enhancing population mobility, increasing employment opportunities, and promoting balanced and sustainable regional development.

为促进多制式交通系统公平性，提升轨道网络覆盖面和惠及群体，从多制式轨道交通与社会公平内涵着手，分析其研究方法、关键问题和影响因素，探讨多制式出行未来研究趋势及优化策略。研究表明，多制式交通公平面临轨道网络空间活动覆盖不均和交通系统群体需求关注不足两大核心问题，城市低密度社区和城郊农村区域轨道站点与线路覆盖密度较低，老年人、残疾人、低收入、低教育水平等弱势群体易面临经济贫困、数字排斥、时空协同困难等出行问题。未来多制式社会公平研究应综合考虑建成环境、交通设施、时间因素、个体属性、经济政策、交通换乘和数字技术等影响因素，进一步推动多制式出行公平性方法创新、模型构建以及影响机制识别与指标量化研究。城市轨道交通作为基础性工程，研究其多制式交通与社会公平，对于构建公平包容的多制式交通系统、促进人口流动、提高就业机会、推动区域经济协调可持续发展具有重要意义。

为促进多制式交通系统公平性，提升轨道网络覆盖面和惠及群体，从多制式轨道交通与社会公平内涵着手，分析其研究方法、关键问题和影响因素，探讨多制式出行未来研究趋势及优化策略。研究表明，多制式交通公平面临轨道网络空间活动覆盖不均和交通系统群体需求关注不足两大核心问题，城市低密度社区和城郊农村区域轨道站点与线路覆盖密度较低，老年人、残疾人、低收入、低教育水平等弱势群体易面临经济贫困、数字排斥、时空协同困难等出行问题。未来多制式社会公平研究应综合考虑建成环境、交通设施、时间因素、个体属性、经济政策、交通换乘和数字技术等影响因素，进一步推动多制式出行公平性方法创新、模型构建以及影响机制识别与指标量化研究。城市轨道交通作为基础性工程，研究其多制式交通与社会公平，对于构建公平包容的多制式交通系统、促进人口流动、提高就业机会、推动区域经济协调可持续发展具有重要意义。

To promote equity and expand the spatial and social reach of multimodal rail systems, this paper examines the intersection of multimodal transit and social equity. It analyzes key research approaches, critical challenges, and influencing factors, and proposes future research directions and policy strategies. Findings suggest that two fundamental issues underpin the inequity of multimodal rail systems, namely spatial disparities in network coverage and insufficient attention to the diverse needs of users. Rail station and line densities tend to be lower in low-density urban neighborhoods and peri-urban or rural areas, making access more difficult. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, people with disabilities, low-income populations, and individuals with lower educational attainment, are particularly affected by economic constraints, digital exclusion, and time-space coordination challenges in their daily mobility. Future research on social equity in multimodal transit systems should adopt a holistic perspective that integrates built environment characteristics, transport infrastructure provision, temporal factors, individual attributes, economic policies, intermodal connectivity, and digital literacy. Advancing equity in this context requires innovation in methodological frameworks, model development, as well as the identification and quantification of influencing mechanisms. As a capital-intensive foundational infrastructure, urban rail transit plays a critical role in shaping inclusive and equitable transport systems. Addressing social equity in multimodal transit is vital for enhancing population mobility, increasing employment opportunities, and promoting balanced and sustainable regional development.
